Jeff Davis Pie

I found the picture of the pie on another site of recipes and the below words are from the submitter, believe it or not. Boy, our Marxist school system is doing a profound job........

"All I can figure is that this pie was named after Jefferson Davis...who was the President of the Confederate States of America during the Civil War. ... And, I only know that thanks to Google. ...I can't really find why or when the pie was named after him. Not that it matters, but I was curious! ...Anyway, on to the pie! It's one of my dad's favorites. A drive-up restaurant in Abilene used to make this pie and my mom & dad were huge fans as young 'ens!"
Jeff Davis Pie from Aunt Jule Ann, master cook in the family of George B. Warren, Dover Mo.(Lafayettee County)
* On the occasion of distinguished guests at the Warren home, Aunt Jule served a new kind of pie. When asked how it was made Aunt Jule Ann, (who admired Jefferson Davis) declared "That's Jeff Davis Pie." *(from family notes)

The ingredients are:

2 cups sugar,
1 tbsp all purpose flour
1 cup sweet cream
1 cup softened butter
6 eggs beaten
1 unbaked 9 inch pie shell

Cream butter sugar and flour until light and fluffy add beaten eggs, mix well, pour into pie shell, bake 15 min at 450 degrees, reduce heat to 350 bake 30 min additional until knife inserted in center comes out clean.
