Deputies say burglar (Son) dumped rare coins into coin counting machine

Multnomah County Sheriff's Deputies are searching for a man they said stole tools, two safes and valuable coins from a shed at a Corbett home belonging to his own father.

Deputies said Dan Johnson, Jr., along with two other suspects, broke into the outbuildings on Christmas.

The safes had approximately 50 to 60 lbs. of silver and jewelry inside, detectives said.

They also contained a coin collection worth several thousand dollars.

Investigators told FOX 12 that the suspects dumped the collection into a coin counting machine in Gresham and received about $450 in return.

"The obvious answer that the crooks were idiots, just simply an idiot," said Dan Johnson, Sr. "To not know the value of what they had taken, just to get pocket change for it. Just really a stupid person. Makes me feel good he was a stupid person and didn't realize what he had."

Panama’s Gun Laws

The Pinkerton Intelligence Agency has given Panama has the highest rating for tourist safety. After having visited four countries in the area (Belize, Colombia, Costa Rica, and Panama), I can tell you from personal experience that Panama is by far the safest country in the region.

Private firearms ownership is the reason that Panamanians enjoy this level of safety and security.

Panama does not have ridiculous laws against carrying a weapon concealed. In fact, if you can legally purchase a firearm in Panama, you are also legally allowed to carry it concealed.

Panama also does not have crazy laws to prevent honest citizens from receiving permits to buy firearms. You are required to give a blood sample with a finger prick. This is used for DNA fingerprinting. You will also be asked to pee in a cup to show that you are drug-free. Applicants are then checked by the police department. This isn’t quick; nothing in Panama is quick.

For American pensionados (retirees) and other immigrants to Panama, the process is the same. Yes, you can retire to a tropical paradise and sip rum drinks on the beach, all the while knowing that your family and your property is protected.

Short barreled rifles and shotguns are legal in Panama. Silencer are not legal. Fully-automatic weapons are also not legal.

For more information on firearm ownership in Panama, read Panama Gun Laws.

Just Hell, No!

When I was about 15 or 16, I read Solzhenitsyn’s The Gulag Archipelago. The book is a history of the Soviet concentration camp system between 1918 and 1956, based on the testimony of actual prison inmates, of which Solzhenitsyn was one—and it had a profound effect on me, both politically and as a future writer.

But most of all, it taught me something crucial: What is legal is not necessarily the same as what is just.

Because you see, the Gulag system of forced-labor and concentration camps was completely legal: Proper laws had been properly passed, which allowed innocent people to be shipped off to their doom in a properly legal process. Even before the Nazis came up with the Wannsee Protocol, Lenin and his Soviets had perfected the idea of using the law to rape justice and the rights of human beings.

We today look at such abuses of the law as perversions typical of authoritarian and totalitarian regimes—

—but what about in a democracy? What about in our democracy? What about in America?

Recently, the United States’ Congress duly and democratically passed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which President Obama duly and democratically signed into law.

The NDAA makes it legal for the executive branch to unilaterally declare anyone, including an American citizen, a terrorist suspect. And on merely the strength of this suspicion—not an act, not even a plan, but merely on a suspicion—an accused person can be “detained” indefinitely.

So imagine this: Imagine you are walking down the street one Saturday morning, having gone to your neighborhood Kwik Stop to buy the paper and a Slim Jim.

March on the White House: February 20, 2012

RON PAUL IS THE CHOICE OF THE TROOPS!

We, the founders of Veterans for Ron Paul 2012, Nathan Cox and Adam Kokesh, propose a Veterans and Active Duty March for Ron Paul on President's Day, Monday, February 20th, giving us enough time to plan and promote, and in plenty of time for an impact on Super Tuesday, March 6th. We will apply for a proper permit from the Parks Department and coordinate with appropriate authorities to gather in the vicinity (at the base if possible) of the Washington Monument, have a brief chance for veterans to speak, nothing special, possibly even as little as a soapbox and a bullhorn, but we'll see. Then, at 1pm, line up in formation on 15th St NW facing North towards Constitution Ave NW, march in formation to the White House, turn our backs to the White House, then "present arms" (hold a hand salute) to a folded flag for as many seconds as service members have died since Obama took office, then march silently back to the Washington monument and fall out. Family members are invited to march behind the formation, and members of KIA families are invited to place their hands on the folded flag during the salute.

This will be followed by a designated time and place for media availability, and/or a reception to take place at another location. This has the benefit of being effective even if we only have a platoon-sized element of participants, but imagine if we could have an impressive number of vets and even active duty soldiers participate in this gesture! How many would join us in demanding that Ron Paul be recognized as the choice of the troops?

Marchers are encouraged to wear something symbolic of their support for Ron Paul, and their service, like a piece of uniform like a hat or a patch and carry proof of service. Active duty troops are invited to participate in full recognition of the regulations regarding political speech. It is an absurd proposition to say that members of the military supporting candidates in uniform would be construed to represent official positions of the government and rules regarding free speech for members of the military have only been used to silence dissent and keep the true will of the troops from being relevant in the American political discourse. Well, NOT ANY MORE!

We intend to rally at noon at the Washington Monument, and step of at one, but we will coordinate with appropriate authorities and exact details are subject to change.

Proof of service will be required to march in the formation. We will accept DD-214 with matching ID, military ID, VA ID, or clear photograph in a clearly on-duty situation.

If anyone would like to create a graphic we can use for this event, please do so and email us at VFRP2012@gmail.com.. HELP SPREAD THE WORD!

THE FORMATION AND ORGANIZATION OF RESISTANCE MOVEMENTS

Via Western Rifle Shooters Association

Resistance movements generally begin with the desire of individuals, or small groups of individuals, to remove intolerable conditions imposed by an unpopular regime. Opposition towards the regime and hatred of existing conditions that conflict with the individual’s or the group’s values, interests, and way of life, spread from the individual (or group of individuals comprising the group), to family, close friends, and neighbors. This can result in an entire community cohering in an obsessive hatred for an established regime. Generally, this hatred has historically manifested itself as sporadic, spontaneous nonviolent and violent acts of resistance towards the regime, or available representatives of the regime. As the discontent grows, natural leaders (historically, former military personnel, clergymen, local political leaders, and community organizers- remember most resistance insurgencies in the last century had a basis in communist/socialist ideals…) emerge to channelize the discontent into an organized resistance movement that promotes its own growth. The population must be convinced by this leadership that it has nothing to lose, or at least, more to gain, by resistance, than by maintaining the status quo.

The ultimate key to progressing from increasing discontent to active insurrection is the belief by the populace that they have nothing to lose by revolting, combined with the belief that they have a genuine chance to succeed.

My old stompin' grounds, but I am not there now.**My third and fourth daughters, Christine Pender and Bonnie Bach.

Mr Townsend,

I'm trying to "re-locate" a fallen Confederate Soldier's gravesite or marker who was buried in the Warrenton Cemetery, Virginia. I found the gravesite and marker while stationed at Vint Hill Farms Station, Virginia in 1968. I took a picture which clearly shows my ancestor's name "John Shellman" who was the son of J.W. Talley. John Shellman was killed as a result of a leg injury in the Second Battle Of Manasses, 1862.

I found a website (Free North Carolina) with a picture of Col. John Mosby's grave marker with **two young girls standing beside the grave marker and each holding a Confederate Flag. I too have a picture of the Mosby grave marker (less the two girls of course) also taken in 1968. John Shellman's grave stone was within ten or fifteen feet of the Mosby grave marker. I remember thinking John Shellman is in good company being beside another Confederate Hero. My son was visiting the Warrenton Cemetery last week and could not find the John Shellman grave marker. So, my question is: how would I go about finding out if the grave marker for John Shellman has been moved? If so, where? Is there a map or listing of those Fallen Confederates as to where they can be found in the Warrenton Cemetery?

Any records indicating my ancestor could be listed as either John Shellman OR John Shellman Talley as the last name (Talley) was in smaller letters and beneath John Shellman which followed the contour of the top of the grave stone in larger letters. If needed, I can scan my pictures and forward them to you.

Any information you can offer is appreciated.

The Real Domestic Terrorists

Those who support States rights, constitutional government, and the right of secession are now commonly called by the ruling elite right-wing extremists and potential domestic terrorists. We traditional Southerners are indeed familiar with this game. Had the term been around then, our ancestors - from Washington and Jefferson to Lee and Davis - would have been called domestic terrorists by the Brits and Yankees, respectively. As it was, they were simply called "traitors." We reject the use of both terms for ourselves and for our forebears. Instead, we can make a good case that the real threats to domestic peace and quiet are on the other side. And yet we continue to pay them tribute and allow them to rule over us.

Who They Are?

The real domestic terrorists were (and are) those who oppose ordered Christian liberty and the worldview which upholds it. Indeed, Abe Lincoln and his minions have sired a long line of domestic terrorists, including most recently George W. Bush and Barack Hussein Obama (and all who aid them in their misrule). We might throw the larger part of Congress into the mix as well.

Most of what the U.S. government does is beyond the bounds of its constitutional limitations. That makes it unlawful. That which is unlawful ultimately terrorizes society. Jefferson told us that the fundamental law of the land should be viewed as chains to bind a singularly dangerous beast (the general government). For a while the beast was successfully bound; however, he slipped his chains for good in 1865 and our republic of republics was lost. Today, we live under a strange combination of socialism and fascism that would surely please a Hitler, Stalin, Lenin, or Mao as much as it would disgust our Founders.

How we came to this point is fairly clear - there was a slow and steady revolution, and most Americans were asleep while it patiently worked its way through virtually every institution in the land. Some of our fellow subjects still don't realize what has transpired. But they soon will.

Things were bad under Bush II. But because he and the GOP masqueraded as "conservatives," most Americans thought all was well. But as a famous Alabamian once said, there's not a dime's worth of difference between the two major political parties. And he was right. Bush I or Clinton; Bush II or Obama - the rhetoric may differ but the results are still the same: bigger, more intrusive, and lawless central government and less liberty and prosperity for the rest of us. Now, what little we have left in terms of liberty and property is being taken from us openly without any meaningful resistance on our part.

An Organized Criminal Enterprise

That the U.S. government is an organized criminal enterprise cannot be doubted by anyone who has kept abreast of the on-going, broad-open-daylight effort to loot the country's wealth.

Prosecutors Gone Wild: How Many Wrongful Convictions Will the Public Stand for?

Even casual samplers of the media now come across colossal injustices and failures in the U.S. justice criminal system every two weeks or so. Yet these stories, everyone a heart-breaking recitation of how willful prosecution misconduct has ruined a life or a family, with no consequences at all to whoever has abused his great powers as a prosecutor, seem never to elicit any particular public response or gain any traction for review or reform. ...

Prosecutors have practically untrammeled discretion in deciding what to charge, how many counts to allege, and a very wide latitude in sentences sought. Grand juries are just a rubber stamp for prosecutors, and contrary to the spirit of the Fifth Amendment, provide absolutely no assurance against capricious prosecution. But complicity in or direct causation of the lengthy incarceration of falsely accused and convicted people, not to be confused with honest error and misplaced zeal, is a terribly serious offense and is so treated in every other serious jurisdiction except the U.S.

Dominant Social Theme: Ignore former media mogul Conrad Black. He's been convicted of corporate corruption and his articles are just sour grapes.

Free-Market Analysis: Conrad Black, the former Canadian publisher of numerous prestigious mainstream newspapers, was apparently unjustly imprisoned for corporate corruption and as a result he has discovered the injustice of the current Western industrial-penitentiary complex.

He's writing about the increasingly insane paradigm of Western "justice" and, ironically, is one of only a few of his mainstream stature (diminished as it may be) to do so. He didn't previously, but his current travails have apparently concentrated his mind.

In a series of extraordinary articles, some of them apparently written from jail, the fallen media magnate makes significant points about how the system has strayed from justice – and not just in his case. We've always maintained that the Western "justice" meme was the most stubborn and would be perhaps the last to come under attack in this Internet era. Black is certainly engaging the battle.

It turns out that after numerous appeals, Black stands accused, perhaps, of embezzling some US$250,000 in corporate funds from the company he built and headed. For this, he has apparently paid some US$32 million in fines and seen the utter destruction of his media empire – or so we have read.

Black, it would seem, has a right to be bitter. But no matter what one thinks of Black – and for much of his career he was a kind of card-carrying socialist and social-climber of the most unbearable type – he has shown considerable courage in fighting his case and writing increasingly passionate articles even as he has joined the fight to prove his innocence.

In this case, what stimulates Black's pen is a case that occurred in Texas where an individual named Michael Morton was found guilty of murdering his wife and spent 25 years in jail before being released when it turned out that prosecutors had apparently withheld exculpatory DNA evidence.

GOA Alert: Romney, Huntsman Stonewall Gun Owners

As New Hampshire voters get set to head to the polls, Mitt and Jon Huntsman continue to ignore requests from gun owners that he return the GOA candidate questionnaire.

Thank to your efforts, we’ve heard from most of the Republican candidates, including Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul. But Romney and Huntsman continue to turn a deaf ear to the Second Amendment community.

Romney’s stonewalling is no surprise. After all, he is on record supporting a semi-auto ban and waiting periods for gun purchases. Still, he has the audacity to travel around the country claiming to be a supporter of the Second Amendment.

If he truly has “changed his spots,” then why not commit in writing to support specific Second Amendment issues?

For instance, would he veto a semi-auto ban, something he signed into law as Governor of Massachusetts? Will he reverse the Obama administration’s support of the massive UN small arms treaty? And what about executive orders, gun owner registration, and a host of other issues important to gun owners?

Jon Huntsman views on gun rights are largely unknown, but as the former Utah governor creeps up in the polls in New Hampshire, gun owners are becoming increasingly interested in his positions.

Huntsman said over the summer that he would “absolutely veto” a semi-auto ban, but he has not elaborated further.

There are some 100 million gun owners in America. It is outrageous for ANY candidate for elected office to ignore this vast segment of the population.

ACTION: Please contact the Romney and Huntsman campaigns and urge them to complete the GOA candidate questionnaire.

Has this threat to punish Rhode Island disappeared down the Memory Hole?

Pro Libertate

Comment on Charles Carroll of Carrollton

I read this about Rhode Island:

Rhode Island had not as yet joined the new Union and it was now proposed to make her suffer for her delay. On April 28, 1790, a committee was formed to consider what was to be done about Rhode Island. This was considered by Maclay and his friends as “only to furnish a pretext to raise more troops…” According to Robert Morris, this is the gist of the bill: “to prevent bringing goods, wares and merchandise from the State of Rhode Island… into the United States, and to authorize a demand for money from the said State.” The bill passed on May 18, and Rhode Island Voluntarily joined the Voluntary Union.

I bring this up because it seemed to be a threat to starve them into “submission” since RI could not trade with another state and no state could trade with her. (However, she was still responsible for paying her Fair Share of Taxes.)

Could not Lincoln have done the same thing? I mean he did do the same thing, blockading Southern ports before the war even started, and ending trade with the Voluntary Union. So why the war? By the end of this four-year slaughter, only the dead were not starving.

BTW, has this threat to punish Rhode Island disappeared down the Memory Hole? I can hardly find any reference to it.

Loving Our Enemies

Via Cousin John
Crazy is beating your head against a wall to cure a headache. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. Stupidity is continuously buying into the lies of a consistently duplicitous Federal government.

“We’re under attack because we love freedom, is why we’re under attack. And our enemy hates freedom. They hate and we love. We differ from our enemy because we love. We not only love our freedoms and love our values, we love life itself. Our enemy hates innocent life.” — George W. Bush, addressing schoolchildren, Sept. 23, 2002

Any discussion of Ron Paul as a GOP Presidential candidate inevitably begets rants from the paranoids about how Paul’s non-interventionist foreign policy would make America vulnerable to attacks from Iran or Islamic extremists from one Muslim nation or another.

Typical of the responses are irrational, fact-devoid screeds like these, taken from our comments section last week:

  • “Ron Paul is truly a loose cannon , short sighted and ignorant of world relations . On one hand he is correct , we should worry about America . On the other , we MUST worry about the spread of nuclear weapons in the hands of a militant regime who has no compunctions about using them in order to advance their agenda . If this half senile old fool thinks for one instance that Iran would be justified in closing down the Straights to prevent sanctions he should not be seeking the Presidency . Those who defend him should stop and think what it would mean to listen to him an sit back ignoring this bunch of crazed Iranian leaders as they lead us to a war no one will survive . You Have Been Warned !”
  • “Screw Ron Paul and Screw Iran. A vote for Paul will just Make it easier for the A-hole to get back in and finish his job of destroying the economy. As for Iran, they need to be taken out, NOW! They are a pus filled infection on this planet.”
  • “Is Ron Paul a Jimmy Carter replica? He needs to be sent off and released on the Afghanistan/Pakistan border. As a life long registered Republican, I will vote for Obama if Ron Paul win the Republican nomination. Puttin would make for a better President than Ron.
Ron is a total loser, a Bolshevik !!!!! How low has the Republican party gone, to have him a a presidential candidate. Disgraceful”

The truth is the U.S. policy of the past 50-plus years of meddling in the affairs of other countries by covertly backing coups, propping up friendly dictators and fighting proxy wars with Russia and China — using billions of dollars stolen from the American people — have only made the world a more dangerous place. Sadly, not more than three in 10 people seem to understand this. They’ve swallowed the lie that America’s overseas adventures are not empire building, they are simply making the world safe for democracy. They live in a state of confusion and cognitive dissonance.

GUNSAMERICA: 2nd Amendment Voters Should Vote RON PAUL

By Paul Helinski

Ron Paul 2012

As the New Hampshire primary approaches nobody should question who the real 2nd Amendment candidate is. It is Ron Paul. The mainstream media is ignoring Ron Paul as a viable candidate, and many of them have come right out and admitted that they will skip over covering Ron Paul no matter how many votes he gets, but you can’t silence the people forever. I don’t expect that Ron Paul will win my former home state of New Hampshire. But if you plan to vote in a primary this election and you vote for anyone other than Ron Paul, be very clear that you are not voting for a Constitutional America, and you are not voting for 2nd Amendment freedom.

That is why I am just going to vote for Ron Paul, come what may.

The Reality of Islam: Knowing the Real Enemy

Mike Scruggs

Just in case you were thinking that the Palestinians are not a serious threat to the continued existence of Israel, you might want to review some of the rhetoric spouted at a recent pro-Hamas rally in Gaza. On November 3, 2011, Al-aqsa TV aired coverage of the Gaza rally. The rally organizer was frank in his hatred for Jews and Israel, saying:

“Islamic Militants in Gaza: Allah’s teachings are the fire with which we harvest the skulls of the Jews…We move closer to Allah through blood, body parts, and martyrs.”

Here are some excerpts translated from the speaker’s long train of hatred for Jews and the State of Israel:

“Praise be to you our Lord (Muhammad), You have made our killing of the Jews an act of worship, through which we come closer to you.”

“Allah’s prayers upon you, our beloved Prophet. You have made your teachings into constitutions for us—the light with which we dissipate the darkness of the occupation, and the fire with which we harvest the skulls of the Jews.

“Yes, our beloved brothers, even though the entire world moves closer to Allah through fasting, through hunger, and through tears, we are a people that moves closer to Allah through blood, through body parts, through martyrs.”

“Oh sons of Palestine, oh sons of the Gaza Strip, oh mujahideen (holy warriors)—wage Jihad, wreak destruction, blow up and harvest the heads of the Zionists. Words are useless by now. The lie of peace is gone. Only weapons are of any use—the path of (recently killed) Yousuf and Ali, the path of martyrdom and Jihad. Only our wounds talk on our behalf. We speak nothing but the language of struggle, of Jihad, or rockets, of bombs, of cannons and of martyrdom-seekers. This is the language in which we talk and negotiate with the Zionist enemy.

“We say to the Zionists; Like a bad seed, we shall uproot you from our land, so that it can blossom in the light of the everlasting sun of our Jihad, and our invincible religion. Jerusalem is not yours—get out of it! Haifa is not yours—get out of it! Tel Aviv is not yours—get out of it! Oh Zionists, get out before we expel you. These are the words of the mujahideen (holy warriors)”

Two major political parties compete for power among the Palestinians: the terrorist groups Hamas and Fatah. Hamas was established by the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt as a way of making political and armed conflict against Israel. With the Muslim Brotherhood gaining power in Egypt, Israel’s survival has been jeopardized.

So far, President Obama has tried to solve the Middle East’s terrorist proclivities by reaching out to the Islamists. In domestic politics, he has tried to erase every sign that the United States is threatened by any form of Islamic terrorism. Even the “War on Terror” is out the door. Several past presidential administrations tried to disconnect any association with Islam and Jihad with terrorism. But the rhetoric that Islam is “a religion of peace and tolerance” is beginning to wear thin with the American people. Americans have become more realistic about the nature Islam. Far from peaceful and tolerant, the teachings of the Koran and Muhammad are filled with passages calling Muslims to dominate the world by whatever means necessary. Muhammad’s favorite method was the sword.

Nevertheless, the Obama administration is trying to ban any recognition that modern terrorism is closely liked to Islam, the Koran, and the teachings of Muhammad.

Fortunately, several Republican presidential candidates are now insisting that the American people should know the truth about Islam and Jihad.

In the January 7 New Hampshire Presidential Debate, candidate Rick Santorum first criticized the results of the President’s conciliatory approach to Islamic terrorists:

“He has been making mistakes at every turn in Iran, in Egypt, I would argue, Libya, Syria, Israel. All of these places, he has made mistakes on the ground that have shown the people in that region that we are the weak horse. That is something that cannot happen because it will cause events like you’re seeing in the Straits of Hormuz. There will be push, push. America is soft and so they can be pushed around.”

Then he took issue with the President’s extreme political correctness in denying the reality of Islam, strongly implying that Obama’s decision processes to get out of Iraq and Afghanistan were based on political correctness rather than truth:

“…you make that decision based on an analysis of understanding how virulent the threat of radical Islam is. And you confront that threat not just militarily, and importantly not just militarily. You confront it first by being honest with the American public about what this threat is. This president has sanitized every defense document, everything. There’s no — the — the word radical Islam doesn’t appear anywhere.

Why? Because we are fighting political correct (ness) — we’re trying to fight this politically correct war and not being honest with the American public as to who the enemy is, how virulent they are and why they hate us and what we must do to stop them.”

In 512 BC, when Chinese General Sun Tzu said that knowing your enemy is key to victory in war, he was speaking of knowing realities rather than political correct fiction.
