Appeals court rejects $1.8M award to Jesse Ventura in 'American Sniper' case

Via Billy

A federal appeals court on Monday threw out $1.8 million in damages awarded to former Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura, who said he was defamed by the late author Chris Kyle in the bestselling book "American Sniper."

The 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals also sent a portion of the case -- Ventura's defamation claim -- back to the district court for a new trial, saying Ventura's attorneys made improper remarks and the trial court "clearly abused its discretion in denying a new trial."

Messages left with Ventura, his publicist and his attorney were not immediately returned Monday. An attorney for Kyle's estate had no comment and referred questions to publisher HarperCollins, which said it was reviewing the opinion and had no comment at this time.

  1. Awwww, puppy piddles. Poor Jesse got butt hurt. There is a moral to this story here for the rest of use. Do not let your ego, get in the way of common sense. Learn when to back off and let a matter go. Jesse brought a lot of negative press upon himself. The best thing Jesse could have done was to have said nothing. Or, when asked about the incident described in "American Sniper", would have been to say; "I think, Chris got it wrong. That is not how I remember it. He must have confused me with someone else". And then let it go. Most of us would have just blown it off, as difference of opinion and memory. But no, Jesse just had to make an issue of it. It does not matter if he, Jesse was right or wrong. Jesse made himself look like a money hungry douchebag. Money can not buy you respect. Jesse lost that with me. Trashing a dead hero, is never a smart move, nor is going after another guys wife, because you wanted revenge.
