Ferguson – when assholes collide

Via WRSA

Well, I have been trying to lay low on this thing for a while, because I knew as soon of all the breathless reports started about Michael Brown’s death, more facts – and let’s stress that, FACTS – would come to light that would blow the immediate narrative right out of the water. The initial collision between alleged lawbreaker and law enforcer is of little consequence to me, because criminals and cops collide daily. It is the inevitable aftermath caused by cultural sicknesses that are now embedded in several groups of assholes that I want to discuss.

First group of assholes: the media

Allegiance: A member loyal to the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant waves an ISIS flag in Raqqa

A different view of the man.

Journalist James Foley (he corresponded with me as Jim) has been beheaded by ISIS.  I choose not to remember him from the recent photographs, but as the wonderful young man he was.  As a note to ISIS, I don’t believe a word he had to say while under duress.  I knew him better than you did.  You wasted your time with his confessions, or charges, or whatever you forced him to say.

We first corresponded during my blogging on the war in Afghanistan.  I initiated the conversations with him, but he was very warm in his effusive praise and kindness towards me.  He worked primarily for the Global Post, but did a good bit of embedded independent work.  He was in Kandahar at the time, and politely recommended that I link his blog, A World Of Troubles, which redirects now to Free James Foley.

Jim was kidnapped in Libya early in 2011.  I had also made significant use of his fantastic work in The Five Hundred Meter War.  The U.S. Army later contacted me wanting the rights to use this video in training and analysis, and I directed them to Jim who (I hope) made some money from the work.  He told me that he would gladly sell the rights for a small fee.

I have since reconsidered my position on long distance warfare, and concluded that it isn’t necessarily that the 5.56 mm round is all that ineffective at long distances, but that based on subsequent conversations with various officers, no one (Army or Marine Corps) teaches their men to shoot uphill.  All of their ranges are flat.  Then again, the 5.56 mm round does tend to yaw in flight, which causes problems at long distances.  But Travis Haley has shown us that the 5.56 mm can be effective to beyond 500 yards, and my son qualified at 500 yards as a Marine.

David Frum Blames Militarization of Police on Guns in Hands of "the Policed"

Via avordvet

Awwww, poor thing...... (Though I don't necessarily agree with everything in the article.)

David Frum, formerly a speechwriter for President George W. Bush, is probably thought by many to be a largely "conservative" voice in American politics. Reinforcing that notion, Frum has served on the board of directors of the Republican Jewish Convention which in turn describes itself as "the most important voice on conservative political issues for the Jewish-American community."

If so, it's apparently a brand of "conservatism" that does not seek to "conserve" the right to keep and bear arms, as Frum's Twitter feed commentary on the Ferguson, Missouri unrest demonstrates. Responding to the news that gun shops in the area have been very busy since the police killing of Michael Brown, an unarmed, black 18-year-old, sparked community outrage and racial tension, Frum sarcastically sneered:
Because what's needed now is more weaponry
That is indeed precisely what is needed by those who are not already equipped to defend themselves from looters and violent "protesters," not to mention the occupying army sent to crush them--along, apparently, with anyone else who annoys them.

Kurds Send All-Female Soldiers to Fight ISIS… The Reason Why is Awesome

http://www.foreignpolicy.com/files/130828_cov2-sistersoldiers.jpg

Islamic State jihadists have been terrorizing the people of Iraq, killing thousands and driving religious minorities to take refuge in treacherous mountain regions without supplies.

President Obama, the man largely responsible for the mess going on in the country, has authorized airstrikes in support of efforts being made by Kurdish ground forces to push ISIS terrorists back and reclaim the many cities and towns that have been taken over.

Syrian guerrilla forces have been experiencing success against ISIS, increasing security and improving the quality of life for those in the region, as thousands of volunteers have signed up to be soldiers doing battle on the front lines.

The Kurds have adopted a rather unique strategy for not only eliminating their targets, but also humiliating them along the way.

According to WZ, Kurds are deploying whole units comprised of female fighters to the front line, which has boosted their recruitment numbers, and given them a psychological edge over ISIS. One female fighter explained why the Kurds have decided to put women in the thick of the battle, and it’s sure to make radical Islamists go crazy.

“The jihadists don’t like fighting women, because if they’re killed by a female, they think they won’t go to heaven.”

Huffington Post Reporters Attempt To Fan Racial Tension In Missouri

Language

Huffington Post writers Ryan Grim and Ashley Alman—like their compatriot Ryan “Ear Plugs” Reilly—seem far more intent on ginning up tensions in Missouri than they are merely reporting events on the ground.

On Tuesday, 25-year-old Kajieme Powell took two energy drinks from a St. Louis convenience store and walked out without paying. Moments later, Powell went back into the store, grabbed pastries, and walked back outside. He then threw the items on the ground when confronted by the shopkeeper. The shopkeeper then called police.

Two SLPD officers arrived, and the following took place, as recorded by a witness on his cell phone camera. The witness began filming Powell’s erratic behavior for more than a minute before the police SUV arrived.

A first rule of journalism is to know what you’re talking about. This goes double for broadcast journalists who have occasion to interface with guests. Apparently CNN’s Don Lemon was absent from J school the day they taught this important lesson.

In this exchange with conservative radio host Ben Ferguson Lemon demonstrates that his dislike of guns probably stems in part from his ignorance of them.

In the video, via The Blaze, Ferguson asserts:

Man Pulls Toy Gun In an Attempt To Snatch Child, is Killed By Mother’s Boyfriend

A 38-year-old man who was out on bail “pending court proceedings for being a felon in possession of a firearm, possessing controlled substances for sale and possessing stolen property,” was shot and killed Saturday at his child’s birthday party in a senseless turn of events.
The unidentified 38-year-old victim about 4:30 p.m. went to the Tunnel Road residence of his ex-girlfriend, Amanda Rizer, and became enraged that Matthew Robinson, 32, of Redding was there. The victim and Rizer shared a child in common and Saturday was the child’s first birthday, deputies said.
Robinson told deputies he recently started a relationship with Rizer.
The victim left after an argument, but returned 20 minutes later and said he was going to take the child, deputies said.
Robison [sic] had a .38-caliber handgun that he used to fire a warning shot when the victim advanced on him. Deputies say the victim got what appeared to be a 9mm-handgun from a vehicle and pointed it at Robinson, who, fearing for his safety, shot the victim once in the chest. The victim later died at Mercy Medical Center in Redding.

Shawn Parcells’ credentials, role in Michael Brown autopsy questioned by doctors

 Shawn Parcells (St. Louis Post-Dispatch)

A Kansas City man is now front and center in the controversial shooting death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo. Shawn Parcells owns a company that provides autopsy services, and some in the forensic community are taking issue with his involvement in this or any other case.

Parcells owns National Forensic Autopsy and Recovery Services. He says lawyers for the family of Michael Brown contacted him because of his expertise in gunshot wounds.

“I am a forensic pathologist assistant and medical investigator,” Parcells told FOX 4’s Shannon O’Brien.

However, that’s something of a dubious title according to forensic pathologist Dr. Erik Mitchell.

“That is a degree that does not exist in my knowledge, except in the mind of Shawn Parcells,” Dr. Mitchell said.

Perpetuating the Narrative

 Perpetuating the Narrative

Facts are easily discarded when they get in the way of an appealing narrative.

It is now beyond a shadow of a doubt that the media narrative behind the shooting of Michael Brown is completely false. Brown was no gentle giant, honor student; he did not get attacked out of the blue; he was not surrendering; and he did not die without good reason. But the riots in Ferguson, Missouri, continue unabated and the demands for the indictment of Officer Darren Wilson rise with them.

The media still reports on the rioters as justified protesters fighting against oppression and the wrongful death of a Black martyr. What they are really demonstrating for is an intimidatingly-sized criminal with an incredibly low amount of impulse control and a box of stolen cigars. Their calls for the prosecution of the police officer who shot Brown amounts to a demand that Blacks have the right to steal and attack police without repercussions. Because slavery and Jim Crow, of course.

Strolling Through Holland & Holland’s London Gun Room Collection

Via WiscoDave

 PANO_20140805_125636

Oxford Circus has long been one of the premier shopping centers of London, but if you start walking southwest of that extremely busy crossroads the crowds slowly dissipate and the stores become increasingly expensive. This is the Mayfair area of London, one of the only places where I have seen a Bugatti dealership across the street from an Aston Martin dealership. It’s home to many of the world’s biggest luxury brands. Nestled in the middle of all that opulence is the London headquarters for Holland&Holland, makers of bespoke hunting rifles and shotguns since 1835. Behind the clothing-filled front rooms and down a back staircase of that shop lies one of London’s best kept secrets and the most fascinating assortment of objects I have ever seen.

H&H makes custom guns — firearms designed and made specifically for each buyer to their exacting specifications. Therefore each gun has an intended buyer from the day it’s first laid down, a situation which makes it difficult for a company to accumulate examples of their work over time. To remedy, Holland&Holland have been buying back some of the more historically fascinating examples of their work from their centuries of operation, and has compiled them into their Collection that’s housed in their London gun room. I had the distinct pleasure of spending a few short hours there with Holland&Holland’s technical manager Pat Murphy, whose extensive knowledge of the guns left me nearly speechless

Perry: 'Real possibility' ISIS already in U.S: Warns Obama to destroy terror group before it's too late

Gov. Rick Perry, R-Texas, was invited to Washington, D.C. to speak about immigration; the media showed up in force to hear him address his legal troubles; but the governor ended up issuing a major foreign policy address, calling on President Obama to destroy the terrorist army ISIS before it is too late.

“ISIS is not going to stop. They need to be eliminated, they need to be eliminated now,” said Perry.
He emphatically warned ISIS must be destroyed by airstrikes while the U.S. still has the opportunity to eliminate the group in both Iraq and Syria.

“They’ve seen glimpses of our air power, they must see much more of it,” he advised.

When asked if he thought ISIS may have already crossed America’s porous Southern border, Perry tied the issue of border security directly to national security, warning, “I think there is a very real possibility that they may have already have used that.”

Ex-Marine Gunner: Ferguson Shot Pattern Vindicates Officer Wilson

Via avordvet

Does the unusual shot pattern in the Michael Brown shooting incident tell the tale of whether or not Ferguson Police officer Darren Wilson fired in self-defense? Ex-marine and video blogger Michael Wilson (no relation) certainly thinks so. And he has created a presentation explaining the significance of the pattern and why he thinks the Brown family autopsy ultimately will vindicate Officer Wilson.
Relating his background in marksmanship, Michael Wilson says, “In the Marines I was a corporal;

I was a squad leader and the gunner on a 60-millimeter mortar. And in that position I had to qualify with a pistol.” He then points out that whether you’re in the military or on a police force (or anytime anyone is trained in the use of handguns, for that matter) you’re taught to aim for center mass, the torso, as it’s the easiest target to hit and is where most vital organs are located. For this reason, Michael Wilson was immediately struck by the Brown family autopsy report. He said:

The autopsy showed that Officer Wilson was pulling his shots to the left — his left....

You can see that the shots are going down the right side of Mike Brown’s body, hitting his arm, in fact; if Officer Wilson had pulled his shots any further, he would have missed him altogether. So why was Officer Wilson pulling his shots to the left?

Note also here that the 6’4”, 290-pound Brown’s torso was a very large target.

Having said this, it’s harder hitting targets with a handgun than most people think (it’s not like in the movies), and, when under the stress of a life or death situation and facing a moving assailant, hitting your target is more difficult still. Yet if this were the cause of Officer Wilson’s inaccuracy, or were he just a bad shot, his off-target grouping would be random. But this was not the case — again, there was a definite pattern. What does it mean?

Michael Wilson explains. He mentions “Josie,” the friend of Officer Wilson who called into The Dana Show on NewsTalk 97.1 KTFK, gave the officer’s account of events, and said that Brown had punched Officer Wilson in the face. This certainly explains the injury Officer Wilson suffered, an orbital blowout fracture of the left eye. Michael Wilson then connects the dots further, saying that if Brown was right-handed, and most people are, the left side of the face is precisely where he would have struck the officer. He then gets down to brass tacks:

So, here’s why his shots went off to the left. They have the fight, he [Officer Wilson] gets punched in the face, and if you’ve ever had a black eye, you know that not only does it hurt, but your vision automatically gets blurry. And you start squinting.... And so in order to see straight, you kind of tilt your head and cock it a little bit to the side. You can’t help it; it’s automatic; it’s just part of being human. And that means that when you’re firing a pistol, it’s automatically going to pull the pistol in the same direction. In this case, to the left.

GOP Rep: ISIS, Mexican Drug Cartels Are 'Talking to Each Other'

Wednesday on Newsmax TV's "America's Forum," Rep. Ted Poe (R-TX) was asked if there is any current interaction between ISIS and Mexican drug cartels he said "yes" and added they are "talking to each other."

The member of the House Judiciary Committee on Crime, Terrorism and Homeland Security said, "In my opinion, yes there seems to be a talking to each other"

He added, "The drug cartels use the same operational plan as terrorist groups do ... They kill their opponents, they behead their opponents, they brag about it and they have operational control of many portions of the southern border of the United States. They're vicious as some of these other terrorist organizations."

Is this the face of the next Muslim terrorist?

 blue_eyes

The Western world is outraged after terrorists beheaded U.S. journalist James Foley and are now threatening the life of another American if President Barack Obama doesn’t end military operations in Iraq – but a high-profile military analyst warns things could get worse because Americans have gotten far too comfortable and may soon begin seeing the rise of the “blonde-haired, blue-eyed Muslim terrorist.”

“We’re too comfortable in this country,” said retired Navy Capt. Chuck Nash, who served more than 25 years as a naval aviator, including in temporary liaison billets ashore in Turkey and northern Iraq. “We’ve got large two oceans that have protected us. We’ve got a sieve on our southern border. There is a lot going on in the world, and we were just faced with the brutality of it. We have to realize there are just some bad people on this earth.”

Pentagon: Disclosure of Foley Rescue Attempt 'Makes Our Job Harder'

U.S. Special Forces attempted to free James Foley, the American journalist beheaded by the Islamic State (ISIS), earlier this summer, but Foley and other American hostages thought to have been at the location inside Syria were not there.

Pentagon spokesman Rear Adm. John Kirby revealed Wednesday night that several dozen Special Forces members landed inside Syria at a location where intelligence had indicated the Americans were being held.

But The New York Times reported that some Defense officials were outraged that the mission had been revealed. One told the Times that the militants now knew the Americans’ desire and willingness to try to rescue the hostages. That would likely make any new missions very difficult.

The new details include things that ISIS is not likely to have known
