A Goldsboro-based organization headed by the Rev. William Barber this year received nearly $350,000 of your tax dollars. Yes, that William Barber – the ringleader of highly partisan political protests against the General Assembly the past few years.

The protests were dubbed “Money Mondays” by the Civitas Institute after research exposed the fact that organizing groups received more than $100 million in direct state grants in recent years.

Many of those groups have had their taxpayer funds cut off by the legislature, but Barber’s group, “Rebuilding Broken Places Community Development Corporation (RBPCDC)” was awarded a $338,000 grant from the Department of Public Instruction this year.

Greetings Patriots!  We have much to share about the incredible turnout, events, and experiences during the Lee-Jackson Holiday weekend in Lexington, Virginia.  This will be the first of several reports, in an attempt to inform, inspire, and properly thank all of those who had a part in making it the biggest and best ever!

FLAGGING FRIDAY:

Ever since the City Council voted to ban ALL flags from city light pole flag stands (except the US flag, Va State Flag and non-existent Lexington City Flag), the Va Flaggers have taken to the streets of Lexington on the State Lee-Jackson Day Holiday, which is the Friday closest to Robert E. Lee's birthday.  This Friday, BY FAR, was our best ever, with more folks attending, and more opportunities to educate and change the hearts and minds of those willing to listen, and stand up to those who refuse to hear or accept the truth regarding Lee and Jackson, their flags, and the men who fought and died beneath them.

British army stopped by a miraculous rising of rivers, saving American after the Battle of Cowpens

“The bloody butcher” is what colonists called British Colonel Banastre Tarleton. He let his dragoons bayonet and hack hundreds of surrendering Americans at Buford’s Massacre during the Battle of Waxhaw, May 29, 1780.

In January of 1781, Colonel Banastre Tarleton led 1,200 of Britain’s best troops, consisting of British dragoons, regulars, highlanders and loyalists, in a hot pursuit of the Americans.

American General Daniel Morgan led Colonel Banastre Tarleton into a trap – the Battle of Cowpens, JANUARY 17, 1781.

The Americans took a stand with a river behind them, leaving them no opportunity to retreat.

New GOP Border Security Bill Removes Border Fences

The new border bills drafted by Republican leaders require the actual removal of at least 66 miles of weak border fencing between Mexico and the United States.

The border bills also only require for the construction of 27 miles of effective double-layer fencing along the 2,000-mile border.

“It is a remarkable that the direction of our progress is going backwards, from a goal of building 700 miles of double-layer border fencing [in 2006] to only 27 miles [in 2015],” said a Hill staffer who opposes the leaders’ bills.

“Where the double-layer fence has been put in, it has worked spectacularly. The public is with us 80, 90 percent on this issue,” he added.

North Carolina: 'Lost Colony' mystery unraveling? Map and 'wares' new evidence

Are North Carolina and the “Lost Colony” connected more than previously thought? A clue found only several years ago on an ancient map is being examined, and may be key to unraveling the mystery.

In any case, it has experts looking to a new location that is yielding evidence of 16th century domestic wares. WRAL News reports this Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2015, that if this map’s indication proves correct, it might be the area where many families settled years ago.

With his famous facial hair and trademark white suit, Colonel Sanders is one of the most recognizable people on the planet. But before the Colonel came up with his world-famous recipe of 11 herbs and spices, the man was running a gas station in Corbin, Kentucky. However, the Colonel almost never opened a single restaurant thanks to a trigger-happy business rival who wanted to send Sanders to the local cemetery.

In the pantheon of fast food mascots, Colonel Sanders is right up there with Ronald McDonald and The Burger King. However, unlike most of his peers, Sanders was a real guy. Born in 1896, Harland Sanders led an interesting life, working as everything from a small-time lawyer to a ferryboat operator. Eventually, he wound up in Corbin, Kentucky running a Shell gas station on a nasty stretch of highway known as “Hell’s Half-Acre."

The region was full of bootleggers, and there were plenty of gunfights to keep things lively. Wanting to protect his family and business, Sanders kept a gun beneath his cash register and a shotgun near his bed. But really, Sanders didn’t need to worry about desperadoes. Instead, he had to keep an eye on his rival down the street, a man named Matt Stewart. Stewart ran his own gas station, and as the two were competing for customers, they didn’t exactly get along.

Generals conclude Obama backed al-Qaida

The Obama White House and the State Department under the management of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton “changed sides in the war on terror” in 2011 by implementing a policy of facilitating the delivery of weapons to the al-Qaida-dominated rebel militias in Libya attempting to oust Moammar Gadhafi from power, the Citizens Commission on Benghazi concluded in its interim report.

In WND interviews, several members of the commission have disclosed their finding that the mission of Christopher Stevens, prior to the fall of Gadhafi and during Stevens’ time as U.S. ambassador, was the management of a secret gun-running program operated out of the Benghazi compound.

The Obama administration’s gun-running project in Libya, much like the “fast and furious” program under Eric Holder’s Justice Department, operated without seeking or obtaining authorization by Congress.

WND reported Monday that in exclusive interviews conducted with 11 of the 17 members of the commission, it is clear that while the CCB is still enthusiastic to work with Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., chairman of the House Select Committee on Benghazi, and hopeful that Boehner is serious about the investigation, various members of the CCB, speaking on their own behalf and not as spokesmen for the commission, are expressing concerns, wanting to make sure the Gowdy investigation is not compromised by elements within the GOP.

In the wake of the Fox News apology for a guest expert’s on-air claims regarding Muslim “no-go zones” in Europe, an international clamor has ensued with condemnation of Fox, claims that Muslim immigrants really do want to assimilate, and a threat by the mayor of Paris to sue the cable network for “insulting” the great city

There’s only one problem: Europe is full of Muslim “no-go” zones, which have been documented, lamented, reported on and openly discussed for years.

President Barack Obama in his State of the Union speech said, “The verdict is clear, middle class economics works.” Obama said lots of words about how the U.S. economy has improved, but he avoided the “numbers” regarding how or if that improvement had reached the middle class. If the president had used the “numbers,” he would have to explain why real middle class paychecks hit a 50 year low on his watch.

Christian School Forced to Close As Inspectors Brand Children ‘Bigots’ for Not Knowing What a Muslim Is

Inspectors have labelled pupils at a Christian school bigots and forced it to close after a young boy gave the wrong answer when asked what a Muslim was. Teachers at the school say he referenced terrorism in his answer, but argued that one child’s throwaway answer was no ground for closing the whole school.

Durham Free School, which currently educates 94 pupils aged between 11 and 13, was praised by former education secretary Michael Gove when it opened in September 2013, the Daily Mail has reported.

But inspectors visiting the school last November, after the new guidelines encouraging inspectors to rate schools on how they promote ‘British values’, deemed the school to have failed on a wide range of factors. “Standards are low and progress is inadequate. Students’ achievement is weak”, inspectors wrote.

America's poorest county: Proud Appalachians who live without running water or power in region where 40% fall below poverty line

It was a county formed 19 years before the Civil War.

But in the towns lying between borders in Owsley, in the coal fields of eastern Kentucky, a portrait of Americans shows a community that appears frozen in time, where many still live without water or electricity. 

According to the 2010 U.S. Census, the Appalachian county has the lowest median household income in the states - a staggering 41.5 per cent of residents falling below the poverty line.

Job shortages hit the region hard due to declines in demand for coal, lumber and tobacco; and the community of 4,700 is struggling for work.

The U.S. Census Bureau considers low income roughly $45,000 a year for a family of four. In Owsley, the median household income is $19,351 - the lowest in the country outside of Puerto Rico.

Italy: Immigrants Smash Statue of Virgin Mary and Urinate on It

Just days after the Charlie Hebdo attack in Paris, a band of five young immigrants desecrated a statue of the Virgin Mary at the parish of San Barnaba in the Italian city of Perugia, breaking it and urinating on it.

The pastor of the church, Father Alessandro Scarda, said that the vandals broke the statue in two and began “kicking it like a soccer ball,” after which they “urinated on the two pieces, which were later recovered, cleaned and glued.” The statuette has been returned to its grotto, a site where locals often gather in prayer.

When the youths arrived, a man was praying at the foot of the statue, holding the photo of his deceased wife.  The assailants ripped the photo from his hand before turning on the statue of the “Madonnina.”

Fulton County, N.Y. is home to a strong hunting and fishing tradition. Guns are everywhere, but life isn’t easy.

Temperatures are often well below zero, and snow piles drift up so high against your home that you have to go to the second floor to be able to look outside a window. Jobs are scarce since the leather industry exited a few decades ago. Taxes are high, and it seems the government solution to the unemployment problem is to move people to public assistance.

It is the perfect example of a bad state government imposing its will on a people that don’t need advice from Albany politicians that have never set foot into the county. The people there want to be able to care for themselves.

SA: Zim to grab more land from remaining whites - Mugabe’s VP

Zimbabwean government will soon intensify its land grabs, targeting the country’s remaining white farmers and those with multiple farms, acting president Emmerson Mnangagwa has reportedly said.
According to the Newsday, Mnangagwa said there was need to resuscitate the country’s agro-based economy so that Zimbabweans could have food on the table.

"Those with multiple farms, we will take them, the few whites on farms, we will look into that and those with big farms, we will cut to size," Mnangagwa was quoted as saying.

Why ISIS is killing teen boys

 

Here's some interesting outliers.  Information that isn't easy to parse.  Over the last week, local ISIS forces have:

• Publicly executed 13 teens in Mosul who were watching a soccer game (Iraq vs. Jordan).  
• Rounded up 15 teen boys for raising pigeons as a hobby in Diyala.  They executed three of them and burned the birds.
