Congress Selects a Virginia Aristocrat

 http://s3.amazonaws.com/mtv-main-assets/files/resources/washington-and-lafayette-at-valley-forge-loc-web.jpg

Washington, the Virginia aristocrat, was to grow into his enormous responsibility as commander-in-chief of an “undisciplined horde led by clowns and fools”; he later admitted: “Could I have foreseen what I have, and am likely to experience, no consideration upon earth could have induced me to accept this command.”

Congress Selects a Virginia Aristocrat

“Before the Bunker Hill news reached the Congress, the delegates had already agreed to arm the Colonies for defense under a single command and had appointed George Washington commander-in-chief, with the rank of general.

The big, pock-marked plantation master, who stoically suffered the experiments of colonial dentists on iron and wooden teeth, has come across time more as an abstraction than as a person. First in war, first in peace, first in the hearts of his countrymen – this alone is enough to dehumanize any man. Certainly he is not first in the hearts of people who inhabit the county he won, and George Washington personally would regard the nation that has evolved with cold incomprehension.

First of all, George Washington was a product of the ruling class of Virginia’s aristocratic republic. His antecedents were English; his affiliations were with English people and the Virginia English. His experiences were largely limited to the plantation world of eastern Virginia, and he had no real desire to extend his experiences beyond these limits.

When his State allied with others for mutual defense, his ambition and sense of authority motivated him to seek leadership in the area where he felt most qualified to serve – in the military.

The plantation master suffered no delusions about his military gifts, nor did the Continental delegates who appointed him. Washington was picked, for a variety of sound political and practical reasons, primarily because he was a Virginia aristocrat, and not because he was some vaporless distillation of “The Patriot.”

Any New Englander was eliminated from leadership because many of the delegates from other colonies (especially the rich conservatives) regarded them as troublemakers. This elimination made a Virginian the logical choice. Virginia was the largest and oldest colony; it had been a leader on principle in the struggle with England over colonial rights, and its representatives were as a group the most distinguished.

Finally, despite all the later-day talk about democracy, the colonial representatives in 1775 agreed that an aristocrat, habituated to and a symbol of authority, should lead. This made a Virginian at least one inevitability of the movement.

In selecting Washington for these considerations, the Congress could not have known they had selected a man with the most enormous capacity for growth under pressure. Washington was the apogee of the progressive-conservative of his class and his state. He was the most dramatic vindication of the oligarchy’s theory of producing from the plantation society superior individuals for leadership.”

The Handiwork of Heritage Haters

Just in case you needed another example of how the heritage haters will lie, steal, and slander good people in their vile attempts to further their Godless agenda, take a look at this meme, created and posted on the web a few hours by Kristopher Goad AKA "Goad Gatsby", a Richmond area agitator and "social justice warrior".

Mr. Goad illegally removed the trademark watermark from a photo from Judy Smith photography and added the wording shown below in white, claiming the gentleman in the photo is giving a "nazi salute" and has a "Neo-nazi" tattoo on his arm.

Obviously, the gentleman in the photo is waving back at one of the hundreds of Danville citizens who honked, waved, and gave us thumbs up and appreciation for our efforts yesterday. The tattoo on his arm...? That's a memorial to his wife, who died of cancer, as can be plainly seem when the photo is enlarged.

Pennsylvania Miners Resist Lincoln’s Draft

New York Draft Riots

Audenreid, Pennsylvania mine owner George K. Smith was killed by his workers in early November 1863 in retaliation for providing their names to the military draft authorities. By mid-1862 Northern enlistments had dwindled and Lincoln resorted to conscription to fill the ranks.

Pennsylvania Miners Resist Lincoln’s Draft

“Being a mine owner made Smith a much-despised man to begin with among the destitute miners. And the Civil War brought another factor into play that further fueled their hatred – the [Northern] government’s draft. One newspaper writer said the draft had converted the coal region into “a perfect hell.”

Ordering the immigrant German and Irish miners to serve in the Federal army and fight in a war they knew or cared little about proved too much for many of them to endure. They were being paid just fifty cents for a backbreaking day of work as it was, and when a mine boss collaborated with military authorities as Smith did, it doubled their rage.

As events turned out, Smith had written his own death certificate the moment he supplied work rolls to Union draft officials. Captain E.H. Rauch, the deputy provost marshal, injudiciously said that when he was in Beaver Meadow serving draft notices, Smith had given him a detailed map showing where each of the drafted men lived.

As early as 1862, rebellious bands of miners were becoming known and feared throughout the coal regions by encouraging desertions, interfering with recruiting, interrupting mining operations, and attacking loyalists who were devoted to the Union cause.

After the National Conscription Act was passed in August 1862, individual States were forced to draft men as a means of filling their quotas when the specified number of volunteers fell short. After the list of conscripts for each district was drawn, the men selected went immediately to their county seats and from there boarded trains for Harrisburg.

Immediately after the draft commenced, anti-draft leaders swung into action . . . From this rebellious group there emerged a secret band of terrorists known as the Buckshots, later to be known as the Molly Maguires. Mine bosses who [cooperated with Lincoln] were targeted . . . would receive an ominous notice posted on his door, complete with a picture of a coffin and two crossed pistols.

[Buckshot gangs in early 1863] boldly stopped a train with new recruits in the Schuykill County town of Tremont. Protection was promised for any new draftees who wanted to leave the train cars and return to their homes. Many took the Buckshots’ offer and skedaddled.

With the industrialized North in a wartime mode, the output of coal could not be hindered. Trouble in the minefields first caused alarm bells to sound in the State capital at Harrisburg, and the concern soon spread to Washington’s War Department and ultimately to President Abraham Lincoln.

Pennsylvania [Republican] Governor Andrew Curtin kept Washington informed of developments . . . [and] urged caution, realizing that with anti-war sentiment on the rise open conflict could have a bad effect on the rest of the country. Alexander McClure of Chambersburg, a political ally of both Curtin and Lincoln, stated that “Lincoln was desirous of a course to see that the law was executed, or at least to appear to have been executed.”

Few American authors wrote as many stories set in the old South as William Sydney Porter, who used the pen name, “O.Henry.” There are differing versions of how and why Porter chose the nom de plume O. Henry, each with varying degrees of credibility. Suffice it to say that he is considered one of America’s great writers of fiction, and his literary works have stood the test of time.

Porter was born in Greensboro, North Carolina, and after his untimely death in his forties, he was buried a couple of hours away in Asheville, North Carolina. In his relatively short life, he produced more stories than many authors who survived to ripe old ages. When anyone mentions O.Henry, you usually think of irony with a capital “I” because his stories ordinarily have surprise ironical endings.

But they also bristle with great wit. O. Henry only wrote fiction, but references to real persons and events are sometimes interwoven with his fictional creations. So, in addition to reading a good story, today’s readers of O. Henry often learn unfamiliar things about the past. And some may be motivated to explore these little-known persons and events more deeply.

The story I have chosen to write about is classic O. Henry; artful witticisms, references to real persons, mixed with fictional characters, and the characteristic surprising twist at the end.

Christians stunned after Obama appoints THIS person to lead faith-based agency

 An it.

Barack Obama has appointed a man who identifies as a woman to serve on his Advisory Council on Faith-Based Neighborhood Partnerships.
Earlier this year we learned about Dr. Richard Levine, a man who ‘identifies as a woman’ as Pennsylvania’s new Physician General. Not to be outdone by a state, the Obama administration has kicked things up a notch with the appointment of a cross-dressing, gender-bending man of its own, but perhaps what’s more surprising than the “who” part of the appointment is the “to what.”

Last Thursday the White House announced that the National LGBTQ Task Force’s Barbara Satin has been appointed to serve on President Obama’s Advisory Council on Faith-Based Neighborhood Partnerships.

Its nothing short of amazing how far this president has come since his public affirmation of belief that marriage is between one man an one woman just a few years ago.

English, Irish and Scots

 https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/ce/Dublin_Gate_1608_displaying_the_heads_of_Irish_rebels_Cahir_O'Doherty_and_Felim_Riabhach_McDavitt.jpg

My people are the O'Dochartaigh of Inishowen, Donegal, Ireland.  Anglicized, that's
Doherty.  My uncle paid for a genealogical report back in the sixties.  Reputable
Irish genealogist, etc, etc, etc.

The report goes back to about 760AD which is pretty damn far back.  It was about
that time that O'Dochartaighs defeated another clan and claimed Inishowen as their
turf.  They converted and became Catholic soon after.

Ancient history is interesting but not immediately relevant to my point, so I'll fast
forward here a bit.  The English had conquered Ireland and were 'restocking' the
place with Scots and English colonists and lords proprietors.  They simply killed off
your people and took your land, to give to favored friends of the Crown.  This went
on for about three hundred years when Sir Thomas Cahir O'Dochartaigh, in 1608,
raised rebellion and for a space, won victory after victory, until he was shot dead in
his own camp, by an English marksman. So the expropriations continued and even
accelerated in fact, continuing on another 300 years.

Now, my basic point is almost in view . . . The English celebrate their history without going
into too much detail.  They routinely kidnapped Irishmen and Scots for 'transportation' to
their burgeoning imperial colonies.  Mainly Catholics, who were undesirables in their own
country.  England imported Scots Presbyterians to populate the country.  This is the origin
of the 'Troubles' in Northern Ireland.

A young man might be 'taken up' from a country road, farm field, or fishing smack without
notice or explanation, and disappear into the vast British empire, as soldier, sailor, or slave.
A young woman might be taken up as the boy was, and also 'transported' for service as
a maid, kitchen or scullery, milk maid, or just to provide brood stock for the soldiery.

The English knew they would never outnumber the natives in those far flung outposts,
and certainly didn't approve interbreeding; so Michael and Mary were shipped in to
make up a 'tame' subject population.  Michael married to his Regiment, and Mary bred
to raise sturdy white 'Settlers' and replenish the stock of white 'servants' and soldiers.

It's human nature to make the best of your situation, and TPTB knew that, so they
could count on their 'servants' acclimating to their new and strange circumstances.
Or dying.  Bit of a bother, that, but there are lots of Irish.

The English upper crust never saw anything wrong with Feudalism and their descendants
still don't; we're now headed for a new 'Empire' based on the same social order.

A few 'Rich and Famous' served by the many poor and ignorant.

How the White House Smeared Benjamin Netanyahu to Sell the Iran Deal

Testifying before Congress, Michael Doran explains how the Obama administration worked to conceal its true intentions in making a deal with Iran, namely to realign the U.S. with the Islamic Republic and disengage from America’s historic allies in the region. The White House further obscured discussion of the deal’s merits by attempting to manipulate an all-too-pliant media; these efforts included what Doran terms a “venomous whisper campaign” to cast the Israeli prime minister “as the villain of the Middle East peace process, an arch-nationalist with unseemly ties to the Republican party who refuses to make the necessary compromises to bring about an historic reconciliation with the Palestinians.”

Sensibility Reigns! U. Tennessee forced by lawmakers to shut down campus diversity office

A law approved this week says state funds may not be used by the University of Tennessee to fund its Office of Diversity and Inclusion in the coming fiscal year.

With that, the university has shut the office down and eliminated its four staff positions — a $445,000 cut.

“The law, which reallocates the money to fund scholarships for minority students in engineering programs, is only in effect for one year,” reports the Knoxville News Sentinel.

The law comes after the diversity office made national headlines last fall with its request to students to use “gender-neutral pronouns” such as “ze, xe, xem, xyr, zirs and hirs.” Then last December the office again made national news with its holiday “best practices” list that said holiday parties should not have Secret Santa-themed gift exchanges and told the campus “ensure your holiday party is not a Christmas party in disguise.”

The over-the-top political correctness was all too much for state lawmakers.

*******************

Below would be a parody in a sane world.
The new law does not permit us to reallocate money to continue to fund the Office of Diversity and Inclusion from another budget. As a result, there will be a reorganization of the units that reported to the vice chancellor for diversity and inclusion. The Office of Multicultural Student Life will report to the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Life; the Office of Equity and Diversity will report to the chancellor; the Educational Advancement Program will report to the Office of the Provost; and the Commission for Blacks, the Commission for LGBT People, the Commission for Women, and the Council for Diversity and Interculturalism will report to the chancellor. The Pride Center will remain a gathering space for students, but it will no longer be staffed by university employees.
