James Cameron Ducks Climate Change Debate

NEWSMAX.COM
============

“Avatar” and “Titanic” director James Cameron challenged three noted global warming skeptics to a debate at an energy conference — then backed out of the debate at the last minute.

In March, climate change crusader Cameron said he was eager to debate the issue and show skeptics they are wrong.

“I want to call those deniers out into the street at high noon and shoot it out with those boneheads,” he said in an interview.

A few weeks ago his representatives contacted three well-known skeptics — Marc Morano, executive director of the Climate Depot website; Ann McElhinney, who co-wrote and directed “Not Evil Just Wrong,” a documentary critical of global warming crusaders; and conservative blogger Andrew Breitbart.

A debate was arranged to take place in Aspen, Colo., during the Aug. 19-22 American Renewable Energy Day (AREDAY) summit. The website for the gathering described the exchange as “AREDAY Climate Change Debate: Reality or Fiction?”

The plan was for Cameron and two scientists to confront the three skeptics in a 90-minute debate that would be streamed live on the Internet and perhaps attract media coverage, Climate Depot reported.

“We are delighted to have Fox News, Newsmax, The Washington Times and anyone else you’d like. The more the better,” one Cameron organizer said in an e-mail.

According to an article written by McElhinney, which appeared on the Climate Depot site, Cameron’s side wanted to change their team. Then they wanted to change the format to more of a “round table” than a debate. The skeptics agreed to both requests.

“Then they wanted to ban our cameras from the debate. We could have access to their footage,” McElhinney writes. “We agreed.

“Then finally, James Cameron decided to ban the media from the shootout. No media would be allowed and there would be no streaming on the Internet. No one would be allowed to record it in any way. We agreed to all that.

“Then, just one day before the debate, his representative sent an e-mail that Mr. ‘Shoot It Out’ Cameron no longer wanted to take part. The debate was cancelled.”

Cameron’s Aug. 21 cancellation came so late that Morano — former spokesman for Republican Sen. James Inhofe of Oklahoma — was already on a plane flying from Washington, D.C., to Aspen to attend, Climate Depot disclosed.

McElhinney wrote: “I was looking forward to debating with the filmmaker. I was looking forward to finding out where we agreed and disagreed and finding a way forward.

“But that is not going to happen because somewhere along the way James Cameron, a great filmmaker, has moved from King of the World to being King of the Hypocrites.”

Chip Comins, founder and executive producer of the Aspen event, claimed that the details of the debate had never been confirmed, according to Environment & Energy News.

Comins also said: “Morano is not at James Cameron’s level to debate, and that’s why that didn’t happen. Cameron should be debating someone who is similar to his stature in our society.”

But Morano said Cameron “let his friends in the environmental community spook him out of this debate. When he was warned that he was probably going to lose and lose badly, he ran like a scared mouse.”

Footnote: On the day the debate was supposed to take place, Cameron told an audience this about global warming skeptics: “I think they’re swine.”

Lincoln's gambit worked and the Confederacy took the bait to it's peoples' eternal sorrow. Imagine the Federal rout of the First Battle of Bull Run (SIC S/B Manassas. Foreign Aid

Dear Mr. Townsend:

Thank you for contacting me regarding your opposition to foreign aid. I value hearing from you on this matter and appreciate the opportunity to respond.

You will be pleased to know that I am opposed to spending taxpayer dollars on aid to foreign countries. Our taxes should be spent on maintaining and improving our domestic issues and programs. For many years our government operated beyond our means while accumulating a $5,369.7 billion federal debt and a $290,402 million budget deficit. In this time of economic strife, I believe that lending more foreign aid would be detrimental to our country's already fragile financial state. Further, we need to take care of our own people before we continue to hand out more borrowed money to other countries.

I will keep your thoughts in mind when legislation concerning foreign aid is brought to the House floor. Rest assured that I do not support foreign aid and will continue to vote "no" on foreign appropriation legislation as I have consistently done in the past.

Again, thank you for taking the time to write on this important issue. If I may be of further assistance, please let me know.

Sincerely,

Walter B. Jones

Parental Rights SR519

Dear Supporter of Parental Rights,
Yesterday was a huge day for the parental rights movement. First, a story run on CBS.com Tuesday night gained attention throughout the day – an article about our growing success with Senate Resolution 519 which opposes ratification of the UN’s Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). Additionally, the San Francisco-based magazine Mother Jones posted an article attacking our work for parental rights.
As a result, ParentalRights.org president Michael Farris was invited to be on the Alan Colmes radio show tonight at 11:06 Eastern (8:06 Pacific). Mr. Colmes is a liberal commentator, formerly of the Hannity and Colmes dialog show. “This is a real indication that our grassroots efforts are starting to gain critical mass,” Farris says. “When mainstream media and ultra-liberal outlets like Mother Jones start paying attention to us, we are on the path to victory. Besides that, I love it when the radicals from Mother Jones call me a ‘mastermind’.”
If you can, listen to Mr. Colmes’ show tonight or check it out on his website in the next day or two: www.Alan.com. For many of you, he is not your usual fare – but please check out his interview with Mike. If Colmes gets good ratings with this issue, it may lead to more such interviews in other major media outlets.

Second, yesterday was a huge day because our email to you did extremely well – and it continues to produce dividends. Its message made it clear that ParentalRights.org exists to benefit all parents, including parents of public school students. Every parent has the right to direct the upbringing of their child.
You passed the message along, and it is gaining traction wherever it is read. If you have not passed it on yet, please pull out that email and do so. Or just email all your friends and ask them to check out one vital link: http://parentalrightsus.org/palmdale. (That is a copy of that email, available online.)

I am so excited by what is happening right now, and I hope through this email you now are, too. Let’s work together to keep this momentum going!

Sincerely,
Michael Ramey

Dear Taxpayer,

For only the second time in my adult life, I am not ashamed of my country. I want to thank the hard-working American people for paying $242,000,000 for my vacation in Spain. My daughter Sasha, several long-time family friends, my personal staff and various guests had a wonderful time. Honestly, you just haven't lived until you have stayed in a $2,500 per night suite at a 5-Star luxury hotel. Thank you also for the use of Air Force 2 and the 70 Secret Service personnel who tagged along to be sure we were safe and cared for us like royalty at all times.

Air Force 2 only used 47,500 gallons of jet fuel for this trip and carbon emissions were a mere 1,031 tons of CO 2. These are only rough estimates, but they are close. That’s quite a carbon footprint, as my good friend Al Gore would say, so we must ask the American citizens to drive smaller, more fuel efficient cars and drive less too, so we can lessen our combined carbon footprint.

I know times are hard, and millions of you are struggling to put food on the table and trying to make ends meet. I do appreciate your sacrifice and do hope you find work soon. I was really exhausted after Barack took our family on a luxury vacation in Maine a few weeks ago, so I just had to get away for a few days.

Cordially,
Michelle Obama

The Tyrant Lincoln

"The Yankees needed to find a way to try and justify their invasion of the South to themselves. They did that by manufacturing a non-existent consolidated nation that had to be kept intact. Lincoln and Seward were the authors of this hoax although they had plenty of help earlier from Daniel Webster and Henry Clay. The people, less than 1/3 (39%%. BT) of whom had voted for Lincoln, chose him to be their champion; a demigod to lead them down the righteous path. But even that was not enough. They also had to create him as the enemy of slavery and the emancipator of men, who he never was.

ANYONE who even reads the slightest bit of history on the matter will understand that at best Lincoln was indifferent to the plight of the slaves and in actuality, supported deporting them all. He repeatedly made statements stating that he thought blacks were inferior to white men and that they should not be afforded the rights of white men.

The modern historical Lincoln is a total fabrication. That man never existed. He in fact was a crude, poorly educated, big-business lawyer who won the Presidency through a fluke splitting of the Democratic party. He is directly and personally responsible for the invasion of the South and the deaths of over 600,000 men and 50,000 civilians. Under his direct orders, war was deliberately waged against civilians and private property. If he lived today, he would be tried and hung by an international war crimes tribunal. He violated the constitution more than any other president before or since. Enshrining his effigy in a marble temple in Washington followed by hundreds of academics busily rewriting history for 150 years does not change the fundamental truths about this greatest of depots, under which Americans have suffered, or relieve the guilt of those who fought his unholy war.

In the end, he received his just due, although I wish he had died after laying in some field half the night with his guts blown out like so many of the men he murdered."

Our September Conference will be highlighted by a panel-facilitated discussion with LS REBELLION! Blogger Mike Tuggle and others, and it will focus on practical NC LS member involvement (and realistic expectations) in local political initiatives---plus best-practices for inserting convincing traditional conservative arguments into local debates. All towns across North Carolina have their Tea Party and assorted conservative groups, and we encourage members to get involved locally to present ideas which frame the debate in clear, simple and true Constitutional terms. Remember, all politics is local.

From stressing the importance of State sovereignty and the intent of the Tenth Amendment, to watering the seeds of self-determination for North Carolinians in the face of a despotic nationalist regime, we must first be active locally and seize opportunities to build consensus for liberty.

Join us for an inspiring and interactive day of dialogue, learning and re-energizing ourselves.

N.C. Students Pay For Abortion Coverage They Don’t Want

NEWSMAX.COM
Students in the University of North Carolina system will now be required to buy a campus health insurance plan that includes abortion coverage if they don’t have a private insurance plan.

Administrators have agreed to allow students on the 16 campuses of UNC to opt out of the abortion coverage of the campus plan if they choose to — but students who do opt out will pay the same premiums as students who do not.

Under the plan, a $500 benefit and 80 percent Preferred Provider Organization coverage is available for “Elective Abortion.” The healthcare coverage costs $744 a year, or $375 a semester, and the premium will automatically appear on a tuition bill unless the student submits proof of private coverage.

Students for Life of America, a pro-life organization with chapters at campuses around the country, has expressed concern that students without private coverage who oppose abortion on moral grounds must nevertheless pay into an insurance pool that subsidizes abortion coverage.

Sarah Hardin, President of North Carolina State University’s Students for Life group, said, “As a pro-life student at N.C. State, I am dismayed that my classmates will not only be forced to purchase health insurance, but will also be forced to pay into a pool that will go to aborting the children of other North Carolina students.”

The university’s policy raises another issue, Students for Life notes on its website: “Federal grant money is directed to universities from taxpayers through the Federal Student Aid Program. Student eligibility for federal grants is determined by the difference in the student’s ability to pay and the total ‘cost of attendance’ for the school.

“As stated by the UNC system, the cost of their abortion healthcare plan … is added to the student’s ‘cost of attendance’ calculation. This in turn, increases the student’s need for federal funds. Because of this increase in need, additional federal funds could be directed to the student to help cover this increase in cost.

“This is using federal taxpayer money for abortion healthcare.”

Kristan Hawkins, Executive Director of Students for Life of America, stated: “The fact that North Carolina students are going to be forced to pay for elective abortions is appalling. We demand that the North Carolina Board of Governors reverse their policy and remove the abortion mandate immediately. Paying for abortions should not be a pre-requisite to learning.”

Historian reviews NC's 'Civil War' death count

'North Carolina's claim that it lost the most men during the Civil War [sic] is getting a recount from a state historian who doubts the accuracy of the accepted, 144-year-old estimate.

"The time has come to get it right," said Josh Howard, a research historian with the Office of Archives and History in Raleigh. "Nobody has gone through man by man looking for the deaths."

Howard is reviewing the military records of every Tar Heel who served in the 1861-65 conflict, as the state prepares to mark its sesquicentennial.'

While I welcome any further study of the War, I question the assumption Mr Howard makes about the generally accepted estimate. He seems to have already reached a conclusion before the study is done.

Obamacare Class Action

8/3/10

Two weeks ago I filed an amended complaint adding 25,444 of you as co-plaintiffs in our lawsuit against Obamacare. The complaint ballooned from 9 pages to 284 pages, simply by adding your names.

I also filed a motion for preliminary injunction. This is a request for a court order prohibiting the Federal government from enforcing any aspect of Obamacare pending the outcome of our lawsuit.

Last week I flew to DC with a few representatives of the health care industry to personally serve Obama, Pelosi, Reid, and the Department of Justice. We left copies of the complaint, motion for injunction, and summons with staffers at the defendant’s offices. It’s not often that a Congressional candidate, a physician, an emergency room nurse, a Tea Party activist, and a reporter crowd into a Congressional office and plop down a 284 page lawsuit with 25,444 named plaintiffs. It was a sight to see, and quite a fun day. When we got to the White House the Secret Service agents refused to let us leave the documents at the gate. Then the White House administrative office two blocks from the White House refused to let us in the door. We’re now mailing the President’s copy of the complaint to the White House. We could have mailed all of the documents, but personally serving them was an important symbol of our frustration with the current leaders of our government. A volunteer has put together all of our amateur video into a documentary. Check it out at - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hC9SZu5SVbw.

Our efforts were rewarded by Fox News with a Friday night interview by former Bush White House Press Secretary Dana Perino on Greta Van Susturen’s show. You can see the interview at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WjaddBoTgI. Since the latest Fox interview, over 2400 new plaintiffs have signed up to join our lawsuit against Obamacare.

The defendants now have 60 days to respond to the complaint, and only 14 days to respond to the motion for preliminary injunction from the time Obama receives his copy. Once the defendants respond to the motion, we will have 7 days to answer any arguments they raise. Then the Federal Court can either rule on the motion or set a hearing. Most likely the court will set a hearing for some time in September or early October. I’ll let you all know as soon as I hear anything from the defendants or the Court. We will have at least a couple weeks notice before the hearing if you would like to make plans to be there. You do not have to attend, I will be representing you. Attendance is completely optional.

Thank you all for your willingness to fight our Federal government’s latest power grab in the form of Obamacare.

Family Fun At Fort Fisher “Living Our Civil War (Sic) History” Aug. 14

News Release

2nd Saturdays Family Fun at Fort Fisher “Living Our Civil War History” Aug. 14

KURE BEACH – Music, crafts and costumed interpreters will illustrate 19th-century living at the Fort Fisher State Historic Site event “Living Our Civil War History” on Aug. 14 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Crafts people and vendors will demonstrate and sell mid-19th-century crafts

This free event is part of “2nd Saturdays,” a statewide summer initiative at State Historic Sites and museums that combines arts, history, culture and fun for all ages. Visitors will be able to visit artists’ booths, tour Fort Fisher with a costumed interpreter, watch a blacksmith in action and see small arms and weapons demonstrations. Author Jack Travis will present a talk on his book “Men of God, Angels of Death: Maj. James Reilly and the fight to save Fort Fisher.”

“We’re planning a summertime experience with a nice blend of entertainment, crafts and hands-on fun,” said Assistant Site Manager Amy Manor Thornton. “Bring a camera and come see just what 19th-century living was all about.”

State Historic Sites and museums of the N.C. Department of Cultural Resources (www.ncculture.com) will have special programs combining heritage and arts on Aug. 14, so pack a picnic and have a great day out. Selections from the 37 venues include coastal woodworking at Historic Edenton, a free evening concert at the State Capitol, or a day with Dr. Stan South, the famous archaeologist, storyteller and author who did original excavation work at Brunswick Town.

Partners with the Department of Cultural Resources in 2nd Saturdays include “Our State” magazine, the Division of Tourism within the N.C. Department of Commerce, and the Tourism Extension Program in N.C. State University’s Parks Recreation and Tourism Management program; with grant support from the Golden LEAF Foundation.

Fort Fisher, the largest earthen fortification in the Confederacy, once protected the port of Wilmington and the vital blockade-running trade on the Cape Fear River. After two massive bombardments, the Fort fell to a Union infantry assault on Jan. 15, 1865, and the port was closed to foreign trade.

Visitors to Fort Fisher can tour the remaining portions of the historic earthworks. A shaded scenic trail winds around a portion of the Fort’s land face and provides excellent views of the Cape Fear River. Exhibits in the visitor center include the fiber-optic battle map of the 2nd Battle for Fort Fisher and artifacts from the shipwreck of the blockade-runner Modern Greece.

Fort Fisher State Historic Site is located at 1610 Fort Fisher Blvd. South, Kure Beach, N.C. 28449. For information on this program or the site, call (910) 458-5538 or visit www.nchistoricsites.org/fisher/.

Fort Fisher State Historic Site is part of the Division of State Historic Sites in the N.C. Department of Cultural Resources, the state agency with the mission to enrich lives and communities, and the vision to harness the state’s cultural resources to build North Carolina’s social, cultural and economic future. Information on Cultural Resources is available 24/7 at www.ncculture.com.

Small arms and artillery demonstrations will be part of the free 2nd Saturdays program on Aug. 14 at Fort Fisher State Historic Site, when fun, heritage and arts will meet. This is the final program in the summer series at Fort Fisher and other State Historic Sites. (Photo courtesy of the N.C. Department of Cultural Resources)
