The Jeffersonian Solution

 Jefferson 3

The original strength of our American republic was found in the ability to supply our own needs.

That is the very definition of independence. We provided our own form of government, our own energy resources, our own manufacturing, and we grew an overabundance of our own food. We were a self-sufficient nation.

This condition of national independence was the natural outgrowth of America’s many independent farming communities. The vast majority of early Americans lived on small farms and homesteads, providing their own food, shelter, clothing, and most other necessities from their own land. Today, however, less than 2% of our population is involved in the work of agriculture, and that agriculture has greatly changed. Now it’s called agribusiness and it is dependent on enormous, unsustainable imports of foreign oil. Subsistence farms have become rare as hen’s teeth.

Thomas Jefferson, primary author of the Declaration of Independence, believed that a citizenry which worked the land, drawing sustenance directly from the earth, was the surest support of our free and independent nation; that such agrarianism engendered a healthy civic virtue. After all, self-reliant people don’t need or want government handouts, and they are not easily manipulated by scheming politicians.

In his book, Notes on Virginia, Jefferson made a remarkably prescient statement:

There's Still Time for a Serious Third-Party Presidential Run

Via Peter

How late is too late for an independent or third-party presidential run?

That question is becoming paramount as the Republican Party barrels through its primary season bitterly divided and with the chances growing that it will open its July convention without a nominee in hand. Conservatives resolutely opposed to a Donald Trump presidency have been investigating a third-party bid for weeks, hoping that if they can’t rally the party behind Ted Cruz then at least they’ll be to give the Never Trump movement an alternative not named Clinton in November. And the recent, if hardly surprising, demise of the paper-thin “loyalty pledge” that Republican candidates signed last year means that either Trump or Cruz could conceivably mount an independent campaign if they lose the GOP nomination in Cleveland.

Arizona college imposes mandatory fee to fund scholarship for illegal immigrants

Via sauced07

A private college in Arizona is charging students a fee to fund a scholarship for illegal immigrants, a controversial move supporters say gives a hand to those who need it but anti-illegal immigration advocates call irresponsible.

Prescott College is tacking a $30 annual fee onto its $28,000 annual tuition to establish an annual scholarship for “undocumented” students, as part of a policy first proposed by students and faculty from the undergraduate and Social Justice and Human Rights Master of Arts divisions. While students can opt out of paying the fee, if they do nothing it will be automatically imposed. Backers say it helps reverse what they call Arizona’s reputation as a “national example of discriminatory politics.”

Intel Analysts: We Were Forced Out for Telling the Truth About Obama’s ISIS War

Via David

Two senior intelligence analysts at U.S. Central Command say the military has forced them out of their jobs because of their skeptical reporting on U.S.-backed rebel groups in Syria, three sources with knowledge of their claim told The Daily Beast. It’s the first known instance of possible reprisals against CENTCOM personnel after analysts accused their bosses of manipulating intelligence reports about the U.S.-led campaign against ISIS in order to paint a rosier picture of progress in the war.

CNN host Carol Costello abruptly ended a segment Tuesday after a guest brought up Hillary Clinton’s 1975 legal defense of an accused child rapist.
Appearing on “CNN Newsroom With Carol Costello” on Tuesday, Newsmax’s Steve Malzberg, who supports Donald Trump said, “When you get one-on-one, especially if it’s Hillary, Donald Trump will go places nobody is willing to go — where the media at this point isn’t willing to go: Bringing up Clinton’s women who say they were intimidated by Hillary. Having them come forward and speak. A litany of issues that you can’t even imagine.”

Campus Lunacy, Part II

Via David

Professor Victor Davis Hanson is a classicist and historian with the Hoover Institution at Stanford University. He recently wrote an article titled "The hypocrisy behind the student renaming craze."

Students, often with the blessing of faculty, have discovered that names for campus buildings and holidays do not always fit politically correct standards for race, class and sex.

Stanford students have demanded the renaming of buildings, malls and streets bearing the name of the recently canonized Junipero Serra, an 18th-century Franciscan priest who was often unkind to American Indians. Harvard Law School is getting rid of its seal because it bears the coat of arms of the Royalls, a slave-owning family. This renaming craze is widespread and includes dozens of colleges and universities, including Amherst, Georgetown, Princeton, Yale and the University of California, Berkeley. The students have decided that some politically incorrect people from centuries ago are bad. Other politically incorrect people are not quite so bad if they were at least sometimes liberal; their names can stay.

In Muslim Malmo, Sweden, a teacher was fired for being a Jew. Pretty much just that simple. Just like that. Fired.

Sweden is a a cautionary tale and the best example of the disastrous outcome of large -scale Muslim immigration. Sweden is now a de facto Islamic country, with the attendant Islamic Jew-hatred, creed apartheid, misogyny and religious violence.

Count 6 of the Superseding Indictment reads:

(Depredation of Government Property)
(18 U.S.C. §§ 1361 and 2)

On or about January 27, 2016, in the District of Oregon, defendants SEAN ANDERSON and JAKE RYAN, aided and abetted by each other, did willfully and by means of excavation and the use of heavy equipment on lands of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, property of the United States, injure and commit a depredation against such property, specifically, an archaeological site considered sacred to the Burns Paiute Tribe, resulting in damage in an amount exceeding $1000, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 1361 and 2.

I have provided Jake’s name, though the government still has his name blacked out on the Indictment.  The statutes cited are:

Pat Caddell: American People Will ‘Revolt’ if Party Establishments Cheat Primary Winners Trump, Cruz, and Sanders

Via Billy

 Pat Caddell Gage Skidmore Flickr
“I understand cognitive dissonance. I understand why the Establishment can’t understand, and will not give any credence to the legitimacy, of the rising discontent of the American people, to be the rulers of their own country,” he said, adding that he was “amazed” by the contempt displayed by GOP elites for Donald Trump’s supporters — who are treated like “drug addicts, or little Hitlers, or what have you.”
****************************

Political strategist Pat Caddell, who hosts the Political Insiders roundtable for Fox News at 7:30 PM Eastern on Sunday nights, joined host Stephen K. Bannon on Wednesday’s edition of Breitbart News Daily to look at the state of the 2016 primaries on both sides of the aisle.

In both the Democrat and Republican races, Caddell saw party establishments pushing back hard against insurgencies … making it possible this epic “Year of the Outsider” will end with two establishment candidates, and a great many disillusioned voters.

“The Establishment in this country, which the American people, in both parties, and independents — I mean, 70, 80 percent and more — despise and dislike … you know, they are in bed together because they have a very corrupt and cozy relationship,” said Caddell. “And the American people, particularly in the Republican Party, want that stopped.”

College Professor’s Presentation: Imagine a World WITHOUT WHITENESS

Via Michael

In the continuing saga of “whiteness history month” at Portland Community College, history and humanities professor James Harrison gave a presentation entitled “Imagine A World Without Whiteness”.

Parts of his presentation included passages where he channeled John Lennon’s “Imagine” and said “Imagine everyone living together in peace, a world without conflict…It would be a world without whiteness”

He went on to say that even poor white people have PRIVILEGE. (Note that this guy is a professor at a public institution, probably hauling in a six figure salary, wearing nice suits, probably drives a BMW. Oh the oppression!

America 1956 vs. America 2016

Via comment by Quartermain on "Mother hires stripper for her eight year old's bir...":

Once Upon A Time - Facebook

Is America a better place today than it was back in 1956?  Of course many Americans living right now couldn’t even imagine a world without cell phones, Facebook or cable television, but was life really so bad back then?  60 years ago, families would actually spend time on their front porches and people would actually have dinner with their neighbors.  60 years ago, cars were still cars, football was still football and it still meant something to be an American.

In our country today, it is considered odd to greet someone as they are walking down the street, and if someone tries to be helpful it is usually because they want something from you.  But things were very different in the middle of the last century.  Men aspired to be gentlemen and women aspired to be ladies, and nobody had ever heard of  “bling”, “sexting” or “twerking”.  Of course life was far from perfect, but people actually had standards and they tried to live up to them.

So how did it all go so wrong?

KASICH WILL BE THE GOP NOMINEE. ( Blood In The Aisles? )

cdyea-vw0aaqzmh

Without saying it, Reince Priebus just told Sean Hannity on Fox News that one of the three candidates currently in the running — Trump, Cruz, Kasich — WILL BE the nominee.

When pressed by Hannity that there’s no way Kasich can be the nominee for all the Rules reasons, Priebus refused to agree.

AND THAT, Ladies and Gentlmen, is why Kasich is still in the race, despite the fact he’s won only ONE state (his own — Ohio) and comes in last in every state primary/caucus so far, including tonight’s primary in Wisconsin, where at this moment he’s in 3rd place with a pitiful 14% of the vote.

SCOTUS Decision on Counting Illegals Highlights Betrayal of Government’s Purpose

Via WRSA

ScreenHunter_06 Apr. 05 15.23
With an 8-0 ruling that illegals count toward apportionment, does it even matter?

“A unanimous Supreme Court ruled Monday that illegal immigrants and other noncitizens can be counted when states draw their legislative districts, shooting down a challenge by Texas residents who said their own voting power was being diluted,” The Washington Times reported.

Counted? Do we use 11 million or 30?

And unanimous? So much for “originalists” on the court. So naturally, the most “progressive” of the eight left standing – the one who views the Second Amendment as “obsolete,” was the one entrusted to explain founding intent.

“As the Framers of the Constitution and the Fourteenth Amendment comprehended, representatives serve all residents, not just those eligible or registered to vote,” Judge Ruth Bader Ginsburg wrote for the court. “Nonvoters have an important stake in many policy debates — children, their parents, even their grandparents, for example, have a stake in a strong public-education system — and in receiving constituent services, such as help navigating public-benefits bureaucracies.”

Welcome to the great giveaway – not just in terms of wealth transfers and utilization of infrastructure and resources, but in terms of power through apportionment.

Here’s the political danger:

Sot Weed from the Maryland Muse

 tobacco

EBENEZER COOKE (fl. ca. 1680s—1730s?) of Maryland is a major figure in colonial American literature. He is best known for the long satirical poem “The Sot-Weed Factor.” (The sot-weed is tobacco, mainstay of the Southern, and American economy in the colonial period, and the factor is a figure long familiar in the South—the seaport merchant who sold and exported the plantations’ tobacco, cotton, or rice, and shipped to the plantation such purchased goods as were requested. A Yankee writer named Barth in the 20th century appropriated Cooke’s title for a novel.) The first item is from “The Sot-Weed Factor” (1708) and the second is a preface to Cooke’s long poem “The Maryland Muse.” (1731). Cooke shows the humorous and positive spirit of the South at a time when the literature of New England consisted entirely of Puritan cant.
