Burns Fire Chief Resigns, Assemblywoman Michele Fiore Blames ‘FBI Posing As Militia’ Near Oregon Standoff

 

In a press release, Assemblywoman Michele Fiore claims that FBI agents in Oregon have been posing as militia amidst the Oregon standoff at the wildlife refuge. Fiore and the Coalition of Western States have released a statement indicating that Chris Briels, the Burns Fire Chief since 1984, is so upset over the development that he has resigned. The former fire chief’s verbal statement indicates that he actually resigned over the way the judge treated him after he discovered the undercover FBI agents.

Former Fire Chief Chris Briels stood next to Ammon Bundy, the leader of the group that has occupied Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, when he announced his resignation, according to KATU News. Briels is a member of the Community Committee for Public Safety, a local group that plans to work to reclaim local rancher’s land rights when the protesters eventually leave the wildlife refuge.

This essay is the introduction to Larry Koger’s book, Black Slaveowners: Free Black Slave Masters in South Carolina, 1790-1860.

Black slaveholding is a historical phenomenon which has not been fully explored by scholars.

Graduate students of history are often sur­prised to learn that some free blacks owned slaves. Even historians are fre­quently skeptical until they discover the number of black masters and the number of slaves owned by them. To many readers, slavery was an institu­tion exclusively utilized by white slaveowners. The fact that free blacks owned slaves has been lost in the annals of history.

Yet at one time or another, free black slaveowners resided in every Southern state which countenanced slavery and even in Northern states. In Louisiana, Maryland, South Carolina, and Virginia, free blacks owned more than 10,000 slaves, according to the federal census of 1830.

]Billionaire businessman and front-running Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump hit directly at the Democrat base during a speech to a large crowd at a campaign rally in Pensacola, Florida, just one day after President Barack Obama’s State of the Union speech.

According to The Hill, Trump took issue with the seeming lack of progress Obama has made in his purported quest to make life in America better for American blacks

“So you have a president who’s African-American — good, I love that — except less has been done for African-Americans than anybody,” Trump declared.

Project Veritas Investigates Common Core: “It’s about the Money” & ".. I hate kids”.

Earlier this week , Project Veritas, the investigative journalism outfit led by James O’Keefe and known for explosive undercover videos, released their latest work – an investigation into Common Core and the big money being made off the controversial standards.

In the video, undercover Project Veritas journalists catch an executive from textbook publisher Houghton Mifflin Harcourt on camera describing that Common Core isn’t about the kids, it’s “about the money”.

Diane Barrow, an account manager for Houghton Mifflin’s West coast division, is filmed saying, “You don’t think that the education publishing companies are in it for education do you? No, they’re in it for the money.”

When asked if she was in it for the kids, Barrow responds, laughingly saying “No, I hate kids”.

FBI Posing As Militia: Burns, Oregon

The FBI have reportedly been following citizens around the town in vehicles, but not apparently in any official capacity.  They’re posing as militia.  Nevada State Legislator Michele Fiore reported that she had a conversation less than an hour ago with Fire Marshall Chris Briels.  He said at 12:26pm Pacific Time on 13 January, that the Sheriff’s Office and Judge Grasty announced to the community that the ‘militia’ has been following people and harassing citizens throughout the town. 

When he saw what he thought was militia “Poking around the armory” and following people he took it upon himself to pull them over.  He reported to Fiore that the men posing as militia actually turned out to be FBI.

One Day In The Life Of An Urban Teacher

At the beginning of the school day, the halls are mostly empty. A few students straggle through the halls and wander into classes. The official start of the day is 8:15, but most students will not be in school at that time, and the students who are will wander into class sometime before 8:30. Who knows when announcements will happen.

At the start of class, 50 percent of class is not present. Twenty-five percent are absent, 25 percent are late, and many of those are late by at least half the class period.

I pass out copies of “Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass” and give a brief background on Douglas. No one takes notes.

I next assign the introduction and preface for reading in class. Maybe six of 20 students open the book and start reading; other students open the book, but put it face down on the desk and get out their cell phones, although they are repeatedly told to put them away; a fair number do not open the book at all. One student asks if he can listen to music while he is reading, because, he says, “My brain doesn’t work in silence.” I tell him he needs to practice silence.

Last weekend, some 1,700 Germans turned out for a PEGIDA rally in Cologne to protest the wave of sexual assaults that unfolded in the city on New Year’s Eve in the town center.

PEGIDA nearly faded into obscurity early last year when then-leader Lutz Bachmann posted a picture of himself dressed as Hitler on Facebook with the caption “He’s Back”, but thanks to the 1.1 million Mid-East asylum seekers that poured across Germany’s borders in 2015, the anti-immigrant group has seen something of a resurgence over the past six or so months. 

While the group claims to be looking out for the interests of the German people, some draw disturbing parallels between PEGIDA and a dangerous far-right ideology linked to extreme nationalism.

Unsurprisingly, movements like PEGIDA aren’t confined to Germany. In Finland the streets are now patrolled by the The “Soldiers of Odin,” a kind of vigilante justice brigade with political overtones and the trappings of a biker gang. The men don black bomber jackets adorned with the Finnish flag and a symbol of a Viking and say they are interested in helping police keep native Finns safe. Here's one of the group's members:

If there is such thing as a “hockey stick” graph, it charts the disappearance of freedom, opportunity, prosperity and hope of the American middle class during the last 50 years.  In 2008 Americans sleepwalked to the polls and elected a man who by his history, family, friends and even his own words left little doubt that his mission was to destroy everything that America has traditionally stood for.  We entered the steep part of the graph. 

The slow motion suicide that America has been committing since the mid 1960’s is no longer slow motion.  In 2012 with Republican help they did it again.

A stunning new Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) report circulating in the Kremlin today states that one of the United States Navy’s top commanders was relieved of his command a few hours ago after he sent out an “email/posting” revealing that President Barack Obama was in the process of purchasing a multi-million dollar seaside luxury villa in the United Arab Emirates city (UAE) of Dubai.

According to this report, the Commander of the US Navy’s Carrier Strike Group 15, Rear Admiral Rick Williams, posted a “pointed” query on 8 January [since deleted] to the US Naval Institute’s “Readiness Kill Chain” “recipients/responders” list as to why Navy security and intelligence personal had been dispatched from Naval Support Facility Thurmont (aka Camp David) to Dubai on what he termed an “Obama house hunting mission”.

Did Black People Own Slaves?

 

One of the most vexing questions in African-American history is whether free African Americans themselves owned slaves. The short answer to this question, as you might suspect, is yes, of course; some free black people in this country bought and sold other black people, and did so at least since 1654, continuing to do so right through the Civil War. For me, the really fascinating questions about black slave-owning are how many black “masters” were involved, how many slaves did they own and why did they own slaves?
 
The answers to these questions are complex, and historians have been arguing for some time over whether free blacks purchased family members as slaves in order to protect them — motivated, on the one hand, by benevolence and philanthropy, as historian Carter G. Woodson put it, or whether, on the other hand, they purchased other black people “as an act of exploitation,” primarily to exploit their free labor for profit, just as white slave owners did. The evidence shows that, unfortunately, both things are true. The great African-American historian, John Hope Franklin, states this clearly: “The majority of Negro owners of slaves had some personal interest in their property.” But, he admits, “There were instances, however, in which free Negroes had a real economic interest in the institution of slavery and held slaves in order to improve their economic status.”

In a fascinating essay reviewing this controversy, R. Halliburton shows that free black people have owned slaves “in each of the thirteen original states and later in every state that countenanced slavery,” at least since Anthony Johnson and his wife Mary went to court in Virginia in 1654 to obtain the services of their indentured servant, a black man, John Castor, for life.

The following panel discussion took place last Saturday on Polish State TV. The topic was the recent Groping Jihad in Cologne and other German cities.

Green Infidel, who translated the program for subtitles, includes this introductory note:

The discussion was on Polish state TV’s TVP Info channel — in the “Po przecinku” (“After the comma”) program, shown on 9 January 2016.

The guests were Dr Magdalena El Ghamari, an expert on terrorism from Białystok University and Dr Ryszard Żółtaniecki, a sociologist and former diplomat.

Polish state TV has been the subject of some discussion recently. After the Polish elections last October, won by the right-wing, Eurosceptic “Law and Justice” party, the new government have proposed large changes to the state television broadcaster, which would see government ministers directly nominating TV chiefs. Previously, the board which nominated the heads of TV was largely composed of liberals, now in opposition.

As a result of the proposals, there have been some protests by the opposition, also on the streets, by the “Committee for the Defence of Democracy”.
