The European Union decided Friday to share 40,000 of the refugees landing in Italy and Greece but foot-dragging and verbal sniping over the move exposed deep divisions about how to deal with Europe's massive migrant influx.

While the size of the challenge is daunting, the EU's response has been underwhelming. 

More than 114,000 migrants fleeing wars or poverty have been plucked from the Mediterranean so far this year as they try to cross in unseaworthy smugglers' boats. Some 2,600 have died or are missing along the route, according to the International Organization for Migration.

Governor Greg Abbott today released the following statement regarding the Supreme Court’s same-sex marriage ruling:

“The Supreme Court has abandoned its role as an impartial judicial arbiter and has become an unelected nine-member legislature. Five Justices on the Supreme Court have imposed on the entire country their personal views on an issue that the Constitution and the Court’s previous decisions reserve to the people of the States.

“Despite the Supreme Court’s rulings, Texans’ fundamental right to religious liberty remains protected. No Texan is required by the Supreme Court’s decision to act contrary to his or her religious beliefs regarding marriage.

“The Texas Constitution guarantees that ‘[n]o human authority ought, in any case whatsoever, to control or interfere with the rights of conscience in matters of religion.’ The First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution guarantees the free exercise of religion; and the Texas Religious Freedom Restoration Act, combined with the newly enacted Pastor Protection Act, provide robust legal protections to Texans whose faith commands them to adhere to the traditional understanding of marriage.

“As I have done in the past, I will continue to defend the religious liberties of all Texans—including those whose conscience dictates that marriage is only the union of one man and one woman. Later today, I will be issuing a directive to state agencies instructing them to prioritize the protection of Texans’ religious liberties.”

Justice Anthony Kennedy, in his majority opinion in Obergefell that declares same-sex marriage a constitutional right, barely mentions the means by which most Americans conduct their weddings — houses of worship. Only on page 27 does Kennedy get around to addressing the connection between church and state, and the assurances in this paragraph are less than compelling, to say the least:

US Supreme Court gives North Carolina 'Choose Life' plates new life

 

A federal appeals court must reconsider whether North Carolina can issue "Choose Life" license plates.

The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday ordered the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals to reconsider its ruling last year that the state could not issue a license plate with an anti-abortion slogan unless it also issued a plate with the opposite point of view.

The order to rehear the case came after the justices ruled 5-4 last week that Texas could refuse to issue Confederate battle flag plates. In that ruling, the Supreme Court said plates are government property and don't have to offer both sides of the debate.

After the murders at Charleston’s Emanuel AME Church by a young white racist, a consensus has been reached on the issue of taking down the Confederate flag from South Carolina’s soldier’s monument, where it has flown since being removed from the state capitol in 2000.

The flag was flown from the capitol only since the early 1960s, when segregationists resurrected what was in fact the Confederate battle flag as their symbol for opposition to desegregation. Other states quickly followed South Carolina’s example.

Evidently, this may not be enough to satisfy the cultural enforcers on the American Left.
Suddenly, anything in our history that is somehow connected with the sin of slavery — and it was a sin against humanity — is fair game to be excised from America’s past. As John Hinderaker writes at Powerline, the Democrats are getting “their crazy on.” First it’s the Confederate flag, then statues, monuments, and our currency that celebrate racists, then perhaps the American flag itself.

Remember those leftists who after 9/11 refused to fly the flag, since they argued it stood for oppression?

Every couple of years the totalitarian socialist Left in America (a.k.a., the Democratic Party and all of its appendages) pretends to be indignant about the existence of the Confederate flag somewhere.  The lapdog cultural Marxist media fall in line, treating the siting of the flag in the same way they would treat the siting of an Ebola victim in a large crowd.  Americans are reminded once again by the New York/New England/Ivy League-educated presstitute class that they should hate Southerners and all things Southern.  As Comedy Central’s Jon Stewart recently whined in faux horror, Southerners “waged war against the United States” government!  Waaaaaaaaah!

The anti-Confederate flag hysteria is only one small part of the Left’s general strategy, however.  It is part of their overriding strategy of diverting the public’s attention away from all the grotesque failures of leftist interventionism, from the welfare state to the government takeover of education to the war on drugs and beyond.  The neocons who run the Republican Party are usually complicit in all of this.

Federal Judge Orders Brady Center to Pay Ammo Dealer’s Legal Fees After Dismissing Lawsuit

A federal judge has ordered that the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence pay the legal fees of an online ammunition dealer it sued for the Aurora movie theater shooting.

The order, which was issued last week, comes after Judge Richard P. Matsch dismissed the gun control group’s suit that sought to hold Lucky Gunner legally responsible for the 2012 shooting. The Brady Center had argued in their suit that the way Lucky Gunner sells ammunition is “unreasonably dangerous and create a public nuisance.”

“A crazed, homicidal killer should not be able to amass a military arsenal, without showing his face or answering a single question, with the simple click of a mouse,” Brady Center’s Legal Action Project Director Jonathan Lowy said at the time. “If businesses choose to sell military-grade equipment online, they must screen purchasers to prevent arming people like James Holmes.”

Judge Matsch disagreed with the Brady Center’s argument. He said the suit was filed for propaganda purposes.

The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in education continue to crumble when they encounter reality. “Not a single junior at Seattle’s Nathan Hale High School showed up to take this spring’s Smarter Balanced tests (SBAC—one version of the COMMON Core standardized tests), according to a school district spokeswoman,” according to the editors at Rethinking Schools.  “Earlier this year, a group of teachers, administrators, parents and students had agreed to boycott the standardized tests, but Seattle Public Schools Superintendent Larry Nyland threatened teachers with the loss of their teachers’ licenses if they didn’t administer the test.”

“Under this pressure, the school’s leaders sent an email to families saying they would give the test after all. But the 280 juniors opted out anyway.”

Alabama Supreme Court orders probate judges to stop issuing same-sex marriage licenses for 25 days

The Alabama state supreme court today issued an order that effectively keeps probate judges from issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples for 25 days.

That's the interpretation of Chief Justice Roy Moore, who recused himself.

Moore said his view of the order is that the U.S. Supreme Court ruling on Friday ending the gay marriage order is stalled in Alabama.

Seven of the nine justices concurred with the order. Only Moore and Supreme Court Justice Greg Shaw joined Moore did not sign on.

The Supreme Court’s Marriage Decision: Communist Goal Realized

While I have written many articles on the topic of the 45 communist goals, it can't be stressed enough that achieving "marriage equality" for homosexuals was definitely one of them. The Supreme Court's decision on Friday, June 26 was no surprise to many of us, and in many ways it was used to continue the moral degradation of our society.

The Obama Administration, as surely we have all seen by now, took the pleasure of flaunting their victory by posting pictures of the White House lit up with the colors of the homosexual's rainbow flag. This was a "stick in your face gesture" as they know that the vast majority of Americans disapprove of the homosexual agenda, and there is an agenda.

This was also a symbolic gesture in the eyes of the left because they view this as the replacement of the old culture with a new one. It was no coincidence, in my opinion, that this redefining marriage decision happened at the same time there was all out war declared on the confederate flag. We are, after all, dealing with communists, whose entire agenda revolves around breaking down the moral standards by which many of us live our lives.

The plate is due to expire on 9-30-15 so it is not eligible to be renewed online at this time. The vehicle will need to be inspected before you can renew the plate. The renewal can be completed within 90 days of the expiration date of the plate so you can renew in July, August or September.

Investigators are searching for one or more accomplices in an attack on a luxury hotel in a Tunisian beach resort that killed at least 38 people, some of them sunbathers on the beach, an official said Sunday.

The father and three roommates of the attacker were detained and being questioned in the capital, Tunis, Interior Ministry spokesman Mohamed Ali Aroui told The Associated Press. The attacker has been identified as Seifeddine Rezgui, a 24-year-old graduate of Tunisia's Kairouan University where he had been living with the other students.

"We are sure that others helped, but did not participate," Aroui said. "They participated indirectly."

Doctors say victim of 6th NC shark attack in two weeks in serious condition

 

A teenager was in serious condition Sunday after being bitten by a shark off North Carolina, the latest in a string of shark attacks that have swimmers in the state gripped by fear.

The 18-year-old victim nearly died after the attack Saturday afternoon on the Outer Banks. It was the second shark attack on the Outer Banks in as many days and the sixth attack off the coast of North Carolina in the past two weeks.

The unidentified young man arrived at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia, in critical risk of dying, a spokeswoman said told The Associated Press Sunday.
