Oliver North says Republicans 'complicit' in letting intelligence services 'trod on' 4th Amendment

Via LH

Retired Marine colonel and Iran-Contra figure Oliver North said in Huntsville Friday that that he is "deeply concerned" about the data being collected on American citizens by American intelligence agencies.

"I think the Fourth Amendment to the Constitution has been trod on," North told a press conference before addressing a crowd of 350 at a young Republicans' dinner at the Davidson Center for Space Technology. North added that "the Republicans in Congress are complicit by not insisting on a select committee to investigate not just NSA, but Benghazi, the IRS, the spying on Americans, enemies' lists being compiled."

"I think all of that would be worthy of a select committee," North said, "and I think I know a little something about select committees."

Hidden for Half a Century: The 1940 Barn Dodge!

Via Daily Timewaster

 copyright by californiaclassix.com

You have heard stories of barn finds before. Some sound incredible, some unbelievable. But here's one that might top 'em all. It's the true story of one 1940 Dodge Deluxe Sedan.

Back in 1940, life in the Country was running at a different pace. You could leave your house unlocked, and, of course, your car. Television and graffiti were words without meaning. Pearl Harbor was an event of the future. It would take two more years until the United States would enter World War II.

Life was hard but good . . .

At about this time VIN *30231403* was built by proud American workers in Detroit, Michigan, one of 84,976 Dodge D-14 DeLuxe four-door sedans manufactured in 1940. A veterinarian from Horseshoe Bend, Idaho, purchased the blue Dodge new at the local Dodge dealer in Boise.

He used it to respond to calls all through the war years; his 1944 permit is still affixed to the windshield. Being a very valuable asset during war times, the car was always parked in a dedicated spot in the barn when not in use. In 1948, the good Doctor passed away. The car was put on blocks and covered with bed sheets. No, it was not going to be for sale.

Who would have guessed at that time that the Dodge would be asleep for more than 50 years . . .

Police shot unarmed man, drove an armored truck through his door when he did not exit his property on command

Police shot unarmed man, drove an armored truck through his door when he did not exit his property on command JohnGeer12

A paramilitary force was dispatched to a man’s townhouse after his girlfriend reported a domestic dispute.  When he stubbornly chose to stay inside his home, police shot him and drove an armored truck through his front door.

The situation began on August 29th around 2:40 p.m. when John Geer — a 46-year-old kitchen designer and installer — was told by his girlfriend that she had decided to leave him.  The couple had two daughters together, ages 13 and 17.  Emotionally distraught over the breakup, Geer exacerbated the situation by throwing her belongings onto the lawn of their townhouse.

This led to her calling the police.  She informed the dispatcher that he owned a firearm.  A SWAT team was sent to the quiet cul-du-sac.

Geer’s home was surrounded by armored vehicles and paramilitary personnel.  A police sniper was photographed lying prone in a neighbor’s yard aiming toward Geer’s residence.  Men in helmets and military fatigues cordoned off the neighborhood.  Police began making their demands.  An armored truck a topside gun turret parked in his yard and prepared for a strike command.  As time went on, helicopters whirred overhead and K-9 units were seen by neighbors.

Republican Party Accursed Forever

[The Republicans complain that] two hundred thousand dollars went to pension the Confederate soldiers.  We will take care of these old veterans, we owe them a debt of gratitude. In the wreck and ruin of war we were rich in the priceless heritage of their memory.

“These were men whom death could not terrify, whom defeat could not dishonor.” They glorified the fallen cause by the simple manhood of their lives and by the heroism of their death. They have cast over the South the glamour or an immortal chivalry and consecrated the cause of Dixie with the blood of an immortal sacrifice.  It was devotion like this that made the South, though torn and bleeding, beautiful and splendid in her desolation, and in her woe.

For forty years they have been the builders of the New South and the projectors of her larger destiny.  The Federal Government provides for the soldiers that followed its flag.  That is right. We will provide for the soldiers of the armies of the “storm-cradled nation that fell.”

When Senator Pritchard was a member of the Legislature in 1895 he and his party voted against giving one cent of pension to the needy heroes that had hobbled home on crutches from Appomattox.
There is one class of men whom we do not believe in pensioning – the deserter.  There are men here who remember the last two years of the war.  The world was against us. Armies were crashing down upon us like a ring of fire.  Sherman was marching to the sea and leaving behind him ashes and desolation.  In that time there were men whose courage never faltered.

Ragged and hungry and bleeding they stood in the trenches around Richmond and Petersburg. They stood with an unfailing devotion, though sometimes they knew that their little ones at home were living on the corn they picked up from the wagon ruts of the invading armies.  They died remembering Dixie like the Greeks remembering Argos – in the language of the old song: “While one kissed a ringlet of thin gray hair and one kissed a lock of brown.”

But there were some who did not stand. Traitors and deserters they were. They turned their backs upon the only home and country that they ever had.  They sneaked through the lines. They threw away their old gray uniform and put on the blue. They came back to shoot and kill, to rob the defenseless wives and mothers of their comrades who were fighting and dying at the front; to burn their homes and to murder the innocent.

To these men Senator Pritchard has given a royal pension. He said to the hero of the Confederacy that he might starve, but with the money of the honest people he feeds and clothes the deserter.

Yes, I denounce this in the name of the forty thousand sons of North Carolina who sleep tonight beneath the sod in the battle-scarred bosom of old Virginia.  I denounce it in the name of the men who rushed defiant of death through the storm of Chickamauga and Gettysburg.  In the name of every Confederate soldier I denounce it.  In memory of the women who were robbed and the men who were murdered I denounce it. In the name of all brave men who love courage and despise cowardice, who believe in fidelity to comrades and in love for home and in loyalty to a great cause, I denounce this infamous act.  I do not stand alone.

Here is the resolution of the last Reunion of Confederate Veterans of North Carolina:

“Resolved, That we condemn and denounce the Act of Congress which rewards treachery and perfidy in giving pensions to Confederate deserters for fighting against their former flag and comrades.”

The judgment of the South is that the party that starves the soldier and pensions the deserter should be accursed forever.

The child has not yet been born in North Carolina that will see the day when the party that has degraded our people . . . will be restored to power. The new day has dawned, but the judgment has been pronounced against this Republican party.  Democracy, united, enthusiastic and steadfast in its purpose to guard the welfare of all the people, to protect North Carolina from the hand of the despoiler, to promote the upbuilding of this great State, marches forward with victorious assurances.”

Connecticut Man Joseph Callahan Arrested for Having ‘Too Many’ Guns & Model Rockets

 Joseph Callahan

Connecticut Police raided the home of Joseph Callahan, 69, confiscated more than 270 guns and he was charged with several felonies, including 11 counts of illegal possession of explosives and six counts of first-degree reckless endangerment. Was Callahan really endangering anyone or planning some sort of terrorist attack? No, he was not.

According to Callahan's attorney, Richard Meehan, he is just a collector, a gun aficionado, and a hoarder. Meehan also claims that Callahan is a retired chemist and collector who had no "nefarious intent" when items were discovered at his upscale Fairfield home.

Joseph Callahan

Joseph Callahan
Joseph Callahan is even in the skeet shooting hall of fame, Meehan said.

"He's a gun collector, and they're all registered. They're all legal," Meehan told the Daily News on Tuesday. "In addition, he's an amateur rocketeer. He shoots off his own small rockets, and a lot of what he had was related to the rocketry."

Mr. Callahan previously worked at DuPont, a chemical company and also worked as a gunmaker at Remington Arms.

So how did police come to be charged with numerous felonies?

Wow, indoctrination tied up as instruction on possessives. This is reportedly part of the Common Core lessons for third graders so it applies to all schools employing those standards.

Charging Buck Was Rescued From A Grisly Death

On Wednesday we found a two-minute video on Live Leak showing two men from Oklahoma using smartphones to shoot a whitetail buck at extreme close range. The clip went viral, generating lots of negative comments from hunters who thought that the men were simply too close to the buck. But it was only an excerpt from a larger video (below), one that paints a different story of the encounter.

Mayo Clinic Chief: Obamacare Not Focused on Improving Quality of Care 11/01/id/53

While much of the talk concerning Obamacare now centers on the malfunctioning website, there's a bigger issue — quality of care.

"The Affordable Care Act is basically insurance reform — eligibility and access — and basically, they are going to pay for that by reducing the reimbursement" to doctors, Dr. John Noseworthy, CEO of the Mayo Clinic, tells CNBC.

"It doesn't modernize how we drive to higher quality care."

“You have got to obey the law or we shall take you by the throat , sir.”

Senator Ben Tillman of South Carolina was a painful thorn in the side of “Roosevelt the First,” as Mencken referred to TR.  When Roosevelt seized control of the Dominican Republic’s customs office after the United States Senate refused to ratify a treaty sanctioning this act, Tillman demanded that Senators should stand on their feet and say to Roosevelt, “You have got to obey the law or we shall take you by the throat , sir.”

Tillman Against Roosevelt’s Republican Machine

“The most durable of Ben Tillman’s many animosities was his hatred of Theodore Roosevelt.  This grew out of the President’s withdrawal of an invitation to attend the White House banquet of February 24, 1902, in honor of Prince Henry of Prussia.  The South Carolinian was invited because he was a member of the Senate naval committee, but between the invitation and the dinner occurred the Tillman-McLaurin brawl.  “Had the President sent a mutual friend in a quiet way suggesting that it would be an awkward situation, any man who knows me at all knows how quickly I would have relieved him of his obligation to me.”

He let it be known that he considered the President’s implications indecent and insulting and that he was willing to abide by the judgment of “all brave and self-respecting men.” Privately he declared that he had been treated “in a cowardly and ungentlemanly way” by “this ill-bred creature who is accidentally President.”  He swore never to enter the White House again until it was occupied by another.

Earlier attacks upon imperialist policies were intensified when Roosevelt became responsible for them. The South Carolinian’s first foray was against efforts to subjugate the Filipinos. While the President insisted that for “every guilty act committed by our troops . . . a hundred acts of far greater atrocity have been committed by the hostile natives,” Tillman questioned the conduct of American soldiers. Were they not “occupying the attitude of butchers and practicing cruelties that would disgrace the Inquisition?”

Behind the administration’s plan of government for the Philippines he saw “the desire of some men to get ungodly and indecent wealth.” The President’s agents were given “the same autocratic power the Czar exercises in Russia” and were frustrating plans for local self-government.

The coup by which Roosevelt secured Panama was of a startling character . . . [and it would have been preferable, Tillman said, to have taken Panama openly rather than intrigue] “in the disreputable, dishonorable creation of a so-called republic in a back room.”  If it was true that the President had used the method of the “sneak-thief” and the “bully,” he ought to be impeached.

When Roosevelt denied complicity in the Panama Revolution, Tillman said that circumstantial evidence against the President was such that he should reveal all facts before the Senate ratified the treaty.  This was a fair and simple demand [but] the Republican majority, brushing constitutional sophistries aside, acquiesced in what the President had done.  To this day the mystery of the Panama Revolution remains unsolved.
Roosevelt’s extremely Northern attitude toward the black man seemed especially designed to inflame [Southern society]. Protests by Southern whites [against Reconstruction-like policies] were treated “with contumely and contempt” by the President. Venal motives underlay this action. The Republican machine desired to secure the Negro vote in the border States and to control the Southern Republican delegates in the national conventions.  Such conditions accounted for the fact that outraged Southerners “rush to do an unjust and improper thing.”

States prepare to crack down on Obamacare 'navigators'

 obama_signs_obamacare

States, alarmed by the lack of background screening and restrictions on Obamacare’s “navigators” – who are paid tax dollars to recruit participants for the health insurance scheme – have begun preparing protections for their citizens.

More than 120 federal grants have been handed out in nearly three dozen states for various “community” organizations to be paid to recruit Obamacare participants. The grants amount to hundreds of millions of dollars.

The list of grant recipients, according to one organization monitoring the activity, “is a veritable ‘who’s who’ of the left-wing political machine.” It includes groups with ACORN-ties such as the Southern United Neighborhoods and the Structured Employment Economic Development Corp, or SEEDC.

SEEDC, according to the Goldwater Institute, “recently settled a $1.725 million lawsuit for fraud committed under another government program.”

“The American people have a right to be concerned about the agendas and integrity of these groups,” said Arizona state Rep. Paul Boyer of Phoenix, who is working on the issue.

“Once again we are seeing the federal government play favorites with public funds, and in this case under the guise of helping people smoothly transition to a marketplace that was supposed to simplify the process to begin with.”

President Barack Obama has given the nation a new “Council on Climate Preparedness and Resilience” that expands government bureaucrats’ role in how Americans use their lands, energy, waters and property.

Obama announced the executive order Friday, the day after Halloween.

The order is titled “Preparing the United States for the Impacts of Climate Change.”

The new order was issued even though recent scientific data have contradicted claims that use of carbon energy — such as gasoline — will drive up the world’s temperature and induce damaging climate change. Average temperatures have leveled for more than a decade, despite the sharply rising use of carbon energy in China and other countries.

Charles Cleaper, James Hicks and Joe Johnson, “free men of color” who served with distinction as Confederate States Marines.

Roundabout via Carl

In 1998, Confederate States Marines Charles Cleaper, James Hicks and Joe Johnson’s names were finally added to the Black Confederates exhibit at Appomattox Court House National Historical Park — tribute and belated honor to a story worth telling of grey coated warriors that served to the honor of the Corps.

Cleaper, Hicks and Johnson enlisted in the Confederate Marine Corps in Charleston, S.C. and served aboard the Confederate States Ship Chicora until March 1865. The Confederate States Marine Corps, as well as the Confederate States Navy, authorized recruitment of one black for every five whites recruited. These marines and sailors served along side their white counterparts. Several skilled pilots on Confederate gunboats were “men of color” and held an officer’s rank. One such pilot was Moses Dallas, who served with the Savannah Squadron from 1862 to 1864. A letter from the Savannah Squadron Commander to the Secretary of the Navy gives us a small glimpse of the value of blacks to the Confederate Navy:

“I have also been compelled to increase the pay of Moses Dallas from $80 to $100 per month in order to retain him. He is a colored pilot and is considered the best inland pilot on the coast.”
