The Same Old Stand? by John Shelton Reed

 Southern Homestead

This essay was published in Why the South Will Survive: Fifteen Southerners Look at Their Region a Half Century after I’ll Take My Stand, edited by Clyde Wilson, 1981.

When the Southern Agrarians took their stand, they did it stoutly, on two feet. Some emphasized the “Southern,” others the “Agrarian,” but fifty years ago it seemed that the two loyalties, to the South and to rural life, could (indeed, pretty well had to) go together.

Today that juxtaposition is less self-evidently sensible. If ever a society can be said to have repudiated agrarianism, the South, to all appearances, has done so. Two-thirds of all Southerners now are “urban” by Census Bureau standards; of the rural one-third, only a fraction are employed in agriculture; and of those a good many are proprietors or hands in “agribusiness”—an expression that some of the Agrarians blessedly did not live to encounter.

It is still possible to combine an affection for the South with an appreciation of the virtues and strengths of the family farm and rural life, but someone who is not prepared to exclude most residents of the South from the category “Southerner” must recognize that it is no longer a matter of defending a “Southern way of life” against industrialism. Increasingly, that way of life is industrialism.

The Seeds of American Communism

Lincoln, Lenin and Stalin: Communist Party USA meeting in Chicago, 1939

The full power of the War Department was utilized to secure Lincoln’s reelection in November 1864, according to Assistant Secretary of War Charles A. Dana. In early 1863 he was sent to spy on Grant to determine his acceptance of Radical ideals and thus suitable for higher command; it was Dana who ordered Jefferson Davis manacled in Fortress Monroe. As a young man Dana experimented with utopian fantasies at the infamous Brook Farm commune at West Roxbury, Massachusetts.

The Seeds of American Communism

“. . . [O]ne notable European communist of 1848 who was a member of the Union Army was Maj. Robert Rosa [who was] an early member of the New York Communist Club. The following preamble of the [Club’s] constitution gives insights into the worldview of these early American communists:

“The members of Communist Club reject every religious belief, no matter in what guise it may appear . . . [and] recognize the perfect equality of all men, regardless of color and sex, and therefore they strive above all to abolish private property, inherited or accumulated . . . “

These early American socialists/communists did indeed reject accepted orthodox religion, but they maintained a near “religious” faith in their utopian dreams.

The very foundation of modern-day liberalism/socialism was laid by the many and various utopian ideologues of the nineteenth century. The fact that these utopian socialists/communists found Abraham Lincoln and the Republican Party to be objects worthy of their zeal and efforts speaks volumes as to why post-Appomattox America has adopted most if not all of the early American socialist/communist goals.

Universal suffrage was a dream of every socialist/communist movement in Europe and America; even Karl Marx spoke in favor of universal suffrage; the same can be said to be true about a progressive income tax, abolition of the rights of inheritance, a system of national education, centralized banking, and many other socialist/communist measures.

Socialism and communism did not come to these United States from Russia; these concepts were already well-known by many Northern intellectuals of the nineteenth century. The preponderance of communistic societies of the United States were located in Northern States before the war. According to Theodore Draper [author of Roots of American Communism] by 1923 most communists in America could be found in cities such as New York, Chicago, Boston, Minneapolis, Cleveland and Detroit. Note that we do not find Charleston, New Orleans or any other Southern city mentioned in the above listed cities.

The thought of Lincoln as the first American president to have had a communist sympathizer working in a key part of his administration is and should be shocking to all Americans. Charles Dana, who visited Karl Marx in 1848, was an associate of Horace Greeley and an early convert to the communistic Fourier movement. Dana served as assistant secretary of war under Edwin Stanton during the Lincoln administration, thus becoming the first communist, or at least the first communist sympathizer, to serve in high position within the government of the United States.

Be that as it may, the result of Lincoln’s victory over the South was to give the utopian dreamers a victory for big government. As a result, all Americans today are living in a nation far removed from that envisioned by the founding fathers. At this juncture there is one question that stands begging to be asked: “Can the adverse effects of the socialists’ victory at Appomattox be removed from this nation?”

Franklin Graham: 144,000 American Muslims not 'peaceful': Endorses Trump's closed border plan: 'Our politicians need to realize the dangers'

Rev. Franklin Graham

Franklin Graham, who heads the Samaritan’s Purse organization as well as the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, has endorsed GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump’s idea of halting Muslim immigration into the United States, at least temporarily.

He warns there’s a good reason: some 144,000 Muslims already in the United States “who openly say without hesitation that violence in the name of Islam is justified!”

Graham’s comments have been posted over the last 24 hours on his Facebook page, where he noted the mantra from “political leaders and world experts” that “the vast majority of Muslims are peaceful people.”

“Some have suggested that as many as 99 percent fall into this category. Well, we don’t have to guess or estimate; the Pew Research Center has released extensive research on how Muslims in the U.S. self-identify on questions of violence – and the conclusions are frightening.”

I’ve covered in detail how the U.S. establishment has been aggressively pushing against the American public’s right to private communications, i.e. encryption, ever since the terror attacks in Paris. This push continues unabated, with the latest shots fired earlier this week by FBI chief James Comey at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing.

Disturbing photos of South Carolina military cadets at The Citadel have emerged on social media showing them in all white with pillowcases over their heads, appearing to evoke the Ku Klux Klan.

The military college located in Charleston announced in a statement Thursday that it is investigating the photos and has started proceedings to suspend the eight students involved.

'A social media posting, which I find offensive and disturbing, was brought to my attention this morning,' retired Air Force Lt. Gen. John Rosa, the president of the college, said in a statement posted to the school's Facebook page.

Donald Trump's latest call for a moratorium on entry visas for Muslims has left the establishment political and media elites with their knickers twisted in such a tight knot that their rantings about Trump have gone up by at least a full octave. That his poll numbers are going up with each new policy pronouncement just adds to their frustrations with their apparent impotency when dealing with not just Trump but the growing numbers of voters who are laughing in their faces.

During his Dec. 7th speech aboard thr USS Yorktown memorial he singled out the reporter from NBC News who was covering the event, directly exposed her recent attempts to foist off lies as truth and then said to the crowd while pointing directly at her, "That's a third rate journalist right there!"
The crowd went wild.

The US is to send some 10,000 troops to Iraq to provide support for a 90,000-strong force from the Gulf states, a leading Iraqi opposition MP has warned. The politician said the plan was announced to the Iraqi government during a visit by US Senator John McCain.

During a meeting in Baghdad on November 27, McCain told Prime Minister Haider Abadi and a number of senior Iraqi cabinet and military officials that the decision was ‘non-negotiable’, claimed Hanan Fatlawi, the head of the opposition Irada Movement.

“A hundred thousand foreign troops, including 90,000 from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar and Jordan, and 10,000 troops from America will be deployed in western regions of Iraq,” she wrote on her Facebook page.

She added that the Iraqi prime minister protested the plan, but was told that “the decision has already been taken.”

ISIS Crossing Southern Border From Mexico? Terror Debate Sparks Alarm Over Possible Islamic State Immigration

 border

Tim Foley recently returned from a 10-day patrol mission through the cactus and bush-covered borderland that stretches between Mexico and the U.S. states of Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California. He’s one of many Americans concerned about a porous border that sits just 400 yards from his home, but also among the few who has taken matters into his own hands.

The 56-year-old former construction worker nicknamed "Nailer" has led the Arizona Border Recon, a group of heavily armed volunteers, on expeditions to intercept undocumented border crossers and stem the flow of drugs coming through the desert for the last five years. His group, which is not sanctioned by the government, has detained hundreds of undocumented immigrants and narco-scouts and reported them to authorities, he said. Increasingly, however, he’s been concerned by the prospect of militants with the Islamic State group exploiting a weak border.

“You’ve got a war on drugs, and a war on terror, and they’re coming together -- right here, right now,” said Foley, who calls Arizona home.

Liberty University President Jerry Falwell Jr. announced Wednesday that students will soon be able to conceal carry in their dorms, effectively eliminating the last of the school’s “gun-free” zones.

The policy change, which Falwell says is aimed at better protecting the campus and its students, comes after 14 were killed by terrorists in San Bernardino last week.

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump has surged to his highest-ever standing in CBS News/New York Times polling, hitting 35 percent in a survey released Thursday.

Mr. Trump picked up 13 points of support in the poll since October. Sen. Ted Cruz is now in second place at 16 percent, while retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson, who led Mr. Trump in October, was in third at 13 percent.

True, genuine Light Infantry thinks and operates on its own, melting into it’s population.

European readers of The Fourth Generation Warfare Handbook may wonder why much of the latter part of the book is devoted to true light (or Jaeger) infantry. The reason is that the U.S. armed forces mis-define light infantry as line infantry with less equipment. This false definition leads the Americans to think they have light infantry when in fact they do not. Because true light infantry are usually 4GW forces’ most dangerous opponents, this leaves the U.S. largely disarmed in this kind of war. Its fall-back of massive firepower literally blows up in its face at the moral level, ensuring its defeat. (The closest thing the U.S. has to true light infantry is probably the Marine Scout/Snipers. According to one report from Afghanistan, the Taliban refer to the Scout/Snipers as “The Marines who are well-trained.” The Pashtun are, and long have been, some of the world’s best light infantry.)
-William S. Lind
Lind, a longtime lecturer to the armed forces on the topic of small units for small wars(and the original codification of the 4GW concept), has explained an interesting point. One that I don’t entirely agree nor disagree with, however one that must be examined from the Patriot’s standpoint.

Donald Trump knows what the American people want a lot better than the cuckroaches in the media who claim to be "opinion leaders" do:

Donald Trump acknowledged Monday during a raucous South Carolina rally that his call for barring all Muslim foreigners from entering the United States is "probably not politically correct."

But he had three words for his critics: "I don't care."

And if his South Carolina rally -- with its whoops and cheers -- was any indication, that support will stick.

Six of eight Trump supporters at the rally who spoke with CNN said they supported the Muslim travel ban, which has drawn swift criticism from other Republican and Democratic presidential contenders alike who slammed the proposal as contrary to American values of religious tolerance. And the two supporters at the rally who disagreed said they were still likely to vote for Trump.
By contrast, here is the Littlest Chickenhawk's take on what he calls Trump's desperation, which is only one of the many cuckservative hissy fits being thrown in response to Trump's moderate proposal.

The US government is engaged in an epic, generational battle; its very survival might be at stake.

That would be its battle against the truth. What it has never been engaged in is a war against terrorism, in particular, a war against state-sponsored terrorism. That would be because its allies are prime sponsors, and the biggest sponsor of all has been…the US government! The world owes an incalculable debt to Vladimir Putin for deftly illustrating both facts.

The US government’s battle against the truth kicked into high gear after 9/11. Wars were launched against Afghanistan and Iraq. The Patriot Act launched a nonstop expansion of the surveillance state.

Experts: Trump Muslim ban likely constitutional: SC has already weighed in on similar issue

Some of the more restrained reactions to GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump’s suggestion that Muslims need to be excluded from American immigration programs until Congress gets a handle on the issue of terror have come from his competitors in the race.

“Unhinged” came from Jeb Bush. “Offensive” was from Marco Rubio. And more.

But the most pointed attacks came from those who simply said it was unconstitutional.

William Banks of Syracuse law school told the Wall Street Journal, “Aside from being outrageous, it would be unconstitutional.” Laurence Tribe at Harvard’s law school agreed.

Talking to U.S. News & World Report, Harvard Law professor Gerald Neuman said the idea is “discriminatory in a fashion that’s totally inconsistent with constitutional principles.”

However, that doesn’t mean it’s unconstitutional, apparently.
