Writer offers reasonable gun limits

A parody?

VERBATIM

To the editor:

In the wake of the Dec. 14 gun massacre of school children and staff members at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut, I came up with a few reasonable proposals for gun regulations.

I’m sure they have absolutely no chance of adoption, but I thought I’d share them anyway.

1) Preserve the 2nd Amendment.

2) Each household will be allowed to possess a maximum of one weapon per adult for home protection.

3) All weapons to be sold out of government run retailers, like ABC stores in North Carolina, which are the only legal outlet for liquor.

4) Each household will be allowed the limited amount of ammunition necessary for practice, etc. Ammunition will also be sold by government- run retailers.

5) All purchases will be tracked by computer.

6) Privately run gun ranges for practice and sport shooting will be allowed. They will be able to sell ammunition for use on site.

7) Additional ownership of hunting guns will be allowed, which must be single-shot only (good enough for Dan’l Boone, it’s good enough for you).

8) Possession of guns/ammunition over the limit will be penalized.

  1. Sigh - his first comment was wrong - the 'gun' (whichever one(s) he actually used) didn't massacre anyone - the demented human did - he merely used gun(s) to do the deed.
As to his numbered list - it should have stopped at #1 - EVERYTHING else he lists is an 'infringement' of one sort or another. His #2 is sufficient example: what about a person who hunts a variety of large and small game and also competes in various shooting sports? His proposal has effectively disallowed such varied activities.

    1. I'm still not convinced that it isn't tongue-in-cheek, but agreed.

So not the first you've read of him I take it, which I guess means it's not a spoof.

  5. One question. Why does anyone or government have the right to tell me what I need? Do you need a Prius? Do you need an SUV? Do you need anything that you have and the numbers you have them in? How many knives are in your kitchen? It might be too many?

Once you start this, where do you stop? Not that there is any right to start in the first place.

Logic says don't start since that is not the answer to the problem anyways, it's merely another way to avoid dealing with the real problems with serious, logical answers WITHOUT interfering with the rights of anyone..
