Ron Paul: Dear Friend Of Liberty

Foundation for Rational Economics and Education

Dear Friend of Liberty:

You would think that with the positive results from the recent election we could be looking forward to a restoration of freedom and prosperity in the coming year.

Despite the election outcome, I have not known a time when the threats to our Liberty and the Founders' vision have been greater than they are today.

The headlong process of "socializing" America continues with the Obamanization of Health Care, the government takeover of auto companies and banks, attempts to confiscate our retirement accounts, and recent federal efforts to totally control our food production system. Add to these outrages an ongoing scheme to enact a National ID Card and attempts to effectively end state Right to Work laws and you have the making for a dangerous assault on our Liberty.

Perhaps even more ominous, the Obama Administration has clearly signaled that the sinister parts of its agenda which have thus far failed to pass Congress will be surreptitiously enacted via Executive Order. Cap and Tax, prohibitions against offshore drilling, new regulation of food and drugs and the continued installation of shadowy, unconstitutional Czars to regulate and control every aspect of our economy and our personal lives, will move forward regardless of what Congress or the American people think!

For Liberty to survive it is imperative that we confront today these new threats in all of their ugly and freedom-killing forms.

In the toughest times times like we are facing right now in the life of our nation freedom fighters have always stepped forward for America—armed with whatever it takes and at whatever sacrifice—to answer the call to defend our Liberty. That's how America was born and how we, as a free and sovereign nation, have survived.

A major economic crisis continues to unfold in our nation. Massive federal debt threatens to destroy our prosperity for decades to come. The destruction of our money through the actions by the Fed continues at an alarming pace. "Quantitative Easing" is just the latest name for the government's evil attempts to steal wealth from unsuspecting citizens via debasement of our fiat paper money system.

New government programs are started daily, and future plans are being made for even more costly government expansion. All are based on the false premise that we're in this mess because free-market capitalism and sound money failed. The obsession is with more spending, bailouts of bad investments, more debt, and further dollar debasement.

Many are saying we need an international answer to our problems with the establishment of a world central bank and a single fiat reserve currency. The ongoing collapse of economies in nations like Greece and Ireland demonstrate the utter folly of this approach. The collapse of economies in Portugal, Spain and other Euro nations may not be far behind as we witness first-hand that collectivism, interventionism, and one-world approaches to managing economic systems absolutely do not work.

Suggestions that America pursue these failed progressive, socialist (make that "communist") models are naive at best, and sinister in far too many instances. Those who want our nation to go down this destructive path do NOT believe in individual Liberty and view our sovereignty and our Constitution as outdated sentimentalism "ill-suited for a modern world."

Call me "naïve and sentimental" but I believe Liberty and the Constitution will NEVER be outmoded. They do NOT need to be replaced by "more enlightened" systems systems proven time and again to be absolute failures which impoverish and enslave any people or nation foolish enough to follow them.

Congress allowed and enabled the Federal Reserve which proceeded to create our monetary problems. When the problems become even more apparent, rather than rein in the power of the Fed, Congress moved to give the Fed even more power.

I could go on but I know that you understand the crises we face and agree with me on what must be done to turn our nation around.

I hear from Americans like you who are up in arms about what is going on in our nation. Messages come into my congressional office morning, noon and night. Taxpayers are outraged by the huge bailouts, the massive expansion of government and the refusal by Congress and the leaders of both parties to follow the Constitution.

Many Americans are frustrated—or even outright angry—about failed government policies that just tighten the government's noose around our necks. The rise of the Tea Party movement, which effectively started during my campaign for President in 2007, was an outgrowth of the popular dissatisfaction with our country's political leadership and its failure to follow the Constitution.

Since the financial crises have become more and more apparent and the attempts by the Fed to solve the problem have become more desperate, my phone has been ringing off the walls with calls from media outlets wanting to interview me and get my opinions about what is going on and how we need to deal with it.

You will recall that during the presidential election the same media scoffed at my suggestions that we were facing economic disaster if we didn't take action to rein in the Fed and limit the size and cost of our overgrown government. The mainstream media (and even some supposed "conservative media" types) laughed at my calls for limited government, for abolishing the Fed and the IRS, for cutting federal spending at home and abroad to balance our budget, and my call for a sound monetary system.

Today, with the crisis at hand, they are not laughing any more. Fox News, for example, which largely spurned me and my ideas during the campaign, regularly invites me to appear and comment on the economy and politics. And other great Freedom advocates like Judge Napolitano and John Stossel have since been hired by FOX. The Neo-Cons are no longer controlling the debate as our voices have increasingly been added in discussions about how to deal with the crisis that confronts us.

It would be easy to sit back and smirk and say "we told you so" when addressing our critics in the media and in political circles, but if we truly love our nation and want to preserve liberty we have to do more we have to be LEADERS in the debate and in the arena of ideas.

The time is ripe for us to be at the forefront of offering workable solutions of calling for a return to limited, constitutional government, the need for honest money and low taxes, and the absolute need to expose and abolish the Federal Reserve.

The task before us is huge. Our challenge is both political and philosophical, but either way the solution must begin by properly educating Americans about why our current out-of-control, misguided political and financial systems have failed, and what must be done to turn things around.

My Foundation for Rational Economics and Education (FREE) has been waging such an educational effort for several decades. We have had a great deal of success publishing newsletters and books and producing radio and TV programs teaching people about the Constitution and free markets and sound money.

FREE has done much to educate patriots like you and to win the battle for the hearts and minds of Americans young and old. To truly have success, we must expand our reach to many, many more.

Given the severity and urgency of the crisis we face, we must do much more in our battle to spread the truth. It is imperative that we redouble and expand the work and scope of FREE's educational effort. Right now, while people are looking for answers and even the media is trying to figure out what in the world is going on, we must fill the leadership void and provide answers and solutions for the problems that face us.

You have been a faithful supporter of the cause of Liberty. You understand the serious nature of the threats that confront us and the dangers posed to our freedom and our very way of life.

It is up to us to step up and lead the pro-freedom movement, not just in Congress, but in every community and at every level of government and in every institution of learning.

Our ability to lead this movement comes from your tax-deductible contributions to FREE. $50 or $100, or even $250 or more if you can afford it, is urgently needed to help fund the effort to turn our government and our nation around now, before it is too late.

Please logon to www.FREE-NEFL.com and make your most generous contribution to help FREE fight for Liberty!

Leadership is sorely lacking in Washington despite the Republicans' recent victory. We have seen before that Republican control of Congress is no guarantee that freedom-oriented policies will be pursued and adopted. We must hold every elected official's feet to the fire when it comes to following the Constitution and voting for smaller government. We must set the example for them through our educational work and let them know conservative "rhetoric" is no longer sufficient. Any member of Congress who wants Liberty advocates to support them will need to prove they are worthy of our support through both words AND their consistent votes to uphold the Constitution and reduce the size of government.

It is time for Liberty lovers to step forward and offer the vision needed to point Congress and our nation in the right direction and to halt the assault on our nation's sovereignty.

It is time to fight for freedom with every resource available...before it is too late!

This is a dangerous time. But it is also an historic opportunity. Please help today with your most generous, tax-deductible gift for freedom. We must act swiftly to fill the leadership void in Washington. The time is NOW and the need is urgent!!!

Logon to www.FREE-NEFL.com now to contribute to the cause of FREEDOM.

I'm counting on you.

For Liberty,

Ron Paul

A Cherokee Indian WBTS Story:)

http://mcclungmuseum.utk.edu/archives/cherokee/images/vets.gif
"There's a story my grandmother used to tell me. Her grandmother was a Cherokee Indian from the then Oklahoma territory. She wound up marrying a cowboy who later moved the family somewhere near Corinth, Miss.

During the war, her husband was off fighting and later the area she lived in became occupied by union troops.

As the story goes, the union soldiers took livestock from the local population and if anybody objected, as did a neighbor, they were summarily executed.

So my great-great grandmother took what livestock they had and hid them in a wooded area in some kind of trench or sendero.

She had something like 6 children and one day was riding her mule down the road and she was accosted by a union patrol, who demanded she turn over her mule to them.

She refused to give it up.

The soldier leading the patrol then said.= "he would stick his hand up her dress" if she wouldn't get off the animal and let them have it.

To which she is alleged to have replied..."You wouldn't be the first man to put your hand up my dress"

This is said to have shocked the union soldier to the point he stepped out of the way and allowed her to proceed, and she never did give the mule up.

"Why would these hundreds of organizations and contracting companies be willing to take gigantic amounts of the taxpayers' money when everyone agrees that the money cannot be spent sensibly and that the system already in place cannot function effectively or efficiently to attain its ostensible purpose? Key Senate Republicans are threatening to pull their support of the START nuclear arms treaty because they don’t like the way Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is handling the Senate floor schedule.

On the second full day of debate on the treaty, two Republicans — Tennessee Sen. Bob Corker and Arizona Sen. John McCain – accused Democrats of playing politics with the treaty by scheduling Saturday votes on repeal of the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy and the DREAM Act.

Action Requested: Impending New Gun Regulation

Go to fullsize image
Dear J&G Customer,

This is a special notice to warn you of impending new gun regulation. The ATF has proposed to require gun dealers to provide directly to the ATF the names, addresses, and serial numbers for every purchase of two or more semi auto, mag fed rifles within a five day period!! They are trying to force this in by January 5th, without any approval from Congress, calling it a needed "emergency" regulation. This is backdoor registration of guns and gunowners.

Here is a quote from the notice by the NSSF (National Shooting Sports Foundation) regarding this burdensome and illegal move:

"The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is moving to require federally licensed firearms retailers to report multiple sales of modern sporting rifles beginning January 5, 2011. Specifically, the ATF requirement calls for firearms retailers to report multiple sales, or other dispositions, of two or more .22 caliber or larger semi-automatic rifles that are capable of accepting a detachable magazine and are purchased by the same individual within five consecutive business days."

We are encouraging everyone to contact the relevant officials to protest this move. The office that approves regulation changes like this that bypass Congress is the Office of Information and Regulation affairs of the DOJ and they can be reached at 202-395-6466. You can call your Senator and Representative at the US Capitol switchboard at 202-224-3121.

The NSSF offers the following points to make when calling

1. "Multiple sales reporting of long guns will actually make it more difficult for licensed retailers to help law enforcement as traffickers modify their illegal schemes to circumvent the reporting requirement. Traffickers will go further underground, hiring more people to buy their firearms. This will make it much harder for retailers to identify and report suspicious behavior to law enforcement."
2. "Long guns are rarely used in crime (Bureau of Justice Statistics)."
3. "Imposing multiple sales-reporting requirements for long guns would further add to the already extensive paperwork and record-keeping requirements burdening America’s retailers – where a single mistake could cost them their license and even land them in jail."
4. "Last year, ATF inspected 2,000 retailers in border states and only two licenses were revoked (0.1%). These revocations were for reasons unknown and could have had nothing to do with illicit trafficking of guns; furthermore, no dealers were charged with any criminal wrongdoing."
5. "According to ATF, the average age of a firearm recovered in the United States is 11 years old. In Mexico it’s more than 14 years old. This demonstrates that criminals are not using new guns bought from retailers in the states."
6. "Congress, when it enacted multiple sales reporting for handguns, could have required multiple sales of long guns – it specifically chose not to."

Congress Theatrics Saved Us Money!

Author ArchiveFridays with Erick Erickson 12.17.10

"Yesterday Congress descended into theatrics. Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC) decided to force the Senate to read the 2,000 page Omnibus appropriations bill. Expecting to be tied up until Saturday with the reading, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) yanked it, thereby saving the taxpayers billions. Instead, the Senate will work with a short continuing resolution.

On the House side, had you told me a year ago that the Democrats would vote to continue what they called the “failed policies of the Bush administration” I’d have never believed you. But sure enough, House Democrats voted to keep the Bush tax cuts in place for two more years.

A lot of conservatives, myself included, wanted to kill the tax compromise on the theory that we’d be in a stronger bargaining position next year. It was not, however, a hill to die on and I suspect no conservatives will try to take vengeance on the Republicans who voted for the deal. After all, it rendered Nancy Pelosi’s final moments as Speaker of the House into rank irony — Pelosi having to defend, support, and push through the House the tax cuts she spent nearly eight years opposing.

It made for a great feast of crow within the Democratic caucus"

The 10th Amendment codifies in law that We the People of the several states created the federal government to be our agent for certain enumerated, or listed, powers -- and nothing more.

The essential question of our day, though, is this -- when the federal government violates these limits, what do we do about it? Remember the words of Thomas Jefferson who reminds us that the States are, “the most competent administrations for our domestic concerns and the surest bulwarks against antirepublican tendencies.”

So what do we do about it? Jefferson again gave us the answer. In 1798 he wrote that "whensoever" the federal government "assumes undelegated powers," that a "nullification of the act is the rightful remedy."

Notice that Jefferson didn't tell us that a nullification of the act is a "good idea" - or that we should first try federal lawsuits or wait for the next election cycle. He said, in fact, that every time Congress exercises powers not delegated to it -- every time -- it must be resisted on a state level. Thus, when states pass laws to reject unconstitutional federal "laws" -- this is not rebellion -- it's duty.

The Nullification Movement is gaining steam!
  • Health Care Nullification: As we gear up for the 2011 State legislative sessions, we need to get behind all actions that resist federal encroachment on a state level. One of the best examples of this is House Bill 297 (HB297) prefiled in Texas last month -- The Federal Health Care Nullification Act. Unlike lawsuits, it doesn't reject just the mandates. It nullifies ALL of Obamacare...
  • Reclaiming the Commerce Clause: For decades, using a tortured definition of the "Interstate Commerce Clause," Congress has claimed the authority to regulate, control, ban, or mandate virtually everything. Virginia's HB1438 puts that to an end by taking control of ALL commerce within the state
  • Gun Rights, EPA Regulations, Monetary Policy and more: Expect to see various states around the country consider legislation on these, and other, issues in 2011. Any undelegated federal power can, and should, be nullified on a state level.

The time to act in support of the Constitution is now. Not next election, and not next year. Not next month and not next week. Today, not tomorrow. Now. Please join us at a Nullify Now! event near you -- and share this information with all your friends -- by email, on Facebook, and the like. Only when good people like yourself work together and do what's right will freedom reign in America. And for us, doing what's right is pretty straightforward. We demand adherence to the Constitution.

Last Day To Stop Amnesty!

From: Roy Beck, President, NumbersUSA
Date: Friday 17DEC2010 1 a.m. EST

TODAY (FRI.) IS YOUR LAST DAY
TO STOP DREAM ACT AMNESTY

Sen. Reid Is Shoe-Horning Vote on Saturday Morning
As Other Senate Efforts Are Falling Apart

PLEASE PICK UP YOUR PHONE TO COUNTER
THE GIANT SURGE OF PRO-AMNESTY LOBBYING

Here Are Today's Target Lists For Phoning

Sen. Reid's change of plans was announced suddenly Thursday evening.

Does that mean he thinks he has the 60 votes to pass this amnesty? Not necessarily. Our NumbersUSA whip count says he doesn't have the votes. But votes could change over the next 24 hours under the barrage of last-minute personal appeals from poster-child illegal-alien students and groups of local clergy all saying the amnesty is a moral requirement. Pres. Obama put out an appeal for clergy to help him round up the last votes needed.

So, the moment of truth is upon every one of us. Will we rise to the occasion and help our allies in the Senate defeat this amnesty?

Your most important phone calls are to your own two Senators.

Following are the lists that show the kinds of calls each Senator needs to get.

TOP PRIORITY: Encourage These 12 Senators
To Stick With Leanings or Pledges To Vote NO

This is the group that we HAVE to win. Fortunately, they are all leaning toward voting NO and their staff may even be saying they probably will vote NO. But our allies in the Senate don't feel absolutely sure of these votes. The dozen Senators are under enormous lobbying pressure intended to make them feel inhumane if they vote NO.

Give them quick phone calls to thank them for their intention to vote NO on the DREAM Act amnesty. And note that a key reason they are right is that DREAM provides zero enforcement to stop future millions of illegal workers from coming and taking jobs from hard-pressed Americans.

2nd PRIORITY: Pound These 3 Senators Up For Re-Election in 2012 Who Are Leaning YES on Amnesty

There is no logical political reason for these Senators to vote YES on amnesty . . . if the people of their states know what they are doing. All three of these have good tendencies in our direction on amnesty in the past. But they are acting like this amnesty is somehow different.

Your job with these Senators is to persuade their staffs that voting for an amnesty without any enforcement will definitely be a key issue in the 2012 elections during what all experts predict will be continuing high unemployment for U.S. workers.

All three of these are Democrats in states that swung heavily Republican in last month's elections. A vote for amnesty might look like political suicide.

3rd PRIORITY: These 3 Senators Do NOT Face 2012 Re-Election But Are On The Fence And Leaning YES

All three of these have voted with us against amnesty in the past.

Tell their staffs that you don't understand how the Senator could oppose "comprehensive immigration reform" in the past when amnesty and enforcement were wrapped together, but now they are willing to pass an amnesty with NO enforcement.

4th PRIORITY: These 6 Senators Lean Strongly YES On Amnesty But Will Have To Face Voters In 2012

Most of these Democrats have had very little interest in hearing from us in the past.

But after last month's cataclysmic results, these Senators find themselves in states where they could have a really competitive race in 2012. Thanks to all of you who phoned them today. Now, we need another round of calls telling them how much an amnesty vote Saturday will be like an albatross around their necks during the 2012 campaigns.

Very few Senate offices are likely to keep their phones open Friday evening or Saturday morning. So, you need to make the calls before this evening.

Georgia Carry.Org Sticker = Special Treatment At Traffic Stop

"This is me getting stopped by Sandy Springs PD for speeding. The second thing the officer asked me, after asking for my license, was if I had any firearms. I responded that I was choosing to exercise my right to remain silent on that question. That answer prompted the officer to have me get out of the car for a pat down. The officer told me that the reason for his question (about firearms) was because I had a 'right to carry' sticker on my car. Yes, he actually said that."
