Patrick Henry

A good quote for the paleo bloggers here like -----:

"For Bradford, Patrick Henry was the age's greatest prophet of political decentralization. An opponent of ratification, Henry strongly advised his fellow Southerners not to make a political alliance with gnostic New Englanders. Patrick Henry was the true spokesman of the American Revolution, the electrifying orator who energized the resistance to the Stamp Act and other regressions by King George III.

Henry viewed the Revolutionary War as a matter of self-defense  and self-preservation; simply the right of the colonies to have self-government. As Russell Kirk noted, the war did not represent a 'revolution made' but one prevented. The real revolutionary was King George III and his attempts to deny the colonies liberties they had long enjoyed under English law. Henry, however, feared the Federalists' constitution would upend the gains of the war. Their document would lead to the 'divinization of the state' with 'men living for government" and government itself 'existing for the sake of ideology alone.'

A 'remote, arbitrary, potentially unfriendly' government might take hold. Patrick Henry's America, Bradford observed, did not 'exist to pursue certain military, economic, moral or philosophical objectives.' Rather, it was comprised of people 'living privately in communities, within the ambit of family and friends; living under the eye of God out of the memory of their kind.' While Dickinson recoiled at the 'horror of a government forever performing experiments,' Henry held the same feelings for a 'totally poltiicized world.'"

"This entity we call government consumed 43% of all economic activity within the United States of America as of 2009. The labor market participation rate is less than 60%, and the state's relationship to the economy is increasingly parasitic. Its economic and political reports, news and forecasts are suspect, and the truth value always severely lacking, as it engages in propaganda. In every meaningful sense it's a government analogous to that described in the Declaration of Independence, which has "sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people, and eat out their substance."

Today the law is used as a weapon against dissidents who face selective persecution / prosecution for holding to the wrong ideas, or dissenting against the status quo. The tax man is a common weapon against targeted individuals. As the Roman historian Tacitus declared, "The more corrupt the state the more numerous the laws." Statistically the odds of violating any number of arbitrary rules / regulations remains a reality as Harvey Silvergate manifest in Three Felonies A Day: How the Feds Target the Innocent (Encounter Books, 2011).

The biggest rhetorical defenders Constitution of the U.S. in American legislatures are typically among the greatest enemies of a Constitution of limited authority and power as crafted by the framers and understood by the ratifiers circa 1787-1790. Making government 'sanctified' and preserving the myth that we live in continuity to the Founders' government is the ideological means of forging the chains of tyranny over Americans. We live in the wake of what Aristotle would characterize as 'a revolution within forms' where we have the shell of a constitutional republic, but the practical substance of autocracy and elite rule."

Virginia Flaggers Lee-Jackson Weekend Report Part II -- Washington & Lee University

Saturday morning, we gathered at Stonewall Jackson cemetery for a memorial service for General Jackson. Once again, God smiled on the Confederates gathered to honor Lee & Jackson with beautiful weather sunny, breezy, and temperatures near 50 degrees!  A large crowd was on hand for the service, and those in attendance paid respects to the General through prayer, singing hymns, and laying memorial wreaths.

Immediately following the service, we formed up for a parade through Lexington.  Our unit was led by Generals Lee and Jackson, a Flagger color guard, and followed by the largest group of flaggers we have ever had attend the event including SCV, UDC, OCR and Mechanized Cavalry members from across the Commonwealth and the country!  It seemed to us that there were about twice as many folks gathered to watch the parade as there had been last year as well.  It was truly a glorious site, to see the parade stretched down main street, and the street filled with flags and supporters of Confederate heritage. Along the route, we sang Dixie, handed out stick flags, and received the support and well wishes of all who had gathered.

ISIS now controls large swathes of Syria and Iraq, having taken over a considerable amount since last year

Three female lawyers have reportedly been executed by Islamic State militants as the UN warns that educated women in Iraq are especially at risk.

Today, the UN human rights office condemned numerous executions of civilians in the country by ISIS and said the jihadist group is showing a ‘monstrous disregard for human life’.

A black Vanderbilt University professor’s op-ed critical of Islamic terrorism has touched off a wave of protest by Muslim students and other critics.

The op-ed author is Carol Swain, a longtime professor of law and political science at Vanderbilt and a self-proclaimed political conservative. Her op-ed, entitled “Charlie Hebdo attacks prove critics were right about Islam,” appeared in The Tennessean (Nashville’s main newspaper) on Jan. 15.

Swain, who opposes burqas and advocates stronger efforts at assimilation for American Muslims, argued that radical Islam “poses an absolute danger to us and our children unless it is monitored better than it has been under the Obama administration.”

In response, Muslim students, led by Vanderbilt undergraduate Farishtay Yamin, took great offense.

How Putin Is Reinventing Warfare

How Putin Is Reinventing Warfare

The Kremlin, according to Barack Obama, is stuck in the "old ways," trapped in Cold War or even 19th century mindsets. But look closer at the Kremlin’s actions during the crisis in Ukraine and you begin to see a very 21st century mentality, manipulating transnational financial interconnections, spinning global media, and reconfiguring geo-political alliances. Could it be that the West is the one caught up in the "old ways," while the Kremlin is the geopolitical avant-garde, informed by a dark, subversive reading of globalization?

Rebels Confident That Mariupol Will Fall in the Next Few Days

The VSN is confident that the port of Mariupol will fall in the next few days. Repeatedly, the DNR leadership staked its claim to Mariupol, and now its sending troops there again. In the last 24 hours, clashes intensified near the city…. a key port and railway junction, a major motorway crossing point, along with being a major industrial centre.

Last year, during the counteroffensive, the VSN didn’t capture the city more for political and not military reasons… the advance to Mariupol halted because of orders from the political leadership, not due to the resistance offered by the so-called “National Guard”. The authorities ordered a halt, despite the fact that control of Mariupol virtually opens a direct route to the Crimea… the only major town between Mariupol and the Crimea, Berdyansk, lacks any significant geographical advantage for a defender.

Killer of white teens mocks victims’ families at sentencing, says ‘black lives matter (Video)

 Fine upstanding men...............

After being given an opportunity to address the families of two murdered white teens, one of the black killers instead mockingly used the occasion to “apologize” for the deaths of Aiyanna Jones, Michael Brown, and Eric Garner during his sentencing hearing on Wednesday.

Fredrick Young, 25, and Felando Hunter, 23, were found guilty of robbing, torturing, and killing 18-year-old Jacob Kudla and 17-year-old Jourdan Bobbish in 2012, starting a “two-week rash of violence and killings that involved a total of seven men,” as reported at mLive. According to MyFoxDetroit, it all started when Young and Hunter “visited an uncle’s house, then went to a gas station looking to buy drugs.”

MIT Climate Scientist: Global Warming Believers a ‘Cult’

An MIT professor of meteorology is dismissing global-warming alarmists as a discredited “cult” whose members are becoming more hysterical as emerging evidence continues to contradict their beliefs.

During an appearance on this writer’s radio show Monday, MIT Professor emeritus Richard Lindzen discussed the religious nature of the movement.

“As with any cult, once the mythology of the cult begins falling apart, instead of saying, oh, we were wrong, they get more and more fanatical. I think that’s what’s happening here. Think about it,” he said. “You’ve led an unpleasant life, you haven’t led a very virtuous life, but now you’re told, you get absolution if you watch your carbon footprint. It’s salvation!”

Lindzen, 74, has issued calm dismissals of warmist apocalypse, reducing his critics to sputtering rage.

Obama Used Former Democrat Staffer as Fake "Real Person" in Speech

This woman, whose story of economic recovery was showcased by Obama on last night's State of the Union show, is a former Democratic campaign staffer and has been used by Obama for political events in the past.  It was a total fraudulent presentation.

"Unmentioned in the White House bio of Erler is that she is a former Democratic campaign operative, working as a field organizer for Sen. Patty Murray (D., Wash.).  This also wasn’t the first time the White House used the former Democratic campaign staffer as a political prop. Obama spent a 'day in the life' of Erler in June so that he could have 'an opportunity to communicate directly with the people he’s working for every day.'"

Dashboard camera video appears to show man killed by NJ police raising his hands

It does appear so when you pause and go, but it seems something must have triggered the black Police officer's firing.  Difficult to tell in the video.

With the dashboard camera in their cruiser rolling, police pulled a Jaguar over for running a stop sign on a dark night. But things suddenly turned tense when one of the officers warned his partner that he could see a gun in the glove compartment.

Screaming over and over "Don't you f---ing move!" and "Show me your hands!" at the man in the passenger seat, the officer reached into the car and appeared to remove a silver handgun.

Then, the passenger, despite being warned repeatedly not to move, stepped out of the Jaguar, his hands raised about shoulder level.

The officers opened fire, killing him.

Pro-Life Leader: Supporting Gun Control Part of Being Pro-Life (Not a parody)

Via WiscoDave

AP Photo/Pablo Martinez Monsivais

In a preamble to January 22’s Forty-First annual March for Life in Washington DC, pro-life leader and National Clergy Council president Reverend Rob Schenck stressed that supporting gun control is part of being pro-life.

According to USA Today, Schenck said:
It’s time for the pro-life movement and lovers of life everywhere to expand our vision of the sanctity of human life. It’s past time to defend the full spectrum of life, from the tiny unnamed pre-born in the womb, to an oversized Michael Brown, to a New York cop doing his duty, to any young black male who strays into the path of an armed vigilante with a concealed carry permit.

Women in the Military: Fiat Equality Unwelcome Facts from a Closet

 http://itsybitsysteps.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/breastfeeding-moms.jpg

Sigh. I have just read that a young woman named Sage Santangelo has failed the infantry-trainimg course for Marine officers at Quantico, bringing the rate of female failure to 29 out of 29. As an old hand with thirty years covering the military, I can attest that this vu is getting more deja all the time.

Women have never succeeded at physical things in the military becauese they can't. More on that in a moment.
Santangelo seems a most impressive woman. Any woman who would attempt the TBE course is necessarily impressive. We are not talking pampered Swarthmore brats in Women' Studies. She reports making her first solo lfight at fifteen, climbing most of Colorado's highest peaks, playing goalie on a boy's hockey team. She is Marine material, and has my respect.

But she washed out on day one. Even tough, fiercely determined, highly athletic women can't do it. It isn't their fault. We are born with the equipment we are born with.

AK-47s Soon to Be Made in the United States

American gun enthusiasts will soon be able to purchase AK-47s with a twist: They'll be made in the United States.

Because of the sanctions the United States placed on Russia in the wake of that country's actions in Crimea and the Ukraine last year, AK-47s may no longer be purchased direct from the company that makes them, Kalashnikov Concern.

According to CNN, a gun importer in Pennsylvania has therefore decided to start making its own AK-47s under the Kalashnikov brand.

Senate votes that climate change is real: Mississippi Sen. Roger Wicker, the only honest Senator

The Senate on Wednesday voted that “climate change is real and is not a hoax” as Democrats used the Keystone XL pipeline debate to force votes on the politically charged issue ahead of the 2016 elections.

The “hoax” amendment to the pipeline bill from Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) passed 98-1, with only Mississippi Sen. Roger Wicker, the chairman of the Senate Republican campaign arm, voting “no.”

Unexpected Finds at SHOT 2015–NRA Museum Pieces

 1850s chain gun.
 1854 Treeby chain gun.

SHOT Show can be crazy and hectic.  It is loud and crowded with everyone clamoring to get a look at the latest and greatest our industry has to offer.  Today while I was fighting through the crowds on the way to an meeting, I happened upon a happy surprise.  A nice, quiet and not crowded surprise.

Behind the NRA booth on the main floor is a small exhibit of antique and unique firearms.  The item are taken from the NRA museums. Take a look at the pictures and if you are at the show be sure to stop in to check them out.  You will enjoy the history and the escape from the hustle and bustle of the show.

Also, if you are in the area of any of the NRA museums you owe it to yourself to stop in and check them out.  They are in Fairfax, VA, Springfield, MO and Raton, NM.

Joni Ernst Under Fire For Failure To Mention Obama Amnesty In SOTU Response

Via Sioux

 AP Photo/Charlie Neibergall

Worthless politicians.  Boehner probably wrote her speech.

Freshman Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA) is coming under fire for her failure to address what many consider to be one of the biggest constitutional overreaches by a president in U.S. history in her prime time response to President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address on Tuesday night.

Ernst didn’t mention the fact that Obama just weeks earlier announced an executive amnesty for millions of illegal aliens that Obama himself has said at least 22 times over several years he didn’t have the authority to do. She also didn’t note that, largely because of Obama’s big government policies, the nation is $18 trillion in debt.

Recall Any Justice Who Votes for Gay Marriage & 84 Percent Would Ban Abortion After 3 Months

 https://texasteapartypatriots.files.wordpress.com/2014/03/dr-ben-carson-name-calling.jpg?w=620&h=599

While President Obama defined same-sex marriage as a "civil right" in his State of the Union Speech, Republican 2016 presidential contenders are stepping up the pressure on the Supreme Court, which has agreed to hear a case which could make gay marriage legal in all 50 states.

Conservative Dr. Ben Carson called for Congress to recall any Supreme Court judge who votes in favor of gay marriage, while former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee has called on states to not automatically allow gay marriage if the court rules that it is legal.

The overwhelming majority of Americans remain very uncomfortable about abortion, with 84 percent wanting it limited to, at most, the first 90 days of pregnancy, according to a new Knights of Columbus-Marist poll.

Almost seven in 10 (69 percent) who identify themselves as "pro-choice" favor this limit on abortion, the survey found.
