“Contextualizing” American History

 http://orig11.deviantart.net/7b86/f/2014/222/2/1/abraham_lincoln_the_tyrant_by_benjamindelgadoiii-d7ul2na.jpg

Few, if any, currently prominent historians voice unqualified objection to the destruction of Confederate monuments. The most tolerant among them instead suggest that the memorials should remain, but with new explanatory inscriptions offering “context”—a code word that simplifies to: South=Bad, North=Good.

Consider, for example, the contextual marker that might be added to Liberty Hall, former home of Confederate Vice President Alexander Stephens. No doubt it would emphasize the racist remarks in his Cornerstone Speech. But I’d wager $100 against a good Cuban cigar that it would ignore his address to the Georgia legislature after the war when he urged the body to adopt laws to protect African-Americans “so that they may stand equal before the law” partly because “we owe [them] a debt of gratitude…”

More pertinently, adding additional perspective to Rebel memorials begs the question of whether the policy should also apply to Yankee monuments. Consider the Lincoln Memorial. A couple of months before he announced the preliminary Emancipation Proclamation on September 22, 1862 Lincoln met at the White House with African-American leaders and urged that blacks leave the country. He arranged congressional funding for their emigration.

There never was a “hole in the ozone”: That was “a practice run for global warming”

Via Bill

The ozone issue was an early misuse of science for a political agenda. It was a practice run for global warming with several of the same people involved.

Attempts to ratify the Kyoto Protocol included claims that the Montreal Protocol, designed to save the ozone layer, was a success. It wasn’t, because there was no problem in the first place.

Chlorofluorocarbons then, like CO2 today, were never a problem.

Environmentalists used a natural change of ozone and CO2 to blame human activity. With ozone, the "urgent problem" was a slight decline in atmospheric levels over Antarctica; with CO2, a slight increase at Mauna Loa.

Both times, they then found and funded scientists to produce the "scientific" evidence.

I explained the problem to the Canadian Parliamentary Committee Hearing on Ozone. I didn’t want to attend, but it was a legal order. It was the fiasco I expected.

“Civil Rights” Morphing Into Anti-White Discrimination And Transgender Rights–Part One

Via Billy

Not quite everyone sees the “Civil Rights” movement as the noble crusade to give blacks equal rights as the “news media” has been trying to tell us for decades now. There was and is a lot more involved here than “equal rights” but you are not supposed to realize that. There are cultural differences between the races that never get discussed.

In fact, there was one black man, Albert Burton, who wrote a book about the developing “culture conflict” between whites and blacks. His book, when it was published (1964) bore the rather startling title Whole Nigger or None.  Referring to Burton’s book, the author of The Bondage of the Free, Kent Steffgen, said: “It is Burton’s opinion that gross errors about the characteristics of Negro life have led the North astray from any possible hope of an understanding. As a Negro he holds that the real villain of the ‘rights’ movement is the Northern humanitarian, who has actually brought on the problem by creating a market for it through his almost total ignorance of the colored makeup.

To Burton, the Negro is the victim, not the beneficiary, of northern altruism.  He has been bought off for the all-important Negro bloc vote,  bribed into becoming a slum dweller, then blamed for being there…While the Negro desires many of the same things as other people, he sees himself as a consumer, not a producer, and does not believe he should have to work for things the white man thinks he ought to have…Minus all the agitation, the Negro would be content to sit back and take life easy, enjoying the prolonged, idle  hours of welfarism without a care…For this he will go to the polls and vote for the welfare state until eternity.” Now as you all read this, just remember that it was a black man that wrote it, not me or some other white guy. This was his opinion of his own race, or at least most of them. He did differentiate between the folks he described here and the black businessmen who were hustling and trying to make a go of it.

Watching Richmond With a Cold, Profiteering Eye

 https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/13/Jubilee-jim-fisk.jpg

“Diamond Jim” Fisk, was a Vermonter who by 1864 had made a fortune through shrewd dealing with army contracts and smuggling cotton northward through Union lines. Allied with the notorious New York political boss Boss Tweed, his buying of judges and bribery of legislatures was the stuff of legend.

Watching Richmond With a Cold, Profiteering Eye

[Losing a large sum in stocks, Fisk] saw an opportunity to recoup his losses by capitalizing in a similar way on [Northern] victory. Confederate bonds had fallen on the London exchange with Southern losses but were still selling at some eighty cents on the dollar. Grant now had Richmond in a vise. Victory seemed certain, and when the Confederacy met defeat her bonds would plummet in value.

Not yet was there an Atlantic cable, so it would take more than a week for news of the war’s end to reach England by fast steamship.  If anyone could get to London before the news, he could sell Confederate bonds short like mad at eighty cents on the dollar and reap a harvest when they sank. Fisk resolved to get there first.

Forming a pool with three capitalists, he furnished the scheme while they supplied the money. Chartering a fast steamer, he sent it to Halifax, the nearest North American port to England with orders to keep up steam for instant departure. Aboard the ship was his agent, a knowing New York broker named Hargreaves, who had instructions to speed to England when given the signal.

One obstacle was the telegraph, which then fell fifty miles short of reaching Halifax. Fisk had the last fifty miles strung at his colleagues’ expense, then watched Richmond with a cold, profiteering eye.

On the historic day when Lee surrendered, the word sped over the wires to Hargreaves: “Go!”  Hargreaves went.

He reached Liverpool in six days and a half — two days ahead of the arrival of the first ship from New York with the news. Speeding to London, he kept mum about defeat and dutifully sold Confederate bonds short to all buyers.

Alas! — one of Fisk’s partners, a conservative man, had privately telegraphed Hargreaves not to sell more than five millions in bonds, so he limited his sales to that amount. When the news of the surrender reached London, the bonds tumbled to $22.  Hargreaves therefore collected the difference between $22 and $80, making a handsome profit for his employers but missing the downright killing that would have been possible.”

The rise of militias: Patriot candidates are now getting elected in Oregon

Oregon militia standoff

Joseph Rice’s manner is a long way from militia stereotypes. The Patriot Movement leader does not present as a crazed gun nut, nor as a blowhard white supremacist. He’s genial, folksy, and matter-of-fact in laying out his views. But talk to him for long enough, and time and again the Patriot Movement leader returns to what really drives him: land.

Rice is running for Josephine county commissioner in south-west Oregon, and believes that the federal government’s current role in land management is illegitimate and even tyrannical.

Harvard Prof Urges Liberals to Treat Evangelical Christians Like Nazis

Via John "This is where we are."

Mark Tushnet, Carmack Waterhouse Professor of Constitutional Law at Georgetown University, speaks during a panel discussion September 1, 2005 in Washington, DC.

A Harvard Law professor is telling his fellow liberals that the culture wars are over and the victorious Left should treat conservative Christians the way the allies treated Germany and Japan after World War II, offering no quarter or clemency.

In an online post, the 70-year-old professor Mark Tushnet (pictured), a surviving member of the old guard of 1960s liberal elites, advises his like-minded minions to unabashedly take up “aggressively liberal positions,” because they will no longer meet resistance, especially after the death of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia.

Since “they lost, we won,” Tushnet confidently announces, it is time to press the liberal advantage and abandon any defensive positions.

In his post, titled “Abandoning Defensive Crouch Liberal Constitutionalism,” Tushnet urges more radicalism, not less, insisting that now is the time to overturn “key cases” that have hindered the liberal cause.

Presumed Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has promised to keep America safe. Now, he appears to have made a deal with “America’s Mayor” to help do the job.

The New York Daily News reported that a deal has been struck between Trump and former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani for Giuliani to head the Department of Homeland Security if Trump were to be elected.

“A secret deal has been struck by Donald Trump, and Rudy Giuliani would be head of Homeland Security,” an unnamed GOP insider told the Daily News.

Black Lives Matter Protesters “Mowed Over” After Blocking Interstate Traffic

“It isn’t a hit and run if you are in fear for your life.  Call the police after you break past the terrorist blockade.

Recently, Black Lives Matter protesters have been blocking traffic to Donald Trump events in an attempt to restrict free speech and right to assemble.

Many drivers have had enough, and are now plowing over the traffic blocking protesters.

Law officials have said that running them over is perfectly legal as long as you dial 9-1-1 and report the incident immediately.  After you do so, you must also ensure you do not “speed” away.  It is important that you do not commit a felony “hit and run”.  [Pro-Tip:  Contact a lawyer prior to running over anyone blocking the road for professional legal advice.]

On 29 April 2016, about 90 Italian parliamentarians and they are as well members in the EU parliament, signed a petition addressed to the EU to consider Egypt “unsafe country”. The petition mentioned that Egypt was not safe for the Italian researcher Giulio Regeni and not safe for the Egyptian people either.

The petition stated that Egypt doesn’t show any cooperation in the murder case of Giulio Regeni. (Giulio Regeni an Italian researcher disappeared in Cairo on 25/1/2016 and his body appeared on 3/2/2016).

Italy the land of Mafia, gangs war, kidnapping, disappearance of more than 5000 migrant children in 2015, theft and killing crimes, is talking about the ”unsafe countries”!
