VMFA Update - "But No More Than That..."!

VETERANS VOTED TO DEED LAND FOR MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS IN '33
By Ellen Robertson (Richmond Times-Dispatch November 11, 1993)

"The R.E. Lee Camp of United Confederate Veterans voted to deed a chunk of the Confederate Soldiers' Home grounds at Grove Avenue and the Boulevard as a site for a state museum of fine arts 60 years ago this week.

The Veterans approved a site of about 300 feet fronting the Boulevard and a 175-foot strip along Grove Avenue for what would become the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, a structure to cost $250,000.

But no more than that, the veterans emphasized. They still hoped the rest of the property could be developed as a Confederate memorial park.

Gov. Garland Pollard said work on the museum would begin immediately."

FOLLOW THE MONEY TO THE ARTICLE V CONVENTION

I'm conflicted as I don't understand why Michal Farris, the co-founder of both HSLDA and Patrick Henry College , would back this if it would be detrimental.

BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR.....seems like the apt phrase for this.
The Convention of States / Aritcle V Consitutional Convention / Con Con is appealing to people through deception. That is a fact.  And that is the tragedy of it.

Digging deeper into the Convention of States, I find that there is a Texas billionaire named Leo Linbeck III, who is the champion of the misnamed Fair Tax. Actually, his father who passed away recently, began that scheme, but his son, Linbeck III, is still in the Fair Tax game, only this time through the COS / Article V proposition.

In the midst of upper economic echelons and now in the midst of middle class, disgruntled taxpayers, Mr. Linbeck has found he can manipulate politicians, and policies with his fortune. Sadly, I find some of my conservative tea party friends being sucked into the whirling toilet bowl he is stirring up.  I've been told bysome of them that the Fair Tax is why they want the Convention of States / Constitutional Convention.  I wondered why the Con Con was going to be bringing in the Fair Tax, so I went looking for answers.  Mr. Leo Linbeck III is that answer.

Knife

Only a fool brings a knife to a gunfight, we all know that. But, a good knife is like a good friend. I asked Mayme's boyfriend to make me a knife off a design I had been mulling around in my head.

I wanted a knife that obviously was sharp, but stout enough to do multiple extreme factors, ie: climb frozen waterfall in Hocking Hills (accomplished that in 1981 with two store-bought Buck knives), gut anything one could think of, and with the capability of holding my weight if repelling gear malfunctioned and I was forced to vertical climb. The boy brought it over tonight, and although we still have to take a bit off the snout, it is quite the piece, and I am proud of him and honored that he gave me everything I asked for.

If you slip the para cord lanyard under the small knot there is a 7 foot unbelievably strong extension of one's arm, the thing is so balanced you can actually throw it and stick it, or swing it like a bolo.

Wouldn't win a gun fight, but, I wouldn’t want to be on the wrong end of it, started with 1/2 inch heat treated steel plate.

Kobani still holds out

On Syria's front line against ISIS: Mahmoodin

Bolstered by intensified U.S.-led coalition airstrikes targeting militants from the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), Kurdish militiamen fought pitched street battles Wednesday with the extremists in a Syrian Kurdish border town near Turkey, making small advances, activists and officials said.

Elsewhere in Syria, in a stark reminder of the country's wider civil war, a Syrian lawmaker was gunned down in the central province of Hama - the latest assassination to target a figure linked to President Bashar Assad's government.

In the border town of Kobani, members of the Kurdish People's Protection Units, or YPG, were making progress against Sunni militants, hours after the U.S.-led coalition stepped up airstrikes in and around the town, said Asya Abdullah, a Syrian Kurdish leader.

The U.S. Central Command said Wednesday that U.S. military forces conducted 18 airstrikes against ISIS targets near Kobani in the past 24 hours, destroying multiple fighting positions and striking 16 ISIS-occupied buildings. On Tuesday, the Pentagon had said that 21 airstrikes against ISIS targets near Kobani overnight Monday marked the largest number there in a 24-hour period since the air campaign in Syria began last month.

"Bear tastes good."

State wildlife officials here are trying to get the word out: Bear tastes good.

Hunters who bring in a bear to be weighed when the season starts in December will even receive a cookbook with recipes like “bear satay on a stick” and “grilled bear loin with brown sugar paste.”

“It’s tasty,” Kelcey Burguess, the bear project leader and principal biologist for the state’s Division of Fish and Wildlife, said of the meat. “It tastes like beef. I like cooking the ribs slowly.”

The object is not really to get more people to cook bear; it is to get more people to shoot one.

10-Year-Old Boy Charged With Homicide As Adult For Killing 90-Year-Old Woman

“I killed that lady,” the 10-year-old boy told a Pennsylvania state trooper, after a 90-year-old woman was found dead in the home of the boy’s grandfather. Tristen Kurilla made the chilling confession Saturday, police said, after his mother brought him to the Pennsylvania State Police Barracks in Honesdale, about 140 miles north of Philadelphia.

Now, Kurilla is being held at the Wayne County Correctional Facility and is being charged as an adult with criminal homicide, the Wayne County district attorney’s office said. The boy admitted to grabbing a wooden cane, holding it against 90-year-old Helen Novak’s throat for several seconds and punching her in the throat and stomach, according to the police affidavit.

California fixes highway, so why is Marine still jailed? Corrective action supports argument that Tahmooressi's Mexico trip was mistake

 U.S. Marine Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi

Officials in California have confirmed they are making changes to lanes and signage at the San Ysidro port of entry through which travelers can go into Mexico, so one lawmaker is calling for the release of a U.S. Marine who reported taking a wrong turn at that location in March, and ending up behind bars in Mexico.

“The corrective action by a major California state agency to correct a deficiency that has caused an untold number of drivers to enter Mexico mistakenly shores up that Sgt. [Andrew] Tahmooressi claim to have made that mistake due to unclear marking,” Assemblyman Tim Donnelly told WND.

“His mistake was just that, a mistake, not a crime, and he should be released immediately so he can get the treatment he needs for PTSD.”

The Secret Casualties of Iraq’s Abandoned Chemical Weapons

Via avordvet

Chemical Weapons Found by American Forces in Iraq

The soldiers at the blast crater sensed something was wrong.
From 2004 to 2011, American and Iraqi troops repeatedly encountered, and at times were wounded by, chemical weapons that were hidden or abandoned years earlier.
It was August 2008 near Taji, Iraq. They had just exploded a stack of old Iraqi artillery shells buried beside a murky lake. The blast, part of an effort to destroy munitions that could be used in makeshift bombs, uncovered more shells.

Two technicians assigned to dispose of munitions stepped into the hole. Lake water seeped in. One of them, Specialist Andrew T. Goldman, noticed a pungent odor, something, he said, he had never smelled before.

He lifted a shell. Oily paste oozed from a crack. “That doesn’t look like pond water,” said his team leader, Staff Sgt. Eric J. Duling.

The specialist swabbed the shell with chemical detection paper. It turned red — indicating sulfur mustard, the chemical warfare agent designed to burn a victim’s airway, skin and eyes.

All three men recall an awkward pause. Then Sergeant Duling gave an order: “Get the hell out.

Secession Doctrine Taught by New Englanders

 Josiah Quincy III

Historically the Democratic party, created in 1792 as a Southern reaction to Northern control of the federal government, was so successful that every major political party since has been a reaction to it.  The Federalists of New England, once unseated in 1800, reacted by formulating plans to secede from the union.

Secession Doctrine Taught by New Englanders

“The final political phenomenon to arise out of the North-South competition of the 1790s was the doctrine of Secession. It represented the death rattle of the Federalist party.

The pivotal year was 1800 when the Democratic leaders [Thomas] Jefferson and [Aaron] Burr succeeded in putting together a coalition of the have-nots of the country – the agriculturalists of the South and the proletarians of the Northern cities.  They won control of the nation.  They took the Senate with eighteen seats to fourteen Federalist, and the House with sixty-nine seats to thirty-six Federalist.

They took the presidency by an equally comfortable margin, although the quirks of the Electoral College arrangement caused Jefferson and his vice presidential candidate Burr to receive an equal number of electoral votes for President.  The Federalist party survived another sixteen years, although it would never again won control the House, Senate, or presidency.

It did not take defeat well. Barely three years after the Democratic rout, Northern Federalists began arguing for the secession of the New England States from the Union.  It would be their sullen tom-tom call, a summons to defect, until they passed from the national scene in 1816.

There was nothing understated about their secessionist position. It was widespread, and if it could not be done peaceably, they said, it should be done violently.

Listen to one of the many secessionists, Josiah Quincy III, scion of the New England Quincy’s, future mayor of Boston and future president of Harvard University. In 1811 he was a thirty-eight year-old congressman standing opposed to the admission of Louisiana as a State.

“It is my deliberate opinion,” he said, “that if this bill passes, the bonds of this union are virtually dissolved, that the States which compose it are free from their moral obligations, and that as it will be the right of all, so it will be the duty of some to prepare, definitely, for a separation; amicably if they can; violently if they must.”

One man who listened carefully that year was a freshman congressman from South Carolina.  He was John C. Calhoun, who had been taught the secessionist doctrine in the law schools of New England, who had listened to it in the Congress, and who would one day carry it back down South . . .

Meanwhile, it is an unfair strike that history has identified the South with secession when in fact the earliest and clearest argument against it were proposed by Jefferson and Madison [, both Southerners]. The creators of secession doctrine, and the teachers of it from 1800 to 1817, were New England Federalists.”

Inland M1 Carbine is back!

 InlandM1

MKS Supply, LLC announces that production of the original Inland brand M1 Carbine is again underway and the iconic .30 caliber, World War II-era M1 Carbine will be marketed exclusively by MKS Supply, LLC.

These newly manufactured M1 Carbines are 100 percent American-made with 100 percent American parts. These are faithful copies of the original Inland Manufacturing carbines, right down to part construction and stampings. They even include the arsenal-stamped stock markings known as cartouches!

In fact, these carbines are so precisely copied from the original specifications that the company marks the underside of the barrel and the inside of the stock of these current models to prevent potential fraudsters from passing these new carbines as mint WWII originals, or using these new-production parts to “upgrade” original models (these markings are not visible unless the action is removed from the stock).

ISIS is the leading supplier of the most potent drug in the world

Question:  How would ISIS cross the "air gap" between their conquests in Iraq and Saudi Arabia?

Answer:  It already has.

ISIS has become the leading supplier of the most potent drug in the world:

Zealotry

Further, Saudi Arabia is almost certainly one of their leading customers and they brought it on themselves.

More than half of Saudi Arabia's men are under 21 and most of those boys have been given a religious education in a strict literalist tradition.  Further, they've been kept in time capsule, protected from many of the changes influences the rest of us.

To young men like this, ISIS is pure historical heroin.  It's a jihad in the medieval tradition (made successful by using the techniques of open source insurgency).

Stricken nurse flew U.S. airline: CDC tracking down passengers for possible exposure

Only hours after the Centers for Disease Control reassured the American public the health-care procedures at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas were adequate to contain Ebola, CDC announced a second health-care worker who treated the “index patient,” Thomas Eric Duncan from Liberia, has been diagnosed with the disease.

At an early morning press conference in Dallas, hospital officials admitted they are “learning as they go” as concerns mount nationwide that the CDC may not have fully understood how Ebola is transmitted and that CDC protocols may be inadequate.

CDC, nevertheless, said in an early morning press release Wednesday, “As we have said before, because of our ongoing investigation, it is not unexpected that there would be additional exposures.”
The nurse, however, identified as 29-year-old Amber Jay Vinson, took a flight from Cleveland to Dallas/Fort Worth on Monday, the day before she reported symptoms.
