Swiss and Americans

Parade state needed - how many coming to Tribute08..? [Gundersen]
Kiwis in Vietnam

Like the Swiss, Americans will never be quietly herded en masse onto prison buses and cattle trucks.** Not by a foreign invader, and not by a home-grown socialist tyranny bent on achieving a final solution to the bitter clinger problem.

Millions of Americans will live free, or die with AR-15s, Remington 700s and other capable weapons in their hands. This is a subject that would-be American tyrants should study very carefully, even as I am sure that foreign tyrants are studying the low-hanging and juicy Kiwi fruit, made especially tempting due to its lack of protective thorns.

New Zealand is frequently mentioned as an emigration destination by American freedomistas* fearful of being trapped between our burgeoning federal police state, and the intertwining forces of social disintegration. Locations from the Bahamas to Patagonia are named, but I hear New Zealand in everybody’s top three. And in the present era, New Zealand does indeed have many desirable qualities. But what will keep New Zealand both safe and free when global conditions turn Macro Mad Max, or World War Three breaks out? Certainly not its own military forces, which independent of outside help, could not repel an invasion from Liechtenstein.

Unwatched battlefields
Re-enactors of the 5th North Carolina man the Croatan line near Catfish Lake Road.

Saturday was the 153rd anniversary of the Battle of New Bern, when Confederate soldiers and militia, some poorly trained and armed with little more than squirrel guns and shotguns, were overwhelmed by larger Union forces just a couple of miles outside the city. New Bern fell to Union Maj. Gen. Ambrose Burnside and his force of soldiers and gunboats, and for the remainder of the Civil War, New Bern was a Yankee-occupied town.

The New Bern Battlefield Park by the Taberna community has preserved the west wing of that battlefield, a series of well-preserved entrenchments defended by the 26th North Carolina Regiment on that bloody day. A number of activities are scheduled to take place there in commemoration of the fight.

But the park is only a small fraction of important Civil War military sites in Craven County.

“Craven County has more trenches and blockhouses than any other county in the state,” according to Tim Norman, a James City resident who has been carefully studying them. That’s because, to defend their hard-won stronghold, Union forces built numerous entrenchments, blockhouses and forts around the city. As the base of operations, numerous raids were also conducted from the city, especially in the directions of Kinston, Goldsboro and Little Washington.

The Races: Amicable Separation?

The Symptoms Worsen

Partial index, Knockout Game a Lie? To cure a disease, begin by admitting that you have it.
Ah, the joys of escalation. In Ferguson blacks are shooting policemen as others cheer .It does a curmudgeon’s soul good: Everything gets worse, the collapse continues, and unreasoning stupidity goes thundering into the future.

We will hear I suppose that it wasn’t racial, that teens did it, that discrimination  caused it, white privilege, racism, institutional racism, slavery, colonialism, bigots, Southerners, rednecks—everything but the hatred of blacks for whites.

And thus we will avoid the unavoidable, that racial relations are a disaster, will remain a disaster, will get worse, are getting worse, and will lead to some awful denouement no matter how much we lie, preen, vituperate, chatter like Barbary apes, or admire ourselves.

It isn’t working. There is no sign that it ever will. What now?

Vietnam: Cuban Accountability

Via Carl

Whatever one thinks of President Barack Obama’s overtures to Cuba and the accompanying prisoner exchange, an important consideration in need of immediate attention is an accounting of our servicemen captured in the Vietnam War and imprisoned in Cuban-operated POW camps. Of utmost importance is an accounting of the 17 American airmen captured in North Vietnam and then taken to Cuba for medical experiments in torture techniques.

Most Americans are unaware that Cuba was deeply involved in the Vietnam War. In fact they had an engineering battalion called the “Girón Brigade,” that was maintaining Route Nine, a major enemy supply line into South Vietnam. Their facilities included a POW camp and field hospital very near the DMZ, just inside North Vietnam. Meanwhile Cuban interrogators worked in Hanoi at a prison known as the Zoo. We know of these operations and some of what happened to our servicemen after so managed to survive and be repatriated in the winter of 1973, during Operation Homecoming.

Black Lives Matter program

A Virginia police officer and his wife said they are disturbed and angry about the “anti-police propaganda” featured in a Black History Month program put on by one high school.

The Orange County High School event was titled “Black Lives Matter” and featured readings including, “Voices: The Exhausting Task of Being Black in America” and ”They Don’t Really Care About Us.”

The event, originally slated for February but just held Thursday, featured performances and presentations by students from schools across the Orange County school district.

Student ushers wore black T-shirts emblazoned with the phrase “I can’t breathe,” words uttered by Eric Garner, the unarmed New York man who died after being placed in a chokehold by a police officer.

New study determines there are too many studies

It took three researchers from the Netherlands to determine that the Eiffel Tower appears smaller when you lean to the left.
A new study shows that there are too damn many new studies. And it's not just a funny headline: There are real-world implications.

The study, which surely must be aware of its own irony, found that researchers are experiencing "attention decay" because of the glut of academic papers. Just like we're overwhelmed by the bounty of the internet, researchers are forgetting important studies because they're swimming in nonessential ones.

Al Sharpton’s Tax Records Destroyed by Fire… Twice

Al Sharpton

Al Sharpton’s tax problems are well known. It’s a good thing he isn’t a member of the Tea Party, otherwise he might be in real trouble with the IRS. Luckily for the good reverend, he’s a liberal progressive and therefore subject to a different set of rules.

What you may not have heard, is that some of Al Sharpton’s financial records have unfortunately been destroyed by not one but two completely unsuspicious fires.

Jillian Kay Melchior of National Review has written a very interesting report on the subject. Hat tip to the great Jazz Shaw of Hot Air:

Quote of the Day: Rule of Law edition

Via David

http://cdn.iwastesomuchtime.com/72420132248180.jpg

From the inestimable Kevin Williamson:
When the law does not apply to the lawmakers and law-enforcers, you are not being governed: You are being ruled. And we are ruled by criminals. If you treat IRS rules the way the IRS treats IRS rules, you go to prison; if you treat federal law the way the secretary of state does, you go to prison. If you treat immigration controls the way our immigration authorities do, you go to prison. If you’re as careless in your handling of firearms as the ATF is, you go to prison. You cook your business’s books the way the federal government cooks its books, you go to prison.
If you believe that any of those who you’ve watched arrogantly refuse to follow the law are going to actually be prosecuted and pay the same penalty you would, you’ve not been paying close attention.  When’s the last time you saw any politician or bureaucrat with any real power frog marched off to jail? When is the last time you actually saw one held accountable for their actions?

All of Williamson’s statements are true when applied to you and I.  I’ve always used the example of a numbers racket.  You run a numbers racket and you go to jail.  The government runs one and they call it “the lottery” – and, of course, it’s proceeds are “for the children” – so its ok if they do it.

 THE FEDERALIST NO 57

by James Madison

I will add, as a fifth circumstance in the situation of the House of Representatives, restraining them from oppressive measures, that they can make no law which will not have its full operation on themselves and their friends, as well as on the great mass of the society. This has always been deemed one of the strongest bonds by which human policy can connect the rulers and the people together. It creates between them that communion of interests and sympathy of sentiments, of which few governments have furnished examples; but without which every government degenerates into tyranny. If it be asked, what is to restrain the House of Representatives from making legal discriminations in favor of themselves and a particular class of the society? I answer: the genius of the whole system; the nature of just and constitutional laws; and above all, the vigilant and manly spirit which actuates the people of America- a spirit which nourishes freedom, and in return is nourished by it.

If this spirit shall ever be so far debased as to tolerate a law not obligatory on the legislature, as well as on the people, the people will be prepared to tolerate any thing but liberty.

First Trades after Collapse

 trade post collapse

The items for trade during my SHTF very often changed value, and some of them became unavailable for some period of time, just to suddenly show up again much more expensive.

Yes, situation in the city dictated that, but also people, the black market lords made this happen. The whole situation was always changing where and if you can find what you were looking for.

Some of the items that were circulating in the city were completely new to everyone, one of the reasons was that all sorts of stuff from humanitarian aid was coming to the city through different channels and from all different parts of the world.

Some of those things became popular fast, others remained completely strange for us, but all had some kind of value.

Secession And The Power of the Sword 2015

(Editor’s Note: I wrote this article in February 2010 for the first time. It was WAY ahead of its time then. But we are now five years down the road toward the collapse of the Washington power structure and rogue government. So this updated article is a bit of new perspective along with some of the original article.)

Few people, even patriots…truly understand how close America is to an economic collapse. And when it comes…not IF it comes…every person will be affected in some way. A tiny minority will be prepared, and everyone else will suffer…many will die and die ugly.

I see my friends and fellow travelers in the Liberty movements and the Secession movements vigorously promoting State Secession. But there seems to be an elephant in the room at every gathering…an elephant that few are willing to acknowledge or talk about.

The elephant in the room is military preparedness for a state on the brink of secession, or a newly seceded state/nation.

CA ‘Bathroom Brigade’ Attacks Single-Sex Bathrooms

The University of California at Berkeley is coping with a new “Bathroom Brigade” that is encouraging men and women to use each other’s bathrooms, according to The Daily Californian.

Brigade members have been posting signs at the entrances to various campus bathrooms, covering up the Men and Women markers with declarations that the bathrooms are open to “All Genders.” The signs are appear intended to resemble an official announcement from the university, though a close reading reveals they are anything but. In full, they read:
