1 killed as Ammon Bundy, 4 others arrested in Oregon amid shots fired – FBI

Ammon Bundy, the leader of the armed group occupying a federal wildlife refuge near Burns, Oregon, and four others have been arrested by law enforcement amid gunfire, according to the FBI. 

 

At 4:25 pm on Tuesday afternoon, the FBI and Oregon State Police “began an enforcement action to bring into custody a number of individuals associated with the armed occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge. During that arrest, there were shots fired," the Bureau said in a statement.

The FBI said one person who was “a subject of a federal probable cause arrest is deceased.” He said they are not releasing any information on the person “pending identification by the medical examiner’s office.”

One person suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. He was arrested and is in custody.

Update: Mayor Mitch Landrieu says he is “pleased” with the ruling and does not give a time frame of exactly when the monuments will be removed, according to the Advocate’s Jeff Adelson. Landrieu went on to say that the monuments would be stored in a city-owned facility until a permanent place, most-likely a privately-owned park, was chosen for their relocation.

Four of New Orleans’ historical monuments will officially be removed after US District Judge Carl Barbier denied to issue an injunction that would have entirely prevented Mayor Mitch Landrieu from taking the monuments down.

Following the New Orleans City Council vote, in which only one City Councilmember voted against removal, the city was hit with a federal lawsuit by preservationist groups.

Former House Speaker: FBI ‘Ready to Recommend an Indictment’ of Hillary Clinton

Former Speaker of the House Tom Delay says the FBI is “ready to recommend an indictment” of Hillary Clinton after an investigation of her private email server.

Appearing on the Steve Malzberg radio show, Delay said, “I have friends that are in the FBI, and they tell me they’re ready to indict, they’re ready to recommend an indictment.” He added, “And they also say that if the attorney general does not indict, they’re going public.”

Earlier this month, Fox News’ Catherine Herridge reported there was pressure building within the FBI to “pursue the case.” One unnamed source told Herridge agents would be “screaming” if the prosecution was not pursued because, “many previous public corruption cases have been made and successfully prosecuted with much less evidence than what is emerging in this investigation.”

Police in riot gear were called to a so-called refugee camp over the weekend after hundreds of men brawled violently over different interpretations of the Quran, resulting in five hospitalisations.

The brawl in the early hours of Sunday morning in the Leimen camp in Baden-Württemberg, Germany was triggered by inter-Islamic friction between different interpretations of the faith.

Pakistani Muslims at the migrant centre had discovered that a group of Muslims from Afghanistan had been drinking alcohol and accused them of being “bad Muslims” for doing so, reports the Stuttgarter Nachrichten.

Denmark Passes Law To Seize Valuables, Cash From Refugees

“Welcome to Europe. Now gimmie that watch.”

That’s the greeting asylum seekers will get when they enter Denmark from now on thanks to a new law that will allow police to search refugees on arrival and confiscate anything worth more than 10,000 kroner.

The idea, apparently, is to help offset the cost of taking the migrants in by robbing them.

Denmark’s center-right government likens the new policy to how Danish welfare recipients are treated but Klaus Petersen, professor at the Centre for Welfare State Research, University of Southern Denmark says that’s not entirely accurate. “Danish welfare claimants have to give up their savings before they receive benefits – but not their valuables, unlike refugees,” Petersen told The Guardian. 

“A Danish citizen could be searched in an extreme case if the municipality has a suspicion of fraud, but you need court permission to do so [whereas] for refugees, you would not need a court permission,” he adds.

Two key members of the Oregon militia, who continue to hold the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in Oregon, say Arizona officials took their children from their homes as an act of revenge.

According to a report from the Arizona Republic, Robert “LaVoy” Finicum and Blaine Cooper say federal officials pressured local child protection officials to take custody of their children in retaliation against them for their siege on the wildlife refuge.

Swedish Police Rescue Raped Boy from Refugee Center – Are Chased out Back Door of Facility By Angry Mob

A police patrol of 10 officers was forced to flee a refugee center in Sweden after being surrounded by a mob of violent migrants. Law enforcement officials had arrived to relocate a 10-year-old boy after reports of his repeated rape at the facility.

One of the officers described what had happened in a police report obtained by the Vestmanlands Läns Tidning newspaper.

“Even more people appeared behind us. I was mentally prepared to fight for my life. We were 10 police officers in a narrow corridor. And I hear someone yell that there is an emergency exit,” the officer said.

Several polls have been released this week as the Iowa caucus and New Hampshire primary nears.

The Zogby poll released Monday shows leading Republican presidential Donald Trump tied with leading Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton at 45% –but beating Clinton in key demographics traditionally won by Democrats.

Pollster John Zogby wrote about the poll in Forbes:

“Trump is ahead among Catholics – a group that Democrats have won every election since 1992. 

He also draws an impressive 66% support among evangelicals (to Clinton’s 25%). He also leads among NASCAR Fans (48%-42%), Investor Class voters (49%-44%) and Weekly Wal-Mart Shoppers (50%-42%) – a group President Barack Obama won twice. Trump even is drawing 37% of union households (to Clinton’s 56%).”
