Ted Cruz: House GOP's Amnesty Push Will Ruin Hopes of Retaking Senate

http://cdn.breitbart.com/mediaserver/Breitbart/Big-Government/2013/Immigration/stop-illegal-immigration-sign-ap.jpg

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) thinks that the House GOP leadership’s renewed push this week to grant amnesty to illegal aliens would destroy the Republican Party’s chances at retaking the Senate in 2014.

Cruz questioned how establishment Republicans unilaterally caving to Democrats on everything from the farm bill to the budget to the debt ceiling and more could think amnesty is a good idea at this time.

"Right now, Republican leadership in both chambers is aggressively urging members to stand down on virtually every front: on the continuing resolution, on the budget, on the farm bill, on the debt ceiling,” Cruz said in a statement provided exclusively to Breitbart News on Thursday.

NC: GRNC: Pro-gun Rep. Larry Pittman targeted by RINOs who would sell you out

He is a good man and anti-Communist Core.

Representative Larry Pittman (R, Cabarrus, GRNC ****) was critical to passing the largest expansion of gun rights in North Carolina history, House Bill 937.

How so? With GRNC support, Pittman led a “floor fight” to return restaurant carry to a bill from which leadership had stripped it. Realizing the seriousness of the effort, House leadership later moved restaurant carry, the Senate improved it, and the rest is history.

It takes guts to stand up to leadership in defense of gun rights, but there is a price: So called “mainstream” Republicans are determined to remove Pittman. Now the most pro-gun member of the NC House is facing a well-financed RINO in the primary. What will you do about it?

GRNC President Paul Valone invites you to...

Pro-gun Trudy Wade plans fundraiser

Another friend of NC gun owners is Sen. Trudy Wade (R, Guilford, GRNC ****) who is campaigning for re-election to the NC Senate District 27.

Minimum Wage Laws Kill Jobs

Via Ninety Miles From Tyranny

President Obama set the chattering classes abuzz after his unilateral announcement to raise the minimum wage. During his State of the Union address, he sang the praises for his action, saying that “It’s good for the economy; it’s good for America.[1] Yet this conclusion doesn’t pass the economic smell test; just look at the data from Europe.

A boycott of Girl Scout cookies

A major Roman Catholic organization on Thursday called for a boycott of Thin Mints, Shortbread, Peanut Butter Sandwich and other Girl Scout cookies, seeking to undercut funding for the pro-abortion agenda of the historic girls’ organization.

“The Girl Scouts was once a trusted organization dedicated to character building in young girls and women. Now, GSUSA is abusing that trust,” said Judie Brown, president of American Life League, the nation’s oldest Catholic pro-life education and advocacy group.

“Most parents and grandparents remain painfully unaware the GSUSA has introduced so-called ‘family planning’ ideology in its curriculum and promotes groups like Planned Parenthood to our daughters and granddaughters,” she said.

"Beast" Butler, the Anti-Semite

Mrs. Rebecca Levy resided in the New Orleans home of her brother, Confederate cabinet member Judah Benjamin, at the time of the enemy occupation. Northern General Butler seized the home “and also certain other possessions which [he] could lay his hands on, including a black tin box full of Tehuantepec bonds and other papers.” Mrs. Levy escaped to Georgia for the war’s duration.

Butler, the Anti-Semite

“Some of the most prominent persons of the Union were imbued with prejudice against the Jews.  One of these was Major-General Benjamin F. Butler of Massachusetts, conniving careerist and political opportunist of major proportions, who was given the title “Beast” by the Confederacy for his severity during the early military occupation of New Orleans.

One of his better known victims was Mrs. Philip Phillips, wife of the Alabama Congressman, a fire-eating secessionist in skirts.  Butler ordered her imprisoned on Ship Island for months . . . . The war Butler waged upon this Jewess and other Southern women made him the Confederacy’s “Public Enemy Number One,” with a price upon his head.

The General revealed the extent to which he had imbibed prejudicial conceptions of the Jews. They were [to him] a tightly-knit and highly organized nation who set themselves apart  and defended themselves against others even when one of their group was wrong.  They were all “traders, merchants, and bankers.” They were supporting the Confederacy with whole heart – “two of them certainly are in the Confederate Cabinet.”

[A Jewish editor] wondered who the Cabinet officers were . . . the progenitor of “the tribe of Benjamin, the Jewish Secretary of State,” as Butler referred to him in another connection; and then a highly inaccurate report: “I refer to Mr. Memminger as the other member of the Confederate Cabinet.  I have been informed that Mr. [Stephen] Mallory is also of the Jewish faith or nationality.” It was apparent that Butler was one of those who, without further investigation, adopt any rumors which support their prejudices.

The Jewish Record of New York . . . reported that Butler had said “he could suck the blood of every Jew, and he would detain every Jew as long as he can.” The editor of the Record said he was afraid to publish details of Butler’s mistreatment of Jewish prisoners because it would only give him a chance to “increase his severities” against them.”

NC: Common Core Propaganda On a wall in Raleigh

Here are the statements, in quotations, followed by my comments in response.
"Let us teach honestly and boldly that education is not only the best thing for which public money can be spent, but that it is also the most expensive.  Nothing except ignorance is more costly than education."
How self-serving can you get?!  This is nothing less than an arrogant declaration by the elitist educational bureaucracy that, even as our public educational system continues to crank out graduates who can't even read their diplomas, they will demand more and more power and funding for their social engineering education monopoly.  This is not a reflection on dedicated teachers who do the best they can for our children, but on the corrupt system that pressures them to serve an agenda that is detrimental to true, worthwhile education.
"Love worked where discipline failed."
How preposterous!  Do these people not understand that discipline is an act of love?  Discipline is not synonymous with punishment.  Discipline may sometimes have to include punishment when punishment becomes necessary.  However, discipline is training.  Discipline is setting a positive example, sharing truthful knowledge, and influencing the student, or disciple, to deal responsibly with that training and to embrace self-discipline.  Caring enough for our children to urge them toward an informed, responsible and self-disciplined approach to life is a very loving thing to do, even if it sometimes requires punishment to get their attention and demonstrate the gravity of their actions.
"by example, almost never by words"
This is an insipid half-truth.  Certainly, an example that shows our words to be insincere benefits no one, and words are pretty empty if our example contradicts them.  Yet, without a cogent explanation, few will learn the meaning and value of the example or the value of following it.
"Learning in old age is writing on sand, but learning in youth is writing on stone."
There is a bit more truth to this one.  It is true that when we get very old, we retain less of what we once knew and find it hard to learn new things, while young minds normally can learn and retain knowledge much more easily.  For instance, it is much easier for a child to learn a foreign language than it is for an adult.  However, one glaring implication of this statement is that it is a waste of time trying to teach older people anything.  It implies that members of the older generation are old fogies and that young people know everything.   Therefore young people don’t need to listen to the older generation.  This tends toward a devaluing of the older generation, who have much to teach us if we will only give them a chance.  The idea that childhood is the time of perfection is wishful thinking.
So much for your tax dollars at work at DPI!  We'd be much better served by putting the authority in public education back at the local level, in the hands of parents and teachers, in that order.

Rookie cop who shot 72-year-old dead in his home while investigating burglary at the WRONG address will not be charged

No consequences: A grand jury has decided not to indict the rookie police officer who shot dead 72-year-old Jerry Waller (right) on accident last May. Pictured above with wife Kathy

A grand jury in Tarrant County, Texas has decided not to indict the rookie police officer who shot dead a homeowner while investigating a burglary at the wrong address.

Last May, R.A. 'Alex' Hoeppner and his partner Benjamin Hanlon accidentally started searching 72-year-old Jerry Waller's property, confusing it in the dark for a house across the street.

Waller was in bed with his wife Kathy at the time, and was stirred by the police officer's flashlights. Fearing a prowler was outside, he grabbed his .35-caliber-pistol and went to investigate.

According to a search warrant affidavit released by the Star-Telegram in July, the two officers encountered an armed Waller near the corner of his home, told them they were police and to drop his gun.

Waller didn't drop his gun and instead raised it at Hoeppner who proceeded to fatally shoot the senior citizen seven times.

U. of Michigan Black Student Union: Stop mentioning race in crime alerts

Black student union

The Black Student Union at the University of Michigan (UMBSU) is back in the news. Last week, LU reported that the UMBSU had delivered an ultimatum to the administration to meet seven demands (including a requirement that 10% of the campus be represented by black students) or face “physical action.” That sounds like a threat of violence, which may well explain the BSU’s latest demand: that the race of suspects in campus-related crime be stricken from crime alerts.

The Rodent Retires! Halleluiah!

Rep. Henry Waxman, one of Congress' fiercest negotiators and a policy expert on everything from clean air to health care, will retire at the end of the year after four decades in the House.

"It's time for someone else to have the chance to make his or her mark," the liberal California Democrat said in a statement announcing he won't seek re-election.

"I never imagined I would be in the House for 40 years and be able to advance every issue I care deeply about," he added. "It has been an extraordinary experience."

Not one, however, without a degree of disillusionment.

In his 3 ½-page statement, Waxman explicitly condemned conservative House Republicans elected in 2010. "I abhor the extremism of the Tea Party," he said, adding he's "embarrassed that the greatest legislative body in the world too often operates in a partisan intellectual vacuum, denying science, refusing to listen to experts, and ignoring facts."

Stanford law prof: Second Amendment is about restricting gun rights

Chicago moves toward gun rights (REUTERS/Adrees Latif)

A Stanford University law professor took the view that the Second Amendment permits strong gun control, telling the crowd that “restriction has to be at the core” of the right to carry a gun.

John J. Donohue, a member of the Stanford Law School faculty, made his remarks during a debate with attorney Donald Kilmer, an adjunct professor at Lincoln Law School of San Jose.

“I support the right to self-defense,” said Donohue during the debate, according to The Stanford Review. “But that doesn’t mean that you have a right to high-capacity magazines.”

GOA Action Alert: Boehner Working with Obama to Ambush House Republicans on Bloomberg-backed Immigration Changes

logo

“Democrat control of Congress bodes well for oppressive gun laws, [and] a huge influx of newly legal voters from cultures where draconian government control over private firearm ownership is an unquestioned matter [helps]. Bloomberg can hardly be unaware of that.” -- The Examiner, January 29, 2014

The good thing about anti-gun liberals in Washington is that they are pathologically incapable of keeping their mouths shut.

And, Wednesday morning, shortly before 9:00, MSNBC commentator Dick Gregory announced that House Speaker John Boehner, the day before, had told a private meeting of reporters that he had been talking with Barack Obama "a lot" about pushing immigration reform.

It's pretty clear why Barack Obama wants a bill which would either legalize or grant citizenship to as many as 11.5 million people who, according to Latinos expressing their opinions in a Pew poll, would cast 88% of their votes for liberals like Barack Obama.

It's also clear what Speaker Boehner has in mind:  If he sabotages his own party, the liberal media will throw him a "doggie treat."

But, for other House Republicans, the advantage of having an Obama/Boehner knife in their back is a little less clear.

A note on why gun owners have "skin" in the immigration game: By turning a net 8,000,000 people into an "Obama army," even "legalization" without immediate citizenship would fundamentally change electoral politics for the 2014 elections.

This is why, along with gun control, former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg has made immigration "reform" his central priority.

The anti-gun Bloomberg knows that "legalization" of persons unlawfully in the U.S. will create an "Obama army" which will transform the 2014 elections and achieve the almost impossible task of delivering the House and the Senate to the party of gun control.

With Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid in power in 2015, the "Obama army" will then get their "citizenship" reward -- and gun control will advance.

This “Obama army” has already made several appearances:

Remember how, in November, children of illegals ambushed House Speaker John Boehner in a local diner over breakfast?

Remember how a mob of pro-amnesty spectators turned the U.S. Senate into a pep rally last June by chanting Obama's campaign slogan, "Yes we can," from the Senate gallery?

Remember how Bloomberg orchestrated out-of-state agitators who descended on the town hall meetings of Senators like Kelly Ayotte and Jeff Flake in order to demand gun control last Spring?

Multiply this by a million, and you will understand the ramifications of giving Obama an anti-gun army, going into the 2014 elections.

ACTION:  Contact your congressman. Tell him to stand up to House Speaker John Boehner at this weekend's "retreat" and to oppose the creation of an "Obama army." There are separate letters for Republican and Democrat Congressmen.  Based on your zip code, the correct letter will be automatically selected.

The Unbelievable State of Parental Rights in America

On Tuesday President Obama gave his “State of the Union” address, in which he gave his view of where our nation is right now and where we are headed.

But what about parental rights? Where are we and where are we headed? It turns out we are not as free and secure as we would like to be, and we’re heading in the wrong direction. Here is an overview of parental rights in America as we begin 2014.

Medical Freedom - Hospitals:

Boston Children’s Hospital and the Massachusetts Department of Youth and Families take another child hostage because hospital staff disagree with the parents on the child’s medical diagnosis.

In California, “Baby Sammy” was taken from his parents because they left one hospital to seek a second opinion at another before subjecting the child to open-heart surgery.

Here we are.  A system in perpetual crisis.  Less and less able to accomplish basic functions.

A system being led by an economic and political leadership increasingly divorced from reality.

A self-aggrandizing leadership unable to do anything but engage in exercise of complex futility (political – healthcare/national insecurity) or fantasy (economic – the shadow banking system).

A complexity made worse by applying technological patches/fixes/solutions to a system in decline.

However, that isn’t where it ends.  Humanity has more in store for it than bureaucracy and markets can make possible.

Something new is coming and its arrival distorts the current system.

It's harder and harder these days to tell a liberal from a conservative -- given the former category's increasingly blatant hostility toward the First Amendment, and the latter's prissy new disdain for the Second Amendment -- but it's still easy to tell a liberal from a libertarian.

Just ask about either Amendment.

If what you get back is a spirited defense of the ideas of this country's Founding Fathers, what you've got is a libertarian. By shameful default, libertarians have become America's last and only reliable stewards of the Bill of Rights.

But if -- and this usually seems a bit more difficult to most people -- you'd like to know whether an individual is a libertarian or a conservative, ask about Abraham Lincoln.
