Bill Would Require All South Dakota Citizens To Buy A Gun

The Lincoln administration attracted many exiled European revolutionaries like Polish Count Adam Gurowski, demagogue, agitator and devotee of Fourier’s socialism. He fled Poland in 1834 for Russia, fled Russia in 1846 for Munich, and arrived in New York City in 1849 with a suitcase full of revolutionary doctrine. He became highly influential in the Radical wing of the Republican party and helped destroy any hope of peaceful settlement in 1861.

The War Between the States Sesquicentennial:
“…[Count Adam] Gurowski’s activities centered in the Radicals, the extremist, abolition-minded wing of the Republican Party. No man saw the lines of demarcation more distinctly [between Radical and Moderate Republicans] than he. No man labored more tirelessly to strengthen the Radicals, dubbed by [John] “Jacobins,” after a leftist faction of the French Revolution.
The attitudes and approaches of the Radicals in preventing compromise while secession snowballed are well illustrated by Gurowski’s relations with the Peace Convention, which assembled at Willard’s Hotel on February 4, 1861. Meeting at the call of the Virginia legislature, all States were represented except Arkansas, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, California, Oregon, and the seven of the lower South. Although the convention assembled too late to be a controlling factor, its activities proved all the more futile, because Radicals insisted that its Republican members maintain an uncompromising stand. The convention’s seven proposed amendments to the Constitution, presented to Congress on February 27, evoked negligible support.
Gurowski was quick to acquaint himself with the Northern delegates, and within a week of the opening of the convention he was conversing freely with a large number. He did not have access to the convention itself, which met behind closed doors, but he managed with uncanny accuracy to discover what was occurring. Realizing that negotiations were taking an unsatisfactory course, he unassumingly appeared before an informal group of the Northern members one evening at Willard’s, suggested a course of action, and related plots [by Southerners] to seize the Union.
He told them they would “make a mess of it,” and impetuously questioned: “Are you lambs to be eaten up unresistingly by the wolves of secession?” Then he unfolded the plots. Federal property would be transferred as rapidly as possible to the South. Armed Southerners would pack Washington when the electoral votes were counted in the House of Representatives on February 13. They would start a riot, then seize the executive departments and the capitol and establish a confederacy with Jefferson Davis as president.
Then Gurowski revealed the second plot. This time Jefferson Davis was its head and general manager, with full authority to assign special duties, and he alone determined the extent to which others should be admitted to the conspiracy. March 4, Lincoln’s inaugural day…[Davis’ conspirators] would provide the necessary men to effect the coup d’etat.
“Here,” said Gurowski, “you are permitting yourselves to be used as the instruments of a treasonable conspiracy, when you ought to be at home, organizing and drilling your regiments, preparing to defend the only government worth living under left on the face of the earth.”
Radical propaganda spread by Gurowski and supported by [New York delegate James] Wadsworth and other Republicans,…was instrumental in the breakdown of the Peace Convention. When Northern delegates heard of the Count’s alarms, they doubted their efforts. Fears increased, and the spirit of compromise sank deeper and deeper as hate flared in the convention debates.”

Things are happening fast and furiously in connection with our efforts to destroy the anti-gun ObamaCare law.
This law would allow the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) to troll a national medical database in order to impose gun bans on persons with ailments such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
For this reason, GOA has been working with Congress to ensure that this abomination is not just "tweaked," but totally repealed.
Here are some recent developments:
ObamaCare Declared Unconstitutional In A Lawsuit Brought By 26 States
In a massive blow to the Obama administration's socialist anti-gun agenda, Florida federal district judge Roger Vinson held on Monday that ObamaCare was unconstitutional and "non-severable." This means that, if the decision is upheld, the entire law goes into the trash bin.
The Obama administration will appeal Judge Vinson's decision to the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta -- one of the more conservative circuits. Ultimately, the case is expected to be decided by the Supreme Court.
When GOA first became involved in fighting ObamaCare during the winter of 2009, at least a half-dozen Republican senators were cosponsoring the "individual mandate" that all Americans must buy insurance. And many more were thought to believe it was a good idea. GOA members throughout the country blasted GOP senators like Utah's Bob Bennett for their support of the mandate, and ultimately forced moderate Republicans to reverse their support for it -- setting the stage for a united GOP to attack ObamaCare on the basis of its unconstitutional mandate.
House Repeal Bill Brought Onto The Senate Calendar
At the urging of GOA, Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell has used the provisions of the Senate rules to bring the House-passed ObamaCare repeal bill, H.R. 2, directly onto the Senate calendar. At this point, it is possible for ANY senator to move that the Senate take up this bill at any time.
All 47 Republicans Cosponsor DeMint Repeal Bill
A close friend of GOA, Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC), has introduced Senate legislation to repeal ObamaCare. That bill is comparable to H.R. 2, which passed the House. All 47 Senate Republicans have agreed to cosponsor the DeMint bill -- meaning that the Republican Party is united behind the ObamaCare repeal and the Democratic Party is nearly united in support of ObamaCare.
ObamaCare Repeal Test Votes To Occur This Week
The first Senate vote on ObamaCare repeal will occur on a McConnell amendment which will be offered to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reauthorization bill, S. 223, which is currently pending in the Senate.
Unfortunately, this is not an ideal strategy. Even if the McConnell amendment were adopted, it could be objected to by the House because it would be a Senate-initiated revenue bill, in contravention of the constitutional requirement that such a bill originate in the House.
Furthermore, anti-gun liberal Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has indicated that he would pepper the FAA bill with amendments highlighting the "popular" provisions of ObamaCare. Schumer indicated, on Sunday talk shows, that his intention was to turn the ObamaCare repeal effort into "Swiss cheese."
It would have been better for McConnell to simply move to proceed to the House bill.
Nevertheless, this is the hand we've been dealt. And the significance of this test vote is huge, as we'll begin to see where wobbly senators stand.
ACTION: Contact your two senators. Urge them to support the ObamaCare repeal amendment to the FAA bill and oppose the Schumer "Swiss cheese" amendments. Click on the Gun Owners Legislative Action Center to send your senators a pre-written message.

Support Birthright Citizenship Act Of 2011
We may soon reach the last link in “chain migration” as the legislative battle to clarify the 14th Amendment has officially begun. Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) has introduced H.R. 140, “To amend section 301 of the Immigration and Nationality Act to clarify those classes of individuals born in the United States who are nationals and citizens of the United States at birth.” Upon introduction, it was immediately referred to the House Committee on the Judiciary.
H.R. 140 is not a separate amendment to the Constitution, nor will it nullify the 14th Amendment. The intent is to revert back to the original intent and meaning of the “subject to jurisdiction” clause in the 14th Amendment which states in whole, “All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.”
This clarification is sorely needed to straighten out once and for all whether children born within the borders of the United States are automatically granted full citizenship and all the accompanying privileges and immunities, or whether the language and intent and sense at the time of adoption of the 14th Amendment shows that babies granted full citizenship needed to be born to those who were here legally, subject to the laws of these United States, and without allegiance to any foreign powers. The original intent of the founding fathers of the 14th Amendment -- Lyman Trumbull, Jacob Merritt Howard and John Bingham -- is difficult to miss.
With 340,000 anchor newborns added to this country in 2008 belonging to illegal parents, plus the 4 million U.S.-born children of illegal parents that will be or are already being educated and covered by taxpayer funded health care programs, it’s no wonder Americans are overwhelmingly in favor of closed borders, no amnesty, and the end to what is a de facto immigration policy that is in conflict with the 14th Amendment.
Many highly organized and well-funded special interest groups are mobilizing to pressure congress into opposing and stifling any clarification of the “subject to jurisdiction” clause. Those favoring a non-existent but wholesale “immigrants' rights” policy include the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, the American Civil Liberties Union, the NAACP, the National Council of La Raza, American Immigration Lawyers' Association, the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund (MALDEF) and others. They are attempting to influence the debate by carefully shifting the terminology they use to promote their cause.
Contact your Representative and Senators in Congress and explain your stand, educating them on this issue if you, too, are in favor of the original 14th Amendment that did not grant automatic citizenship for all children who happen to be birthed on our soil, regardless of their parents’ status. And be sure to emphasize that any sovereign nation has the right to set boundaries, geographic ones as well as those concerning human affairs and sustainability.

Senate Repeal Vote On Obamacare TODAY or Tomorrow
The House is in recess until February 7th (more details on that below) but the Senate is in session and things are happening there.
It looks as though Sen. McConnell has determined a way to force Sen. Reid to allow a full repeal vote in the Senate today or tomorrow!!
The GOP is going to try to use the Federal Aviation Administration reauthorization, S 223, as a vehicle for repealing the 1099 provision of Obamacare. The Senate Republicans will add an amendment to S223 and the amendment will be to repeal ObamaCare.
