NC: Gun Buying

How quickly the world changes. I stopped by the Hickory gun-show on my way to work this morning and got there a little after 8:00AM. The line was already out the front door. By the time the show opened the doors at 9:00AM the line wrapped all the way around the building. I went in and did a walk around speaking with some vendors that I know and some other show goers. AR's and AK's are more than double in price compared to just two weeks ago when I was at the Raleigh gun show.

AR's going for $2500.00-$2600.00. Most gun prices up and ammo doubled as well. One vendor I spoke with yesterday cancelled his table space earlier in the week because his inventory was all sold out. I have a couple fireamrs on order and the supplier honored earlier prices. I did pick up a holster and a few magazines for my son's Mini 14. When I left the show was almost full to fire capacity and the line still wrapped around the building with those waiting to get in.

  1. I went to the local gun show here in town last night and again this morning. AR and AK prices are, like the post states, about double.

I bought another XD-40 SubCompact and paid about 8% more than I paid for one exactly a year ago. Handgun prices haven't gone up a lot. Handgun ammo hasn't gone up a lot. At least not here. There was some .223 available but it wasn't incredibly high priced. There is none in the shops around here. None.

The show was more crowded than I have ever seen it.

I was looking for small pistol primers because none are available in the shops here. I bought 2000 small pistol primers and 1000 each large pistol and small rifle primers for $4 a thousand less than I normally pay. Powder was the same as normal and plentiful. My local supplier has been out of most everything for a week.

GI 30 round mags were going for $30 apiece, Magpul were much more expensive. One dealer that I know from Cedar Rapids had some Magpul mags for $49.95 each with a handwritten note on his display recommending that you not purchase them at that price because he is sure they will come back down. I thought that was pretty neat. He's a good guy.

Just the sheer number of people and the fact that there seemed to be pretty good supplies of everything surprised me.

The guy I bought the XD from (I have dealt with him many times in the past) said that every gun he orders from his supplier is a few dollars more expensive than the last.

Me too. Don't find that often.

I would attribute that to inflation, but since the government says we don't have any, I guess I'm wrong..........:)

  3. Just came from there myself. Impressive gathering for real. Vehicles lined up a mile down both sides of the access road`s after the parking lot`s filled up. Glad to let one young gentleman set a couple thousand round case of 7.62 x 39 FMJ on the back of my truck and set him out at his vehicle . " Just trying to help out ya know ".;)

    1. The 5.56 was running about a buck a rd. , the 7.62x39 avg. slightly less about .75 a rd. little difference on mnfg. The boy I saw buy the crates put it on his plastic. Probably not worried about the F.R.notes . Saw 2 S K S rifle`s for 400 buck`s ,but A-R`s and A-K type weapon`s were out of sight.

  4. I was really amazed a few weeks ago when we, my wife and I, went to the biggest gun store/range in Minnesota to sight-in her firearms. The freaking store was packed and a line was developing outdoors.

There were tens of AR15s on the wall, but the dude told me that everything had been sold. I was shocked.

We're lucky, kind of; due to multiple miscommunications with vendors of all kinds, we managed to purchase double or triple the planned amounts of ammo and firearms after the election. At the time my wife was a bit pissed, but now she is very happy. We even bought by accident a few thousand rounds of Federal .223 Rem Ammo - 55 Grain FMJ-BT.

The same applied to rigs, mags, powder, primers and brass.

So, now we posses enough ammo and mags for every firearm for years (sans some urgent need), in addition to all reloading stuff, and we own quite a few firearms. I'm a happy camper.

One more thing: as much as I like capitalism, I hate price gouging. People are desperate, and we need every non-commie
American to own a good rifle, a handgun and plenty of ammo. Selling $1000 ARs at $2500, mags $60 and rounds at $1.50 sucks.

I'll donate my stuff to good people if the need ever arises.

  5. Selling $1000 ARs at $2500

I imagine some are selling extras in hopes the prices will come down later if the ban doesn't go through.

  6. Magazines are for metro-sexuals.

All my rifles used enblocs or stripper clips. Too bad they all got stolen.

At least I still have a .22 revolver.

    1. The boating accident was a few years back. More recently I have been the victim of marauding bands of thieving communist bloc dwarves.

It's all been kinda un-nerving, to say the least.

I've decide to quit the guns thing and count on my local cops to protect my property and keep me safe.

Now, there's a plan. I guess one we should all adopt.......

  9. I know, Blue. I'm the un-luckiest MFer on the planet. My shit gets jacked 20 minutes after buying it.

Guess I better count on battlefield pickups...
