The Moneychanger on the SC fiasco
"Y'all, my heart's about to break. I'm so tired of hearing the Confederate flag blamed for murder and racism and every bad thing by politicians wearing out their knees for votes and people too ignorant of history & truth to argue with.
New Texas Texts: Slavery Was 'Side Issue' of Civil War
Via Bill
As it was and one of about 10 reasons. I like to say that the states had been married for so long that they could not agree on anything anymore, so it was time for a divorce. They couldn't even agree on certain aspects of redoing the Capitol in 1861 which by the way was done with slave labor. :)
About 5 million Texas schoolchildren will get their hands on brand-new social studies textbooks when school starts up again, the Houston Chronicle reports—textbooks that USA Today says are "misleading, racially prejudiced, and, at times, flat-out false." The beef with the new primers: They're in keeping with state education standards adopted in 2010 that gloss over slavery as the main impetus for the Civil War, instead placing it as a peripheral factor behind "sectionalism" and "states' rights," reports the Washington Post.
Slavery was merely a "side issue to the Civil War," one member of the state's board of education said when the standards—which include Moses and Solomon as prime influencers in the founding of our country—were greenlit in 2010.

Chaos erupts in Congress over Confederate flag debate
Via Billy
The uproar came after a resolution was introduced that would have removed the Mississippi state flag, which includes the Confederate banner, from the House side of the Capitol. Instead of putting the matter to a vote, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., referred the matter to a committee.
That move prompted Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., to call for a vote. The House then voted 238-176, largely along party lines, with McCarthy, effectively ending debate on the topic.
"Congress cannot simply rewrite history and strip the Confederate flag from existence," Mississippi Rep. Steven Pallazzo said in a statement. "Members of Congress from New York and California cannot wipe away 150 years of Southern history with sleight-of-hand tactics. I will fight to ensure that this language is not included in any bill signed into law."A chorus of boos and cries of "vote! vote!" erupted in the U.S. House Thursday following a contentious day of hearings related to the Confederate flag.

Video: Morris Dees Praises Confederate Flag
Via comment by Anonymous on “Payback’s a Bitch”
This video was taken before 2000, when the Confederate battle flag still flew over the dome of the South Carolina Capitol. The founder of the Southern Poverty Law Center, Morris Dees, comments on the flag at about the 40-second point.
I wouldn't say praise, but worth the look.

The Confederate Flag Needs To Be Raised, Not Lowered
Via Billy
Ladies and gentlemen, I submit that what we see happening in the United States today is an apt illustration of why the Confederate flag was raised in the first place. What we see materializing before our very eyes is tyranny: tyranny over the freedom of expression, tyranny over the freedom of association, tyranny over the freedom of speech, and tyranny over the freedom of conscience.
History revisionists flooded America’s public schools with Northern propaganda about the people who attempted to secede from the United States, characterizing them as racists, extremists, radicals, hatemongers, traitors, etc. You know, the same way that people in our federal government and news media attempt to characterize Christians, patriots, war veterans, constitutionalists, et al. today.

In 1864, Confederate General Patrick Cleburne warned his fellow southerners of the historical consequences should the South lose their war for independence. He was truly a prophet. He said if the South lost, “It means that the history of this heroic struggle will be written by the enemy. That our youth will be trained by Northern school teachers; will learn from Northern school books their version of the war; will be impressed by all of the influences of History and Education to regard our gallant debt as traitors and our maimed veterans as fit subjects for derision.” No truer words were ever spoken.

The background scenery is about in place and the actors who had to change outfits for Act 2 are readying to take the stage.........
It's just been Intermission for the last 150 years.....
I hope everybody has plenty of food and drink on hand, because Act 2 promises to deliver a lot of audience participation,...wanted to, or not.

The 2015 Cry and Howl Top 20 Conservative Blog Award
Via comment by Steve on Contest Entry: Bud’s First Gunship And The Origin ...
Okay, here we go! I finally got around to making the 2015 Cry and Howl Top 20 Conservative Blog Award. A lot of sites such as Drudge, Bad Blue, Hot Air, American Thinker, etc. get plenty of recognition. There’s the Fabulous 50 Award, and for the list of winners for 2014 click HERE. There are a lot of great sites listed. However the list nearly always has the same folks. I think it’s about time conservative bloggers who may not be as well known, are recognized for what they do to combat the wiles of people trying to bring America down.
Thanks to a few folks who read humble Cry and Howl and gave their input, alas, we have 20 blogs more than deserving of this award. Personally, I want to thank all for continuing the fight. Whether it’s exposing the insidiousness of those in power or simply providing comfort and /or an encouraging word, we’re all in this together and I sincerely appreciate everyone.

I was living in Lai Khe, South Vietnam and working as a crew chief/door gunner on a Huey helicopter with an Army Assault Helicopter Company. I did this from January, 1966 to September, 1968.
In the words of one my pilots, years later, “it was the best we ever were.” . . .
I started out on slicks, the UH-1D which were used as the troop transports. I spent my first six months flying in formations of 5, 10, 20 and sometimes even more helicopters carrying troops into landing zones which resulted in frequently coming under fire.
Sometimes, a particularly highly motivated group of Viet Cong would have the landing zone pre-plotted for mortar fire which always resulted in some memorable moments of incredibly intense fear. It only took the sight of what happens to a helicopter when an 82mm mortar explodes alongside while it’s just touching down to learn that what we were doing was really scary.
But it did have its moments and we usually got to take a shower every night.
After six months of risking my life daily ferrying troops, I decided I really wanted to shoot back a lot more and I was allowed to transfer to the armed platoon in exchange for an additional six months in Vietnam. So, after six months in country, I only had eighteen months left in my twelve month tour.

The furor over the Confederate flag, think I, has little to do with the Confederate flag, which is a pretext, an uninvolved bystander. Rather it is about a seething anger in the United States that we must not mention. It is the anger of people who see everything they are and believe under attack by people they aren’t and do not want to be—their heritage, their religion, their values and way of life all mocked and even made criminal.
The talking heads inside Washington’s beltway, in editorial suites in New York, do not know of this anger. They do not talk to people in Joe’s Bar in Chicago or in barbecue joints in Wheeling. They are cloistered, smug, sure of themselves. And they are asking for it.
We are dealing with things visceral, not rational. Confusing the two is dangerous. Hatreds can boil over as syllogisms cannot. The banning of the flag infuriates, for example, me.
Why? Although a Southerner by raising, I would far prefer to live in New York City than in Memphis. Yet I value my boyhood in Virginia and Alabama. My ancestors go back to the house of Burgesses, and I remember long slow summer days on the Rappahannock and in the limestone of Athens, Alabama.
When the federal government and the talking heads want to ban my past—here, permit me to exit momentarily the fraudulent objectivity of literature—I hate the sonsofbitches.
A lot of people quietly hate the sonsofbitches.

Let tomorrow always be another day in memory of Confederate War Dead

The House having voted to ban the display of Confederate flags at historic federal cemeteries in the Deep South is the equivalent of robbing dead Confederate soldiers of their patriot status, condemning their memories forever in absentia and even desecrating their graves.
It is akin to ruthlessly tearing out pages from the history book of time; bequeathing an unforgivable denial to up and coming generations born with an unalienable right to explore every era of their nation’s past.
Banning the display of Confederate flags on the final resting places of Confederate soldiers is like plunging a rusty sword into the hearts of the great great grandchildren who remember their fallen with pride.
Ruthless, vote-pandering politicians of the day have proven they will exploit anything even all of life’s memories, a century after death:

Sons of Confederate Veterans: Court order prevents removal of license plates
Via Bill
Days after Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe ordered license plates displaying the Confederate Battle Flag be discontinued, the Sons of the Confederate Veterans is fighting back, saying a federal court order overrules the Governor's actions.
In a letter sent to Virginia DMV Commissioner Richard Holcomb, the SCV argues a 2002 ruling by the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals forced Virginia to allow for specialty Confederate flag license plates, based on free speech grounds.
"I am aware of no order from the 4th Circuit vacating our right to receive our plates from the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles and on behalf of ALL the citizens of the Commonwealth I insist that you follow the rule of Law," says L. Tracy Clay of the Virginia Sons of Confederate Veterans in his letter to the Virginia DMV.

Obama’s Progressive America: Politico Calls for Ethnic, Cultural Cleansing of Southern Whites
Via Cousin John
Politico Magazine, edited by former Washington Post reporter Susan Glasser, published an amazingly racist and culturally bigoted article by contributing editor Michael Lind last Friday entitled, How the South Skews America, We’d be less violent, more mobile and in general more normal if not for Dixie
Politico bemoans conservative, religious white Southerners whom the magazine accuses of preventing the U.S. from being more like Britain, Canada and other liberal, English speaking democracies. The article concludes with the hope that the South will be ethnically and culturally cleansed by immigrants from other countries and liberals relocating from other parts of the U.S.

South Carolina House approves bill removing Confederate flag
Via Billy
As predicted, our beloved
banner is coming down. Since this whole fiasco started, I warned it's a waste of
time to contact the representatives. Everyone had their hopes up, but you're a
mouse fighting a political dinosaur at this stage of the war. The Republicans
seized the opportunity to appear more inclusive and diverse by capitulating to
the Marxists and their army of locust. Again, this is just the beginning -
we ain't seen nothing yet.
I'm receiving a barrage of
e-mails from Compatriots, Veterans, and a host of others around the South who
are sympathetic to our Cause. The communications are coming from Virginia, NC,
SC, Ga, Alabama, Mississippi, Florida, and Tennessee. All have the same message:
The locust are on deck and they want to erase all vestiges of the
Confederacy.
Sadly yet also very predictable
- no real peep from the Sons of Confederate Veterans hierarchy. No organization
- no plan - no action. We've only heard calls by the SCV CiC for "fasting and
prayer" and denouncing a planned Klan rally. While followers of Christ know
"prayer and fasting" is important, action is also needed as our Saviour expects.
We've heard the SCV hierarchy from Virginia and NC clamor to protect, not
monuments or symbols, but a non-historic / government mandated "novelty" license
plate. We even read in the media where an SCV member stood shoulder-to-shoulder
with an NAACP chief in calling for the removal of our beloved banner from the SC
Statehouse grounds.
The SCV is not 30,000
strong - proof of that is exhibited at the most senior levels. At best,
maybe one-tenth of the SCV has the real fortitude to engage a fight, and that
don't cut when you need numbers to prosecute a cultural war. We know it, but
worst yet, so does the enemy.
You don't just allow the
Amalekites of society to waltz in, deface, and steal without a fight. You can't
be just a watchman - you've got to repel borders. They either don't get that
concept, or they are cowards. Fact is, they are so satisfied with their coveted
titles, attained through conniving, Divisional political maneuvering, that as
long as their "check-in-the-block" résumé is fulfilled, then their ambitious,
self-aggrandizing mission is complete.
The biggest, most massive
movement yet to eradicate our Confederate history is happening on their watch -
and all we hear is chirping from those who claim a duty to "protect and
preserve." This is the true legacy of flagpole-climbing pretenders who
have rejected over a quarter century of suggested "battle plans" against this
cultural cleansing of our Confederate property.
When we needed a Forrest
approach, we got a Gideon Pillows capitulation. Instead of denying ground to the
enemy like Forrest, the SCV hierarchy sat still like McClellan. Instead of
applying the tenets outlined by General Stephen D. Lee in his 1906 speech to the
United Confederate Veterans in New Orleans, the SCV scrapped certain elements to
exhibit a more reserved posture, eliminating all challenges of sacrifice. Lee's
message was clear - the baton is being passed so their sacrifice would be an
"interrogation mark" to blood descendents. However, the chosen bull of the
Southern-Confederate heritage pasture has relegated itself to the role of
tethered sheep.
Folks, the original battle
plans will no longer work. We are now be forced into a reckoning. It's not just
our history at stake, but our existence. Open your eyes.
Knowing what needs to be done
is the easy part. Saying it out loud and acting - that is where one's mettle is
truly defined.
Confederately,
JW
