Former Obama Official Mentions ‘Military Coup’ As A Possibility Against Trump

Via Billy

Ex-Obama official, Rosa Brooks calls for a ‘military coup’ against Trump in a blog post for Foreign Policy Magazine.

According to Breitbart

In a blog post for Foreign Policy magazine, Rosa Brooks, a former Obama administration official, outlined four ways to “get rid” of President Trump, including declaring him mentally unfit for command or carrying out a military coup.

Brooks is a Schwartz senior fellow at the New America Foundation, which is funded by billionaire George Soros’s Open Society Foundations. She served from 2009-2011 as Counselor to the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy and served as a senior adviser at Obama’s State Department.

Her posting is titled “3 Ways to Get Rid of President Trump Before 2020,” although the piece actually outlines four ways….

Elect him out of office after his four-year term. “But after such a catastrophic first week, four years seems like a long time to wait,” she wrote.
Impeachment. However, she lamented, “impeachments take time: months, if not longer — even with an enthusiastic Congress. And when you have a lunatic controlling the nuclear codes, even a few months seems like a perilously long time to wait.”
Utilizing a claim of mental instability to invoke the 25th Amendment of the Constitution, which sets the path for the commander-in-chief’s removal if the “president is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office.”
A military coup. She writes: “The fourth possibility is one that until recently I would have said was unthinkable in the United States of America: a military coup, or at least a refusal by military leaders to obey certain orders.”

  1. What this bluebird doesn't seem to grasp, is just who will run the show after a military coup.

I can't see into the future, but I'd imagine that the typical military overseers of her desired martial law will not have much time for the twitterings of a Schwartz senior fellow at the New America Foundation.

    Unintended Consequences.

  2. A military coup was a far more likely and preferrable possibility for Obama. --Ron W

    1. If you call a .00001% "far more likely" than a .000001% chance.

The US military is inherently, by design and inclination, incapable of a military coup against anyone. It is their calling to serve, even serving a Commander they think is unworthy. If an officer won't rebel against a senior officer that he thinks is dangerously incompetent, and we have all seen plenty of those, what makes you think the same officer will rise up against an elected president?

The only person who could suggest such a thing is someone who has zero experience with the military and has never met anyone in it.

  4. I am thinking the military

    1) Much prefers to follow Trumps orders than any Democrat
    2) Might only balk if he asked them to go to Commie Fornia to prevent a secession (ala Lincoln)....and even then they might well go with a chance to fight against people who hate America might fall into the "domestic enemy" part of the oath.

  6. Whatever one may think of Trump, I think our military should know that they have his appreciation, admiration and utmost respect. It's more likely that most of them would support Trump against an attempted coup. --Ron W

  7. I have read similar indulgences from Foreign policy magazine before and it is evident why Trump does not go to the "progessional" foreign policy gurus when such tripe is the usual limit to all their solutions. It is likely their solution to the Ukraine fiasco and they couldn't even pull it off. I say keep all those gurus on the magazine staff so the taxpayers don't have to pay for their stupid shit. 1. I imagine the Ukraine isn't even at the bottom of Trump's list and rightly so.

  8. We do have a word for this: sedition. I wonder if she realizes that there is a legal penalty for it; death. In calling for a military coup, she does not have the slightest clue of what she is calling for.
