WHITE HOUSE INSIDER: Bill Clinton vs Valerie Jarrett Backstage At DNC

Via WRSA

Backstage, Bill says something like, “He wanted to break my hand.” He’s laughing it off. -WHI

Here is our latest interview with a longtime D.C. political operative. This interview was conducted via a series of messages both to and from the figure we simply refer to as Insider. In order to share with readers as quickly as possible, this interview has not been edited , so apologies for it’s somewhat brief and/or broken up nature.

UM: Final thoughts on the DNC convention?

WHI: Bill was great. Everyone else just ok. Obama fell flat.

UM: Do you think President Clinton’s speech will help Obama?

WHI: No. And I will try and explain why but do it briefly as I don’t have much time. Got a flight to catch. What Clinton did was a clever Lloyd Bentsen rehash. Kind of in reverse. Or first person take on it. And it was brilliant. Thank you very much.

UM: Sorry to bother you with a follow up to that but what do you mean? Lloyd Bentsen?

WHI: The VP candidate back in ’88. The debate with Quayle. Bush I era. Look it up.

UM: Know who Bentson was. But regarding Obama and the DNC????

WHI: Look it up. The “I knew JFK and you’re no JFK” part. That is what Bill did this week. A version of it. Reminded everyone of what was but what hasn’t been these last four years. Trust me. Don’t buy the liberal spin. That is what he did. And by the end of that speech, Obama knew it. Things were pretty icy backstage.

UM: Explain. How so?

Branson students sent home over Confederate memorial shirts

Scumbag publix shools

Preston Baughman is known as a champion of Southern heritage. The Branson native wore shirts with the Confederate flag almost daily, just like his dad.

"Preston wore the Confederate flag just about every day. It was rare you seen him without it on," said Mike Baughman, Preston's father. "Graduation night, out of 300 and some kids that graduated with him, he was the only one the entire class stood up and saluted when he went across the stage that night. And he was wearing the flag under his robe."

After graduating from Branson High School, Preston Baughman died in a crash. His family put up three crosses and draped his favorite flag over them. Shirts were also made with his favorite symbol, the Confederate flag.

"His shirt has a rebel flag in the front and a big one on the back," said brother Austin Baughman. "And that's the one I got kicked out of school for last Friday."

Romney: I'll Keep Parts of Obamacare

Gee, we're all so surprised..........

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, who has called for scrapping President Barack Obama's 2010 U.S. healthcare law, said in remarks aired on Sunday that he likes key parts of "Obamacare" despite his party's loathing of it and wants to retain them.

Romney, who faces Obama in the Nov. 6 election, has vowed throughout the campaign to repeal and replace the Obama healthcare law. But asked about the Obama healthcare law on NBC's "Meet the Press" program, Romney said, "Well, I'm not getting rid of all of healthcare reform."

"Of course, there are a number of things that I like in healthcare reform that I'm going to put in place," Romney added. "One is to make sure that those with pre-existing conditions can get coverage. Two is to assure that the marketplace allows for individuals to have policies that cover their family up to whatever age they might like."

The Obama healthcare law, among other provisions, prevents insurance companies from denying medical coverage to people who already are suffering from a medical condition. It also allows parents to keep their young-adult children on their health insurance plans until age 26.

A White Demise

Fred On Everything
VERBATIM POST

Golden Geese, and All That

I begin to weary of the endless denunciations of “white privilege;” the calls to end the dominance of malignant white men; the law suits to abolish all tests on which white men excel, meaning almost any test of mental ability; to make universities and police forces and advanced-placement classes “look like America.” Often appended is the observation that by 2050 the majority of Americans will no longer be white. Invariably this is presented as a merited comeuppance and a laudable democratization.

Really? No doubt all of this is rousing good fun for the affirmative-action classes (which is what we mean by “minorities,” not successful minorities such as men, Chinese, Jews, or geeks.) Yet perhaps we should be wary, all of us, about this much-sought dermal twilight, about abandoning standards of merit in favor of political appointment.

The beginning of wisdom might be to note the utter dependence of the US on white men—men, guys, hombres—who have contributed virtually everything that keeps the affirmative-action classes from living in grass huts. A few examples: (from an ancient column):

Euclidean geometry. Parabolic geometry. Hyperbolic geometry. Projective geometry. Differential geometry. Algebra. Limits, continuity, differentiation, integration. Physical chemistry. Organic chemistry. Biochemistry. Classical mechanics. The indeterminacy principle. The wave equation. The Parthenon. The Anabasis. Air conditioning. Number theory. Romanesque architecture. Gothic architecture. Information theory. Entropy. Enthalpy. Almost every symphony ever written. Pierre Auguste Renoir. The twelve-tone scale. The mathematics behind it, twelfth root of two and all that. S-p hybrid bonding orbitals. The Bohr-Sommerfeld atom. The purine-pyrimidine structure of the DNA ladder. Single-sideband radio. All other radio. Dentistry. The internal-combustion engine. Turbojets. Turbofans. Doppler beam-sharpening. Penicillin. Airplanes. Surgery. The mammogram. The Pill. The condom. Polio vaccine. The integrated circuit. The computer. Football. Computational fluid dynamics. Tensors. The Constitution. Euripides, Sophocles, Aristophanes, Aeschylus, Homer, Hesiod. Glass. Rubber. Nylon. Roads. Buildings. Elvis. Acetylcholinesterase inhibitors. (OK, those are nerve agents, and maybe we didn't really need them.) Silicone. The automobile. Really weird stuff, like clathrates, Buckyballs, and rotaxanes. The Bible. Bug spray. Diffie-Hellman, public-key cryptography, and RSA. Et cetera.

Like it or not, there it is. White men can do these things, have done them, and continue to do them. The evidence shows that all the groups receiving affirmative action have not done them and, by all appearances, cannot—which is why they need affirmative action. Any who have the ability should have the opportunity, yes. (Bright idea: Why don’t we do things without regard to race, creed, color, sex, or national origin? Naw, never fly.) History suggests that there will be few.

Of course, most of the minorities who benefit from these things have never heard of half of them. (In the ‘hood: “Hey man, cool cell. I guess you’re into code-division multiple access.”)

The pattern of white men doing difficult things continues. Consider the founders of companies in information technology (also from an earlier column):

Google (Sergei Bryn, Larry Page), Intel (Gordon Moore, Robert Noyce), Apple (Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak), Microsoft (Bill Gates), Dell Computer (Michael Dell), Facebook (Mark Zuckerberg), YouTube (Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, Jawed Karim), Netscape (Mark Andreesen), Yahoo (Jerry Yang, David Filo), AMD (long list of guys from Fairchild Semiconductor), Twitter (Jack Dorsey), Wikipedia (Jimmy Wales, Larry Sanger), Unz.org (Ron Unz), PayPal (Peter Thiel), Ebay (Pierre Omidyar).

Not quite all white, but nearly so. All are men.

For that matter, anyone who watched the landing of Curiosity, the latest Mars rover, both Curiosity and the landing being astonishing demonstrations of engineering virtuosity, will have noticed that Mission Control consisted overwhelmingly of: White. Men.

I say all of this partly in exasperation at the endless ankle-biting from affirmative-action minorities. If I were rude, which I emphatically am not, I would say, “Invent your own goddam iPods.” Yet the question is profoundly practical. The prosperity of America, its international competitiveness, depends very heavily on white men. Which means on a steadily diminishing proportion of the population.

Maybe this isn’t cause for celebration.

If America were the only country on the planet, as many Americans seem to
think it is, then affirmative action might be a supportable inefficiency, something like a golf handicap. But America is not the only country. Japan, China, and South Korea among others are full of smart, industrious, and ambitious people who are absolutely able to compete against the US. They are not going to cut us any slack. Their percentages of high-end talent are not falling. They don’t do heartwarming social policy.

Yes, yes, I know. I will get stupid mail from stupider people saying that I am a white supremacist. No. I am a brain supremacist. If the entire faculty of Harvard came to consist of Jewish Koreans from Mumbai, I would be perfectly content, assuming they got there on merit. Or even if they came from New Jersey.

In pondering the coming unwhite America, it might be wise to consider how democracy will then work. In America we are accustomed to a rough balance of contending factions—liberals, conservatives, women, men, blacks, Hispanics, feminists, hawks, doves, and so on. Values overlap, emphases change. Elections are often determined by a few percentage points. Any group potentially can influence the outcome, so politicians have to pay attention to the desires of all groups.

By contrast, if the electorate consists of two self-aware groups with utterly incompatible wishes, the smaller group is simply excluded from power. In South Africa, for example, whites have no hope for national office.

Note that blacks and whites indeed have such sharply differing values. Further, blacks do not like whites. They are quite as willing to impose their rule on whites as white once were to impose their rule on blacks. Consider the following survey, from The Pew Research Center:

“Most notably, 62% of blacks say ‘we should make every possible effort to improve the position of blacks and other minorities, even if it means giving them preferential treatment.’ Just 22% of whites agree.
When it comes to the social safety net, 78% of blacks today say ‘the government should guarantee every citizen enough to eat and a place to sleep.’”

The idea that the government—which means white taxpayers—should provide everything suggests a great dimness of mind and poor grasp of the origin of specie. The belief apparently is that money comes from the government, as food comes from Safeway and cell phones from Radio Shack. A constantly dwindling number of whites at the mercy of a predatory welfare class can’t and won’t carry the rest of the population. If (or as) things get worse for them, they will simply flee the country.

The crucial question for an unwhite America is what Hispanics will do—whether they will assimilate to white values or expect to be cared for by the government. They now make up 17% of the population versus 13% for blacks, and their numbers rise faster. Should they bloc-vote with blacks, the two will be able to demand anything at all and get it.

And that, in a competitive world, will be that.

Let's examine your statement as a logical proposition

The bumper sticker alleges "All Yankees Suck" is TRUE

The statement "All Non-Yankees Do-Not-Suck" is the logical Inverse.

It is important to remember that the inverse does NOT necessarily have the same truth value as the original conditional statement.

A truth table clearly shows the relationship between the conditional, the converse, and the inverse:

Conditional Converse Inverse
T T F F T T T
T F F T F T T
F T T F T F F
F F T T T T T

All we can reasonably conclude is that you may likely suck despite your southern heritage.

Hans,

Sir, as a Southern gentleman, I must respectively disagree.

The premise is all Yankees suck. This may be taken to mean that non-Yankees may suck or not. However, in this context, all Southern gentlemen do not suck. This means that the first row in the truth table is the only applicable one which is T in all cases.

As a gentlemen, I will give you some dispensation due to your longevity of residence in the South.

Please keep in mind that Southern politicians are not gentlemen and may or may not suck. In this case, the first two rows are applicable but we still do not know if a Southern politician sucks or not When in doubt, assume any politician should be in the same class as Bill Clinton. In which case the premise takes on additional connotations that a gentleman will not discuss.

Real Unemployment at 19%

Beneath the surface of Friday's jobs report lies the reality of just how disastrous the Obama economy truly is

Breitbart
VERBATIM POST

Consider the following 11 economic facts:

1. When you include the underutilized labor figure with the eight million Americans who have lost hope altogether and stopped looking for a job, real unemployment now stands at just under 19 percent.

2. If the labor force were the same as when President Obama took office in January 2009, the unemployment rate reported on Friday would be 11.2 percent.

3. A record 88,921,000 Americans are no longer in the labor force. To be included in that figure, an individual must be over 16 years of age, a civilian, not in a mental hospital or nursing home, and have stopped hunting for a job for at least four weeks.

4. The average American lost 40 percent of their wealth from 2007 to 2010.

5. Every fifth man in America is out of work.

6. One out of two Americans are now low-income or below the poverty line.

7. Over the past four years, 400,000 food stamp recipients a month have been added to the welfare dole.

8. In 2006-2007, 90 percent of college graduates landed jobs. Under Obama, just 56 percent find work after college.

9. A gallon of gasoline cost $1.84 when Obama entered office. Today, a gallon of gas costs $3.77.

10. Every fourth home mortgage in America is underwater.

11. Under Obama, healthcare costs have skyrocketed 18.9 percent.

The latest Gallup tracking poll shows Mr. Obama leading Republican challenger Mitt Romney 49 to 45 percent.

Detailed Analysis of The Battle Of Xuan Loc with Map and Many Pictures

Footnote:

The South Vietnamese Air Force was so low on ammunition, fuel, and replacement parts that its remaining combat aircraft could only be used sparingly. I was the Funds Manager for the South Vietnamese Air Force at Bien Hoa and we had to ground half the Air Force, but at the end, we sent the Skyraiders back up which was their pilot's favorite. BT)

Footnote II:
The "BELIEVE IT OR NOT" VIETNAM WAR STORIES below are most certainly true. My Vietnamese friend, who worked with me at OICC/RVN Saigon, told me after the war, that when they came to Can Tho and searched his house, they found a talking baby doll and thought it was a CIA radio, so they kept a man in his house for a week until they realized they were fools. The man also opened a can of shoe polish, put his finger into it to have a taste of what he evidently thought was eatable.

Battle Of Xuan Loc is one great story not because many military tacticians, historians, or journalists have praised it for the successful outcome of one ARVN battered Division against four fully equipped VPA Divisions backed with Regiments of tanks and artillery. But all the pundits have missed the point. It was great because the spirit of men who made a stand and fight: In a circumstance when all ARVN senior and junior officers who participated in the battle knew so damn well that they had been betrayed by the US ally; when all the ARVN soldiers under their command had already witnessed the military debacle of their fellow comrades' units from the 1st and 2nd Regional Corps.

Imagine when your football team had learned in advance that their game had been set up to lose: A SELLOUT, but they still played at their best performance. So all the ARVN soldiers who fought the Battle OF Xuan Loc didn't do it for the reasons of Freedom, Liberty, or Democracy. Those embellished terms are just the convenient, demagogic pretexts for the "dirty" foreign politicians or policy makers who used to appeal to the crowds or to promote their party agendas. On those darkest, grieving days of April 1975, the ARVN soldiers stood up and fought at Xuan Loc for just a few simple reasons: The pride of their Units' Colors, Camaraderie, and Duty.

Are you willing to fight like that in the same circumstance? If not, you can join the battle now, on this webpage!

Information presented here was excerpted from Dr. Sears' dissertation and related research materials.

The reason America’s agonizing perception of “Vietnam” will not go away, is because that perception is wrong. It’s out of place in the American psyche, and it continues to fester in much the same way battle wounds fester when shrapnel or other foreign matter is left in the body. It is not normal behavior for Americans to idolize mass murdering communist despots, to champion the cause of human oppression, to abandon friends and allies, or to cut and run in the face of adversity. Why then, did so many Americans engage in, or openly support these types of activities during the country’s “Vietnam” experience?

That the American experience in Vietnam was painful and ended in long lasting (albeit self-inflicted) grief and misery can not be disputed. However, the reasons behind that grief and misery are not even remotely understood – by either the American people or their government. Contrary to popular belief, and a whole lot of wishful thinking by a crowd tens of millions strong that’s made up of mostly draft dodgers and their antiwar cronies, along with their families / supporters, it was not a military defeat that brought misfortune to the American effort in Vietnam.

The United States military in Vietnam was the best educated, best trained, best disciplined and most successful force ever fielded in the history of American arms. Why then, did they get such bad press, and, why is the public’s opinion of them so twisted? The answer is simple. But first, a few relevant comparisons.

During the Civil War, at the Battle of Bull Run, the Union Army panicked and fled the battlefield. Nothing even remotely resembling that debacle ever occurred in Vietnam.

In WW II at the Kasserine Pass in Tunisia, elements of the US Army were overrun by the Germans. In the course of that battle, Hitler’s General Rommel (The Desert Fox) inflicted 3,100 US Casualties, took 3,700 prisoners and captured or destroyed 198 American tanks. In Vietnam there were no US Military units overrun nor were any US infantry or tank outfits ever captured.

WW II again. In the Philippines, US Army Generals Jonathan Wainwright and Edward King surrendered themselves and their troops to the Japanese. In Vietnam, no US general, or any military unit ever surrendered.

Before the Normandy invasion (“D” Day 1944) the US Army1 in England filled its own jails with American soldiers and airmen who refused to fight and then had to rent jail space from the British to handle the overflow. The US Army in Vietnam never had to rent jail space from the Vietnamese to incarcerate American soldiers who refused to fight.

Desertion. Only about 5,000 men assigned to Vietnam deserted, and just 249 of those deserted while in Vietnam. During WW II, in the European theater alone, over 20,000 US Military men were convicted of desertion. On a comparable basis, the overall WW II desertion rate was 55 percent higher than in Vietnam.

During the WW II Battle of the Bulge in Europe, two regiments of the US Army’s 106th Division surrendered to the Germans. Again: In Vietnam no US Army unit, of any size, much less a regiment, ever surrendered.

The highest ranking American soldier killed in WW II was Lt. (three star) General Leslie J. McNair. He died when American war planes accidentally bombed his position during the invasion of Europe. In Vietnam there were no American generals killed by American bombers.

As for brutality: During WW II the US Army executed nearly 300 of its own men. Again, in the European Theater, the US Army sentenced 443 American soldiers to death. Most of the sentences were for the rape and murder of civilians.

In the Korean War, Major General William F. Dean, commander of the 24th Infantry Division, was taken prisoner of war (POW). In Vietnam there were never any US generals, much less division commanders, ever taken prisoner.

During the Korean War, the US Army was forced into the longest retreat in its history. A catastrophic 275 mile withdrawal from the Yalu River all the way to Pyontaek, 45 miles south of Seoul. In the process they lost the capitol city of Seoul. The US Military in Vietnam was never compelled into a major retreat, nor, did it ever abandon Saigon to the enemy.

The 1st US Marine Division was driven from the Chosin Reservoir and forced into an emergency evacuation from the Korean port of Hungnam. There they were joined by other US Army and South Korean soldiers and the US Navy eventually evacuated 105,000 allied troops from that port. In Vietnam there were never any mass evacuations of US Marine, South Vietnamese or allied troop units.

Patriots of ’61 – The Edenton Bell Battery

North Carolina War Between the States Sesquicentennial
www.ncwbts150.com
"The Official Website of the North Carolina WBTS Sesquicentennial Commission"

“On the 4th of March, Lincoln was inaugurated, but those who loved the Union, and hoped for so much, perceived in his inaugural address not a straw to cling to, and he soon afterwards issued his celebrated proclamation calling upon North Carolina to furnish troops to invade her sister States, and to force them again into the Union; so on the 1st day of May a second convention was held in Edenton, and nominated Dr. Richard Dillard, senior, who was elected without opposition to the State Convention called by Governor [John W.] Ellis, which met in Raleigh on May 20, the anniversary of the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence, and severed our connection with the Union.

Warlike preparations at once began, the “Dixie Rebels,” a six-month’s volunteer company, was at once organized by Capt. James K. Marshall, he was afterwards promoted to the rank of Colonel. John C. Badham, a Lieutenant in this company, afterwards became a Major in the 5th [North Carolina Regiment] and gave his life for his country at Williamsburg, Va., May 5, 1862, at which time he held a commission of Lieut. Colonel.

The Edenton Bell Battery was recruited by Capt. Wm. Badham in the winter ’61-’62, and left Edenton soon after the fall of Roanoke Island, then went to Weldon, and on to Raleigh with sixty men, there they were joined by Lieut. Nelson McClees, of Tyrell county, with twenty-two men, and by Lieut. Gaskins with about twenty men. After drilling in Raleigh about two months, they were ordered to Camp Lee near Richmond for instruction.

As gun metal was scarce, Capt. Badham sent Lieut. Jones to Edenton to secure the church bells, and any others he might obtain, to be cast into cannon, in response to Gen. Beauregard’s famous call. He readily secured all the bells except the Baptist (several members objecting), including the town and court-house bells, the Academy bell, and the shipyard bells; these were conveyed to Suffolk across the country in a wagon, and shipped to the Tredegar Iron Works at Richmond, where they were cast into four cannon….

[The cannons were named, respectively], the “St. Paul”; the “Fanny Roulhac,” for a devout and patriotic lady, a staunch member of the Methodist Church; the “Columbia”; and the “Edenton.” [The first named gun was cast from the bells of St. Paul’s Church, the Fanny Roulhac from the Methodist Church, the Columbia from the shipyard bells, and the Edenton from the Academy, Court-house and Hotel bells.]

As the complement of the artillery corps of Gen. Lee’s army was then complete, an order was issued that all other artillery in camps should be transferred, for the time, to the infantry service; this produced great mortification, and disappointment in the company, and Capt. Badham at once dispatched Lieut. Jones to President Jefferson Davis with the following note:

“Sir: The guns of my company were made of the bells of my town, and have tolled to their last resting place a great many of the parents and relatives of my command, and sooner than part with these guns they had rather be taken out and shot.”

Lieut. Jones had not long to wait, the reply came at once that the company would be furnished as soon as possible with both artillery-horses, and harness. The battery was assigned to Moore’s Third North Carolina Battalion. [The battery served in many engagements to include: Winchester, Culpepper Courthouse, Seven Days’, Goldsboro, Kinston, Whitehall Bridge, and Bentonville.]

[Late in the war] the battery was ordered to Wilmington, and guarded the railroad bridge at Northeast, from there they went to Bald Head Island, and did guard duty on the coast until the fall of Fort Fisher [January, 1865], when they fell back on Fort Anderson; after the flank movement of the enemy, and the evacuation of Fort Anderson, the battery was located at Town Creek, where they were attacked by the enemy with considerable force, Capt. Badham sent Sergeant B.F. Hunter with one gun, the “St. Paul,” to prevent them from making a flank movement while he was engaging them at Town Creek; Hunter was supported by a detachment of South Carolina infantry who broke and ran, leaving him on the field with but a squad of men.

Hunter stood his ground fearlessly, and when the enemy arrived at the very muzzle of his gun, a Federal officer shouted to him: “If you fire that gun I will kill you!” the Confederate sergeant, with that coolness and intrepidity which allways characterized him, replied: “Kill, and go to hell!”, and then ordered his gunner, William Hassell, to fire immediately.

He was captured and would have been cut down at once, but the Federal officer ordered his men to spare his life, saying, “He’s too brave a man to be killed.” About fifteen men were captured along with Sergeant Hunter and sent to prison at Point Lookout, among them Mr. A.T. Bush of this town.

The remainder of the battery fell back to Wilmington and were subsequently engaged at Cox’s Bridge, finally surrendering to General Sherman at Greensboro.”

Richard Dillard, “Beverly Hall,” Edenton, North Carolina.

Family: Hostage didn't have to die

Via Battlefield USA

Missed this.

Mark Eric Henderson Jr. saw his opportunity to escape from the Woodbury motel room where he and seven other people were being held hostage early Friday, and he took it.

When the gunman who had been tormenting the group told Henderson to go to the window to see if any police were outside, Henderson took his chance and made a beeline for the door. The kidnapper opened fire at him in response but missed. As Henderson bolted out the door toward them, Woodbury police opened fire and cut him down.

The 19-year-old St. Paul man died later that day at Regions Hospital in St. Paul.

"He tried to get out to save his life," said his mother, Tawana Henderson. "When he opened the hotel door to run out, the police opened fire and killed him."

Obama: ‘I have never been a Muslim’ President’s personal accounts reveal inconsistencies

Via Don

Mr. Obama remains the mystery candidate with an autobiography full of gaps and even fabrications. For example, to sell his autobiography in 1991, Mr. Obama claimed that he “was born in Kenya.” He lied about never having been a member and candidate of the 1990s Chicago socialist New Party. When Stanley Kurtz produced evidence to establish that he was a member, Mr. Obama’s flacks smeared and dismissed Mr. Kurtz. Mr. Obama’s 1995 autobiography, “Dreams from My Father,” contains a torrent of inaccuracies and falsehoods about his maternal grandfather, his father, his mother, his parents’ wedding, his stepfather’s father, his high school friend, his girlfriend, Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn, and the Rev. Jeremiah Wright. As Victor Davis Hanson put it, “If a writer will fabricate the details about his own mother’s terminal illness and quest for insurance, then he will probably fudge on anything.”

The heavy spring-wagon attracted little notice as it rumbled into Columbia, Tennessee, in early December of 1863. Pulled by two mules, the conveyance carried but two passengers, a man and boy. Their journey was a sad one and it was readily explained in a single glance. Behind them --on the bed of the wagon-- lay a coffin.

Sam Davis With the reins in his hands, John C. Kennedy guided the wagon through the busy streets. He wanted no trouble and when a picket ordered him to a halt on the southern outskirts of town, he swallowed hard, told little Oscar to say nothing, and then hoped for the best.

Identification? Kennedy nodded and dug nervously into his pocket, producing a pass. But for some reason, the sentry hardly glanced at the paper, his curiosity drawn first to the coffin and then to the young boy. With hardly a word, he waved them through.

The same thing happened a day later when the coffin-laden wagon approached the town of Pulaski. Puzzled by this lack of asserted Federal authority, Kennedy and Oscar entered the town and parked the wagon near the square. It was the next move that would be the hardest.

John Kennedy had come to Pulaski at the request of Oscar's family. No longer could they deny the rumors that it might be their 21-year-old son who had been hung as a spy in the last week of November. At first it seemed impossible and they had discounted the talk. But the report persisted. Unwilling to believe yet hopelessly drawn to free themselves of this torment, they had asked Kennedy to go and find out. And if it was true, they'd be forever obliged if he'd bring the body of their boy back home for burial.

The father had advised Kennedy that once he got to Pulaski, he should contact an old family acquaintance, a Mr. Richardson, who was clerk of the county court there. To identify the remains, the mother, her voice breaking, described her son's boots and gave Kennedy a piece of the plaid linsey that she had sewn as a lining for her son's jacket. And in case there was any question, well, their youngest son, Oscar, could ride along. Then with a meal sack containing a boiled ham and a half bushel of corn pones to see them through, the twosome departed.

They reached Nashville that evening. Unable to get an audience with the Federal authorities, Kennedy procured a coffin, a "metallic case and box" as he described it. The next morning, after first denying their request for a pass, Gen. Lovell Rousseau reluctantly issued Kennedy--a boyhood friend from old Kentucky--the necessary paper to clear the city. But he warned his old friend that his authority did not extend into Columbia.

Now, thinking back on the events of the last several days, Kennedy could only marvel at how easily they had gotten into Pulaski. Yet he did not relish meeting the executioners of his friend and as he got out of the wagon, he steeled himself for trouble. Instructing Oscar to hold the mules, he headed for the courthouse to see the provost marshal for a pass and, as he remembered years later, to "find out what he would do with us."

The Federal official eyed Kennedy then gruffly demanded to know how he got into Pulaski. Kennedy meekly handed him the pass.

"This is no account here," stated the officer bluntly, then as he narrowed his eyes on Kennedy, he demanded, "What do you want?"

John Kennedy replied forthrightly that he had come at the request of the family for the body of the young man who had been hanged. The parents simply wanted him brought home.

Instantly, the officer's whole attitude softened and he rose and offered his hand in welcome. With emotion in his voice, he put Kennedy at ease, assuring him he would do everything in his power to facilitate the request. For a moment there was an awkward silence as both men reassessed each other. Finally, not knowing what else to say, the officer spoke. "Tell them, for me, that he died the bravest of the brave, an honor to them and with the respect of every man in this command."

Kennedy was stunned as the officer handed him return passes and signed a permit for them to take up the body. This was far more cooperation than he had expected and, still unsure of his reception, he inquired if he would encounter any trouble or interference at the graveyard.

The officer was adamant. "No sir. If you do, I'll give you a company--yes, a regiment if necessary."

Bewildered by this unexpected cordiality, Kennedy returned to the wagon to find Oscar surrounded by soldiers inquiring if he was there to claim the body of the young man just hung. Oscar could only nod, no doubt frightened by all of this attention, whereupon several of the soldiers, moved by the scene of the somber lad and coffin, choked back that the dead man "ought not to have been hung," while others, fearful of retribution from the Confederates or perhaps even a Higher Power, felt they would certainly "suffer for it sooner or later."

When They Come For Your Guns, You Will Turn Them Over

*Agreed. Good comments at the story link also.

Comment by ojibwa on L&P:
First his article gives me the feeling of *TROLL Bait or the Feds wrote the article for him.

Another point for the Active Duty that feel they'll kill us & take out stashes. There are Veterans as determined as you are, but instead of threatening their fellow citizens they are training them to defend. They seem to forget that part.

=============================

“When they come for my gun, they will have to pry it out of my cold, dead hands,” is a common refrain I often hear from the Neo-Cons when there is a threat, credible or otherwise, that the US government is going to take their firearms.

And, when I hear this crazy talk, I agree with them openly. “You are right. They will pry your gun from your cold dead hands,” which I often follow with the question, “And where will that leave you except face down in a pool of your own blood the middle of the street, just another dead fool resisting the State?”

This is not a question they are comfortable with, if only because the intent of their saber-rattling was to imply they would fight to keep their weapons, and win.

Nice fantasy. It’s not happening.

If the federal government decides to disarm the public, and one of these (see photo below) rolls down your street after a not-so-subtle request that you kindly turn over your firearms and ammunition “for the common good,” it will be nothing less than suicide by cop to do anything other than what you are told.

Interpol and Swedish authorities aid Saudi Embassy to hunt convert

Maryam reveals her conversion to Christianity in a video.
The new convert Maryam said in the published video that she hasn’t removed her Hijab for fear of her life and to keep her identity unknown.

In late July Saudi media reported that a Saudi woman named Maryam (28) had illegally both embraced Christianity and fled the country. Her family have charged two men — a Lebanese and a Saudi national — with complicity in her conversion and escape. The men will face court on 15 September. Whilst a woman claiming to be Maryam told an Arabic TV channel that she was converted through a dream and has found peace in Christianity, Saudi media maintain it is all either fraud or coercion. The woman’s family has suggested she is a victim of human traffickers. Interpol is reportedly coordinating with the Saudi Embassy in Stockholm and Swedish authorities to find and return the ‘girl’ before her ‘kidnappers’ can move her to another country. Please pray.

Since late July Saudi media have been buzzing with reports that a 28-year-old Saudi woman has embraced Christianity and fled the country, staying initially in a church in Lebanon before moving on to Sweden. According to the Saudi Gazette, the woman, Maryam, appeared on an Arabic TV channel saying she was tired of performing prayers and fasting during Ramadan — rituals that never brought her any benefit. She also criticised Saudi Arabia’s Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice.
