Kindness Toward the Colored People of the South

 Judge Walter McKenzie Clark

Walter Clark rose from a sixteen year-old North Carolina soldier in Lee’s army who saw the fields of Second Manassas to Bentonville, where he ended the war as a major, to Chief Justice of North Carolina’s Supreme Court. His kind feelings toward those he found less fortunate than him were typical of the South’s leadership, and a high example for others to follow.
Bernhard Thuersam, www.Circa1865.com

Kindness Toward the Colored People of the South:

“Born in a slave-owning home, Clark was taught always to treat the Negroes kindly and to care for them rather than abuse them, as unfortunately some masters did. This attitude he consistently maintained through life. When, in the army, Neverson, the Negro boy who faithfully attended him as a bodyguard, went with him to the line of battle, he would sent the boy back with their horse so that he would be personally out of danger; together they shared their scanty meals, and together they endured war’s hardships as true companions.

As late as 1919, Dr. James E. Shepard, a prominent North Carolina educator and president of the North Carolina College for Negroes at Durham, wrote Clark a letter of appreciation for the services he had rendered the Negroes and for his consistent justice in dealing with them. In reply Clark wrote:

“I have been the employer of colored labor ever since I became of age. I know them well and I have never received anything but kindness at their hands. I have the kindest feeling for the race and have seen the difficulties which surround their efforts to rise to better things. In my judgment, the best remedy for the situation the colored people find themselves is . . . extending the education as far as possible to all your people, impress upon them sobriety, self-control under what at times may be aggravating circumstances, the acquirement of property by industry and thrift, and the attainment, by their personal conduct, of the respect of white people.

Avoid giving this a setback by the intemperate utterances, especially by the young people of your race who are impatient at what they deem continued injustice. Most often this matter is due to the language used by office-seekers, who appeal to and excite race prejudice for their personal ends. I am sure that the vast majority of the white people of North Carolina wish to do equal and exact justice to the colored race, and their number is increasing with the proofs which the colored people are giving that they are better educated and are attaining a higher standard of morality and right living.”

People Immediately Noticed ‘Revolting’ Image Caught in Background of Photo Featuring American Freed From Cuba

U.S. contractor Alan Gross was released by the Cuban government on Wednesday after roughly five years in captivity as part of President Barack Obama’s major, unilateral deal with Cuba.
Critics of the deal were quick to notice something “ironic” in a photo of Gross that was circulating across the Internet on Wednesday.

It’s not the view from his attorney’s office that’s catching people’s attention — it’s the photo of notorious and murderous Cuban revolutionary Che Guevara.

Prosecutor and Sheriff Say They Will Not Enforce I-594 As Written

The top law enforcers of Lewis County are making bold statements regarding the recently enacted gun background check Initiative 594. The sheriff-elect and the prosecutor put out a public letter saying they're not going to make average citizens into criminals.

The new law stemming from I-594 is just 12 days old and already stirring up controversy. The initiative passed by nearly 60 percent of Washington voters requires background checks for private transactions of guns whether at gun shows, online or in person.

Last weekend, the state patrol estimated 1,000 people gathered at the state Capitol for an "I will not comply" rally.

This 1971 Dodge Hemi Challenger R/T is the stuff of which collector dreams are made. It is a genuine factory Hemi 4-speed R/T with Mopar Nationals certification as Unrestored Factory Stock. It is unrestored and original right down to its Goodyear Polyglas GT tires and the factory protective plastic still covering the rear seat belts. As if that was not enough to recommend it to any Mopar aficionado, here are the kickers: its owner, retired railroad worker Greg Hernandez of North Liberty, Iowa, bought it new at Hendryx Motor Company in Cedar Rapids, and he has driven it a total of 1,871 miles.

NC: The Aristocrat of the Old South

 http://www.cfhi.net/images/ChristmasGift_NEW.jpg
 “Chris’mus gif”

Southern planters wondered at how educated men and women of the North, former slaveholders and slave traders themselves, could believe that they would willingly injure black men and women under their care, or allow them to be beaten. The sheer cruelty of New England’s slave trade and its infamous middle passage could never be surpassed by the plantations of the Old South.
Bernhard Thuersam, www.Circa1865.com

The Aristocrat of the Old South

“It is true the aristocrat of the Old South did not go into his blacksmith shop to shoe his horse nor his wife into the kitchen to cook, or to the wash tub to wash, but it was not because they were ashamed or scorned to do it, but because there was no need for them to do these things.

History has greatly maligned the old aristocrat of the South. He was not “haughty,” he was not “purse proud,” and he did not consider himself “of finer clay” than any one else, as history has unfairly represented him.

Aristocracy was then gauged by manners and morals, and not by the size of the bank account, as I fear is too much the case today. Far more time was spent in cultivating the graces and charms of life than in amassing fortunes. They realized that “Manners are of more importance than money and laws” – for manners give form and color to our lives. They felt, as Tennyson said, “Manners are the fruit of lofty natures and noble minds.”

It will take us a long time to undo the falsehoods of history about the civilization of the Old South.

Who was the head of the plantation? Why, “ole Miss,”. . . Her life was a long life of devotion – devotion to her God, devotion to her church . . . devotion to her husband, to her children, to her kinfolks, to her neighbors and friends and to her servants. She could not be idle for she must ever be busy.

“Ole Marster” could delegate many of his duties to the overseer, while he entertained his guests. He would rise early in the morning, eat his breakfast . . . Broiled chicken, stuffed sausage, spareribs, broiled ham and eggs, egg bread, corn muffins, hot rolls, beaten biscuits, batter cakes or waffles with melted butter, syrup or honey, and the half not told.

Then, after smoking his Havana cigar, he would mount his saddle and ride over the plantation to see if the orders given the day before had been fully carried out. Then give the next day’s orders, ride to a neighboring plantation and return in time for an early dinner. Dinner was always midday on the old plantation. If it were summer . . . [he would] lie down on the wide verandah . . . while he took his noon-day nap. If it were winter, he would go into his library, and, before a large, open fireplace with whole logs of wood, he would discourse upon the topics of the day with visitors.

There was no subject with which “Ole Marster” was not at home – whether politics, philosophy, religion, literature, poetry or art. “Ole Marster’s” sons for generations had been well-educated and had a perfect familiarity with the classics – they could read Greek and Latin better than some of us can read English today. The best magazines of the day were upon his library table, and the latest books upon his library shelves.

Time [on the plantation] was measured to Christmas, and three weeks before Christmas Day the wagons would go to the nearest city or town to lay in the Christmas supplies. Every Negro man had to have a complete outfit, from hat to shoes; every Negro woman had to have the same from head handkerchief to shoes; each Negro child every article of clothing needed.; and warm shawls, and soft shoes, or some special gifts had to be bought for the old Negroes too feeble to work.

How happy all were, white and black, as the cry of “Christmas Gif” rang from one end to the other of the plantation, beginning early in the morning at the Big House and reaching every Negro cabin – Christmas can never be the same again.”

Obama May Be Linked to Jihad Child Massacre in Pakistan

For months I have railed against Obama’s release of the very worst Islamic terrorists (including many senior commanders) from Gitmo. Obama traded a deserter, a US soldier who went AWOL to join the jihad, for five senior Taliban commanders.

So it comes as little surprise that it may very well be one of Obama’s pardons that led to today’s savage slaughter of over 140 children by the Taliban at a school in Pakistan. Correspondents say that the repatriation of a senior Taliban figure is “extremely unusual.” Latif Mehsud was second-in-command to the former Pakistan Taliban chief, Hakimullah Mehsud, who was killed in a US drone strike last year. The same group that attacked the school today.

NC: Teen Kills Home Invader That Targeted His Grandmother

A 14-year-old North Carolina boy shot and killed one of two drug-craving home invaders who were attempting to break into his grandparents’ home to steal her prescription drugs.

A teen is dead and his brother is charged after breaking into a home in southeast Mecklenburg County near Mint Hill on Tuesday, according to police.

The incident happened at a home in the 8600 block of Rolling Fields Road, off of Whispering Falls Ave. near Fairview Rd.

Police say they found and arrested 22-year-old Carlos Delcid on Tuesday night. His brother, 18-year-old Isai Robert Delcid, was shot by the resident’s grandson, according to police.

Gross exchanged for Cuban spies whose activities led to the death of an American

http://www.miamiherald.com/news/nation-world/world/americas/cuba/yortyy/picture4554673/alternates/FREE_960/Cuba%20protest_Versailles.jpg
Protesters at Versailles Restaurant on Calle Ocho in Miami decry the exchange of convicted Cuban spies for Alan Gross.

Cuba’s release of American hostage Alan Gross is to be welcome. Gross has vegetated in a Cuban jail for five years for the crime of bringing computers to Jews on the island.

But exchanging three hardened Cuban spies for him establishes a wrong moral and legal equivalency. Worse, extending recognition to Cuba’s dictatorial regime harms U.S. national interests and fails to advance freedom in Cuba.

The New Ruger Gunsite Scout Rifle Composite Models

 RugerSyntheticScoutFeatured

There I was, lying on the ground, snugged up into the sling and looking through the 2.5 power scope as the target came into view at exactly 200 yards. As I pressed gently on the trigger the rifle bucked and I heard the bullet impact the target as I ran the bolt to chamber another round, fired again, then yet again. In less than 10 seconds three bullets had smacked into the steel target, printing a 2½ inch group. Okay, I guess this little rifle shoots.

It’s Never About Islam -Shootings, Beheadings, Vehicular Homicides, Bombs, Knives, Axes & Free-Flowing Blood Of Innocents; But It Has Nothing To Do With Islam

Via Billy

Call me Islamophobic: Something fishy about a religion whose adherents are so insistent that their religion stands for peace, that they’re prepared to kill you if you question it?

Don’t you just love it when our leaders maintain that Islamist extremism has nothing to do with Islam and the terrorist act du jour is just a deranged ‘lone wolf’ acting on his own? We see this on an almost weekly basis, as these so-called lone wolf killers target soldiers, cops, housewives and coffee shop patrons, indiscriminately slaughtering in the most savage and heinous ways possible.

I’m beginning to wonder whether our leaders are logically challenged or if something more sinister is at play. It’s not like these guys are flying in under the radar. Most are well known to the authorities and have been quite up-front about their proclivities. Yet, few are stopped before they indiscriminately kill innocents.

Armed citizen is solution to attacks – terror and otherwise

“Ideas are more powerful than guns. We would not let our political opponents have guns.  Why should we let them have ideas?”
Joe Stalin (so eloquently articulating the “Youmaynot Philosophy!”)

Australia this time!

Most of this day, I’ve listened to hand-wringing commentators on many networks, including Fox News, agonizing about how to prevent lethal attacks on citizens in Western countries by Islamic terrorists.

“Lone Wolf” is the “term du jour,” but the next attack may be more organized, along the Mumbai Massacre model, and we’ll be back to talking about that convention.

No corespondent was able to offer any concrete solution, save outright banning of Islamics from our shores!

We have observed over the past few decades that neither Jewish Zionists, nor Christian Crusaders, nor Norwegian folk-dancers for that matter, have presented a terrorist problem.  The problem is always Islamics.   Islamics are terrorists, and have been for the past 1500 years!

We can, immersed in PC, dance around that fact, ad-nauseam, but it is something we all plainly see.
The only legitimate answer to these unprovoked and mostly unpredictable terrorist attacks (“lone-wolf” or otherwise) on innocent citizens in Western countries, is privately-armed, private citizens!  Of course, that is the only solution, the mere mention of which, is absolutely banned from the lips of  all media commentators and “officials” alike.  It is prohibited from even  being acknowledged, much less publically discussed, in any fair and enlightened  forum!
