"Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable."

The Market Ticker
VERBATIM POST

And So It Begins (A Greek Call To Revolution)

Our government is a pack of fools.

They, like the Greeks, had the opportunity to take banksters and arrest them for their crimes, giving them a fair and public trial and then imprisoning them.

Instead they fell into league with them, engaging in hinky derivative deals and other scams, effectively being their co-conspirators.

And now, one man has taken his own life and left behind a note -- a call to revolution.

"The Tsolakoglou government has annihilated all traces for my survival, which was based on a very dignified pension that I alone paid for 35 years with no help from the state. And since my advanced age does not allow me a way of dynamically reacting (although if a fellow Greek were to grab a Kalashnikov, I would be right behind him), I see no other solution than this dignified end to my life, so I don’t find myself fishing through garbage cans for my sustenance. I believe that young people with no future, will one day take up arms and hang the traitors of this country at Syntagma square, just like the Italians did to Mussolini in 1945" the note said.

This reminds me of what John F. Kennedy (yes, President of the United States) once said:

"Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable."

Peaceful revolution is not yet impossible in the United States. But continued pandering to the banksters, covering up and refusing to prosecute their frauds along with the incessant whines from people like Geithner who prattle on about how government can borrow forever without regard to the cost whittle away at that margin.

Exactly where the corner is -- where the people of this nation, or those of Greece -- decide that peaceful revolution and reformation of their government and enforcement of the rule of law through political means has become impossible is in and of itself impossible to determine with certainty.

But that the corner exists is also known with certainty. It is just blind to all who look for it, as it comes in fickle form not born of reason but of emotion, fear and destitution.

History says that those who believe that the incessant screwing of the American people, or of any people, will be tolerated forever are wrong. Old men like this one will choose to take their own lives rather than scrape on the ground like dogs seeking a tiny scrap of food. But eventually, one of those old men will have a young son, and he will judge the injustices that he sees to be intolerable and that there is no longer recourse before the law. He will see the death of his father as a reason to take other lives -- the lives of those who he judges to be responsible. The spark of his father will fall on dry tinder and catch fire.

I pray, during this Holy Week, that our government and those across Europe recognize that we are long past the point where the entanglements with these banksters should have been unwound, the frauds prosecuted and the deficit spending stopped, for I do not wish to live in a nation where that spark has fallen onto a patch of dry grass, or worse, into a jar of gasoline.

Yes, unwinding these frauds, prosecuting them and halting the lies -- in short, facing that our governments cannot be all things to all people and must live within what they can tax in the present tense, will be difficult.

But it will be less difficult than the alternative.

The Coke Cowards

Hope this goes better than when we boycotted them over their Confederate Flag stance.

Via NC Renegade

We no longer live in an age of courage. This is especially true for the leaders of American corporations. They would have to improve tremendously to simply be cowards.

Coke has done it and I have purchased my last coke.

What is going on?

The left decided to launch a boycott of Coke and Wal-Mart because they are members of the America Legislative Exchange Council. ALEC is a great organization that helps get conservative laws passed primarily at the state level.

The Party of Treason along with some of the other usual far left suspects decided to boycott Wal-Mart and Coke because of their membership in ALEC.

ALEC does a lot of things but they have been very instrumental in helping get voter ID laws past. The Party of Treason is the prime mover for voter fraud in this nation. The Democrats follow the words of their hero Joseph Stalin, who said “It is not who votes that counts. It is who counts the votes.” With fraudulent voters, the Democrats make sure the votes that count are the votes that help them steal elections.

Wal-Mart stood firm against the boycott.

Coke, on the other hand, ran with full hysterical agitation, begging to surrender to the far left. Coke immediately announced its complete and unconditional surrender in a manner that would make the French proud.

There was a time when American corporate leaders actually acted like leaders. No more. Today business school eliminates any backbone a future executive might have. Once these now cowardly lions are released to the business world, as soon as they are confronted by some type of controversy, they stumble around like newly castrated cattle.

Just for once it would be nice to see a Corporate CEO show some spine, extend a middle finger to these far left groups and give a suggestion for them and the horse they rode in on.

Coke has the right to be cowardly.

We have the right to teach them a lesson in free market economics.

We are under no obligation to buy coke products. If Coke wants to be that way, we do not have to buy coke.

Pepsi has soft drinks and in some other parts of the country there are some regional alternatives. In the South we have RC Cola.

Boycott Coke products.

If they want to surrender to the far left, fine. But there are twice as many conservatives as there are liberals. Even among moderates, a lot of people understand the need for voter ID laws and support them.

Coke could have stood up and shown some courage. Instead they chose to surrender.

No more Coke.

Powerful: The Stories We Tell

Sultan Knish
VERBATIM POST

The story of the Naked Emperor is one of the most powerful stories we have because it is about the nakedness of our fictions, it is a story about the stories we tell, stories so widely accepted that they make the most naked lies possible.

Our bookstores and libraries have fiction and non-fiction sections, tightly delineating the difference between the two, and while it is polite to admire the authors in the fiction section for their inventive storytelling, it is riskier to go up to a New York Times journalist and compliment him for the same thing. But it is riskiest of all to treat a story that the media is telling us as nothing but a story.

That is something Stephanie Eisner, a cartoonist at the Daily Texan, a student newspaper at the University of Texas discovered, when she drew a little cartoon which depicted the Trayvon Martin case as a simplistic story being told by a maternal tabloid media to a gullible child. Accuse the storytellers of telling stories and they fight back with a story aimed at you. The story was that Eisner was a racist or as one student protest sign said, "The Daily Texan, Racist Since 1900". And how do you argue with that?

Racism is a very powerful story. Short of accusing someone of being a pedophile or a religious fanatic, it is the worst possible story that can be told about them. And unlike pedophilia or religion there is no defense against it. There is no way to disprove such a charge and therefore no exoneration from it. The suspense was brief, the ending was as predictable as any a hack writer could have written. Apologies were made all around, heads bowed to the floor, Eisner was purged, officially because she had used the word "colored" in a cartoon, a word that happens to appear in the name of the largest black organization in America, unofficially because she had called the whole thing a story.

Another word for storyteller is liar, but it's an inadequate word. A liar lies about a thing. A storyteller creates an entire narrative, a world that the listeners inhabit. He adds details to it, creates villains and heroes and convinces us to live in that world for a brief time or forever.

The Trayvon Martin tale is another story in the Big Book of American Racism. There are many stories in that book, some linger for decades, others vanish after a few weeks, but all share a common idea. That idea is that we are not all one country, nor are we northerners, southerners and westerners, or farmers and city folk-- we are black and white. Some of us are black and oppressed and some of us are white and oppressors. This is the other thing that stories do-- they make us see ourselves in a new way.

The story of racism says that all our other stories don't matter, the ones about Bunker Hill or the Fourth of July, Omaha Beach or the Tet Offensive. The only story that matters is the story of the slave ship, the plantation, the lunch counter and the hoodie. It says that we are no more than the sum of our skin, that our destiny is to be black and white, the well meaning oppressor and the angry slave, and that any society we create will forever be hobbled by that legacy. It says that we are forever damned by racism.

It is not a very good story, but it has a power of its own. If you are a black man looking for ways to understand the world, it is a compelling story. If you are an angry hipster, hoodie clad, drinking and listening to things ironically, but still fuming over more injustices than you can name, this story reinforces your view of the world. It says that the world of your parents of the men in suits, of the builders and breakers of the world, cannot be redeemed. It is damned to fall and out of it will arise a glorious cooperative of locally grown food, universal health care and brotherhood for all.

But if you are an ordinary sort of person who works for a living, who has no strong feelings on race, but a strong desire to be left alone, this story does nothing for you. It does not explain the world or tell you about yourself. It says that you are a bad person because of the color of your skin and that you unawareness of your own badness is a form of privilege which is racism. You are doomed because you are damned and damned because you are doomed. It may make you want to favor a black man, at the cash register or the voting booth, to show that you aren't that kind of person at all. And you may even force yourself to sit through an entire showing of Roots just to establish your basic decency. But the story has no real hold on you.

The Racism story is not a very good story for most Americans. Unlike Manifest Destiny or even that old one about George Washington chopping down a cherry tree, it does nothing for them. That is why it must be reinforced, told over and over again, until everyone is immersed in the tale from the moment they arrive at work to their sensitivity training session to the moment they get home and turn on the television to discover another report on racism.

The tale of Trayvon Martin is a catechism, it teaches the faithful to recite what they already know and urges the less devout to remember the tenets of this warped faith in the depravity of white men. Everyone knows the story. The details don't properly matter. Zimmerman's race, who hit who first, these are minor elements. What matters is that we remember the moral of the story. That we are bad.

The response to those who have challenged the story has been furious, because the story cannot be considered apart from its moral. To challenge the specifics of Trayvon Martin's lamb-like innocence or George Zimmerman's black, or white hispanic, racist heart, is an attack on the moral of the story. The storytelling moralists have responded to this heresy with all the subtlety and vengefulness of inquisitioners rooting out Daily Texan cartoonists and flashing new bulletins every hour that aim to prove some new element of the story.

In between commercial breaks for dog collars, allergy medication and cold cereal, experts are constantly appearing to analyze the 9-11 tape, Zimmerman's bruises or some other detail of the case, and pronounce that the Church of Racism is correct, that its priests have been accurate in every detail so that only sinners and fools would question its sovereign faith in Universal White Racism. But all the furious activity is accompanied by the barely suppressed anger and fear of con artists who worry that the sheep no longer believe a rocketship is coming to take them up to the post-racial comet.

They are right to be afraid because their story is not very good and it isn't well-liked. The only reason it has this much power is that a better one hasn't come along and all the old stories have been tucked away, stomped on and tossed in the trash. Each month the story must be renewed again, the racial passion play dipped in the blood of some designated victim, and then held up to the television cameras, as we cry, that his blood is on our hands.

That is what Obama meant when he said that we must search our souls, what he really meant was that he wanted to search our pockets. Once a mark has accepted his guilt, it is easier to pluck him. That is also the power of the story, it can make us focus on the story, rather than the reality around us. The story says that we are a racist country. The reality says that we are a bankrupt nation. Which are we to believe, our lying eyes or their bleeding hearts?

The story is constantly being told to insure that we never escape from its confines, that we never stop thinking outside the boundaries of the story, debating how racist we really are, rather than looking at the shambles that the storytellers have made of our economy. The threat of guilt and the promise of redemption at the heart of the story has lured us into a trap made of words and the story is retold to add more words, more bars, more weights and chains of letters to our hands and feet. The story has us trapped while the ruin continues around us.

They cannot give up on the story, because they know no other world but the one that they created with the story. It is an ugly world, but it is all they have, and in that hell they rule, rather than serve. Even if the tale of Trayvon Martin joins the legend of Tawana Brawley and the ballad of the Duke lacrosse team, there will be other stories. We are a large nation and the raw material of stories is out there. And they will be told as long as the words hold power over us.

That is the source of our weakness. Decency. It is our decency which lured us into the story. Our eagerness to prove that we are not bad people, that we may have made mistakes in the past, but that we have put those mistakes behind us. But the storytellers are not decent people. They are deeply and thoroughly corrupt. They understand decency as a weakness to be exploited. A self-righteous lie that we tell because we are as bad as they are. And so they play a game with us. They give us the chance to prove our innocence in a rigged game that always end in guilt.

This is the essence of the story. It is its purpose, its beginning and ending, and its soul. It is their most powerful story, but not their only story. Each day they tell us more tales, the same stories with a few details change. The foods that yesterday might have saved us, now doom us. A thousand dangers loom around us despite our every precaution. Everyone is bad, but the people reading us the stories. All the stories they tell us have one common element, they are meant to weaken us. They teach us to be afraid and to see no enduring truth or abiding point of safety except the storytellers.

The stories they tell shape our world. Some are more successful than others. But none of the stories can change reality. They cannot create jobs, restore wealth or make anything work. They are not magic stories. The stories are lies, their only power is the hold that they have over us. To fix the world, we have to step out of the story, leaving behind the narrative, disdaining its conceptual framework and its assumptions, and then confront the naked truth of the world before us. Only then will we have a story worth telling.

George Zimmerman decision coming soon?

- A decision could come in the next few days on George Zimmerman's fate. The state prosecutor is close to finishing up with her investigation.

Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch volunteer, shot and killed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin on Feb. 26 in a Sanford gated community. Zimmerman claims Martin physically attacked him after Zimmerman questioned why he was in the neighborhood. The two clashed in circumstances that remain unclear, which led to Zimmerman shooting the unarmed Martin, killing him. Though he was taken into police custody that night, he was never formally arrested and has not been charged with any crime.
The case has sparked outrage in central Florida and across the country.

The grand jury is just days away from convening and everyone wants to know what will happen to George Zimmerman? What will happen after the decision comes down?

Obama campaign video claiming 'it's on' in second term taken down

The Obama campaign apparently has taken down a web video that featured an actress touting the fact the incumbent president wouldn't "have to worry" about re-election in a second term.

The video on the Obama campaign site was first reported on Tuesday by a Daily Caller article. The video was subsequently unavailable on the site.

It follows an incident last week in which President Obama was overheard telling Russian President Dmitry Medvedev that he'd have "more flexibility" on missile defense and other issues after the election.

In the web video that was taken down, actress Tatyana Ali talked casually about the implications of the president's re-election.

"What really makes me excited about that is that a United States president only has two terms," she said. "In the second term, it's on" -- because they wouldn't have to worry about re-election.

Suggestion to consider removing Va. Confederate statues brings firestorm on council member

I don't guess we should be surprised since she is another braindead Hussein zombie spewing Marxist rhetoric.

"The South does have a proud heritage," Szakos said. "The heritage of those like my parents and others who fought for equal rights in the 1960s and still do today; the heritage of countless enslaved parents who taught their children to believe in themselves in a society that considered them property; the heritage of people who farmed and loved this land before the Europeans came ... I'm proud of our Southern heritage. So proud that it saddened me to see it reduced to two Confederate generals and the myth of the superiority of a proud, noble, slave-holding South, in which only a few held power."

A Charlottesville, Va., city council member decried what she saw as a "firestorm of vitriol and hatred" that came her way after she publicly floated the idea of tearing down Civil War statues.

In an emotional speech at Monday's council meeting, Kristin Szakos said she expected her comments at a Virginia Festival of the Book event last month to "ruffle some feathers" and start conversations, but she didn't expect the hatred directed toward her in online comments, emails and phone calls to her house.

More vomiting.

During the past two years, I immersed myself for the first time in national politics, serving as the Volunteer Coordinator for the Obama campaign. I helped to build an active volunteer force of more than 7,000 people in Charlottesville and Albemarle County, and worked hard to make sure everyone had a role and a voice in the campaign. I was elected to represent the Fifth Congressional District as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Denver. I served as Virginia coordinator for the National Day of Service sponsored by the Obama inaugural committee, and am an active volunteer with Organizing for America.

Barack Obama expressed the political sentiments that I had always felt: that we must act more out of hope than of fear; that we can disagree without being disagreeable; that we need new solutions to our problems – while holding to the old values of responsibility and respect; and that government should be open and transparent to all.

Sheriff Joe flays Fox News 'infobabe'

Arizona lawman Joe Arpaio reminded everyone why he’s considered “America’s toughest sheriff” when he took a Fox News anchor to task in a live interview this afternoon.

Appearing on “America Live” with Megyn Kelly, Arpaio told Kelly she was wrong in some of her reporting about a federal investigation into his treatment of Hispanics in Maricopa County, Ariz.

The U.S. Justice Department is looking into allegations of racial profiling, a charge Arpaio denies, and the federal government wants Arpaio to allow an independent monitor to oversee the conduct of his office.

The Obama administration announced it’s now preparing to sue Arpaio. The Justice Department has said negotiations have broken down with the sheriff, who also believes President Obama’s birth certificate and Selective Service card are likely forgeries.

Though Kelly never mentioned concerns over Obama’s eligibility in her interview, she did ask Arpaio why it would be a deal-breaker to have a federal monitor in his presence to make sure everything in his county office were “legit.”

Help Sheriff Joe blow the lid off Obama’s fraud. Join the Cold Case Posse right now!

“First of all, I’m the elected, constitutional, legitimate sheriff,” Arpaio said.

“I report to 4 million people in this county, and I’m not going to be controlled by the federal government because they don’t like the way I enforce the illegal-immigration laws. And it’s really interesting they’re cracking down right now. I presume we’re in an election year. You know this started three and a half years ago, 100 days after Obama took office, they went after me. I’m their poster boy.”

“But it started in 2008 under President Bush – the investigation,” Kelly interrupted.

“It did not. It started 100 days under Obama,” Arpaio responded.

Harry Reid Gets Owned by the Senate’s Parliamentarian; Senate Will Have to Do Its Job

Sen. Harry Reid, Democrat and majority leader, tried to get his hand-picked parliamentarian to rule that the Senate could not take up any budget resolutions this year. Not even “should not,” but could not, because of last year’s spending deal. The aim was to keep the Senate from having to vote on any Republican proposals, but more important, to keep it from having to vote on the president’s latest budget. That budget lost the House in a humiliating rout, 414-0. Reid’s gambit was a way to run interference for the president and shield him from reality. But the parliamentarian would have none of that.

Newly appointed Parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough, whom Reid recommended for the job, has decided that last summer’s deal on the debt ceiling and spending caps does not preclude the Senate from taking up other budget resolutions this year. The ruling could force vulnerable Democrats to cast tough votes that hurt them in November, a situation Reid and other leaders are eager to avoid as they work to protect their fragile majority.

Former Obama Student: Obama's Ignorance of Constitution Embarrassing

Prof. Thom Lambert of the University of Missouri Law School has responded with alarm to President Barack Obama's attack on the Supreme Court and the power of judicial review by recalling his own days as Obama's student at the University of Chicago.

Lambert, who writes for the "Truth on the Market" blog, not only studied under Obama, but also clerked for the federal judge who issued an order yesterday demanding that the Department of Justice clarify whether the government believed courts had the power to overturn constitutional laws.

Lambert wrote:

Thus, a Wall Street Journal editorial queried this about the President who “famously taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago”: “[D]id he somehow not teach the historic case of Marbury v. Madison?”

I actually know the answer to that question. It’s no (well, technically yes…he didn’t). President Obama taught “Con Law III” at Chicago. Judicial review, federalism, the separation of powers — the old “structural Constitution” stuff — is covered in “Con Law I” (or at least it was when I was a student). Con Law III covers the Fourteenth Amendment. (Oddly enough, Prof. Obama didn’t seem too concerned about “an unelected group of people” overturning a “duly constituted and passed law” when we were discussing all those famous Fourteenth Amendment cases – Roe v. Wade, Griswold v. Connecticut, Romer v. Evans, etc.

WSJ: Obama's Anti-Ryan Speech 'Political Fable'

The Wall Street Journal hammered President Barack Obama for vilifying House Budget Chairman Paul Ryan and trying to deceive American voters with a “list of untrue things.”

In an editorial Wednesday titled “Paul Ryan’s Hunger Games,” the paper ripped Obama for a speech to The Associated Press on Tuesday.

“This was a diatribe that managed to invoke ‘Social Darwinism’ and ‘a Trojan Horse’ in the same paragraph, amid the other high crimes that Mr. Obama says Paul Ryan wants to commit,” the WSJ said.

It added that Obama was trying to depict the Wisconsin Republican as “some political monster.”

Since Obama’s big initiatives have turned out to be unpopular and unsuccessful, he is reduced to demonizing everything Republicans do, the editorial said.

We are willing to lay down our lives for the cause of liberty

FULL TEXT of post, written by Brittany Hemsath:

We are not afraid to lose if losing means our integrity and principles remain with us. Our numbers have tripled this election... we have already won. We have spread the message of individual liberty far and wide. Ron Paul has inspired liberty movements in Africa, Europe, and even Korea. Only a third of American colonists believed that the American Revolution was necessary, and they changed the course of history forever. It is our turn now to do the same. An election outcome will not change that. We would lay down our lives for the cause of liberty if it were required of us, and it may be. I welcome losing if the winning team is not supporting the principles that this country was founded on. But, I will not go as a lamb to the slaughter and vote for someone who my heart, my gut, and reason tells me is wrong for this country. Like Patrick Henry said, "I know not what course others will take, but as for me, give me liberty or give me death."

Audio expert in Martin case demanded at least six similar voice exemplars in prior case

The big headline for the past several days has been that an audio expert hired by The Orlando Sentinel, Thomas J. Owen, had concluded that the person screaming for help on the 911 tape when a neighbor called in was not George Zimmerman because voice biometric analysis of the scream could only find a 48% match, and a much higher match (I’ve seen reference to 60% and 90% in different reports) would be needed.

The analysis was done comparing the Zimmerman 911 phone call voice with the voice on the separate 911 call from the neighbor.

Like the original ABC video tape supposedly showing Zimmerman uninjured, Owen’s analysis has caused a firestorm of pontification that Zimmerman’s self-defense argument was a lie and that Zimmerman executed Martin.

Tom Maguire has done an exellent job running down the various uncertainties with this type of voice analysis, as has Jeralyn at Talk Left, a criminal defense attorney who has used Owen as an expert in the past. The point of their numerous posts is not that Owen is wrong, but that caution must be used given the nature of voice biometric analysis which is not universally accepted and which may be subject to challenge in court as not sufficiently reliable as to be admitted in evidence.

Equally important, as Tom points out again today, such analysis normally is done using numerous similar exemplars from the subject, so that a subject saying “help” could be compare to the person on the tape saying “help.” In this case so far, however, there were no such exemplars, as an exemplar of Zimmerman’s voice screaming help was not taken so as to be compared to the 911 recording.

Van Jones Is A Wolf In Sheep's Clothing

The Excavator
VERBATIM POST

Van Jones, a former advisor to the Obama White House, bashed libertarians in a speech at an Occupy Wall Street event in L.A. in a shameless bid to hijack the still-maturing movement and turn it into a controlled political bloc.

It is obvious Jones is being tasked by his masters to keep the right-left scam going because there is a real danger to the establishment of the left and the right coming together to defeat the corrupt status quo.

Van Jones is using the popular platform of Occupy Wall Street to perpetuate anti-libertarian myths, root out anti-Democratic party activists in OWS, and keep the American people from unifying against the criminals who control Washington and Wall Street.

Van Jones stopped caring about the American people, economic justice, and the rule of law when he publicly renounced the 9/11 truth and accountability movement.

Van Jones said that libertarians are anti-American, anti-common people, and anti-freedom. Here is an excerpt from his speech:
"They say they’re Patriots but they hate everybody in America who looks like us. They say they love America but they hate the people, the brown folk, the gays, the lesbians, the people with piercings, ya know ya’ll."
Those comments are really bizarre and stupid. Libertarians are not racists or xenophobic. They support body piercings and any kind of individual expression, gay rights, individual rights, immigrant rights, and the values and principles that make America great.

Van Jones is clearly a demagogue just like the Commander-in-Chief, Barack Obama. He wants Obama to be re-elected, while posing as the champion of the people at Occupy Wall Street rallies. This is really disgusting.

Mike Riggs wrote at Reason.com, in response to Van Jones's anti-libertarian and anti-common sense speech:
"Mr. Jones. You’re not talking about so-called libertarians, but your former boss and current president. See, it’s Barack Obama who supports “traditional marriage”; Barack Obama who supports a drug war that sends an alarming number of black men to prison and destroys their employment prospects; Barack Obama who supports a foreign policy that kills children; Barack Obama who supports regulatory barriers that require the poorest of the poor to borrow their way into the workforce; Barack Obama who supports an immigration strategy that rips apart families and sees the children of undocumented workers put up for adoption."
That seals the case. There is nothing more to be said about Van Jones and his anti-libertarian tirade which is based on hate, ignorance, and intolerance.

What if Texas Were to Actually Secede?

Via Rebellion

What would happen if Texas went through with the idea Rick Perry likes to flirt with and actually seceded? NPR explored what that alternative reality would look like in an eight-minute story on All Things Considered Friday.

Austin-based correspondent John Burnett spoke to Tea Party members, academics, and political junkies to paint a picture of what a modern Republic of Texas would look like:

The former state has reinvented itself as a sort of Lone Star Singapore, with low taxes, free trade and minimal regulation. It enters the community of nations as the world’s 15th-largest economy, with vast oil and gas reserves, busy international ports, an independent power grid and a laissez-faire attitude about making money. …

Here’s our scenario: airports without the Transportation Security Administration; gun sales without the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; land development without the Endangered Species Act; new congressional districts without the Voting Rights Act; and a new guest-worker program without Washington gridlock over immigration reform. The new normal is a leaner government that bears little resemblance to the full-service nation it left behind.

Texas, in its second stab at independence, would not provide welfare or food stamps, some imagine. “There’s a safety net that’s always been out there. We don’t have that anymore. You will be a productive member of society and our environment doesn’t allow for people to not be productive,” Texas Tea Party member Katrina Pierson told Burnett.

“I always thought police were nothing but good and were there to protect people,” testifies Elizabeth Polak, a registered nurse from Phoenix. Her view of the State’s enforcement caste changed dramatically as a result of what she witnessed in Denver on the evening of March 25, 2008.

Polak, returning to her apartment following her daily jog, saw a man and a woman having an unremarkable conversation near the entrance to the building. Two police officers appeared – a development always pregnant with trouble – and approached the couple. From a distance of about 100 feet, Polak saw the officers stride purposefully toward the man, who was later identified as James Moore.

“The officers did not stop and have a conversation with Mr. Moore,” she later recounted in a sworn affidavit. “The officers walked up to him and instantaneously punched Mr. Moore. Prior to being punched, there was no resistance or non-cooperation on his part. Mr. Moore was not given the chance to comply with any orders, if any were given. It appeared that the police were on a mission to walk up to Mr. Moore and punch him.”

Shocked and terrified by the assault on Moore, the woman – his girlfriend, Julie Gomez – repeatedly exclaimed: “You have the wrong people!” Moore, who had been knocked to the ground, did what he could to avoid or deflect the blows directed at him by the assailants.
