Texas: Girl with Down syndrome crowned homecoming queen
LIBERTY COUNTY, Texas—Becoming homecoming queen is a dream for many high school girls. But at Tarkington High School in Liberty County, some girls in the running worked to make sure one particular student was crowned.
A total of four students were vying to become the school’s homecoming queen, but they told their supporters to vote for Sydney Bloom. The 18-year-old student has Down syndrome.
It was an act of kindness and beauty, according to the school principal.
9/11 Memorial Organizers Appalled After Georgia County Solicitor General Disrespectfully Removes Flags
3,000 American flags that each represented a victim of 9/11 were planted at a city park in Canton, Georgia, but found their way to trash cans and the floor of the Cherokee County Courthouse. CBS Atlanta reports that the organizers who planted the memorial are outraged after learning the order to disrespectfully remove the flags came from the Cherokee County Solicitor General David Cannon Jr.

“The devoted band [in Parliament] that dared brave the anger of the King and the madness of the hour, and defend American [colonists] rights under the taunt of being abettors of treason, deserve to be held in lasting remembrance. In the House of Lords the Duke of Richmond having said,” I do not think the people of America in rebellion, but resisting acts of the most unexampled cruelty and oppression,” he was loudly called to order , and the Earl of Denbigh, in an excited and boisterous manner, undertook to reprimand him, closing with the words, “I do openly contend that those who defend rebellion, are themselves little better than rebels; and that there is very little difference between the traitor, and he who openly or privately abets treason.”
The Duke commenced a withering reply…”I am not to be intimidated or deterred from my duty by loud words.” Later in the session upon news of the death of [patriot General Richard] Montgomery in attempting to storm Quebec, Barre’, Burke, and Fox, all passed high eulogies in the House of Commons upon the gallant American. Lord North thereupon arose, and “censured what he called this unqualified liberality of the praises bestowed on General Montgomery, by the gentlemen in opposition, because they were bestowed upon a rebel; and said he could not join in lamenting his death as a public loss. He admitted, indeed, that he was brave, humane, generous; but still he was only a brave, able, humane, and generous rebel; and said that the verse of the tragedy of Cato might be applied to him –
“Curse on his virtues, they’ve undone his country.”
Mr. [Charles James] Fox arose a second time and said:
“The term “rebel” applied by the noble Lord, to that excellent person, was no certain mark of disgrace, and therefore he was the less earnest to clear him of the imputation; for that all the great assertors of liberty, the saviours of their country, the benefactors of mankind, in all ages, had been called rebels; that [the British] owed the constitution, which enabled them to sit in that house, to a rebellion.”

Oh Look, A Millionaire's Tax!
VERBATIM POST
======================
President Barack Obama will propose a new levy on U.S. taxpayers who make more than $1 million as a means to help trim the nation’s debt, adopting a suggestion from billionaire investor Warren Buffett, according to an administration official.
The president hasn’t settled on the new minimum tax rate for top earners, which is designed to make sure the wealthiest taxpayers aren’t paying a lower effective tax rate than middle- income earners, the official said. Obama has already proposed limiting some tax deductions for those in the highest income brackets, taxing carried interest as regular income and ending breaks for gas and oil companies to pay for the $447 billion jobs package.
This is pretty simple to do, assuming he's serious.
If your AGI is over $1m then all income is taxed at ordinary income rates irrespective of how you earned it, and with no deductibility against it.
That is, you lose all deductions against any AGI over $1m, and in addition all income over $1m is taxed at 35% + 2.1% (Medicare.) Assuming the Bush tax cuts do not extend after 2012 it will be 39.6% + 2.1%.
Is this "fair"? Good question. It is without dispute that most who make over $1m a year do not get most of their money from W2 income where it is exposed to the normal marginal tax rates; it comes from carried interest and capital gains. Some invest heavily in municipal bonds which are federal-tax exempt.
The latter, however, is not really "tax free" since the yield on those bonds is lower than the yield on taxable securities. While there is some tax benefit most of the "benefit" is just shifted to the state in the form of a lower interest rate they must pay.
The Republicans will have a serious problem opposing this, irrespective of the facts on who generates jobs in America. While the fact remains that I've never been given a job by a poor man -- it has always been a wealthy corporation or individual who has hired me -- it also remains true that public outrage at the idea of a rich bank CEO or hedge fund manager making $100 million a year and paying 15% in taxes while the ordinary guy pays 25% or more does indeed resonate with the common man, and he outvotes the rich bastard simply on the numbers.
The fight on this one ought to be quite interesting to watch.....
The Three Conversions of Walter B. Jones
My Representative Walter B. Jones Interviews Ron Paul
=====================
UNTIL THE CONGRESSMAN from North Carolina spoke, the hearings were proceeding routinely. The Armed Services Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives was convened on April 6 in a stately room in the Rayburn office building to consider the progress of the war in Iraq; much of the testimony was barely more animated than the paintings of deceased legislators adorning the walls. Richard Perle, a former Pentagon adviser and one of the war's principal architects, had taken the witness chair. He was serene and unflappable as he answered questions about the Pentagon budget, oil prices, and the training of Iraqi troops. Then the chairman called on Rep. Walter B. Jones. Glaring at the witness, Jones quoted a statement from Perle's testimony suggesting that the administration had been misled in its assessment of Iraq by "double agents planted by the regime." The congressman's voice quavered as he demanded an apology to the country. "It is just amazing to me how we as a Congress were told we had to remove this man, but the reason we were given was not accurate."
"I went to a Marine's funeral that left a wife and three children, twins he never saw," Jones said, his voice cracking as his eyes began to water. "And I'll tell you—I apologize, Mr. Chairman, but I am just incensed at this statement." He continued, "When you make a decision as a member of Congress and you know that decision is going to lead to the death of American boys and girls, some of us take that pretty seriously, and it's very heavy on our hearts."
Cloward-Piven: The Ultimate Goal of Gunwalker?
PJMedia reader “eon” posted an insightful comment in response to my September 15 article on the Gunwalker scandal:
To the best of my knowledge, no previous U.S. administration has ever destabilized the government of a putatively friendly foreign power purely for domestic political gain.
The closest you can get would be the revolutionary movement in what is now Panama, that the U.S. nurtured to gain that area’s independence (from Nicaragua) — to facilitate building the Panama Canal. But that was a pre-existing revolutionary movement with pre-existing complaints against the Nicaraguan government that did not include stopping them from selling illegal drugs. (Editor’s note: Panama gained its independence from Colombia, not Nicaragua.)
The gains Obama & Co. seem to be seeking come in three flavors. Ranked in order of time-criticality from their POV, they are most likely:
1. Short-term: Increased illegal immigration from Mexico as people attempt to flee the increasing violence (allowing them to push the DREAM Act through, and “stacking the deck” in the next election via ACORN and SEIU);
2. Medium-term: Propaganda for tighter gun laws (possibly enacted by Executive Order, bypassing the Congress);
3. Long-term: Legalization of “recreational drugs,” helped by a “drug friendly” Mexican government, influenced by if not overtly controlled by the drug cartels.
I strongly suspect that (3) is the ultimate objective, with (1) and (2) being seen (at least by Obama & Co.) as “stepping-stones” to attaining it.
Southern town denounces ‘Jayhawkers’ as domestic terrorists
terrorist group.
On this date, the City of Osceola, after hearing all of the evidence, and for good cause shown, finds the following:
1. That on September 21 – 23, 1861, a group of domestic terrorist, referred to as “the jayhawkers,” sacked the city of Osceola, St. Clair County, Missouri and burned all but four or five of the city’s buildings to the ground.
2. That on or around that date, twelve citizens of Osceola, St. Clair County, Missouri, were executed by said terrorist group.
3. That the above-mentioned occurrence eventually led to William Clark Quantrill’s raid on Lawrence, kansas, as Missourians had no choice but to defend themselves from the murderous attacks perpetrated by the jayhawkers, led by Jim Lane and James Montgomery.
4. That when the University of kansas fielded its football team in 1890, it referred to the team as “the jayhawkers,” an obvious celebration of the above-named terrorist group. This term was eventually shortened to “jayhawks,” a name which has since been officially adopted by the University of kansas as the mascot for all its sports teams.
5. That the present-day “jayhawks,” kU alumni, citizens of the state of kansas, et al,, have willfully, wantonly and recklessly disregarded the above-mentioned occurrence when discussing the roots of the “Border War” which currently existed between the University of Missouri Tigers and the University of kansas jayhawks.
6. Whereas, the Civil War Trust, Summer 2011 issue of “Hallowed Ground” published by the National Park Services does hereby acknowledge that partisan forces led by Jim Lane raided and sacked the town of Osceola, Missouri, executing nine men after a hastily arranged court martial.
IT IS THEREFORE RESOLVED that the City of Osceola, Missouri, by and through its citizens, officially CONDEMNS the celebration of this murderous gang of terrorists by an institution of “higher education,” in such a brazen and malicious manner.
IT IS FURTHER RESOLVED that citizens of the City of Osceola, Missouri requests the University of Missouri to educate the above-named Defendants on the FULL historical origins of the “Border War.”
IT IS FURTHER RESOLVED that no citizen of the City of Osceola or the alumni of the University of Missouri shall ever capitalize the “k” in “kansas” or “kU,” as neither is a proper name or a proper place.

A New Indian Suit: Yeagley v. Communists
When American Indians surrendered our weapons, there was only one hope left for us: the White Man’s law. That same law may be the last hope of American patriots today.
As an American Indian patriot, I just sued the enemies of American freedom. On August 8, 2011, I filed against the people who have attempted to deny First Amendment rights to American Renaissance, myself, and VDARE.com. I have sued Daryle Lamont Jenkins, One People’s Project, and others; and an unspecified number of “John Does” to be revealed in the suit.
These professional protesters have been a menace to American freedom for years. They have recently succeeded in shutting down the American Renaissance conferences in 2010 and 2011 by directly threatening the hotel host management and employees. Their adverse and egregious influence is growing.
As an Indian, I did what every American has to be willing to do: I sued them.
Otherwise, we may eventually all lose our freedoms, forever.
I’ll not be robbed twice. Indians lost the first wars with the White Man, but, all Americans are threatened this second time—by white Oedipal liberals. I’ll not have anti-Americans, of any color, rob me again—at least not without a fight.
Can I count on the patriot White Man to join me—to defend the very country he created, this glorious land we call America?
I was scheduled to be a speaker at the 2010 American Renaissance Conference. But the conference was cancelled—repeatedly. Hotel after hotel reneged on their contracts, folding under the intimidation of street thugs.
Who is behind them?
There are larger supporters than those first named in the suit. One People’s Project, one of the organizations known to be involved in attacking, is sponsored by the Brecht Forum, a well-established Marxist organization in New York City. This is openly acknowledged on the One People’s Project web site.
The vice-president for Human Affairs of United Steel Workers International, Fred Redmond, ran a piece in TheHill.com, “Shun Bigots” (TK DATE), condemning American Renaissance—and anyone associated with it. And other groups were involved in publicly protesting the AmRen conference.
Non-violent protest is a First Amendment right. But threatening hotels is not.
Communists exist in multitudinous groups across the country, all “community organized” and able to create a protest, a political crisis, a street brawl, at any time, in any place. Communist groups are arguably the predecessors of today’s “flash mobs”. (We might wonder who is really behind the flash mobs).
Who are the ones that belittle and impugn Ron Paul?
Evangelical Christians. Why? Because he tells the truth about America’s foreign policy being responsible for much of the hatred and bitterness erupting in foreign countries against us. I guarantee you that many of the “conservative” Republicans who booed Dr. Paul’s comments to this regard at the GOP Presidential debate this week would identify themselves as evangelical Christians.
With Thomas Wolfe whispering in my head
Can't get enough of this. Talk about bringing back memories of how I was raised, grew up, back when times were better. For instance: Snow
When I was a kid Uncle Remus he put me to bed
With a picture of Stonewall Jackson above my head
Then daddy came in to kiss his little man
With gin on his breath and a Bible in his hand
He talked about honor and things I should know
Then he'd stagger a little as he went out the door
CHORUS:
I can still hear the soft Southern wind in the live oak trees
And those Williams boys they still mean a lot to me
Hank and Tennessee
I guess we're all gonna be what we're gonna be
So what do you do with good ole boys like me?
Nothing makes a sound in the night like the wind does
But you ain't afraid if you're washed in the blood like I was
The smell of cape jasmine through the window screen
John R. and the Wolfman kept me company
By the light of the radio by my bed
With Thomas Wolfe whispering in my head
I can still hear the soft Southern wind in the live oak trees
And those Williams boys they still mean a lot to me
Hank and Tennessee
I guess we're all gonna be what we're gonna be
So what do you do with good ole boys like me?
When I was in school I ran with a kid down the street
But I watched him burn himself up on bourbon and speed
But I was smarter than most and I could choose
Learned to talk like the man on the six o'clock news
When I was eighteen, Lord, I hit the road
But it really doesn't matter how far I go
I can still hear the soft Southern winds in the live oak trees
And those Williams boys they still mean a lot to me
Hank and Tennessee
I guess we're all gonna be what we're gonna be
So what do you do with good ole boys like me?
Yeah, what do you do with good ole boys like me?
