I suck........

Comments on Heh!:)

I suck ...

After living in peaceful coexistence for 40 years in the woods of Beaufort, Pitt and Wake Co ...

My indigenous friends in VA, NC and SC still refer to me as "the damned Yankee" (the one who stayed).

Best Regards,
Hans

Hans,

I was born in Florida so I don't suck.

David -

Let's examine your statement as a logical proposition

The bumper sticker alleges "All Yankees Suck" is TRUE

The statement "All Non-Yankees Do-Not-Suck" is the logical Inverse.

It is important to remember that the inverse does NOT necessarily have the same truth value as the original conditional statement.

A truth table clearly shows the relationship between the conditional, the converse, and the inverse:

Conditional Converse Inverse
T T F F T T T
T F F T F T T
F T T F T F F
F F T T T T T

All we can reasonably conclude is that you may likely suck despite your southern heritage.

Hans,

Sir, as a Southern gentleman, I must respectively disagree.

The premise is all Yankees suck. This may be taken to mean that non-Yankees may suck or not. However, in this context, all Southern gentlemen do not suck. This means that the first row in the truth table is the only applicable one which is T in all cases.

As a gentlemen, I will give you some dispensation due to your longevity of residence in the South.

Please keep in mind that Southern politicians are not gentlemen and may or may not suck. In this case, the first two rows are applicable but we still do not know if a Southern politician sucks or not When in doubt, assume any politician should be in the same class as Bill Clinton. In which case the premise takes on additional connotations that a gentleman will not discuss.
