The Navy is set to name a ship after the gay rights icon and San Francisco politician Harvey Milk, according to a Congressional notification obtained by USNI News.

The July 14, 2016 notification, signed by Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus, indicated he intended to name a planned Military Sealift Command fleet oiler USNS Harvey Milk (T-AO-206). The ship would be the second of the John Lewis-class oilers being built by General Dynamics NASSCO in San Diego, Calif.

The Secretary of the Navy’s office is deferring releasing additional information until the naming announcement, a Navy official told USNI News on Thursday.

  4. Appalling pic, appalling. Was he really a semen? I know he
was an agitator which is how he met his demise.
At a time, a good time, I might add, when real men were too honorable and too dignified — too White — to try to be Politically Correct.

  5. There was a time that the naming of naval ships followed a strict protocol. Capital ships (BB), those with the most destructive power were named for States. This logic was carried over the to ballistic missile subs (SSBN). Carriers were named for either battles or other ships. Cruisers were named for cities. Destroyers could be named for individuals, but only those who had died while in service.

It was only noncombatant ships that could be named for civilians. This protocol was first deviated from under JFK and then completely abandoned under LBJ. Just another brick being torn out of military and American culture.

  7. This country, and particularly aspects of our nation's military, are in a sorry and pathetic state of affairs. What would the past (and I am sure we have some in the present) naval heroes of the United States think about the transforming of navy ships into "floating whorehouses" with women and men serving on the same vessels? More disturbing, is what would these valiant and brave men think of the namesake of an radical Sodomite being placed upon a ship in the service of this once great nation?
