Girl Scout Kooky

At my first and last Brownie meeting, I hid in the community-center bathroom for two hours while the other girls played jumpsies, screeched like pterodactyls, and did other scary stuff.

From that night on, I pegged the Girl Scouts as an inconsequential holding pen for dimwitted, extroverted sheep and bossy Lucy van Pelts whose parents got stuck selling overrated cookies once a year.

Until recently, I had no idea the organization was helping dismantle what’s left of the West.

Unflattering news stories about the Girl Scouts (GSUSA) are becoming the “shark attacks” of early 2012.

First came the tale of Sydney Volanski, a 15-year-old girl who quit the Girl Scouts because its handbook about “combat[ing] media misinformation” recommended the unabashedly left-wing “watchdog” site Media Matters as a trusted resource. Besides being blatantly biased and often downright inaccurate, the site encourages foul-mouthed, unhinged personal attacks in its comments. Not exactly wholesome reading.

Earlier this month, a Girl Scout employee quit after a superior told her to turn her “Pray to End Abortion” T-shirt inside-out.

Then a 14-year-old girl in Ventura County posted a video calling for a boycott of Girl Scout cookies to protest the organization’s “radical homosexual agenda.”

Here at UR we absolutely adore simplicity. The truth is not always simple, it's true. But the lies are always complicated. And there are so many lies! Even in this historic golden age of bullshit, is it possible to oversimplify? To steal a line from Hunter Thompson, it's possible for a Hell's Angel to catch the clap, too. He doesn't waste much time worrying about it.

But America has so many problems! No, she doesn't. America has only one problem: America is a communist country.

And has been since before you were born. And probably before your mother was born. Earl Browder was right: communism is as American as apple pie. Russia didn't infect America. America infected Russia. After which the germ went back and forth a few times - as we'll see. It eventually died out in Russia, which is nice because that just leaves us. How simple!

Alas, this beautiful, simple, horrifying reality is simply too difficult for most Americans to grasp, let alone do something about. If you tell an American of any political persuasion that his is a communist country, the poor fscker will simply laugh in your face. Cancer, that's so funny. Of course I couldn't possibly have cancer. Yes, there's this thing - it's just a growth...

If you love your American, don't let him get away with it! Don't let him wallow in his denial! Hit him straight in the teeth with a fast overhand right. "Of course America is a communist country," you can say. "You just have to translate. For workers and peasants, read blacks and Hispanics."

Now this is a zinger, but it's just a zinger. One little zinger never cured anyone. It gives you something to work with, that's all. Your interlocutor, if there's any hope for him, may be a sharp fellow himself. He might punch back with a zinger of his own. For example, he could say: "oh, yeah? So tell me, smart guy, on what day did America become a communist country?"

Whereupon some might be stumped. But you, dear UR reader, have an answer. America became a communist country on December 20, 1933. Was there transmission of saliva? Oh, yes, there was transmission of saliva.

I say "at a bare minimum," because the published edition (1972) of William Bullitt's letters to FDR was edited by Bullitt's brother, Orville, with assistance from George Kennan. Orville's elisions (which I've marked OB) are frequent, especially at the juicy moments. Do they conceal even more... "intimate..." revelations? It's clear that nothing really juicy could remain, but even what's left is... remarkable. I've of course made my own cuts, which conceal nothing.

GSA launches $322 million courthouse project over lawmakers' objections

Via Cousin John

The General Services Administration is moving ahead with plans to build a new $322 million courthouse in Los Angeles despite objections from key lawmakers.

GSA issued a request for qualifications Jan. 20 for a 600,000-square-foot courthouse to be finished no later than March, 2016.

Rep. Jeff Denham, R-Calif., chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure subcommittee on public buildings, said in a statement there was already enough space in existing Los Angeles courthouses.

"GSA knows this project is unnecessary, which is why they are making a mad dash to spend the money now," Denham said.

Denham and Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton, D-D.C., the ranking member of the subcommittee, sent a letter Oct. 21 asking GSA not to begin construction on the courthouse.

Rep. John Mica, Chairman of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, called the new courthouse project "idiotic" and said in a statement that it was a waste of taxpayer dollars.

On the Intellectual Inferiority of Liberalism

In consequence it is not difficult to see why the Southern gentleman looked upon religion as a great conservative agent and a bulwark of those institutions which served him. Spokesmen of the South were constantly criticizing Northerners for making religion a handmaid of social and political reform…..a writer in The Southern Literary Messenger thus described the North’s mixing of religious and secular causes: “Her priesthood prostitutes itself to the level with a blackguard and enters the secular field of politics, in the spirit of a beerhouse bully: and the politician as carelessly invades the sanctuary of the priest.”………The Evangelical sects aimed at a conversion of the inner man; the conservative ones at the exposition of a revealed ethic; both regarded themselves as custodians of the mysteries, little concerned with social agitation and out of reach of winds of political doctrine.the whole below*

Via Old Virginia Blog

Liberalism used to be a respectable position for intelligent, well-meaning, and informed people. That was a long time ago. No longer.

Today the "liberal" faith requires an extraordinary act of ignorance, purposeful forgetting, and constant spinning. To be a faithful "liberal" today you have to forget the whole 20th century, and its 100 million victims of the radical left -- that is, victims of Obama's brand of leftism. You have to shut out of your mind the fact that Obama hails from today's Chicago Machine, the most storied and undemocratic political machine since Boss Tweed.

You have to ignore the bloody history of black nationalism in America, where Obama's hero Malcolm X was assassinated by the followers of Elijah Muhammed. You have to ignore the racial blackmail that has controlled American politics since the rise of the post-MLK "civil rights" movement, when all the heroic actions of a few civil rights campaigners like Martin Luther King, Jr., was taken over by dangerous racial demagogues like Rev. Al, the Rev. Wright and the radical left.

All those facts have to be sunk into your capacious black hole of memory, along with the history of the Soviet Union and its 100 million helpless victims. The Nazis only had 13 years to kill six million Jews, and even more Gypsies, homosexuals, Poles, democratic Germans, and of course, the religious. The Soviets and Chinese had seventy years or longer, and killed correspondingly more millions of victims with the same style of sociopathic control freakery. North Korea is the biggest Communist museum piece today, but nobody on the liberal side seems to take any responsibility for it -- just as they deny their alliance with Muslim fascists all over the world, who are agitating for another century of mass murder.

As Michael Ledeen recently pointed out, the Hitler-Stalin alliance is alive today, only the names have changed. It's now called Left-Islamofascism. The same old murderous alliance under a new label.

If you are a self-labeled "liberal" today, you own that history; therefore you must deny and evade it.

Checking his sundial and solar-powered calendar, Barack Obama........

........ has decided that he did not have enough time to study the impact of the $7 billion Keystone XL pipeline from Canada, so he killed it.

Seriously. That was the excuse for halting a project that could have created 20,000 jobs, brought 830,000 barrels of oil a day to Texas refineries and helped free America from unstable dictators’ stranglehold on our energy supply.

This from the man who had to hurry, hurry, hurry and jam the 2,700-page Obamacare bill down America’s throat so, as then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said, “you can, uh, find out what is in it.” He’s also the same guy who, in March, went to Brazil, cup in hand, asking the Brazilians to hurry up and develop their offshore oil so we could buy some.

The State Department said this about the Keystone XL pipeline, which has been on the drawing board for three years: The decision was “predicated on the fact that the department does not have sufficient time to obtain the information necessary to assess whether the project, in its current state, is in the national interest.”

I often get very nasty letters that make my blood boil. I guess that is the price regular columnists of LewRockwell.com have to pay for contributing to this blog, since we all take rather unpopular positions on many issues. Often these letters are filled with nasty expletives, question my parentage, and much worse.

But rarely do I receive a letter that really infuriates me. The one below is entirely polite. There is not a slur in it. No questioning of my sanity, my morality, my ethnic or religious persuasion. There is no threat in it, implied or explicit. And yet this one is far worse than those others. I repeat it below, along with my response to it. See if it doesn’t enrage you too.

Subject: Federal Reserve Board Research Assistant Opportunities

Dear Professor Block:

I am writing to request your assistance in informing your department's students about Research Assistant (RA) positions at the Federal Reserve Board. Our positions are highly competitive; each year we hire approximately 20-30 recent undergraduates as RAs. While at the Board, RAs work on a broad range of topics and have the opportunity to increase their quantitative skills by working on both real-world policy issues and high-level research projects. After their time at the Board, many of our RAs move on to top graduate school programs.

Additionally, we offer summer internships for economics, mathematics, and finance students to work on advanced research projects with Board economists.

Thank you for supporting our program.

Best,
Dustin Rawlins

Dear Mr. Rawlins:

I will indeed pass along your message to my students. I will do so, despite the fact that I think yours is a criminal organization, because, one, I owe it to my students to pass along information about all (presently) legal job openings and two, because I like to have my students make up their own minds about issues of this sort.

But when I do so in my next mailing to them, I will append a message of my own, alongside yours.

Here it is:

Dear Students:

I regard the Fed as a criminal organization, since it engages in (well, aids and abets) counterfeiting. The Fed is to the U.S. economy as was the old central planning apparatus of the late and non-lamented Soviet Union to the entire economy of the U.S.S.R.

Starbucks Gun Appreciation Day

We have an announcement from the National Gun Control Victims Action Council, an umbrella group for the usual suspects, that they are going to boycott Starbucks on Valentine’s Day 2012, which is February 14th. I am going to declare February 14th Starbucks Appreciation Day, by encouraging gun owners to head to Starbucks to buy some of their fine coffee and pastry products. Bitter and I will certainly participate. I encourage everyone to follow through to the link to the official event to take a look at what they are encouraging folks to do, and do the same, only with a pro-gun or gun-neutral message. You can e-mail Starbucks here. and tell them you appreciate them not taking a position on this issue, and following state laws, and that you appreciate their products. Don’t use the gun control organization’s form, even though you can change the message. They will likely use that to present to Starbucks corporate and spin your name on the list as a supporter of Starbucks banning guns.

I can promise you we can more than offset whatever paltry decrease in sales the anti-gun people will cause. Nontheless, our opponents have once again brought this deceased equine out for a flogging, so we have to once again show Starbucks there are a lot more of us then there are of them.

José Martí was killed in battle against Spanish troops at the Battle of Dos Ríos, near the confluence of the rivers Contramaestre and Cauto, on May 19, 1895. Gómez had recognized that the Spaniards had a strong position between palm trees, so he ordered his men to disengage. Martí was alone and seeing a young courier ride by he said: "Joven, a la carga" meaning: "Young man, let's charge!" This was around midday, and he was, as always, dressed in a black jacket, riding a white horse, which made him an easy target for the Spanish. The young trooper, Angel de la Guardia, lost his horse and returned to report the loss.

The Spanish took possession of the body, buried it close by, then exhumed the body upon realization of its identity. They are said not to have burned him because they were scared that the ashes would get into their throats and asphyxiate them. He is buried in Cementerio Santa Efigenia in Santiago de Cuba. Many have argued that Maceo and others had always spurned Martí for never participating in combat, which may have compelled Martí to that ill-fated suicidal two-man charge.

Occupy San Francisco’s “Day of Action” turned violent Friday night when protesters occupied an abandoned hotel and began throwing objects at police officers from the roof, police said.

“Once they gained access [to the hotel], some of them made it to the top of the roof and they then began to throw bibles down at the officers,” San Francisco Police Department spokesman Carlos Manfredi said.

“One of officers was struck with a brick to the chest and one of our lieutenants was struck in the hand with an object and may have damaged or even broken his hand,” he said.

New Docs Reveal How DOJ Kowtows to Muslim Brotherhood

Specifically, I asked for "records relating to the meeting of the 'Monthly Outreach Meeting' with Muslim and Arab groups at the Civil Rights Division. Specifically, include lists of attendees at each monthly meeting, the agenda of each meeting and any minutes or summary prepared subsequent to each meeting. Please also specifically note the meetings at which the Attorney General of the United States attended."

The principal impact of reading through the material is the sheer bulk of it. Hundreds and hundreds of pages of emails, documenting nearly daily friendly contact, consultation, cooperation and collaboration between the DOJ and Hamas-linked Muslim Brotherhood groups. One thing is clear, the Muslim Brotherhood has fully infiltrated command and control at the Department of Justice civil rights division.

Sheriff defends man who shot armed robber at SC Waffle House

Via Michael, L&P

It’s “another example of how a (concealed weapons permit) may save your life,” stated Spartanburg County Sheriff, Chuck Wright, after a concealed-carrier took down an armed robber and prevented another in a Waffle House full of customers. GoUpstate.com reports,

Sheriff Chuck Wright said he does not plan to charge the customer, who he says is “very upset” about the shooting.

During a news conference Saturday night, Wright said even after the masked men entered the restaurant, the concealed weapons holder waited until the robbers began ordering customers to the floor and employees into the back – while waving a gun – to act. After pulling his .45-caliber Glock, the customer ordered the men to stay put until deputies arrived. Only after Williams pointed his Hi-Point 9mm at the man, did the customer fire, Wright said.

“The way you get shot by a concealed weapons permit holder is you point a gun at him,” the sheriff said.

Even Michael Yon has reluctantly concluded that it is time to get out of Afghanistan:
This war is going to turn out badly. We are wasting lives and resources while the United States decays and other threats emerge. We led the horse to water.

Importantly, there is no value in pretending that Pakistan is an ally. We should wish the best of luck to the Afghans, and the many peaceful Pakistanis, and accelerate our withdrawal of our main battle force. The US never has been serious about Afghanistan. Under General Petraeus we were starting to gain ground, but the current trajectory will land us in the mud.

The enemies will never beat us in Afghanistan. Force on force, the Taliban are weak by comparison. Yet this is their home. There is only so much we can do at this extreme cost for the many good Afghan people. We must reduce our main effort and concentrate on other matters. Time to come home.

Sincerely,

Michael Yon
It's ten years late in my opinion, but nevertheless, he's correct. Tim Lynch concurs:
There it is; Afghanistan is toast, and what the last 10 years has taught us is we cannot afford to deploy American ground forces. Two billion dollars a week (that’s billion with a B) has bought what? Every year we stay to “bring security to the people,” the security situation for the people gets worse and worse, deteriorating by orders of magnitude. Now the boy genius has announced a “new strategy”. A strategy that is identical to the “strategy” that resulted in a hollow ground force getting its ass kicked by North Korea in 1950; a mere five years after we had ascended to the most dominant military the world had ever known.
As usual, the culprit is historical ignorance and the "this time it's different" crowd. Seriously, every time someone claims that "this time it's different" or "today's youth [fill-in-the-blank], they should be fitted with shock collars and zapped. Anyone who knows anything about military history or who has ever played a strategic wargame knows that it is much harder to hold onto territory than it is to grab it in the first place.

Vox's first rule of war: if you don't colonize, don't occupy.

The United States has been utilizing what may prove to be the most historically inept strategy in the entire history of warfare, in which the enemy nations are occupied while allowing its own territory to be colonized.

Letter To The Editor concerning Lexington

Via Bazz

Mon, 23 Jan 2012

Dear Editor:

It was my privilege September 1, to march into Lexington with H.K.
Edgerton, former President of the Asheville, North Carolina NAACP, as
he proudly carried his Confederate flag with Tarheel re-enactors into
the city where Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson await the
Resurrection. My latest Black friend was the invited guest of the
local chapter of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, a number of whom
also marched.

With a welcome and send-off from the Mayor of Buena Vista at Glen
Maury Park around 7 a.m. the long day ended after 11 p.m. with a vote
by Lexington City Council to ban display of the flags on city poles.
The intervening march took about three and a half hours and was
followed by a 6:00 Save Our Flags rally on Hopkins Green.

An overcautious police presence was never needed to protect those of
us who honor the flags of our Southern ancestors and was certainly
unnecessary to protect our neighbors from us. Another wasted taxpayer
expense springing from the out-of-touch paranoia of resident alien
City Council members forgetting they are no longer in the Northern and
Western states whither they transplanted.

Reporters from a number of local television stations and newspapers
stopped the entourage for interview, each immediately clamoring to
speak with Mr. Edgerton, almost exclusively. After all, White guys
a-marchin’ with “Rebel” flags ain’t news; they’re “all racists”
anyhow, as “everybody” knows. The man-bites-dog spectacle (to the
sheltered hothouse bumpkins in modern monotone media) was a Black man
singing Dixie and carrying a “symbol of racism”. This benighted
narrow-mindedness, of course, only reveals their own provincial
prejudice, bias, and bigotry.

Could anything be more racist than a blanket presumption that all
Black Americans must think alike about a given matter, in this
instance the Confederate flag? Is it reasonable for backwoods media
or sophisticated of hillbilly academia to assume that the entire Black
race must hold lockstep identical views on history as though incapable
of independent or critical thought? How broad-minded!

The ignorant underlying implication is that if one Black man in
America has his own mind about an issue that the Propaganda Ministry
was sure it already had nailed down, scramble the news trucks from
Roanoke—Quick!--to analyze the unfortunate aberration: “How dare a
Black man reach an independent conclusion not scripted for him? Why
doesn’t he get back in line and mind his place? Fetch him on back to
Consensus Plantation!”

The supreme irony is that this insulated plastic-bubble hypocrisy is
allowed to pass for liberality and enlightenment. Big Academia
(indoctrination) and Big Media (propaganda) have each other’s backs
and will choose which Americans of color are “right-thinking”
according to whether they “all look alike”. No runaways shall be
tolerated. My, my.

Swarming Mr. Edgerton as though he had just landed in a sleek
kryptonite saucer from beyond their solar system, every question the
press put to him was loaded with a stock social preconception and
brittle racial stereotype. Without exception each reporter-bot began
with the untenable flawed presumption that the Confederate flag equals
racism and, therefore, its inexplicable presence in his non-White
hands was somehow a contradiction of the laws of physics, a rip in the
time-space continuum.

In every instance where Edgerton explained his views in ways that did
not arm the media’s talking-points gun against him, the reporter
looked away disinterested or stopped scribbling notes. Camera down.
Quite obviously no “journalist” was there to understand a variant
point of view. They had come only to mine the man for sound bites they
could manipulate to bolster their own trite prejudice; to neatly
classify and tag a “new” and alien species; not to listen, never to
learn.

I saw the interviews firsthand as they occurred and saw what little
was left of them on television. Edited were Edgerton’s comments about
the honor of Black Confederate soldiers buried in Lexington’s
Evergreen Cemetery. On the cutting room floor went his outrage over
the bungled misplacement of the body of Jim Lewis, Stonewall Jackson’s
personal body servant, whose grave is unknown. Of no interest to the
press were his observations on the Christian interactions and
interventions with 19th century American Blacks to elevate their
station and teach them to read---even against the law. That didn’t fit
the narrative of postmodern revisionism, so you didn’t get to hear
those comments; unreported, unworthy your consideration. Media masters
back at the Manor will decide what Black Americans may care about and
which viewpoints they are allowed to hold. Thought-fugitives shall be
dealt with.

Natural Bridge was once tended by a man named Patrick who lived in a
cabin, sold tickets and guided visitors around the attraction. In
1815, Patrick (whose last name was Henry) rode into Lexington and
bought himself a slave girl named Louisa at auction. The following
year he married her. Mr. Henry was himself the property of Thomas
Jefferson who had the cabin built for this Black gatekeeper. But
Black slave masters in Rockbridge County also don’t fit the tidy,
simplistic worldviews that childlike professors, naïve reporters and
other dumbed-down contemporary hacks frantically wish were so, so why
trouble you with complicating realities? Just you mind your work and
leave all that to the Korrespondents, Kolleges and Kouncilmen.

The Staunton News-Leader’s “Confederate Flag Should Be Restricted” by
its editorial board restated the view of many ban supporters at the
Council meeting that though the Confederate flag has an honorable
history, its subsequent dishonorable misuse by some fringe groups so
taints it that it should be Rated R. This strange construct holds
that if bad people make an ill use of good things, evil should
triumph. Decent society should thus surrender to its basest elements
every noble thing the wicked can smear. In short, they demand that
the sons of the South should unconditionally surrender to the Ku Klux
Klan. But since when is negotiation with terrorists and capitulation
to hate groups the righteous option? Hate groups must never be
appeased! Who could dare suggest letting them win? Only liberals.

On September 8 a Delaware man woke to find on his lawn a cross-covered
with racial epithets, but there is no call for banning Christian
crosses or for Old Glory to be “restricted,” though the KKK regularly
misappropriates these. Shall we cut “Sic Semper Tyrannis!” from the
Commonwealth flag since Lincoln’s assassin once spoke the phrase? Why
is the flag of the Confederacy singularly subject to prohibition?

Moreover, the underlying premise that Americans of African descent
somehow aren’t discerning enough to rationally separate the objective
flag from its subjective abuses is patronizing, representing racist
bigotry at its most virulent.

Every American should take gross offense at the condescending notion
that a remedial paint-by-numbers version of history is provided at the
back of the educational short bus for Blacks, presumed benighted,
uneducable and incapable of telling a period flag from a Klan rally.
Does anyone believe Booker T. Washington or Martin Luther King, Jr.
would espouse this demeaning plantation mentality that “the poor old
Black man ain’t smart as Whitey,” requiring a booster seat at the
history table?

True equality means exactly that---no softballs, no grading on the
curve, no training-wheels for some races. It means every American
rolling up his own sleeves, doing the hard homework himself and
reaching his own conclusions. It means taking men as individuals
again, not as demographic blocs, Mayor Elrod.

Posturing over American slavery that ended 148 years ago is a lazy way
to evade doing anything costly about worldwide slavery today. A lot
of self-absorbed consciences have been stroked and hollow political
chests will be pounded about how “meaningful” the City Junta’s flag
ban imposed by 4 individuals on the city’s 7,000 citizens was as
democracy triumphant, etc. (Until they’re booted out next fall and
it’s all undone.) But not one thing has been done about over
27,000,000 slaves around the world who will labor under constraint
tomorrow if they survive this night as smug official Lexington pillows
her sanctimonious head on silks, congratulating herself for
prohibiting an historic flag on a bridge for one day next January.

It’s a cheap way of stealing acclaim for doing something significant
without having to spend a dime, get their hands dirty or sacrifice
anything. I suppose empty people have to grasp for what negligible
cover they can. No one will be talking or writing about---or even
remembering---them one-hundred fifty years from now, while history
will still be honoring Lee and Jackson. That’s exactly what galls
every insignificant bureaucrat about all true greats.

As Virginia’s Democratic Senator Jim Webb says, “To tar the sacrifices
of the Confederate soldier as simple acts of racism, and reduce the
battle flag under which he fought to nothing more than the symbol of a
racist heritage, is one of the great blasphemies of our modern age.”
When I marched into Lexington with two distinguished Black Americans
waving their Confederate flags, I walked with freemen not bound by the
chains of political correctness or shackled to historical ignorance.
Truth had set them free.

If Black Americans are free only to reach a single approved conclusion
they are no freer than Soviets with a single candidate on the ballot.
It is time to stop rounding down expectations for one race. History is
neither Black nor White, Blue nor Gray. What matters to us all is
that history be clear.

Rand Paul’s Pat-Down Standoff With TSA in Nashville Ends

Sen. Rand Paul told his communications director this morning he was being detained by TSA at the Nashville airport.

The Twitter account associated with Paul staffer Moira Bagley, @moirabagley, tweeted around 10 a.m., ET, “Just got a call from @senrandpaul. He’s currently being detained by TSA in Nashville.”

A TSA spokesman disputed that Paul was ever “detained.” But he was not granted access to the secure area of the airport when he tried to board a flight Monday morning.

The standoff was short-lived. By late morning, according to TSA, Paul had been booked on another flight and made it through the screening process.

The TSA version of events is that Paul triggered an alarm during routine airport screening and refused to complete the screening process (pat-down) in order to resolve the issue.

Ron Paul on son’s detention by TSA: ‘Police state’ is ‘growing out of control’

Republican presidential candidate and Texas Rep. Ron Paul issued a sharply-worded statement in reaction to the detention of his son, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, by Transportation Security Administration agents in Nashville on Monday.

“The police state in this country is growing out of control,” Paul wrote in a statement provided to The Daily Caller. “One of the ultimate embodiments of this is the TSA that gropes and grabs our kids and our seniors and does nothing to keep us safe.”

Paul has been a vocal critic of the TSA, and is the sponsor of the “American Traveler Dignity Act,” which would remove TSA agents’ immunity from prosecution for implementing invasive pat-down procedures.

In Paul’s Monday statement, he noted, “my ‘Restore America Plan,’ in additional to cutting $1 trillion dollars in one year, eliminates the TSA.”

When contacted by CagePotato in hopes to better understand the reasoning behind the less than popular decision, the UFC said only that “These are rules set in place by Fox” — who declined to comment.
