Rhode Island’s Profitable Past

http://newporthistory.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/book-cover-low-res.jpg

|Though the smallest State of the United States, Rhode Island’s contributions toward populating America with enslaved Africans was massive, and they were joined in this endeavor by New York and Massachusetts. It is said that Liverpool shipbuilders complained to Parliament of trained British shipwrights being lured across the Atlantic with higher pay, and which allowed Rhode Island to surpass Liverpool as the center of the transatlantic slave trade by 1750.

Rhode Island’s Profitable Past

“Soon after its settlement, Bristol [Rhode Island] people began to engage in commerce with the West Indies and the Spanish Main. The first recorded shipment (November 6, 1686) consisting of a number of horses, was consigned to the “Bristol Merchant,” bound for Surinam, British Guiana. [The] Slave trade was introduced in Rhode Island about 1700, and Bristol was not slow in joining Newport and Providence in this highly profitable industry.

It has been estimated that over a fifth of the total number of slaves crossed the Atlantic to British America in Rhode Island vessels, and that of this fifth Bristol slavers carried the largest share. Horses, sheep, pickled fish, onions, carrots, etc. made up the cargo on the outward voyage, and coffee, molasses, sugar, rum and tropical fruits were imported. The outbreak of the Revolution struck hard at the prosperity of this flourishing commercial town.

After the war the people of Bristol rebuilt the town and commerce was soon revived, especially the slave trade with Africa and molasses and rum trade with Cuba.”

Melania Trump Brings Luxury Fashion to Great Wall of China

Not at Great Wall, but my favorite.

I wish she had gone to Vietnam.  They would have loved her.

First Lady Melania Trump brought high fashion to the Great Wall of China as she toured the historic monument Friday while President Donald Trump visits Vietnam.

For her trip to see the Great Wall, Melania chose an array of luxury fashion, starting with a black turtle-neck and double face cashmere wheat-colored wrap skirt from Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s “The Row” label.

Over her shoulders, Melania draped a black Dolce & Gabbana coat and on her feet, the Slovenian-born former model chose beige pointed flats. But the most exquisite portion of the ensemble was the scalloped-edged nude-toned wide leather Azzedine Alaïa belt. The Alaïa accessory retails at Barney’s for more than $1,400.

Gun Ownership Is A Collective Responsibility

 https://cached-assets.patriotpost.us/images/2016-06-20-e4e3276c_large.jpg

Gun-grabbers like to point out how many deaths are caused by firearms every year. That's it, that is the extent of their thought or perspective, because their goal is not public safety, but the disarmament of their fellow citizens. If public safety were the issue, as they claim, they would be for the proliferation of arms in the hands of citizens.

In every anti-gun argument for the confiscation of guns begins with the figure of gun use in self defense, which is usually low, around 2,000 times and then that is compared to the number of times that guns are used, roughly 54,000 times. This includes officer involved shootings, both ways as the shooter and as the victim (about 2000); it includes injuries (27,000) and deaths (13,000); it does NOT include the 22,000 suicides, so a bit of honesty there.

But, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) puts the figures a little differently that does not support the assertions of the anti-gunners.

Resuming rebuke of Obama, (Son of a whore - You son of b****. You can go to hell) Duterte calls him 'black, arrogant'

President Rodrigo Rodrigo Duterte blasted former US President Barack Obama anew, calling him "black" and "arrogant" in a speech before a Filipino community on the sidelines of a regional summit in Vietnam.

Aside from Obama, Duterte also launched a volley of verbal tirades against his Western critics such some Europeans and Americans who called on the government to take steps to end drug-related killings and cases of human rights abuses alleged to have marred the government's war on drugs.

The chief executive said that he resented these international criticisms since he was the leader of a sovereign nation representing its people.

X
"Itong mga puti, mga taga-EU, itong mga ignorante ng mga Amerikano, pretending to be pati itong si Obama. Itim-itim mo mayabang ka. Siya man yun. (These white people, those from EU, the ignorant Americans, pretending to be, this Obama. You are so black and arrogant.) [He] reprimanded me. Why do you reprimand me? I'm the president of a country," Duterte angrily said.

One of many tirades

In September last year, the foul-mouthed chief executive called the then American leader "son of a b****" and warned Obama to be respectful should they meet at a regional forum in Laos.

"You must be respectful. Do not just throw away questions and statements. Son of a whore, I will curse you in that forum," Duterte said then before departing for Laos.

George P. Bush Is ‘Re-Imagining’ Reality With A ‘Kinder, Gentler’ Alamo

Texas and its most sacred and iconic historical sites — like the Alamo — are under constant attack by patronizing pseudo-intellectuals who only seem to care about history when it involves blind and uncritical acceptance of “alternative facts” about our state’s past.

Historians now “know” that the Lone Star State (along with the entire American Southwest) is built on land “stolen” from Mexico, that Jim Bowie was a staggering drunk and that Davy Crockett “may” have surrendered to the Mexican Army instead of being killed in action swinging “Old Betsy.”

For some, these “alternative facts” make the Alamo a symbol of racism and imperialism that should be “re-imagined,” at least according to the Texas Land Office.

That’s what the “Reimagining the Alamo” project directed and supervised by political neophyte and Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush is all about.

Joseph Mifsud met with the Russian ambassador to the UK Alexander Yakovenko in May 2014.

Joseph Mifsud, the Maltese academic suspected of being a link between the Trump campaign and Russian officials, was once a regular on the foreign policy circuit, attending conferences the world over.

Now, after being identified as a key figure in the US special counsel investigation into Russian influence over the 2016 US presidential election, Mifsud has gone to ground.

Last Thursday he disappeared from the private university in Rome where he teaches. Repeated attempts to reach him since have been unsuccessful, though he appears to have read some messages from CNN.

The Rat In Alabama & Reporter Secretly Recorded Offering Woman $1000 to Accuse Moore

Via Billy

 http://www.theblaze.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/morris-448.jpg

How convenient for Democrats that the allegations against Roy Moore in his Alabama Senate race surfaced after the Republican primary and after the deadline had passed to put a new candidate on the ballot. The 48-year-old charges come from a woman with three divorces and three bankruptcies. And only after Moore has run for governor and been elected twice to be Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court.

I smell a rat.

 *********************

@umpire43 You might advise your friend w the tape to contact the Moore team directly as well. Somehow I'm not sure the Co DA's office is out of reach of the establishment's particular brand of corruption

There’s a claim spreading on social media that a reporter was taped while reportedly offering a woman $1000 to accuse Senate candidate Roy Moore of sexual improprieties.

The unconfirmed rumor, which seems to have originated from a former Secret Service agent, claims the woman taped the conversation she had with the reporter and sent copies to the Etowah Co. District Attorney and the FBI.

While the claim has yet to be verified, what we do know so far is that prior to accusing Moore of sexual misconduct, the Washington Post endorsed his opponent, Doug Jones, on Oct. 23.

Global Warming

For centuries, human beings, inquisitive by disposition and design, have sought to understand the workings of the natural world in which they live.  Scientists, observing these same events, are driven by the demands of scientific inquiry to study natural events and explain how they occur so that this knowledge can be used to improve the human condition.

To begin the process of scientific investigation, scientists make an “educated guess,” or hypothesis, to explain the observed activity.  It is, however, not sufficient to propose the explanation without proving its accuracy.  An experiment must be carefully designed so that the results will either support or disprove the truth of the “educated guess.”  As the experiment proceeds, data is collected, analyzed, and conclusions are reached in an orderly process.

In Austin’s Veterans Day parade, Adler won’t walk if Confederate flag flies

Via Billy

Austin Mayor Steve Adler’s Veterans Day itinerary is less notable for what it includes — a volunteer shift at the Central Texas Food Bank — than what’s missing.

The mayor announced he will not march in the Veterans Day parade Saturday on Congress Avenue “because that parade will include groups carrying the Confederate flag.”

“Veterans Day should only be about honoring *United States Military Veterans,” Adler said in his statement. “Symbols of racism, Civil War secession, and white supremacy should not be forgotten or erased, but they need to be remembered and studied in museums and classrooms not cheered and applauded in parades.”*Confederate Veterans are recognized as being American Veterans by an act of Congress.

Army officer: In a divided country, will it soon become dangerous to wear my uniform in public?

Via Billy

army_uniform2

I remember when I first heard a Vietnam veteran’s story. I was captivated as he described his desperate attempts to render aid as his dying best friend bled out in front of him. Half a world away and decades later in 2008, the scene was still painful for him to recall. But the most shocking part of the story was his return home.

My heroic friend described having to change out of his uniform before roaming American streets – or else he’d be subject to threats. I was only 15 and I simply couldn’t believe that civilians would spit on, curse and even attack returning veterans. And all this happened on American soil.

Serving in the Army today, my peers and I have a very different experience. When we wear our uniforms in public we get pats on the back, offers to pay for our meals, and warm remarks expressing gratitude for our service. Certainly, much has changed for the better. But sometimes I wonder if things will always be this way.

Blackouts from Phoenix to Los Angeles if coal plant shuts down, study from coal company says

A study being released Thursday will warn of brownouts and blackouts if the largest coal plant in the West is shut down in favor of natural gas-fired electricity.

The study by consultants Quanta Technology and funded by coal giant Peabody was submitted to Arizona’s state utility commission. It supports keeping the Navajo Generating Station open or risk significant dangers from brownouts and blackouts in the region. Peabody supplies the station with coal.

The study shows that Arizona’s dependence on a few natural gas pipelines to supply the entire state would pose a key vulnerability to grid reliability if Arizona were to become overly reliant on natural gas power plants to provide the bulk of its electricity. It also looked at what the reliability hurdles would be if the Palo Verde nuclear power plant in Arizona unexpectedly closed.
The results would be bad on many levels, the study found.

Sibel Edmonds: Robert Mueller Covered Up Islamic Terror Networks, FBI Agents Would “Testify” That He Cannot Be An Impartial Special Prosecutor In Trump-Russia Probe

In a stunning interview on The Alex Jones Show, famed FBI whistleblower Sibel Edmonds completely destroyed special counsel Robert Mueller, laying out a series of facts that paint Mueller as a deep state operative who in the past has actively covered up Islamic terror networks and is now conducting a sort of “new McCarthyism” in his sham investigation into supposed ties between President Trump and Russia.

Edmonds noted her background dealing with Mueller and it is not pretty. Not only did he help suppress evidence in her case he also issued a gag orders to silence the truth.

“Imagine my shock when I saw that Robert Mueller was appointed as the special counsel in this case, the same Robert Mueller, wh

“There were FBI agents, not only in the Washington field office, but also in the Chicago and Patterson field offices, who were blowing the whistle on Mueller internally, saying hes squashing our investigations [into terror networks].”

Trump in Vietnam: US will not 'be taken advantage of anymore'

President Trump on Friday laid out his "America first" trade agenda in Asia, delivering a denunciation of the "unfair" multilateral trade agreements that he said undermine the United States' "sovereignty" and economic power.

Speaking to a gathering of CEOs on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Vietnam, Trump vowed to strike bilateral trade agreements "with any Indo-Pacific nation that wants to be our partner and that will abide by the principles of fair and reciprocal trade."

"From this day forward, we will compete on a fair and equal basis. We are not going to let the United States be taken advantage of anymore," he said. "I am always going to put America first the same way that I expect all of you in this room to put your countries first."

By December, Nixon had reached 68 percent approval in the Gallup Poll, though, a year earlier, he had won but 43 percent of the vote.

Did Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore engage in inappropriate sexual advances toward a 14-year-old in 1979? That’s what The Washington Post’s latest blockbuster story alleges. Not just one girl either; three other women told the Post that Moore pursued and/or engaged in relationships with them when they were minors, though only the first alleged non-consensual behavior.

We’ll begin with this question: What did the Post reporters know and when did they know it?

Vietnam Veterans Set the Record Straight After PBS TV Series Whitewashes Communism

Via Mike

a list of names in white on a marble slab, soldiers who died or went missing in the Vietnam War.

This week, Vietnam veterans sent a letter to PBS, Ken Burns, and Bank of America setting the record straight about the Vietnam War.PBS's new documentary TV series, "The Vietnam War," produced by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick and funded by Bank of America, left out key aspects of the war, including the communist connections of North Vietnamese dictator Ho Chi Minh and the brutal repression after the war, veterans alleged.

"The whole cause of all this agony and bloodshed was the aggressive North Vietnamese invasion of the South. If it hadn't been for that, none of this ever would have happened," Lewis Sorley, a Vietnam War veteran, historian, and director at Vietnam Veterans for Factual History (VVFH), told PJ Media in an interview Wednesday. "Burns never seems to find that worth mentioning or condemning and I wonder why."

Sorley alleged that Burns and his fellow filmmakers "had clearly decided that they wanted to tell the standard left-wing narrative of an unwinnable, unjust war." The PBS documentary also obscured the evil of communism throughout the war and afterward. The veteran suggested that presenting the American and South Vietnamese forces as heroic would be "anathema" to the filmmakers.
