Is it time for the Confederate flag to be as taboo as the Nazi swastika?

 By who?

A darker emblem looms over the heated conversation about a controversial American symbol. To hammer home how problematic the continued state-sanctioned tolerance of the Confederate battle flag is in parts of the United States, some have drawn comparisons to the infamous banner of Adolf Hitler's Nazi Germany.

"It would be like having the swastika flag flying on your next-door neighbor," said Whoopi Goldberg, on ABC's The View on Monday. "If [the Confederate flag] continues to fly, the statement that’s being made … is that ‘We miss this really crappy part of history.'"

To be sure, Nazi Germany was a vastly different political entity than the Confederacy, and existed in a vastly different historical context.

Navy salvages cannon from wreck of Confederate ironclad CSS Georgia

Via Billy

The U.S. Navy's Supervisor of Salvage and Diving (SUPSALV) is providing vital salvage assistance to recover historical artifacts, including cannon, from the wreckage of the Civil War-era CSS Georgia in Savannah, GA, harbor, reports Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA).

Built in Savannah, Georgia in 1862 (with the help of $115,000 in funding from the Ladies' Gunboat Association) the CSS Georgia, was designed to be an ironclad warship and was deployed to defend the river channels below Savannah, using her cannons to prevent a Union advance on the city from the sea. However, her steam engines turned out to lack sufficient power for offensive use and she was then anchored in the Savannah River as a floating battery, protecting both the city and Fort Jackson. When the Georgia had been in service about 20 months, Savannah was taken by land on December 21, 1864, the crew scuttled her to prevent her capture.

Cultural Genocide From a Generational Perspective

For the past few weeks I have been watching the national reaction to the shooting at the black church in Charleston, South Carolina and the gigantic fuss being made of the Confederate flag in regard to that.

In my opinion this is shaping up like a well-managed psy-ops campaign to rid the South of not only guns, but also the symbols of her culture and heritage. If one said that situations like this seldom happen by accident he would be pretty close to the truth.

They started out by working to remove all Confederate flags they could in Southern states. The political hacks we have for politicians have been lining up to see who could be the first to remove Confederate flags.  The governors of South Carolina and Alabama seem to have won that questionable race while it looks like Mississippi might end up a distant third, depending on how much noise her voters make over the issue.

WHAT WOULD JEFFERSON SAY?

No wonder Jefferson arouses a negative reaction among today’s prevailing intelligentsia. It is impossible to imagine an American society that is more un-Jeffersonian than the regime we live under today.

A Spartan death: Vietnam F-4 Phantoms

The relationship between a pilot and an airframe goes beyond a master and a tool. It’s a true relationship, with accompanying feelings.

“It’s like your dog getting shot I guess. You love the airplane,” said McCormick. “You have a personal attachment to it.”

Understanding this relationship, McCormick keeps a master log of each QF-4, so he can give some closure to Airmen who had a connection with a particular F-4.

“I have a master list of tail numbers. When they call and give me a tail number, I can look it up, and the date, and say, ‘This QF-4 died on this date with this missile.’ It makes people feel better when you know how and why.

People still tear up.”

Soldiers Made Ashamed of Their Battle Flag

 http://www.georgiaencyclopedia.org/sites/default/files/styles/article-top/public/m-1004.jpg?itok=DdiyByr_

The war crimes against American civilians carried out by Sherman were accomplished with the full knowledge and assent of Grant, Lincoln, Stanton, Seward and Halleck. All knew well that for Sherman’s vandals to live off the country in Georgia and the Carolinas meant civilians would endure starvation and worse.
Bernhard Thuersam, www.Circa1865.com   The Great American Political Divide

Soldiers Made Ashamed of Their Battle Flag

“In the earlier part of the war, General William T. Sherman knew and recognized the rules adopted by his government for the conduct of its armies in the field; and so, on September 29, 1861, he wrote to General Robert Anderson, at Louisville, Ky., saying, among other things:

“I am sorry to report that in spite of my orders and entreaties, our troops are committing depredations that will ruin our cause. Horses and wagons have been seized, cattle, sheep, hogs, chickens taken by our men, some of whom wander for miles around . . . the men are badly disciplined and give little heed to my orders or those of their own regimental officers.”

Later on General Sherman said, “War is hell.” If we could record here all the testimony in our possession, from the people of Georgia and South Carolina, who had the misfortune to live along the line of his famous “march to the sea,” during nearly the whole length of which he was warring against, and depredating on, women, children, servants, old men, and other non-combatants, it would show that he had certainly contributed everything in his power to make war “Hell,” as he termed it; and he has justly earned the distinction of being called the ruling genius of this creation.

“We consumed the corn and fodder in the region of country thirty miles on either side of a line from Atlanta to Savannah; also the sweet potatoes, hogs, sheep and poultry, and carried off more than ten thousand horses and mules. I estimate the damage done to the State of Georgia at one hundred million dollars, at least twenty millions of which enured to our benefit, and the remainder was simply waste and destruction.”

Captain Daniel Oakley of the Second Regiment, Massachusetts Volunteers . . . says this:

“It was sad to see the wanton destruction of property, which was the work of “bummers,” who were marauding through the country committing every sort of outrage. There was no restraint . . . The country was necessarily left to take care of itself and became a howling waste.” Another Northern soldier, writing for the “Detroit Free Press,” gives the following graphic account:

“After describing the burning of Marietta, in which the writer says, among other things, “soldiers rode from house to house, entered without ceremony, and kindled fires in garrets and closets and stood by to see that they were not extinguished.”

He then further says: “Had one been able to climb to such a height in Atlanta as to enable him to see for forty miles around the day Sherman marched out, he would have been appalled at the destruction. Hundreds of homes had been burned, every rod of fence destroyed, nearly every fruit tree cut down, and the face of the country so changed that one born in that section could scarcely recognize it. The vindictiveness of war would have trampled the very earth out of sight had such a thing been possible.”

Again he says: “At the beginning of the campaign at Dalton, the Federal soldiery had received encouragement to become vandals . . . When Sherman cut loose from Atlanta everybody had license to throw off restraint and make Georgia “drain the bitter cup.” The Federal who wants to learn what it was to license an army to become vandals should mount a horse at Atlanta and follow Sherman’s route for fifty miles. He can hear stories from the lips of women that would make him ashamed of the flag that waved over him as he went into battle.

When the army had passed nothing was left but a trail of desolation and despair. No houses escaped robbery, no woman escaped insult, no building escaped the firebrand, except by some strange interposition. War may license an army to subsist on the enemy, but civilized warfare stops at livestock, forage and provisions. It does not enter the houses of the sick and helpless and rob women of their finger rings and carry off their clothing.”

[Sherman] not only does not say that he tried to prevent his army from committing these outrages, but says, on page 255 (Memoirs], in referring to his march through South Carolina: “I would not restrain the army, lest its vigor and energy be impaired.”

Trump Opponents Take Nuanced View of Child Rape

There will be many people who are too politically correct or politically indifferent to read this article by Ann Coulter. They are making a tragic mistake by either failing to read it or dismissing it. Political correctness is the enemy of all truth, and it is especially evil and destructive, when it endangers not only the general public but especially our children and grandchildren. Yet you will not see the facts and statistics here in the main stream media.

The main stream media, the high priests of political correctness, and those who make enormous profits from illegal immigration will try to shout them down. But truth remains truth, and if it is allowed to be buried, shouted down, or marginalized, the freedom and safety of all us are jeopardized. Coulter mentions North Carolina prominently in her article, because the high incidence of child rape by illegal immigrants continues to be well documented.

If we care about  our jobs, our families, our taxes, honest government, and especially our children, then sanctuary cities, driver permits for illegal immigrants, and relaxed e-verify laws are not in the best interests of  North Carolina. A recent Civitas poll indicated that 74 percent of North Carolina voters oppose driver permits for illegal immigrants.

Yet there is a a bill in the North Carolina House, backed by the North Carolina Chamber of Commerce and the North Carolina Farm Bureau, and sponsored by several Republican legislators that would give driver permits to illegal immigrants. Why would these Republicans sponsor such a bill?  Follow the campaign donations.

NCHB 328 has already passed the NC House Finance Committee, and much of that shameful proceeding has been documented on video. (I will be glad to forward it to you.) Fortunately, it has not YET passed the full House.  Make sure your Representative and State Senator are firmly against HB 328. Any Republican who supports or votes for HB 328 should be defeated in the primary for both the public good and to preserve the good name of the Republican Party.

Legislators should also work and vote for HB 318, which is badly needed to strengthen North Carolina's E-Verify laws that prevent illegal immigrants from taking jobs from North Carolina workers.

HB 328 BAD.               HB 318 GOOD.

I Will Not Go Peacefully

For the most  part, I  think my last post was seized upon for its anti-tax position much
more than it should have been.

Who  cares  about my  particular  situation?  Is  it relevant? My answer is no. I was asking how long will you wait to resist? Or as one person suggested: What are you doing to resist?

Why Empires Fall

Via comment by Sioux on The South: The Genesis of American Independence

Although the generalization is usually applied to republics, according to Sir John Glubb, a British author and lecturer, most empires don’t last longer than 250 years.

Or as Sir John said in summation:

As numerous points of interest have arisen in the course of this essay, I close with a brief summary, to refresh the reader’s mind.

(a)  We do not learn from history because our studies are brief and prejudiced.

(b) In a surprising manner, 250 years emerges as the average length of national greatness.

(c) This average has not varied for 3,000 years.  Does it represent ten generation?

(d) The stages of the rise and fall of great nations seem to be:
  • The Age of Pioneers (outburst)
  • The Age of Conquests
  • The Age of Commerce
  • The Age of Affluence
  • The Age of Intellect
  • The Age of Decadence.
 e) Decadence is marked by:
  • Defensiveness
  • Pessimism
  • Materialism
  • Frivolity
  • An influx of foreigners
  • The Welfare State
  • A weakening of religion.
(f) Decadence is due to:
  • Too long a period of wealth and power
  • Selfishness
  • Love of money
  • The loss of a sense of duty.
—(Sir John Glubb)

When did we start our slide from a limited government to a centrally-planned Leviathan masquerading as a utopian paradise?

Does any of this sound familiar?  In other words all empires rise and all empires fall.  It is the luck of the draw or the happenstance of birth that situates us as spectators of the fall.

I know from experience as the Author of The Constitution Failed that if you question the viability of the American experiment even the most humble participant in that experiment becomes indignant.  As I have been asked repeatedly, “How can you say, the Constitution failed don’t you mean, we failed the Constitution?” This always elicits my response, “Is that a distinction without a difference?”
