"Political tags, such as royalist, communist, democrat, populist, fascist, liberal, conservative, and so forth, are never basic criteria. The human race divides politically into those who want people to be controlled and those who have no such desire."

Gunwalker: Cover-up = damning email = Newell perjury certain

Congressional investigators tell CBS News there's evidence the U.S. Attorney's office in Arizona sought to cover up a link between their controversial gunwalking operation known as "Fast and Furious" and the death of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry.

Terry was murdered in Arizona near the US border last December. Two assault rifles ATF had allegedly allowed onto the street without interdiction were found at the scene.

But the US Attorney's office working both the Terry murder and the "Fast and Furious" operation did not immediately disclose the two had any link. Two Republicans investigating the scandal, Sen. Charles Grassley (R-IA) and Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) say there's evidence that officials at ATF and the US Attorney's office sought to hide the connection.

In a letter, Grassley and Issa say the lead prosecutor on Fast and Furious, Assistant US Attorney Emory Hurley, learned almost immediately that guns allowed onto the street in his case, had been recovered at Terry's murder. "(I)n the hours after Agent Terry's death," says the letter from Grassley and Issa, Hurley apparently "contemplated the connection between the two cases and sought to prevent the connection from being disclosed." The Justice Department recently transferred Hurley out of the criminal division into the civil division.

An internal ATF email dated the day after Terry's death reveals the quick decision to not disclose the source of the weapons found at the murder scene: "... this way we do not divulge our current case (Fast and Furious) or the Border Patrol shooting case."

Another ATF email indicates that the justification both offices used to not charge the suspect with crimes related to the murder scene "was to not 'complicate' the FBI's investigation."

Pathetic, Cindy Casares, and I'm sure the good boys of Texas can take care of themselves quite adequately.
"........the Texas Brigade was passing in review to honor a visiting British colonel. The visitor noticed that the wear and tear of months in the field had taken the seat of almost every Texan's trousers. Some had patched them, but a good many more hadn't. "Never mind their raggedness, Colonel. "The enemy never sees the back of my Texans," said Lee.

DOJ Advises Gibson Guitar to Export Labor to Madagascar

Via Don

The Gibson Guitar saga has taken a sinister turn.

It seems that the Department of Justice wasn’t satisfied with merely raiding the law abiding factories of Gibson Guitar with armed agents, shutting down their operation costing them millions, and leaving the American company in the dark as to how to proceed without going out of business.

Now, according to CEO Henry Juszkiewicz, agents of the United States government are bluntly informing them that they’d be better off shipping their manufacturing labor overseas.

In an interview with KMJ AM’s “The Chris Daniel Show,” Juszkiewicz revealed some startling information.

Gew 88 and more

Imperial Prussian Soldier with Gewehr 1888 Commission Rifle and Model 1871 Bayonet

VARIOUS PICTURES
I don't like 1903 Springfields, to the point of passionate detestation, and I've yet to find an unmolested 1917 I liked. I have a 1911 date BSA SMLE, but the Ishapore looks better in photos for show-n-tell. Still looking for a nice P1914, I have a tigery stock kicking around for one.

My verdict? The Gew 88 Commissiongewehr by a far margin. Very accurate, fast loading, nice fit and finish, points well, smooth bolt.

Second place ties the Gew 98, which is elegant and has the best battle sight of any rifle I've ever used, and the Steyr 1895 long rifle, which has the worst battle sight but the best ergonomics for a left-handed shooter.

Honorable mention to the Ross 1910B, but the magazine on mine is screwed up, so I can't rightly avow it as a functional example- but it is VERY accurate. Fragile sights, though.

A beautiful beach and a cold, cold beer

A perfect day with the pier back open and fishing in full swing. They will rebuild the damaged end this winter.

Blue should appreciate this among others.:) During the power outage, water dripped on the top of the beer cans forming ice covering the top and making a cold, cold one. I remember in Saigon, there was this man who owned a place and he had the following down pat. He kept the bottled Ba Mui Ba (33) beers at a certain temperature so that when he brought them to you, he would slam the bottle down on the table and once he opened it, there were wonderfully cold slivers of ice through it. Then he would sit down and enjoy some with us. I'll never forget his sweet, shy wife. Wish I could see them again.
