Swiss army surplus field telephones: $19.95

Via SurvivalBlog

I want to pass along a recommendation for field telephones. Coleman's Military Surplus is selling Swiss army surplus field telephones (made by Ericsson) for $19.95 plus shipping. I have purchased some of these and have good luck with them.

They use a crank for ringing the bells and "D" cell batteries for voice transmission. They can also be hooked up in a common battery / switchboard set up if a person is lucky enough to have one. ---Matthew in Kansas City, Missouri.

Beck Offers $150K for Wright’s Secret Box on Obama

On Thursday, The Blaze released more exclusive audio of an interview (parts of which were first released by Sean Hannity) between “The Amateur” author Ed Klein and Reverend Jeremiah Wright. That book contains shocking allegations about President Barack Obama and the relationship he shared with the controversial preacher. Among the information in the book is Wright’s claims that: Obama saw the pastor as a “deterrent” to becoming president; neither Michelle nor Barack Obama truly embraced religion as “church was not their thing;” and that church served only as a political platform for the Obamas.

But most poignant of all, however, is that the audio reasserts the information that was leaked over the weekend: that Wright was offered a bribe of $150,000 by close Obama-friend Eric Whitaker to remain quiet and refrain from preaching until after the 2008 election. In addition to that, though, the controversial pastor also claims to have a cardboard box that contains proof of Whitaker’s offer, along with other items that would corroborate his story.

On his Thursday morning radio broadcast, Glenn Beck said that based on Wright’s history, it is clear he is not a man who has ever shied away from “telling the truth about who he is and what he believes in.” With this in mind, Beck made Wright an offer difficult to refuse: $150,000 for the contents of the cardboard box.

Will Wright accept the offer?

Evidence and “ultimately avoidable” legal irrelevancy released in Trayvon Martin case

Legal Insurrection
VERBATIM POST

A trove of documents was released tonight in the Trayvon Martin case. The big headline is that the police report prepared a month after the incident said it was “ultimately avoidable” if George Zimmerman never got out of the car. That’s legally irrelevant, as I’ll explain later.

First, the autopsy and other findings, summarized by The Orlando Sentinel:

The evidence — released by Special Prosecutor Angela Corey’s office late Thursday — includes a photocopy of a picture taken of George Zimmerman at the scene of the shooting. In it, he has a bloody nose.

Sanford Officer Michael Wagner pulled out his personal iPhone, he wrote in his report, and shot a photo of Zimmerman’s bloody nose. It appeared to him, Wagner wrote in his report, that Zimmerman’s nose was broken.

“I also saw that the back of Zimmerman’s head was also bloodied,” Wagner wrote.

Wagner downloaded the photo to his computer but never forwarded it to anyone else, he wrote, not until March 18, when he got word that the agency could find no photos of Zimmerman taken at the scene

Trayvon’s autopsy report is included in the released documents. In it, there is a diagram that shows the gunshot wound was approximately 3/8 inches across, and the “stippling,” powder burns that come as a result of a gunshot, was approximately 2 inches in diameter.

The burns are important because they prove the gun was fired from a very close range.

FDLE firearms expert Amy Siewert examined Trayvon’s gray sweatshirt and gray hoodie and wrote this about the gunpowder burns: “Both holes displayed residues and physical effects consistent with a contact shot.”

Translation: The gun was touching Trayvon’s clothing when Zimmerman pulled the trigger.

The bullet went through his heart, according to the report. The Volusia County medical examiner’s office pulled from Trayvon’s body one lead bullet core and two fragments, according to a Florida Department of Law Enforcement lab report. The report also showed a small “abrasion” on one finger on the other hand.

The autopsy report says there was THC — the active chemical found in marijuana — in Trayvon’s blood and urine.

Based on this description it doesn’t appear that Zimmerman “executed” Martin as some of the inflammatory rhetoric claims, unless there are details as to bullet trajectory which would indicate the shot was from above (indicating Zimmerman no longer was on the ground).

It’s legally irrelevant that the encounter could have been avoided if Zimmerman stayed in his car. The Stand Your Ground law talks about initiating physical contact in a very specific way (emphasis mine):

776.041 Use of force by aggressor.—The justification described in the preceding sections of this chapter is not available to a person who:

(1) Is attempting to commit, committing, or escaping after the commission of, a forcible felony; or
(2) Initially provokes the use of force against himself or herself, unless:
(a) Such force is so great that the person reasonably believes that he or she is in imminent danger of death or great bodily harm and that he or she has exhausted every reasonable means to escape such danger other than the use of force which is likely to cause death or great bodily harm to the assailant; or
(b) In good faith, the person withdraws from physical contact with the assailant and indicates clearly to the assailant that he or she desires to withdraw and terminate the use of force, but the assailant continues or resumes the use of force.

Getting out of the car, in itself, is not provoking the use of force. The prosecution would have to show Zimmerman started the fight, not merely that he was in a place he has a right to be.

Even so, Zimmerman would have had legal protection even if he initiated contact if the counter-force were deadly or threatened serious bodily harm and there was not way to escape. There would be a fact issue if, as some reports say, Zimmerman were on the ground being beaten.

These nuances will be lost in the media blitz, and you will hear how Zimmerman must be guilty because he got out of the car.

Again the caution, we know some more facts, but not all the facts.

Oh, sweet Trayvon™ was -- possibly -- high the night he died?

The Market Ticker

VERBATIM POST

Trayvon Martin, the 17-year-old who was shot and killed by a neighborhood watch volunteer, had the drug THC in his system the night of this death, according to new information obtained by ABC News.

....

The autopsy report shows traces of the drug THC, which is found in marijuana, in Martin's blood and urine.

Not metabolites, but THC itself?

The distinction is important. THC itself is metabolized within a few hours by the body; you cease being "high" when the THC has been processed. What remains, and is typically detected by cheap drug tests, are the metabolites of THC -- that is, the chemical byproducts that your body winds up with when it breaks down THC.

Those byproducts can stay in your system for a month or more, which is why you can get "busted" for smoking a joint two weeks ago on a drug screen.

But assuming the actual substance THC was found in the tox screen then we have a different situation -- Trayvon was probably actively high at the time he got into the altercation.

Why is this important? It's critically important! If you're drug-addled then you are not in your right mind -- by definition. And that, in turn, means your judgment is impaired. And one of the more-common side effects of marijuana use is paranoia. Maybe enough paranoia to lead you to attack someone who you think -- without any reasonable belief -- is "out to get you"?

Oh, and as for the witness statement who actually saw the assault?

One resident told the investigator that he heard a commotion and when he investigated, "he witnessed a black male, wearing a dark colored "hoodie" on top of a white or Hispanic male who was yelling for help. He elaborated by stating that black male was mounted on the white or Hispanic male and throwing punches "MMA (mixed martial arts) style." He stated he yelled out to the two individuals that he was going to call the police. He then heard a "pop." He stated that after hearing the "pop," he observed the person he had previously observed on top of the other person (the black male wearing the hoodie) laid out on the grass.

Gee, Trayvon was mounted on Zimmerman and punching him "Mixed Martial Arts" style? But but but..... he was shot in cold blood according to the media.

Hmmmm... and again, Martin had THC in his system.

So when Zimmerman told the dispatcher on the 911 call that he thought Trayvon "looked high", he was factually correct eh?

More when I can get to the (swamped and inaccessible) web site and get the document trove for myself.

Defense: Setting Your Priorities

In the last entry I explored a few ways to save a buck while building up your supplies of defensive materials – that good old Class IV. Now when it comes to defense planning and prepping there’s a million things to do and always the need for more material. And even if you did nothing else but plan and prepare there’s still not going to be enough time in the world to get everything done. Continuing with defense planning in this entry I’m going to explore one way of determining which things and what measures should come before others.

Why prioritize? Prioritizing your effort and resources is just plain common sense. It will normally allow you to get the best bang for your buck if you are faced with either limited time or resources. By establishing defensive priorities we can focus our efforts which hopefully will lead to the best compromise of defense vs. time vs. logistics (logistics in this case being what we have on hand in the way of material and capabilities). Prioritizing isn’t a one stop process either. It’s part of a cyclic process that is continuously reviewed based on several factors as a whole in the defensive planning process which will be the subject of the next blog entry.

To begin the prioritization process you have to list things you want to defend and figure out why you want to defend them. A good question here to ask yourself is “What things must I absolutely have to survive?”. Once you come up with those items that becomes your basic prioritization list. Here’s an example listed in my prioritized order:

Transsexual Freakazoid Becomes a "Neuter"

Moonbattery
VERBATIM POST

No matter how far moonbats push the envelope in the Culture War, they can be counted on to push it further still so long as they encounter no meaningful resistance. What's next after surgically and chemically mutating your body into a blasphemous simulacrum of the oppose sex? How about deforming yourself so that you have no sex at all:

Norrie May-Welby, 48, was born a man but had a sex change operation in 1990, at the age of 28.
After becoming unhappy as a woman, May-Welby decided to become a "neuter". The 48-year-old is now officially recognised as a person of no specific gender.

On the positive side, this is good news for the construction industry, as publicly accessible buildings will no doubt be required to add a "Neither" room between the Men's and Ladies' rooms.

Don't Let the UN Take Over Everything Over, On, In, and Under the Oceans

Since 1982 when then-president Ronald Reagan refused to sign the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, better known as the Law of the Sea Treaty (LOST), it has been kept on a legislative backburner awaiting a ratification vote in the U.S. Senate. Suddenly in early May, both Senator John Kerry, Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and Leon Panetta, Secretary of Defense, both announced that they were in favor of getting LOST ratified this year. According to some pundits, Kerry would have already scheduled hearings on LOST, but postponed them to avoid hurting the chances of key LOST supporter, Senator Richard Lugar (R-Ind.), in his primary face-off with tea-party-backed Richard Mourdock on May 8. It turns out that Lugar lost anyway. (Scroll down to view a short video of Dick Morris warning about LOST.)

So, now that Lugar's primary election is over,
Kerry says he will work hard to find the right time for holding hearings and a ratification vote this year. At this point, it's hard to predict when a ratification vote might occur. We have to expect it could occur as early as June and as late as a lame-duck session after the elections in November.

Most of the opposition to LOST is based on opposition to its creation of the
International Seabed Authority (ISA), which has been established to administer the natural resources of the seabeds and ocean floor. If the United States ratifies LOST, American entrepreneurs who mine the ocean floor would be required to pay substantial royalties to and share technology with the ISA, thus providing a revenue stream for an arm of the UN.

However, there is a much better reason to reject ratification.

Read this statement from an official UN document, "25th Anniversary of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea," Oct. 17, 2007:

The United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea ... is perhaps one of the most significant but less recognized 20th century accomplishments in the arena of international law.... Its scope is vast: it covers all ocean space, with all its uses, including navigation and overflight; all uses of all its resources, living and non-living, on the high seas, on the ocean floor and beneath, on the continental shelf and in the territorial seas; the protection of the marine environment; and basic law and order.... The Convention is widely recognised by the international community as the legal framework within which all activities in the oceans and the seas must be carried out. ("25th Anniversary of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea," Oct. 17, 2007; emphasis added.)

Notice that this UN document, which was posted by the UN's Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea, reveals that the UN’s understanding of LOST is that it gives the UN authority over everything, over, on, in, and under the oceans and seas of the world. That includes both military and economic uses. That’s why it is so important that the U.S. Senate does not ratify LOST.

And, remember under the UN division that administers LOST, our nation wouldn't have veto power like we do in the UN Security Council. We'd have just one vote among 163 votes.

Yes, 162 nations have already ratified LOST, and yes, the United States has already been implementing nearly every chapter of the Law of the Sea Treaty since it went into force in 1994 when 60 nations had ratified it. However, U.S. ratification would provide that final stamp of legitimacy for the UN’s power grab over the oceans and seas and constitute a major step into world government.

Therefore, we must hold the line.

Let your Senators know that they must not ratify LOST.

Miller And Obama Admitted Violators Of Oath

The list is long and distinguished, but includes Obama and Jeff Miller (R-FL-1), along with anyone else who supported the NDAA. From the courts:

MANHATTAN (CN) - A federal judge granted a preliminary injunction late Wednesday to block provisions of the 2012 National Defense Authorization Act that would allow the military to indefinitely detain anyone it accuses of knowingly or unknowingly supporting terrorism.

....

In a 68-page ruling blocking this statute, U.S. District Judge Katherine Forrest agreed that the statute failed to "pass constitutional muster" because its broad language could be used to quash political dissent.

....

"Section 1021 tries to do too much with too little - it lacks the minimal requirements of definition and scienter that could easily have been added, or could be added, to allow it to pass constitutional muster," Forrest wrote.

That's because there never was a care in the world about the Constitution. The entire point was to abuse people, much as it was during Kristallnacht.
