It’s worldview, not artistic merit, that helps unpopular films dominate the Academy Awards.
Every new Academy Award ceremony is a study in dramatic shifts in worldviews. Homosexual themes dominated this year. There were so many gender-bending themes in Albert Nobbs that it was hard to keep up. It was Victor/ Victoria (1982) —a woman playing a man playing a woman — on steroids or estrogen, depending on what way the gender was bending.
There was the lesbian killer in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
Al Gore, who came within a few hundred votes of being elected president in 2000, has designed a blueprint to overhaul capitalism to create a sustainable capitalism that will support lasting economic growth. He says that the way capitalism is now practiced does not “...incorporate sufficient regard for its impact on people, society and the planet.”
Up until the Industrial Revolution in the mid-1700s most people lived at a subsistence level of income, and starvation was a constant threat. Only since that time, thanks to capitalism, has the world ever seen “lasting economic growth.” Most of human history has been the search for sufficient calories to survive, and people who lived prior to the twentieth century would have been astounded to witness people today who actually have too much food, and are trying to lose weight.
Fifty years ago nobody had cellular telephones, microwave ovens, or personal computers. Air conditioned homes and automobiles were a rarity, and color television was new and equally rare. Today we take all these things for granted, as we have hundreds of available television channels, even more content on the internet, as we drive around in our air conditioned automobiles and travel anywhere in the world in a matter of hours in jet aircraft.All this happened in a few hundred years, thanks to capitalism.
The response to the January 27th article in the Wall Street Journal by sixteen leading scientists, “No Need to Panic About Global Warming,” has been nothing short of explosive both at the Journal and to my blogging on the matter, “Leading Scientists Debunk Climate Alarmism.”
However, the response from the mega-funded alarmist establishment (see here and here) fails to address the issues raised by the original article. Instead, the responding critics’ defense consists of the patronizing view that only they are the “climate experts” and the same old nonsensical, anti-scientific view that “Research shows that more than 97% of scientists actively publishing in the field agree that climate change is real and human caused.” As the late Michael Crichton well stated, “‘Consensus science’ is not science.”
Meanwhile, we now learn that the influential water and climate scientist and environmental-alarmist crusader Peter Gleick was behind the recent saga to steal the financial records of the Heartland Institute and launch a campaign of libel to try to destroy the free-market-based Heartland by using a forged document to make fraudulent claims. Gleick himself has epitomized everything that the Zeitgeist superficially holds dear, being a MacArthur “Genius,” member of the National Academy of Sciences, Chairman of the American Geophysical Union’s Task Force on Scientific Ethics, board member of the scientific establishment’s take-no-prisoners enforcer of the official, intertwined canon of scientism and naturalism, the National Center for Science Education, etc. Having originally tried to duck the matter, Gleick confessed saying that he was seeking to protect “rational debate” and that:
I want to extend my sincere condolences to the families of the Army Colonel and Major who were killed by Afghanistan security forces over this “burning Koran” episode.
If we had resolute leadership in the White House, we would have explained that these Islamic terrorist enemy combatants detained at the Parwan facility used the Koran to write jihadist messages to pass to others.
In doing so, they violated their own cultural practice and defiled the Koran and turned the Koran into contraband.
The Islamic cultural practice and Parwan detention facility procedures support burning the “contraband.”
Instead here we go again, offering apology after apology and promising to “hold those responsible accountable.” Responsible for what?
When tolerance becomes a one-way street it leads to cultural suicide.
This time it immediately led to the deaths of two American Warriors.
America is awaiting the apology from President Hamid Karzai.
On 27 February 1933 the Reichstag, Germany's parliament building in Berlin, was set afire. The Nazis blamed the Communists for the fire, & used it to justify seizing more power & suppressing more rights. Wow. I'm glad stuff like that doesn't happen in America. What? What Patriot Act?
On 27 February 1864 the Confederate government opened another prisoner of war camp, Camp Sumter, near Andersonville, Georgia. Post-war Red Republican propaganda made out the suffering of US war prisoners at Andersonville to be intentional, ignoring that by law they were provided with the same rations as Confederate soldiers in the field, that the Lincoln government refused all offers of prisoner exchange, refused to allow medications for prisoners through its blockades, and even used Confederate prisoners as human shields in battle. Andersonville's commander, a Swiss named Henry Wirtz, was made the scapegoat for the US government's refusal to aid its POWs & legally lynched shortly after the war. Meanwhile, nothing is said about the thousands of Southern prisoners who were intentionally starved and frozen to death by the Lincoln government.
Just returned from the Abbeville Institute conference at Stone Mountain and was able to visit the new Memorial Walk on the lawn in front of the huge carving of Davis, Lee and Jackson. The Walk contains stops for each State in the American Confederacy, and I was deeply honored to assist Dr. Clyde Wilson with the text and images of the North Carolina block pictured below. The image of Captain Claudius Denson’s “Duplin Greys” [which later became Company E, 20th North Carolina Regiment] was used; and we also noted Major Charles M. Stedman, the last Southern veteran to serve in Congress. Many thanks to Dr. Don Livingston of the Abbeville Institute for his herding the Memorial Walk project along.
Born in Pittsboro, Stedman enlisted in the Fayetteville Light Infantry in 1861 and campaigned with Lee and Jackson -- wounded three times. At the sad retreat of Lee’s army from Petersburg to Appomattox in 1865, General Louis G. Young of Georgia said of Major Stedman: “In my memory is vividly stamped the face and figure of Major C. M. Stedman, of the 44th North Carolina Regiment, as he advanced to meet me, his sword drawn and raised, saying in loud tones: “Our men are ready to advance and only await the command.” I was very much tempted to give the command, and many a time since wished I had.”
After the war Stedman married Katherine DeRosset Wright, daughter of Joshua Grainger Wright. He established the law practice of Wright & Stedman in 1867, was elected lieutenant-governor of North Carolina in 1884, serving from 1885-1889, and in 1898 moved to Greensboro. He owned the impressive Taylor home on Market Street which he sold to the Wilmington Light Infantry in the early 1890’s. He is buried in Fayetteville’s Cross Creek Cemetery.
Both the Duplin Greys and Stedman are now properly immortalized in Georgia granite at the Stone Mountain memorial.Bernhard Thuersam
The food stamp program, part of the Department of Agriculture, is pleased to be distributing the greatest amount of food stamps, ever.
Meanwhile, the National Park Service, part of the more responsible Department of Interior, asks us to please "Do Not Feed The Animals" because the animals may grow dependent and not learn to take care of themselves.
I think Agriculture could learn something from Interior.
As the “clean energy” scam collapses around the world, our Great Leader plans a comeback.
President Obama’s business tax reform plan released today says:
Finally, this Framework recognizes that, as we expand manufacturing in the United States, the tax code should encourage doing so in way that is sustainable and that puts the United States in the lead in manufacturing the clean energy technologies of the future. This will create jobs here at home and can also have important spillover benefits. Moving toward a clean energy economy will reduce air and water pollution and enhance our national security by reducing dependence on oil. Cleaner energy will play a crucial role in slowing global climate change, meeting the President’s goal of producing 80 percent of our nation’s electricity from clean sources by 2035…
Obama plans to accomplish this goal as follows:
Extend, consolidate, and enhance key tax incentives to encourage investment in clean energy. The President’s Framework would make permanent the tax credit for the production of renewable electricity, in order to provide a strong, consistent incentive to encourage investments in renewable energy technologies like wind and solar. As with the R&E Tax Credit, the United States has to date provided only a temporary production tax credit for renewable electricity generation. This approach has created an uncertain investment climate, undermined the effectiveness of our tax expenditures, and hindered the development of a clean energy sector in the United States. In addition, the structure of renewable production and investment tax credits has required many firms to invest in inefficient tax planning through tax equity structures so that they can benefit even when they do not have tax liability in a given year because of a lack of taxable income. The President’s Framework would address this issue by making the permanent production tax credit refundable.
Here’s where our energy comes from today:
It is a testament to the power of government propaganda that several generations of self-described conservatives have held as their core belief that war and militarism are consistent with limited, constitutional government. These conservatives think they are "defending freedom" by supporting every military adventure that the state concocts. They are not.
Last Wednesday in the White House briefing room, the administration’s press secretary, Jay Carney, opened on a somber note, citing the deaths of Marie Colvin and Anthony Shadid, two reporters who had died “in order to bring truth” while reporting in Syria.
Jake Tapper, the White House correspondent for ABC News, pointed out that the administration had lauded brave reporting in distant lands more than once and then asked, “How does that square with the fact that this administration has been so aggressively trying to stop aggressive journalism in the United States by using the Espionage Act to take whistle-blowers to court?”
He then suggested that the administration seemed to believe that “the truth should come out abroad; it shouldn’t come out here.”
This group is for self-proclaimed Marxists/Communists/Socialists for the election of Barack Obama to the Presidency. By no means is he a true Marxist, but under Karl Marx's writings we are to support the party with the best interests of the mobilization of the proletariat. Though the Democratic Socialists of America or the Communist Patty of America may have more Socialististic values, it is pointless to vote for these candidates due to the fact that there is virutally no chance they will be elected on a National level. The members of this group are not Leninists, Stalinists, etc. and do not support or condone the actions of North Korea, China, Cuba or any other self-procalimed "Marxist States." They do not in anyway represent the Marxist philosophy nor do they represent Socialism/ Communsim. We support Barack Obama because he knows what is best for the people!

Today’s communique will be short; nothing like yesterday’s Twitter tutorial. I’m excited to see that Twitter, the switch engine of the internet, is really heating up with Operation #EFAD tweets. Today let’s keep the momentum building. Keep posting new tweets, and re-tweeting (RT) any that you see. Be sure to include #EFAD, so we can find them all for easy re-tweeting.
But Twitter is just one cog in the internet engine.
Keep posting about Operation #EFAD on Facebook, and firearms, RKBA and other freedom-oriented blogs and forums. Then do Google searches for keywords and phrases such as “Enemies Foreign And Domestic and Fast And Furious”, to tie those two stories together at the hip. When you find a link to Operation #EFAD, click the link, and try to leave a reply which includes the searchable keywords again, then copy the link into Twitter or Facebook. You know the drill by now. “Round and round she goes…”
This phase is not exciting to perform nor dramatic in immediately visible results attained. We are just prepping the battlefield, so that on D-Day, March 1, anybody searching for any information on Enemies Foreign And Domestic will be overwhelmed by the massive avalanche of positive information. We are just teeing up the football and getting the team warmed up for the kickoff on March 1.
In a stark warning ahead of next month’s Budget, the Chancellor said there was little the Coalition could do to stimulate the economy.
Mr Osborne made it clear that due to the parlous state of the public finances the best hope for economic growth was to encourage businesses to flourish and hire more workers.
“The British Government has run out of money because all the money was spent in the good years,” the Chancellor said. “The money and the investment and the jobs need to come from the private sector.”
Uh, wait a second.... Britain is a currency issuer as well. This means it can "print", just as can the US (by borrowing more and more from people.)
Someone, it appears, has figured out that this doesn't work because "printing" (e.g. borrowing more and then possibly QEing it) simply acts as a tax upon the poeople, and therefore is exactly identical in terms of its effect on the economy as doing what no politician wants to say out loud -- raising taxes.
See, it's simple folks when you start looking at the world (and its component parts) as a balance sheet.

In the last couple of weeks, the energy from our supporters has been explosive. Just this week we've added over 28,000 volunteers. The campaign office has been buzzing with phone calls and emails from allies all across the state asking about ways they can help protect marriage in North Carolina. However, the opponents of marriage have not remained neutral. They have boasted that over the past week they have added 14,000 volunteers and mislead 15,000 voters through scare mongering designed to misconstrue the Marriage Amendment.
This is where you come in. With slightly over two months remaining until the May 8th election date, time is short. You have an opportunity to counter this deceit by informing the public about what the Marriage amendment really says. As one of many supporters of marriage, we’re reaching out to you to assist us in spreading the word about protecting this important institution, to your friends, family members, colleagues and neighbors.

Eminent domain: A term that can strike fear in the heart of any property owner, as Susette Kelo, lead plaintiff in the infamous 2005 Kelo v. City of New London case knows only too well. Others since that calamitous decision have also felt the helplessness of having their private property rights assaulted by developers of private economic projects. Thankfully, there have been some judicial reviews that have protected private property rights. But why should home or small business owners be put through an expensive and stressful legal battle to keep what is rightfully theirs?
Help is on the way with the Private Property Rights Protection Act of 2012, H.R. 1433, introduced by Wisconsin Republican James Sensenbrenner; it already has 28 cosponsors. Democrats and Republicans alike are supporting the bill. It was amended and reported out of the House Judiciary Committee with a 23-5 approval vote on January 24. The House is expected to vote on H.R. 1433 at 6:30 p.m. ET on February 27, 2012.
According to H.R. 1433: “No State or political subdivision of a State shall exercise its power of eminent domain, or allow the exercise of such power by any person or entity to which such power has been delegated, over property to be used for economic development or over property that is used for economic development within 7 years after that exercise, if that State or political subdivision receives Federal economic development funds during any fiscal year in which the property is so used or intended to be used." Furthermore, "The Federal Government or any authority of the Federal Government shall not exercise its power of eminent domain to be used for economic development."
In Kelo, the federal government unfairly stretched the “takings clause” when it declared that economic development projects more than met the “public use” criteria of the Fifth Amendment, once meant to protect our property rights from undue government interference. Private ownership is a fundamental right and has always been the sound underpinning for security in ownership. Coupled with the Fourteenth Amendment, the government is prohibited from taking private property "without due process of law."
If the federal government had not violated these basic principles in modern times, H.R. 1433 would not be necessary. The force of H.R. 1433 lies not so much with any type of imposed penalties, but more within the realm of motivation. If states and localities know they will lose federal economic development funds if they wrongly use eminent domain, they will be far more respectful of others' private property rights to begin with.
To secure what was once the almost sacred principle of private ownership, and to protect citizens from having their property stripped from them due to abuse of eminent domain by officials, please contact your Representative and Senators and have them support, promote, and pass the Private Property Rights Protection Act of 2012, H.R. 1433.

If a Republican beats President Barack Obama in the fall and Republicans regain control of Congress, it is imperative that what happened during the last decade when Republicans were in power does not happen again. Yet, conservative representatives and senators will be even more important if Obama wins reelection.
One candidate that has the potential to be a conservative rock star in the Senate is Ted Cruz, who is running for the U.S. Senate seat from Texas. If conservatives think Marco Rubio is impressive, Cruz is even more so. He is a Tea Party candidate endorsed by Senators Jim DeMint, Rand Paul, Pat Toomey and Mike Lee. Cruz has stood up for Second Amendment rights — as he did in the Heller case (the Washington, D.C. Second Amendment case) — and stood firmly against the application of international law in domestic cases — as he did in the Medellin case.
He is a candidate who is being powered by the grassroots but who can also articulate the limited government, fiscal conservative message of the Tea Party that galvanized Republicans in 2010 to a broader audience, and that is why many conservative intelligentsia figures and prominent former Reagan advisers support him.
In Texas, Cruz is running against an establishment Republican, Texas Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, who would most likely go to Washington and drive conservatives crazy. For some reason — perhaps because the presidential contest has overshadowed some local races — Cruz has not received the attention and the momentum such a movement conservative deserves.
That needs to change, starting now. Cruz is too good of a conservative and his potential too great for conservatives for us not go all in on his candidacy. He is needed in Washington. And his life’s story is something the Republican Party can use more of.
Notorious whistleblowing website WikiLeaks has published five million emails from a geopolitical analysis company that Reuters likened to a “shadow CIA.”
The emails, stolen in late December from the U.S.-based company, could reveal private information on Stratfor readers and subscribers, the details of sensitive sources, and even throw light on the intelligence-gathering community, Reuters reported.
According to a WikiLeaks statement accompanying the posting of the documents, they reveal the inner workings of the intelligence publisher, which works with companies such as Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Raytheon, and various government agencies.
“The emails show Stratfor’s web of informers, pay-off structure, payment-laundering techniques and psychological methods,” the website reads. It cites a Dec. 6, 2011, email from CEO George Friedman to Stratfor analyst Reva Bhalla, on how to exploit an Israeli intelligence informant providing information on the medical condition of Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez.
