The Vacant Pontiac Silverdome, 2014

Via The Feral Irishman

The Pontiac Silverdome is a vacant sports stadium, formerly the home of the Detroit Lions football team, and the Detroit Pistons basketball team. Other major events included Wrestlemania III, which set a world record for attendance at an indoor event. The Lions left the stadium in 2002, after which some concerts and sports events were held. The Silverdome has been vacant since 2012, and the contents are being auctioned off: http://rjmauctions.com/online_silverd...

  1. My brother's high school football team won the State Championship in the Silverdome back in 2000 - not surprising that no one wants to use this facility as it's kind of out in the middle of nowhere, but not in a good way.

  2. I have to wonder how big a hit the taxpayers are going to take. This unholy alliance, which has government paying the expenses for private businesses, is wrong. Here is an idea instead of footing the bill for a sports team that will charge $100+ per seat instead build and equip a factory to build products and hire people. Can you imagine the good wages a company could pay if government paid for all their building and equipment costs? I can guarantee that the owner of either the Lions or the Pistons is not on the hook for the hundreds of millions if not over a billion dollars it cost for the stadium.

  3. Hey, this is Michigan where the 'solutions' always involve giving away the Farm from sports complexes to subsidies for horrid movies that no one will watch. Our RINO governor is trying to figure out how to make us all responsible for bailing out Detroit while plans proceed for building a new hockey stadium (60% taxpayer subsidized). The same thieves (or close relatives) who bankrupted Detroit in the first place are still calling the shots. The new football and baseball stadiums are right downtown near the casino, the only safe area in Detroit. We are crazy & stupid here in Michigander land.

  4. Good question - if I don't, then I am crazy and stupid. The realtor has been contacted, so that is some progress. )

  5. not very well in my area, which has been in steady decline since I got here 8 years ago - will lose about $40-50,000 if I try to sell now...but it is not going to get better in this area for a variety of reasons. The phrase, 'Cut your losses' comes to mind ).

Absolutely, these days you can't get insulted by low offers, if you want to sell, just do it.

  6. good advice & I think I will take it -- I am never insulted by such things, just surprised. I made money on my little tiny house in Florida when I moved up here (just as the Bubble burst), so in the end, I will about break even ;)

    1. I guess you moved from Florida to be close to your mom and now you will be moving back and taking her along! I love happy endings. :)
