GOA Helping to Neuter Obama's Gun Control Agenda

Gun rights advancing, despite adversity

“GOA was the first group to jump in and help with my legal expenses. They really made a difference.” -- Connecticut gun owner (and state senate candidate) Walter Reddy, thanking GOA’s Larry Pratt for helping him to get his guns returned from overzealous prosecutors

There’s been a lot going on around the country, and Gun Owners of America has been at the center of much of it. We thank our grassroots for their involvement in these efforts and for taking action on our alerts.

While this alert will show where we stand right now, please make sure you see the ACTION ITEM at the bottom.

NULLIFICATION BILLS ADVANCE NATIONWIDE

Gun Owners of America has been working with legislators in several states to prohibit state and local officials from enforcing Barack Obama's gun control agenda.

Go here to read more about these efforts -- and to see what you can do to add your voice in opposition to the recent anti-gun regulations promulgated by Health and Human Services.

ANTI-GUNNER BLOCKED IN HIS QUEST FOR ASSISTANT ATTORNEY GENERAL
Despite the fact that the Senate blew up its own rules in order to destroy the filibuster, anti-gunners were not able on Wednesday to trot out the 50 votes needed to break a filibuster of the nomination of Debo Adegbile to be Assistant Attorney General.

You can go here to read more about this vote.

And here to see how your Senators voted.

An amazing example of civil disobedience is occurring in the state of Connecticut, but the national media is hardly talking about it.

OBAMA/HOLDER NICS CHANGES TO IMPACT GUN OWNERS

The big story this week relates to Eric Holder’s justice department, which will shortly announce NICS changes that would result in the permanent seizure of large numbers of firearms by executive fiat -- and make it harder for gun owners to get their seized firearms back.

Regularly, GOA receives pleas from members who have had guns seized by police, both legally and illegally. The common thread is that law enforcement is seldom cooperative in returning the firearms.
Sometimes police challenge the gun owners to “sue us.” And when there is a form and a procedure, authorities frequently ignore deadlines to respond.

Under Obama’s proposed changes, most gun owners with seized guns would have to go through a new NICS check. Since 8% of NICS checks produce “yellow” responses -- and 95% of these are false negatives -- you can be sure that few of these 8% are ever going to get their seized guns back.
In addition, Obama would create a centralized computerized registry of veterans and others who failed background checks.

Gun Owners of America will ask Congress to defund these lawless and unconstitutional actions.

ACTION: Contact the three key players in the House Appropriations Subcommittee, who have the power to include legislation to “defund” Obama’s anti-gun Executive Actions in the appropriations bills that will be moving over the next few weeks.

Those three key players are Frank Wolf (R-VA), Robert Aderholt (R-AL) and Andy Harris (R-MD). Those who live in these districts, can contact them by cutting-and-pasting the letter below and using their webforms. Those who live outside of the districts can contact them by fax or phone.

----- Pre-written letters to Reps. Wolfe, Aderholt & Harris -----

Dear
I urge you to include legislation to "defund" Obama's anti-gun Executive Actions in the appropriations bills that will be moving over the next few weeks.

Eric Holder's justice department will shortly announce NICS changes that would result in the permanent seizure of large numbers of firearms by executive fiat -- and make it harder for gun owners to get their seized firearms back.

Regularly, Gun Owners of America receives pleas from its members who have had guns seized by police, both legally and illegally. The common thread is that law enforcement is seldom cooperative in returning the firearms.

Sometimes police challenge the gun owners to "sue us." And when there is a form and a procedure, authorities frequently ignore deadlines to respond.

Under Obama's proposed changes, most gun owners with seized guns would have to go through a new NICS check. Since 8% of NICS checks produce "yellow" responses -- and 95% of these are false negatives -- you can be sure that few of these 8% are ever going to get their seized guns back.

In addition, Obama's unilateral actions would create a centralized computerized registry of veterans and others who failed background checks.

So please make sure that upcoming appropriations legislation contains language to "defund" Obama's Executive Actions.

Sincerely,

Restoration of the William Mayo Pippen House

My great grandfather's place.

 3. 1877. " In the meantime the fact that the Negroes constituted such a great majority gave indications that radical domination might continue. Especially this was true in regard to town administration. This field of activity offered a greater opportunity in exercising tact and ingenuity than that of county or state politics. To meet this political emergency arose William Pippen.

(William Mayo, my great grandfather. He traveled to New York City after the War in his Confederate uniform as that was all he possessed, asked a friend of his father's if he would lend him money to start a mercantile shop in Tarboro, which he did, and was so successful that he built the *William Mayo Pippen House beside the library in 1870 while acquiring numerous other lots. BT)

He conceived a plan by which the whites could control town affairs in Tarboro. The old citizens will recall that prior to1875, there were no wards or districts in the town of Tarboro; in fact, no such provision had been anticipated in the town charter. (1760) A census of the city showed that the Negroes had the majority and invariably elected all three commissioners. Mr. Pippen appeared before the State Legislature and succeeded in having the charter amended, dividing the town into three wards. The first and second wards contained the majority of whites in the central part of town, while the third ward included the suburbs, where the Negroes lived. This placed the Negroes in a position to carry only one ward, and the whites the remaining two wards, and Negro domination collapsed."

TARBORO — An exterior restoration of the Pippen-Staton House, a grand post-Civil War era mansion on Tarboro’s Main Street, is under way.

SECU*Real Estate has hired the Enfield-based contracting company Andrus & Company, LLC for the rehabilitation project. Preservation architect Richard Andrews estimated the project would be completed in three to four months.

“It is what I consider to be a pivotal, significant property within the Tarboro Historic District, which is a National Registered Historic District,” Andrews said. “The owner wants to sell it to a buyer, who will then complete the rehabilitation on the inside of the house…It would make a great residence. It’s been a residence ever since it was built.”

William Mayo Pippen, a wealthy merchant and planter, was the home’s first owner, purchasing the property in September 1879.

Looking for Mr. Jefferson

 Thomas_Jefferson_standing_by_Sully (1)

A cynical but true saying that sometimes passes around among historians is “He who controls the present controls the past.” Man is a symbolizing creature, and political struggles can be as much over symbols as over tangible things. Those who hold power and those who seek power want to associate themselves with favourable symbols from their society’s past. It gives them an air of tradition and legitimacy. Those who hold political, cultural, educational, and media power obviously have an advantage in this game. Or sometimes the game is associating rivals with negative symbols. Who does not want to be likened to Lincoln  Me and you, I am sure Dr. Clyde :) and to stick his opponents with Hitler?

Needless to say, none of this has much to do with historical accuracy, which even at its best is an elusive and to some degree an unavoidably subjective thing. Thomas Jefferson was for a long time one of the most potent references in American discourse. I can think of nobody else who has had this role so powerfully as both a negative and a positive symbol. Jefferson’s name is still significant, as witness the relentless efforts of the present regime, which fears the real Jefferson, to destroy him as a favourable image. But, regrettably, Mr. Jefferson is no longer as important as he once was, nor does his name mean what it once did for most Americans. We live in an age of reverence for Franklin D.
Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy, and Martin Luther King and in a time in which eighteenth- and nineteenth-century America is as remote to most citizens as ancient Persia or China.

Otter attacked a young alligator at Florida wildlife reserve and ate it alive

Bow down: The alligator growls in panic as the otter bites down on its neck in the water

They may appear cute and cuddly, but as one alligator soon learned, otters can be vicious predators.

These photos show an otter overpowering a juvenile gator and despite the reptile doing its best, it was no match for the fanged weasel-cousin.

The animals were spotted at Lake Woodruff National Wildlife Refuge in Florida, where it soon became clear that the otter was in it to win it.

Russia also scuttled a third ship in the Crimean harbour of Donuzlav to tighten its blockade on the doggedly loyal Ukrainian navy vessels trapped behind Russian lines.

Vladimir Putin has mocked diplomatic efforts to end the Ukraine crisis as Russia threatened to disrupt European gas supplies by cutting off sales to Kiev over its unpaid debts.

The Russian president said through his official spokesman that, despite deep disagreements with the West, he did not want a confrontation over Ukraine to spiral into a “new cold war”.

Nevertheless Dmitry Peskov ridiculed Western demands for direct talks between the Kremlin and the new Kiev government.

Russia in patriotic fervor over Crimea

Russia was swept up in patriotic fervor Friday for bringing Crimea back into its territory, with tens of thousands of people thronging Red Square waving flags and chanting "Crimea is Russia!" as a parliamentary leader declared that the peninsula would be welcomed as an "equal subject" of Russia.

The semi-autonomous region belongs to Ukraine, but the local parliament has called a March 16 referendum on whether Crimea should join Russia, a move President Barack Obama has called a violation of international law.

New York Judge Orders County to Provide Newspaper With List of Pistol Permit Holders

1 Crosfield Ave., West Nyack, New York, offices of the Journal-News. Image via Google Maps Street View.

The Journal News is at it again.

The Gannett-owned newspaper that infuriated pistol permit holders in Westchester and Rockland counties by publishing an interactive online map of permit holders in 2012 that included their home addresses has just won the latest round in a battle to acquire even more permit holder addresses:
A state judge has ordered Putnam County to turn pistol permit records over to The Journal News, which sued for the data last fall after the county denied the newspaper’s Freedom of Information Law requests.
In a five-page decision Wednesday, Supreme Court Justice Robert Neary cited the NY-SAFE Act, a sweeping series of gun-control measures that allowed gun owners to remove their names from a public database after the law was enacted in January 2013.
Neary ruled that the names remaining on the database — those who did not ask to be removed from it — are a public record and therefore subject to open disclosure laws.

AP Smears Trail Life Boys with Misleading 'Nazi' Photo

“I was horrified,” said John Stemberger, chairman of the board of Trail Life USA, a new, rapidly-growing scouting organization that doesn’t allow openly gay members.

Stemberger was referring to an Associated Press photograph that accompanied an in-depth story about Trail Life. The image showed a group of young boys gathered in a circle with their hands raised at an unusual angle. The AP’s original caption on the photo said they were reciting the organization’s “creed” during a meeting in North Richland Hills, Texas.

It took the AP several days to acknowledge their error. But by then, the unfortunate comparison to Nazi Germany had spread on the Internet faster than Hitler’s invasion of Poland.

Why many preppers will die

 graveyard

Survivalists and preppers are (or are supposed to be) by definition something like smart folks, people who do not trust mainstream bu..s..t, who follow their own path to be winners at the end.

Actually in reality truth is different.

We all like to say that we are different but just like everyone else we fall under the influence too.

How many times you or some prepper you know built or formed opinion without even checking it? How many times you bought some item and store it just because you think it makes sense, not because you know it makes sense and you check on it. It is often easier way to believe others and you can not try everything yourself of course.

One of the most stupid things or worst mistakes that you can make in prepping is to become “mainstream”. Slap label of prepper on you and you start to think you are smarter than others. You may think that preppers and survivalists can not be mainstream because it is not logical, but yes we can.

We gonna buy bug for BOB because someone said “it is best for BOB” usually without checking who is the guy who said it. Or we gonna say “I have best gun for SHTF” because someone put huge amount of money for marketing it. If most preppers look at their storage they can find items they know theory of using it, but never used it.

The problem here is not buying these things. The problem is with forming your opinion and many survivalists think they know and they have plan but that makes them in reality less flexible to consider all options.

When SHTF and you realize quickly that you have completely wrong boots (or weapon, or BOB or whatever) you maybe still can fix it if you act. Changing way of thinking (or plan…) is harder.

I saw a report yesterday, but could not confirm, so didn't post.

The internet is awash with stories of Putin shutting down exports of ammunition to the U.S. in response to events taking place in Ukraine. Blogs are making unsubstantiated reports that such a mandate has been handed down from the Kremin, however I’m unable to find any credible news sources to confirm these rumors. I’ve not been able to find a press release from the Kremlin nor any mention of it elsewhere in the main stream media.

Infowars is reporting that distributors (not importers) are reporting a massive run on Russian ammo after hearing the unsubstantiated rumors of an ammo embargo. Of course distributors are going to be wiped out, people are doing what they always do — panicking and hoarding. It’s a seemingly endless cycle we’ve endured for the last eight years or so… and here we go again.

We are our own worst enemies at times…

Hillary, Hitler & Cold War II

Via Nancy

In assessing the motives and actions of Vladimir Putin, Hillary Clinton compared them to Adolf Hitler’s. Almost always a mistake.

After 12 years in power, Hitler was dead, having slaughtered millions and conquered Europe from the Atlantic to the Urals.

And Putin? After 13 years in power, and facing a crisis in Ukraine, he directed his soldiers in the Crimea to take control of the small peninsula where Russia has berthed its Black Sea fleet since Napoleon.

To the Wall Street Journal this is a “blitzkrieg.”

But as of now, this is a less bloody affair than Andrew Jackson’s acquisition of our Florida peninsula. In 1818, Gen. Jackson was shooting Indians, putting the Spanish on boats to Cuba and hanging Brits. And we Americans loved it.

Still, there are parallels between what motivates Putin, a Russian nationalist, and what motivated the Austrian corporal. Hitler’s war began in blazing resentment at what was done to Germany after Nov. 11, 1918.

Russia hits back at US ‘barefaced cynicism and double standards’ over Ukraine

Via Nancy

AFP Photo/Nicholas Kamm

The Russian Foreign Ministry has accused the US State Department of double standards and low-level propaganda after it published a list of President Vladimir Putin’s “false claims” about the events in Ukraine.

The State Department is trying to play on a shamelessly one-sided interpretation of the events,” ministry spokesperson Aleksandr Lukashevich said on Thursday. “Surely, Washington cannot admit that they were nurturing Maidan [protests], encouraging the violent overthrow of the legitimate government, and thus clearing the way for those who are now pretending to be a legitimate power in Kiev.

On Wednesday, one day after the Russian president's media conference on the events in Ukraine, the US State Department accused him of lying and published a “fact sheet” of Putin's 10 “false claims” surrounding the crisis.

Moscow said that it will not respond to such “low-level propaganda.”

We will only say, yet again, that we are dealing with unacceptable arrogance and a pretense of having a monopoly on the truth,” Lukashevich said in a statement posted on the Foreign Ministry’s website.

The United States has “no moral right” to lecture about observing international laws and respecting the sovereignty of other states, the diplomat added.

What about the bombing of former Yugoslavia or the invasion of Iraq over a fabricated cause?” Lukashevich pointed out.

Obama needs to go back and play in his sandbox.

U.S. Department of Defense satellite imagery has detected the arrival of more than thirty (30) Russian nuclear bombers to the airfield adjacent to Russia's Borisoglebsk national level nuclear weapons storage facility (Voronezh-45) and has observed numerous transfers from the storage facility to the aircraft, which are now standing-by along the two runways at the airport.

As shown on the map below, the Borisoglebsk national level nuclear weapons storage facility is located at latitude 51°21'47"N   Longitude 41°55'38"E near the cities of Peski, Uryupinsk, Balashov, about 590 miles east of Kiev, Ukraine.  (Map Here)

Russia To Propose Freezing US Assets And Confiscate Foreign Owned Property

A Russian lawmaker is drafting a bill that would freeze the assets of European and American companies operating within Russia in the latest volley between the West and Russia as tensions continue to rise with rhetoric and outright threats.

Via RT:

The chairman of the upper house committee for constitutional law, Andrey Klishas, is sure that Russia must have an enough leverage to deal with the threat of sanctions coming from foreign countries.A team of lawyers are currently preparing a separate federal bill that would allow the Russian president and government to confiscate foreign owned property in Russia, including assets belonging to private companies, the senator told the RIA Novosti news agency.
