JWR Notes: I still have a lot of "cui bono?" questions about this military adventure. Why are the French so heavily involved? What reconstructions deals were made, in order to create the coalition? Why was Germany so incensed that they withdrew their troops from NATO? Is Gaddafi's gold reserve an issue? How about the Libyan Dinar? (Were there plans to make it a gold-backed currency? That would have been an embarrassment to all the other nations that issue fiat.) Why is there a double standard with other Arab dictatorships? What is Al Qaeda's involvement? And the 64-Dollar Question: What sort of government will replace Gaddafi's dictatorship? Perhaps a dictatorial Islamic caliphate? IMHO, the Iraq war was bad enough, in lacking an exit strategy, but this seems even worse--with no certain end game or even a clear victor. Cui bono? Cui bono?

NC legislator says the state needs its own currency

RALEIGH -- Cautioning that the federal dollars in your wallet could soon be little more than green paper backed by broken promises, state Rep. Glen Bradley wants North Carolina to issue its own legal tender backed by silver and gold.

The Republican from Youngsville has introduced a bill that would establish a legislative commission to study his plan for a state currency. He is also drafting a second bill that would require state government to accept gold and silver coins as payment for taxes and fees.

If the state treasurer starts accepting precious metals as payment, Bradley said that could prod the private sector to follow suit - potentially allowing residents to trade gold for groceries.

"I think we're in the process of inflating a dollar bubble that could be very devastating," said Bradley, a freshman legislator elected in November's GOP tide. "The idea is once the study commission finishes its work, then we could build on top of the hard-money currency with an actual State Tender Act that will basically [issue currency] in correspondence to precious metals stored in the state treasury."

The doctors could not understand why I had no problems, but this was '74/'75 before there was knowledge of this benefit. This was also before knowledge that Agent Orange could cause cancer which is how I got it at 30, when normally you have cancer of the vocal cords between 50 and 60 after being a multi-pack a day user of tobacco for many years. I only smoked sparingly.

Here’s a puzzle for you. Gaddafi kills thousands of Arabs—his own people—and the US responds by bombing his nation, hoping to change policy or even overthrow the regime, killing civilians in the process. This is called “humanitarianism.”

People will accuse me of “moral equivalence”—i.e., the sin of pointing out that when the U.S. government intentionally commits an act of violence that predictably kills innocent people, it is morally comparable to anyone else intentionally committing an act of violence that predictably kills innocent people. Go ahead and accuse me of that. But what sickens me is that people are bickering over what we might call the “Obama doctrine,” the “Bush doctrine,” and the “Clinton doctrine”—as opposed to the “bin Laden doctrine” and the “Gaddafi doctrine”—as though it matters much to the loved ones of those who were slaughtered by any of these political leaders.

Armed Beauty Queen Fatally Shoots Intruder in Florida Home Invasion

When a burly ex-convict forced his way into a posh Florida home last week, he had no idea what awaited him -- a 25-year-old beauty queen with a pink .38-caliber handgun.

Meghan Brown, a former Florida pageant queen, shot and killed 42-year-old Albert Franklin Hill during a home invasion March 12 at the 2,732-square-foot house she shares with her fiance in Tierra Verde, Fla.

Hill barged into the home at around 3 a.m. after Brown responded to a knock at the front door, according to a police report. He allegedly grabbed the 110-pound Brown around her nose and mouth and dragged her to an upstairs bedroom.
