NC: Homeschool Education Tax Credit

 http://www.ncleg.net/House/pictures/hiRes/633.jpg

HB 144, Homeschool Education Tax Credit, would give homeschool families a nonrefundable tax credit of $2,500 per child per year.  That figure is only half of what the State spends per student in the public schools each year.  It is an attempt to give some relief to parents who bear the expense and sacrifice of educating their own children, while still paying taxes to educate other people’s children in the public schools.  It was referred to Education, then Finance, then Appropriations, but coded red so that it cannot be heard.  We can’t upset the NEA, after all.

I suspect that in the near future most will homeschool as the school districts will be bankrupt. I read an interesting article at Generational Dynamics a couple of weeks ago that mentioned a 1950's teacher who mentioned that during the depression and hard years after that for every three teachers only one war retained and expected to do what the three teachers before had done. It would seem that there won't be time for Zinn history or new math.

  2. You can only hope that the school districts will be bankrupt. With that kind of attitude i feel sorry for the children you are homeschooling. What kind of society would we live in if there were no public schools. Not all parents (probably most ) are not qualified to homeschool. While our schools Are not perfect, they are the only chance of a decent education most people have.

  3. I am glad to know that others have pondered the same question I have. Why are homeschoolers not able to receive a tax exemption for educating their children. A lot of schools are inadequate with aggressive instructors who are just teaching children to test. Recess is now a reward and must be earned. Hopefully the government will see the benefits this tax credit will provide. If my child is not attending a public school and schools receive their funds based on enrollment ( if I'm not mistaken) then those parents whose children are not attending public schools should be able to receive credit for legitimate expenses.

    1. Absolutely and I would like credit for all the years I've paid for publix schools and received no deduction for my homeschooling, but commies don't go for that.
