The Obama Economy: Wrong Ideas Have Dreadful Consequences

Mike Scruggs

In 1948, Richard M. Weaver, published a book called Ideas Have Consequences. Weaver (1910-1963), a professor of English at the University of Chicago until his death, is thought by many scholars to be among the top two American conservative philosophers in the mid-twentieth century. His book outlines the decline of Western culture and the ability to think clearly that has resulted from the dominance of scholastic philosophies rejecting the notion of absolute truth. Sound logic must be based on the solid stepping-stones of truth. When people replace absolute truths with relative truths, they have short-circuited logic and are no longer able to make intelligent distinctions and decisions. Their value system, insight, and moral clarity become distorted. They are often unable to recognize truth and become hostile to it. Thus they fill their decision-making processes with a distorted factual base and irrelevant garbage.

Weaver believed the decline in intelligent thinking had been hastened by radio, Hollywood, and television and had become so entrenched that finding our way out of the accumulated maze of falsehood, illogic, and nonsense would be extraordinarily difficult. Before you can fix a problem, you need to recognize there is a problem.

Weaver was also the author of The Southern Tradition at Bay: A History of Postbellum Thought, published five years after his death in 1968. As a traditionalist conservative, he was a strong advocate of private property rights. He believed secure property rights were essential to the individual economic security necessary to resist the growing Behemoth of institutionalized bullying that forced people into habits of uncritical and unintelligent thinking. This bullying now thrives under the Marxist concept of “political correctness.”

I have not yet met anyone from Weaverville, North Carolina, who knew who Richard Weaver was. Yet this highly regarded conservative philosopher was born there. It is symptomatic of the times that the memory of such an advocate for straight-thinking truth has been swept under the rug.

Returning to the consequences of uncritical thinking, grinding bad data through a chain of false logic naturally yields unintelligent decisions—whether you are dealing in economic, social, military, foreign policy, or ethical matters. Not surprisingly, unintelligent decisions often yield dreadful consequences. This is especially true, if you are President of the United States and fancy yourself a Supreme Dictator entitled to overrule law, tradition, and Constitution.

Neither historical evidence nor sound logic support the notion that governments can grow jobs by taxing the rich or printing or borrowing money. Taxing the “rich” will actually fall mostly on hardworking small business owners who bear many business risks and put in long workdays. To reap the benefits of the “envy vote” the president is harnessing our most productive people with new disincentives to grow and hire.

If President Obama really wanted to relieve the devastating pain of unemployment and underemployment, he would not have (unlawfully) granted administrative “dream” amnesties to between one and three million illegal immigrant workers who claim to be under age 36. It is callous to speak of creating jobs, when more than 23 million Americans—nearly 15 percent of the labor force—are unemployed or have been forced to part-time work because of economic conditions; yet a large portion of the over 8 million illegal immigrant workers in the United States are being given an administrative amnesty to compete with these unemployed. Is this is not a perfect example of either logical nonsense or callous political corruption?

One of the largest and best examples of wasteful and corrupt government spending in U.S. history, was the $535 million stimulus loan to the Solyndra solar panel company. The company was already nearing bankruptcy, when the loan was made, and soon proceeded to belly-up, leaving U.S. taxpayers $535 million poorer. This is what frequently happens when the government steps in to pick economic winners and losers. The Obama administration has spent trillions on so-called stimulus measures, but there has been no increase in real jobs. Government stimulus money is essentially a political shell game. It gives taxpayer or borrowed money to political friends at the expense of everybody else.

Can the American people discern political doubletalk from sound policy? Or are we going to bury the American Republic and the American economy because we can no longer distinguish truth from lie? Has rejection of absolute foundational truths and tradition blinded us to our danger?

Perhaps our greatest danger is our foolish indifference to the trillions of dollars of long-term debt obligations being run-up by the Obama administration. Our national debt is already nearing $14 trillion and growing by more than $1 trillion per year.

Such unchecked government spending has led to hyperinflation in the past. World War I spending caused 140 percent inflation in Germany from 1914 to 1918 but had begun to stabilize by 1919. However, by 1921 the newly elected democratic socialists of the Weimar Republic had made boundless promises of social benefits, expanded education systems, higher wages, reduced hours, and more vacation. Inflationary spending soon resulted in continuous devaluations of the German Mark. By early 1922, the Germans had slipped down the slope of hyperinflation. A German-born American told how his father had bought a 20-year life insurance policy in 1903 and made his monthly payments faithfully. In early 1923, when he cashed it in, he was only able to buy a loaf of bread with it. By late 1923, it took 200 billion marks to buy a loaf of bread.

Millions lost their savings, income, and all hope. Many and bitter are their stories. At the roots of their misery were politicians who used more and more government spending to get elected. President Obama’s economic ideas are wrong and could have grave consequences.

Moses Ezekiel: student, soldier, sculptor, knight

The Civil War profoundly affected everyone who fought in it. In one way or another, it shaped who they became. As Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr. later pronounced: "In our youth, our hearts were touched by fire."

There was perhaps no better example of a youth touched by war's fire than a Richmonder who went on to international acclaim as a sculptor. Born in 1844, one of 14 Jewish children, Moses Jacob Ezekiel came from humble origins. He received a basic education but left school to work in a local store. Nevertheless, at the beginning of the Civil War, Ezekiel decided to finish his learning by attending college.

He chose the Virginia Military Institute because of its willingness to accept him despite his weak academic preparation and, as he later stated, because of his own desire to defend his native state. A member of the Class of 1866, he was the first Jew to attend VMI.

Ezekiel's cadetship was typical, yet atypical. Being Jewish, he received special attention from tormentors in the upper classes, but he later stated that he resisted their attempts at physical abuse. What distinguishes the experience of Ezekiel and his fellow cadets was an event unique in the annals of American colleges and universities.

* * * * *

In May 1864, a Union army under Franz Sigel moved southward through the Shenandoah Valley intending to capture Lynchburg, a vital Confederate transportation hub.

Rebel commander John C. Breckinridge assembled a makeshift army to stop Sigel. Needing every musket he could gather, Breckinridge reluctantly asked VMI Superintendent Francis H. Smith to have the cadet corps join him to serve as a reserve.

The 256 cadets, including Ezekiel, practically raced 81 miles to join Breckinridge near the town of New Market just as Sigel's army approached on May 15. The ensuing battle ebbed and flowed, but when Breckinridge's line wavered and a breach opened, the Confederate commander did something he had dreaded. "Put the boys in," he ordered, "and may God forgive me."

In a remarkable display of discipline and courage, the VMI lads formed up in perfect order and surged forward, Ezekiel among them. Union artillery and musket fire tore into their ranks, but the cadets kept advancing. A few minutes later when the smoke had cleared, the boys had captured a Union cannon, along with a number of blue-clad soldiers, helping turn the battle into a Confederate victory.

Ezekiel emerged from the ordeal unscathed, but the cost was heavy — 10 cadets dead or mortally wounded and 47 wounded. Among them was his roommate, Thomas Garland Jefferson, who died two days later in Ezekiel's arms. He never forgot that frightful experience. For the remainder of the war, Ezekiel served with other cadets training Confederate recruits and draftees in Richmond, and in the trenches of Petersburg.

In 1866, he finished his degree at VMI. He went on to become one of the school's most distinguished graduates in a field rarely associated with his alma mater. As a cadet, he had displayed unusual artistic talent. According to some accounts, Robert E. Lee, president of neighboring Washington College after the war, urged Ezekiel to pursue those skills.

* * * * *

Heeding Lee's advice, Ezekiel moved to Cincinnati and then Berlin to study sculpture at the Royal Academy of Art. Once established as an artist, he moved to Rome and opened a studio. During his career, he produced more than 200 works and won numerous prizes and honors, including a knighthood from King Victor Emanuel of Italy.

Sir Moses never forgot his native Virginia and his alma mater. When he died in 1917 during World War I, his body was temporarily entombed in Rome. Four years later, it was interred in the Confederate Memorial section of Arlington National Cemetery. Despite his fame as an artist, his gravestone reads: "Moses J. Ezekiel, Sergeant of Company C, Battalion of Cadets of the Virginia Military Institute."

Before his death, Ezekiel donated one of his most significant works, "Virginia Mourning Her Dead," to VMI. Often referred to as the "New Market Monument," six of the 10 cadets killed in battle lie near its base, including his roommate.

Eleven other statues of his can be found on the grounds of the Norfolk Botanical Garden. Exposed for years to the elements, these statues, portraying famous artists and sculptors, have been designated as one of 10 of Virginia's Most Endangered Artifacts by a program sponsored by the Virginia Collections Initiative and the Virginia Association of Museums.

How fitting it would be to restore these statues to their original glory during the Civil War sesquicentennial. Virginia's most famous artist and Civil War veteran deserves no less.

Proof! Establishment media controlled

Via midnightrider

There was a rather low-key confession made in the New York Times last week that deserves to be blared throughout this country so that every American understands what they are reading in the establishment’s ultra-controlled, government-managed “press” – and I use that last word loosely indeed.

The admission came in the form of a story by Jeremy Peters on the politics page of the Times July 16. I’ve been waiting for others to point it out, discuss it, debate it, express shock and exasperation over it. But I’ve waited for naught.

What this shocking story reveals is that even I – one of the kingpins of the new media and a refugee from the state-controlled spin machine – underestimated the utter and total corruption of the euphemistically called “mainstream press.”

It shows that most – not some – members of the print media establishment with access to the White House submit their copy to government officials for review, “correction” and approval before it reaches the American people!

Even “progressive” WND columnist Ellen Ratner agrees – media under a spell!

Here are some key excerpts from the piece, if you think I’m exaggerating:

  • “The quotations come back redacted, stripped of colorful metaphors, colloquial language and anything even mildly provocative.”
  • “They are sent by e-mail from the Obama headquarters in Chicago to reporters who have interviewed campaign officials under one major condition: the press office has veto power over what statements can be quoted and attributed by name.”
  • “Most reporters, desperate to pick the brains of the president’s top strategists, grudgingly agree. After the interviews, they review their notes, check their tape recorders and send in the juiciest sound bites for review. The verdict from the campaign – an operation that prides itself on staying consistently on script – is often no, Barack Obama does not approve this message.”
  • “Now, with a millisecond Twitter news cycle and an unforgiving, gaffe-obsessed media culture, politicians and their advisers are routinely demanding that reporters allow them final editing power over any published quotations.”
  • “Quote approval is standard practice for the Obama campaign, used by many top strategists and almost all mid-level aides in Chicago and at the White House – almost anyone other than spokesmen who are paid to be quoted. (And sometimes it applies even to them.) It is also commonplace throughout Washington and on the campaign trail.”
  • “Many journalists spoke about the editing only if granted anonymity, an irony that did not escape them.”
  • “From Capitol Hill to the Treasury Department, interviews granted only with quote approval have become the default position. Those officials who dare to speak out of school, but fearful of making the slightest off-message remark, shroud even the most innocuous and anodyne quotations in anonymity by insisting they be referred to as a ‘top Democrat’ or a ‘Republican strategist.’”
  • “Those [reporters] who did speak on the record said the restrictions seem only to be growing. ‘It’s not something I’m particularly proud of because there’s a part of me that says, Don’t do it, don’t agree to their terms,’ said Major Garrett, a correspondent for The National Journal.”
  • “It was difficult to find a news outlet that had not agreed to quote approval, albeit reluctantly. Organizations like Bloomberg, The Washington Post, Vanity Fair, Reuters and The New York Times have all consented to interviews under such terms.”

Ban Theaters!

And schools and malls. Too many people being shot there.

While you are at it, fire the 12 police officers that were supposed to defend the 12 dead people at that movie theater. You know - "You don't need a gun the police will protect you."

"One armed Citizen wouldn't have made a difference..."

Yeah, right.

How many blogs have you read that bullshit on today?

I've seen it from "SF" vets and LEO and "NRA Instructors" about how John Q. Public simply wouldn't have had the skill to "make that shot."

Fucking elitist idiots. Every time you open your fucking mouth with that garbage you support the "Let's make everyone take a course before they can exercise 2A" argument that WILL BE part of the post-election political onslaught.

You take ANY SINGLE MAN OR WOMAN in that theatre who cleared leather and started dumping a single-stack magazine at the shooter/muzzle flashes in the aisle and you would have changed his Laissez-faire attitude right fucking now and gave more people the chance to clear the exits. You just fucked up his shooting of fish in a barrel. You changed the paradigm. Then you reload, close the gap and kill him or he kills you. If you are still alive when you get to him, reload and empty your weapon again.

You want X Ring perfection, stay on the fucking course shooting paper and self-righteously shouting "EYE-PRO/EAR-PRO" to the guy who chooses not to wear glasses and muffs while shooting.

But don't you dare push the meme that "only the trained/best/LEO/vets" even had a chance in that theatre you pompous fucks.

20 citizens laying down a field of fire would have ended Holmes like Bill Nye's frog that has been dissected too much - a mushy cold cut. Yes, there may have been some friendly fire. Yes, it would have still been bad. Yes, shots would have gone wide.

I swear to All that is F'n Holy I hate you pompous "I'm a trained shooter and thus better than you" assholes more than I even hate the Constitution-breaking LEO.

You are supposed to know better.

You are just as elitist as the "Only Ones" with your state-approved carry permission slip in your wallet. You think you are Free? You think you are better than the guy who straps up in a No-Gun zone against the laws, and you know you do. You pay to play, and then you look down at those who learned to shoot from Uncle Tom rather than your beloved card-carrying NRA Instructor or Drill Instructor. You look down at the guy who refuses to ignore buying the permits to carry.

Your shit stinks, too - and worse than many Useful Idiots.

Law & Order fucks. You are 60% of the problem in this country.

Federal officials waging war upon a State are guilty of treason against that State according to the US Constitution.

Foreign observers of the War Between the States like Edward Dicey clearly saw the conflict as between to cultures and countries, brought to arms by the failure of a written Constitution which was admittedly only an experiment in free government. A collection of agreed upon compromises from 1787 had by 1861 fully unraveled; the reluctance of the radical Republican party in the North to reach political compromise with the South led to the war and end of the Founders’ republic. As noted below, only a State legislature may determine if insurrection exists and then allow federal troops within its borders to help quell it; federal officials waging war upon a State are guilty of treason against that State according to the US Constitution.

Bernhard Thuersam, Chairman
North Carolina War Between the States Sesquicentennial Commission

"The Official Website of the North Carolina WBTS Sesquicentennial"

A Constitution Found Wanting:

“Throughout almost all English speculations on American affairs, there runs a constant assumption that the United States Government resembles our Old World Governments, and possesses unlimited powers of action, if only it chooses to exert them. Now the truth is that, by the very nature of its Constitution, the powers of the government are so strictly defined that in all cases not provided for by the express letter of the law it has no authorized means of action.

Thus in Europe, the refusal of the Federal Government to recognize formally the fact that the Confederates were belligerents appeared dictated by a childish reluctance to acknowledge and unwelcome truth. In reality, it was constitutionally impossible for the North to admit the belligerent character of the South.

The Federal Government has power by the Constitution to suppress an insurrection in the supposed interest of the insurgent State – it has no power whatsoever to make war upon a State. In order to keep within the Constitution, it was essential for the Federal Government to assume the theory that the insurgent States still form part of the Union. Yet the adoption of this theory involves inconceivable difficulties in practice.

If the States are still within the Union, they must be dealt with by the laws of the Constitution. Thus, to quote one simple instance, the insurgents must be tried in their own State, by a jury taken from the State, and no Southern jury would ever convict an insurgent of treason.

Again, all taxes, by the Constitution, must be uniformly imposed on all the States. It would be therefore impossible, if the war was over, to tax the insurgent States, so as to make them bear the expenses of the war. These are not theoretical difficulties, but practical and pressing ones.

If the broad principle is once admitted that the welfare of the Commonwealth overrides all State interests and justifies any stretch of power, then the [Constitutional] doctrine of State rights is virtually defunct in the North as well as in the South….

Added to all this, the whole nation has been taught, so long and so sedulously, that the Constitution is the great bulwark of their liberties – the grandest triumph of legislative power, that they cannot yet, and dare not yet, realize the truth, that this Constitution has been tried and found wanting.”

Camp Grayling MI

Via Michael

The message below was sent to three of the people in charge of our group.
A few days I ago I mentioned I was told of an unconfirmed incident that took place at (Camp?) Fort Grayling MI where up to 9 nine guardsmen walked out of their two week required service because the exercise was based on training for containment of civil unrest, gun confiscation and use of force if necessary against US citizens. I worked today but when I got home I had a message from my contact in MI that I would be contacted by someone who could confirm that and more. A short while later I got a contact name and a phone number. I spent over an hour on the phone with a gentleman who retired after 27 years in the service and did a tour of Iraq and Afghanistan before getting out. He is currently a licensed federal firearms dealer and firearms trainer and owns his own business. Because of where he is located a lot of local and federal law enforcement do business at the gun shop and train and qualify at the range their. He still has many contacts both in and out of the military.

Basically he confirmed that the training did take place and is in fact taking place at multiple locations across the US even if the action they are training for is Unconstitutional which is what caused the servicemen in question to walk out on their 2 week training requirement. Those that walked out were older men up tot he rank of staff sergeant so had been in the guard for some time. He offered me the names of 3 three of them and offered to arrange contact with them but they are laying low right now because refusing orders and walking out on the training requirement probably means they are at least down with the Guard and they do not know if any charges will be brought up. I told him I did not want the names for now but would consider talking to a couple of them if they agreed to do so.

He also told me he had been told of total force training that had taken place at Fort McCoy in WI that was made up of groups from all branches with FBI and DHS involved as well based on civil unrest and containment. As I said the conversation lasted over an hour where I mostly listened but he covered a lot of scenarios that I won't bother to put in writing in this email. I do not know this person personally and while I take some of his intel with a grain of salt nothing he said is so far out there not to be believable. I will cover more next time I get to talk to any of you in person and until then like the gentleman told me "Keep below radar and watch your six."

Colo. Gov. Hickenlooper: More Laws Would Not Have Stopped Tragedy

Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper said no law could have prevented suspect James Holmes from carrying out the act of terror that rocked an Aurora movie theater early Friday morning and left 12 dead.

“This person, if there were no assault weapons available, if there were no this or no that, this guy’s going to find something. Right? He’s going to know how to create a bomb. Who knows where his mind would have gone. Clearly a very intelligent individual however twisted. That’s the problem, this is a human issue in some profound way,” Hickenlooper said during an interview on CNN's "State of the Union."

“The people around him had no idea that this was something he was capable of,” said Hickenlooper.

“How do you prevent this?” Hickenlooper asked host Candy Crowley.” “How do we preserve our freedoms…and all those things that define this country, and yet try to prevent something like this [from] happening? Let me tell you, there’s no easy answer. There isn’t.”

The governor described the suspect as a “deeply troubled, twisted, delusional person.”

“I am speechless,” he said. “I can’t conceive of a motive. In a funny way, this guy is a terrorist, right? For whatever twisted reasons that we can barely even imagine, he wanted to create terror. He wanted to put fear in people’s lives.”

Two Aurora Shootings: One Widely Known; the Other Ignored

Church Shooting Denver

On April 22 of this year a convicted felon, just out of jail, went to an Aurora, Colorado, church and shot and killed a member of the congregation before being killed himself by a congregant carrying a gun.

On July 20, following the horrific shooting at a movie theater in Aurora, President Obama offered his condolences to the victims of the more recent tragedy. "Our time here [on Earth] is limited and it is precious," the president said. "And what matters at the end of the day is not the small things, it’s not the trivial things which so often consume us and our daily lives. It’s about how we choose to treat one another and how we love one another."

Obama then led his supporters at a rally in Fort Myers, Florida, in a moment of silent prayer “for all the victims of less publicized acts of violence that plague our communities every single day.”

No doubt the president was unaware of the other, less-publicized lethal shooting that took place earlier in the year in Aurora, when there was only one victim, thanks to the quick thinking and action of a responsibly armed individual. Aurora police spokesman Frank Fania asked rhetorically: “Who knows what would’ve happened if the [church member, an off-duty police officer] had not been there? It certainly could have been a lot worse.”

How much worse? Could the killing spree have been as bad as the shooting at the movie theater, where a dozen victims lost their lives? Thankfully, we'll never know.

The killer in the April shooting was 29-year-old Kiarron Parker, who had just been released from prison. He had been convicted for assaulting two police officers, drug abuse, and breaking and entering. The details are here and here. But the point is clear: Because the perpetrator was able to claim only one life before being killed himself by someone carrying a gun and acting in self-defense, it garnered relatively little publicity.

In contrast, by now there may hardly be a single sentient soul in the country who doesn’t yet know what happened on Friday, July 20 at about 12:38 a.m., when James Egan Holmes opened fire on a theater full of people attending the premier of the latest Batman movie, killing 12 individuals and wounding at least another 50.

NPR Uses Its Taxpayer Funds To Hire Lobbyists To Retain Its Taxpayer Funding…

Via The Hill:

National Public Radio has hired the lobbying firm Navigators Global, according to disclosure forms filed Thursday.

NPR has come under fire from some Republican lawmakers who want to cut off all federal funding to the nonprofit media organization.

Dana Rehm, an NPR spokeswoman, explained that in addition to being a national radio service, NPR is also a trade organization representing its local member stations. She noted that no federal funds are being used to pay for the lobbying firm.

Colorado Batman shooting shows obvious signs of being staged

Via The Feral Irishman

(NaturalNews) James Holmes, the Aurora, Colorado shooter who reportedly opened fire at a Batman movie premiere, was a medical student at the University of Colorado, pursuing a PhD in neuroscience, reports ABC News. (http://abcnews.go.com/US/mass-shooting-colorado-movie-theater-14-peop...)

As part of the attack, Holmes painted his hair red and referred to himself as "The Joker," one of the arch enemies in the DC Comics-inspired Batman movie series. (http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2012/07/20/police-14-dead-in-colorado-the...)

According to news reports, this sudden violent rampage was completely out of character for James Holmes, who was described as "shy."

The New York Times is now reporting:
Billy Kromka, a pre-med student at the University of Colorado, Boulder, worked with Mr. Holmes for three months last summer as a research assistant in a lab of at the Anschutz Medical Campus. Mr. Kromka said he was surprised to learn Mr. Holmes was the shooting suspect. "It was just shocking, because there was no way I thought he could have the capacity to do commit an atrocity like this," he said. (http://www.nytimes.com/2012/07/21/us/colorado-mall-shooting.html?page...)

"He spent much of his time immersed in the computer, often participating in role-playing online games..."

There is already conjecture that James Holmes may have been involved in mind-altering neuroscience research and ended up becoming involved at a depth he never anticipated. His actions clearly show a strange detachment from reality, indicating he was not in his right mind. That can only typically be accomplished through drugs, hypnosis or trauma (and sometimes all three).

False flag operation?

Do I think that this was the case? No, but I would not be surprised at anything the government did.

Oleg Volk
VERBATIM POST

For years, many Australians claimed that the 1996 Port Arthur mass shooting was a false flag operation. This week, many Americans are saying the same about the Aurora, CO mass murder. Not having enough information about either, I can’t say if those views are accurate. We should, however, consider something about our lovely federal creatures: Fast and Furious was very much an false flag operation with hundreds of murders to show for it. So before anyone says “how could you even think that people would do something like that?”, let me point out that they have done something like that — on a grand scale — already and got caught. Any sufficiently noticeable terrorist event now be viewed as a possible US government agency plot for influence or some other gain. A bit like the Waco church massacre done to get a larger budget for BATF. That’s quite a PR problem for the leaders of the free world.

Three heroes died in Aurora taking bullets for their girlfriends

In final acts of valor, Jon Blunk, Matt McQuinn and Alex Teves used their bodies to shield their girlfriends as accused madman James Holmes turned the Aurora cineplex into a shooting gallery.

Three survivors of the Colorado movie-theater massacre escaped with minor wounds, but were left with broken hearts because their heroic boyfriends died saving them.

In final acts of valor, Jon Blunk, Matt McQuinn and Alex Teves used their bodies to shield their girlfriends as accused madman James Holmes turned the Aurora cineplex into a shooting gallery.

Blunk’s girlfriend, Jansen Young; McQuinn’s girlfriend, Samantha Yowler; and Teves’ gal pal Amanda Lindgren made it out of the bloodbath — but they would have been killed had it not been for the loves of their lives.

“He’s a hero, and he’ll never be forgotten,” a tearful Jansen Young told the Daily News of Blunk. “Jon took a bullet for me.”

She was too distraught to speak more, but her mother called Blunk, 25, who had two young children from a previous relationship, “a gentleman.”

“He was loving, the kind of guy you want your daughter to be with, and ultimately, she’s alive because of this, because he protected her,” Shellie Young said.

She said Blunk, a security guard, had served in the Navy and had recently filled out papers to reenlist with a goal of becoming a Navy SEAL. “To her, he was a hero anyway because he wanted to serve his country,” she said of her daughter, who was left with shrapnel wounds to her side. “He said that all the time: ‘I was born to serve my country.’”

Jansen Young, 21, said Blunk took her to see Friday’s midnight premiere of “The Dark Knight Rises” to celebrate her graduation from veterinarian school. As the black-clad killer burst into the theater and unleashed tear gas and a torrent of indiscriminate gunfire, Blunk selflessly protected his girlfriend.

He pushed Jansen on the ground and under her seat, then threw his body on top of her, the mother said. “He was 6-feet-2, in incredible shape, which is why he was able to push her down under the seats of the theater,” the mother said. “He pushed her down on the floor and laid down on top of her and he died there.”
