Sen. Whitehouse: Bring RICO Charges against Climate Wrongthink

http://overlawyered.com/wp-content/themes/frank-child/images/overlawyered_new_logo.jpg?a57bb8

Another step toward criminalizing advocacy: writing in the Washington Post, Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) urges the U.S. Department of Justice to consider filing a racketeering suit against the oil and coal industries for having promoted wrongful thinking on climate change, with the activities of “conservative policy” groups an apparent target of the investigation as well. A trial balloon, or perhaps an effort to prepare the ground for enforcement actions already afoot?

Sen. Whitehouse cites as precedent the long legal war against the tobacco industry. When the federal government took the stance that pro-tobacco advocacy could amount to a legal offense, some of us warned tobacco wouldn’t remain the only or final target. To quote what I wrote in The Rule of Lawyers:

ISIS and the Tijuana Drug-Smuggling Tunnels

The United States faces a clear and present danger. It is not theoretical, it is actual. The pieces are in place. The relationships are established. The will and capability have been clearly demonstrated. And, if that’s not enough to keep you up at night, a full dress rehearsal was staged less than a year ago.

Indeed, to be more precise, some half a dozen full dress rehearsals were staged less than a year ago.

My name is Dan Gordon. I am a screenwriter and author by trade, but I am also a Reserve officer in the Israel Defense Forces, and a veteran of six Middle Eastern conflicts, including last summer’s Hamas/Israel terrorist tunnel war, in which Hamas demonstrated their capability to attempt a mass-casualty terrorist attack by means of tunnels dug beneath the internationally recognized border from Gaza into southern Israel.  If you’d like to see what the first one looked like, click here for a link to a video. You will see thirteen Hamas terrorists rising up, like zombies coming out of their graves, in a recently harvested wheat field only a few hundred meters from the children’s house of the civilian agricultural community they intended to attack. Each one of them was armed with anti-tank missiles, machine guns, grenades, thousands of rounds of ammunition, handcuffs, and tranquilizer shots. The latter two were for the men, women and children, civilian hostages, they meant to take, and drag back through the tunnels, into underground cells in Gaza.

The Incredible Entitlement of the Welfare Lobby

Progressive America has a fever and the only solution is more welfare. Celebrities are trying to buy only $29 worth of fair trade arugula at Whole Foods and then taking snapshots of it in a mistaken effort to show how little food stamps buy. Obama is urging more social welfare spending as the answer to the race riots he stirred up across the country by embracing the Ferguson “Hands Up, Don’t Shoot” hoax.

Outraged rich liberals are furiously lecturing the rest of the country on income inequality as if there were no escaping the fact that we’re a society of greedy plutocrats that doesn’t care about the poor.

The illusion of security: Investigators are 95% successful at smuggling weapons past TSA

The TSA is great at hassling little old ladies and 3 year olds. What they're not great at is actually stopping people from smuggling weapons onto planes.

In fact, they really, really, really suck at doing that.

An internal investigation of the Transportation Security Administration revealed security failures at dozens of the nation's busiest airports, where undercover investigators were able to smuggle mock explosives or banned weapons through checkpoints in 95 percent of trials, ABC News learned exclusively.

When Will Climate Scientists Say They Were Wrong?

Via David

Day after day, year after year, the hole that climate scientists have buried themselves in gets deeper and deeper. The longer that they wait to admit their overheated forecasts were wrong, the more they are going to harm all of science.

The story is told in a simple graph, the same one that University of Alabama’s John Christy presented to the House Committee on Natural Resources on May 15.

How I Built a 300 AAC Blackout Suppressor

Roundabout via downeast hillbilly

Warning: You must have a BATFE Form 1 with tax stamp before you start to legally build a suppressor. National Firearms Act (NFA) rules apply and you can do hard prison time for violating the law.
The first step in manufacturing a suppressor is getting permission from the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) by filling out a Form 1 and sending in $200 for a tax stamp. It will take about 5 months to get the tax stamp so send it in early.
Since I had a combo lathe/mill at home that I used for making car parts I already had everything I needed to make a suppressor. I decided to go with an all aluminum "monolithic baffle" design for this 300 Blackout suppressor. The 300 Blackout uses standard .308 size bullets and is very good at sending heavy 220 or 240 grain bullets at subsonic speeds downrange accurately. The 300 Blackout can also be loaded for supersonic and makes an excellent deer rifle.
If I were building a suppressor for .308 supersonic loads I would use at the very minimum steel for the blast baffle (first baffle the bullet encounters). I have also used this suppressor on my Savage .308 rifle using subsonic 175 grain Sierra MatchKing bullets and Trail Boss powder. Subsonic .308 loads are very mild and a thick aluminum blast baffle is fully adequate.

NC guns: "I can hardly wait to throw all of these knuckle draggers intent on taking our state back to the dark ages, out of office."

A gun control group is starting a TV campaign Sunday to pressure N.C. lawmakers into defeating a bill that critics say would allow gun buyers to avoid background checks.

House Bill 562 is scheduled for a vote in the state House of Representatives on Monday night despite the opposition of Gov. Pat McCrory and the N.C. Sheriffs’ Association.

Americans for Responsible Solutions is airing a new 30-second ad on broadcast and cable in what sponsors call a six-figure buy. The group was started by former U.S. Rep. Gabby Giffords, the former Arizona congresswoman shot at a 2011 rally in Tucson.

The ad features former Sheriff Wayne Gay of Wilson County. In 2012, Gay was featured in a campaign ad for McCrory.

Single-serving burn gel

I’m a big fan of the Water Jel burn relief product. This stuff is the most awesome thing in the world for taking the pain out burns. Years ago I made the mistake of picking up a lawnmower by the exhaust manifold. Ow. I literally could not sleep unless my hand was clutching a bag full of ice cubes, the pain and ache was that strong. Nowadays, I slap some of this stuff on it and -presto- the pain goes away. Nothing magical, its just a topical anesthetic, but when you burn yourself, especially on parts of the body that really make you feel it…like fingertips…the stuff is a wonder.

The Anniversary Of A Miracle - Israel's Victory In The Six Day War (Excellent coverage)

Today is the anniversary of a modern miracle, the Israeli victory of the Six Day War, מלחמת ששת הימים, or Milhemet Sheshet Ha Yamim in Hebrew. It saw an outnumbered Israel beat back an attempt at destruction and genocide, reunite Jerusalem, bring the strategic Golan and the historic Jewish homelands of Judea and Samaria back under Israeli sovereignty. It's worth recounting 46 years later, when Israel's mortal enemies once again gather to attempt to destroy her.

Tax the 1% between 85 and 90%

What tax rate should rich people pay?

A working paper by Fabian Kindermann from the University of Bonn and Dirk Krueger from the University of Pennsylvania advocates taxing the highest 1 percent of earners at a marginal tax rate that is “somewhere between 85 and 90 percent.” As reported by Ben Walsh at the Huffington Post:

Stop Obama's Planned Gag Order on Firearm-Related Speech

Via Joe

Excerpt

With the new proposal published on June 3, the State Department claims to be "clarifying" the rules concerning "technical data" posted online or otherwise "released" into the "public domain." To the contrary, however, the proposal would institute a massive new prior restraint on free speech. This is because all such releases would require the "authorization" of the government before they occurred. The cumbersome and time-consuming process of obtaining such authorizations, moreover, would make online communication about certain technical aspects of firearms and ammunition essentially impossible.
