Thomas J. “Stonewall” Jackson

 jackson colorized

This essay is part of the chapter “Southerners” in Brion McClanahan’s The Politically Incorrect Guide to Real American Heroes

The Northern essayist and Republican partisan E.L. Godkin wrote following the death of “Stonewall” Jackson in 1863 that Jackson was “the most extraordinary phenomenon of this extraordinary war.

Pure, honest, simple-minded, unselfish, and brave, his death is a loss to the whole of America, for, whatever be the result of this war, the United States will enjoy the honor of having bred and educated him.” Godkin claimed him because he recognized that Jackson was more than a representative of the South, he was an American hero, pure and simple.

Jackson was born in 1824 in Clarksburg, Virginia. While the Jacksons had a solid reputation in America, they came from humble beginnings.

One Jew’s Red-Pill Journey II

Let me step back in time because I realized there are a couple of things I want to cover that I didn’t think of before.

First, I was still in elementary school when a kid decided he was going to elevate his social status by picking on me.  Now understand that at the time I was not high on the social pecking order, and so was a prime target.  He started off by calling me names, which I ignored – “Be the bigger man,” my father said.  Soon that escalated to shoves, and punches on the arm in addition to the verbal abuse.  “Violence never solves anything,” admonished my parents, so again I did nothing.  One day, while we were waiting to go back into our homeroom with some other students, he attempted a karate kick.  I warned him, that being the proverbial last straw.  He did it again… not only did I pound on him, I picked him up and threw him against a wall and down he went.  He never bothered me again.
Lesson learned: sometimes violence is the answer.
Not long after that another kid started the same thing and no longer was I tolerant.  He insulted me, gave it right back.  He punched me, I’d hit him back harder.  He quickly decided to seek out an easier target, and many, many years later this passage from the book StarshipTroopers came along in my scifi reading, and it rang 100% true:

Steve Hilton: Much of the federal government should be shut down -- and power given back to the people

The conventional wisdom about the government shutdown chaos in Washington is completely wrong. Whoever you listen to, their explanation for the shambles is political.

If you’re on the left you blame President Trump – just as you blame him for everything from bad weather to burned toast. If you’re on the right you call it the “Schumer Shutdown” – after Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y. – and point out that today’s Democrats are being driven by their extreme “open borders” base.

For what it’s worth, I agree that the Democrats are in thrall to their party’s extremes, in particular on the issue of immigration. And it surely makes sense to handle the DACA issue as part of a negotiated immigration deal, including the border wall and an end to the diversity visa lottery and chain migration.

Using the “Dreamers,” as DACA recipients are known, to hold up agreement on the entire federal budget is a ridiculous and damaging stunt.

Why is liberal California the poverty capital of America? - 60% of Californians live in poverty and don’t have jobs.

 https://www.blazingcatfur.ca/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Poverty-400x272.jpg

Guess which state has the highest poverty rate in the country? Not Mississippi, New Mexico, or West Virginia, but California, where nearly one out of five residents is poor. That’s according to the Census Bureau’s Supplemental Poverty Measure, which factors in the cost of housing, food, utilities and clothing, and which includes noncash government assistance as a form of income.

Given robust job growth and the prosperity generated by several industries, it’s worth asking why California has fallen behind, especially when the state’s per-capita GDP increased approximately twice as much as the U.S. average over the five years ending in 2016 (12.5%, compared with 6.27%).

Why Ruby Ridge Still Matters

Via 4Branch

After violence in Charlottesville last August, a Washington Post article asserted that alienated right-wingers had “sparked the deadly standoff in Ruby Ridge, Idaho” in 1992.  Ruby Ridge has recently been invoked by many people to show the need for federal crackdowns on dangerous extremists.  Unfortunately, the mainstream media has largely forgotten – or expunged – the federal misconduct and deception that permeated that showdown.   But it is difficult to comprehend the fear that many Americans have of the government without reconsidering Ruby Ridge.

Did Christopher Steele Write His Dossier, or Did a Russian Associate?

Among the few givens in the unfolding drama of alleged Russia-Trump collusion is that former MI6 intelligence officer Christopher Steele wrote the Donald Trump-Russia dossier, alternately known as the "Steele Dossier."

This is the notorious document that purports to detail "Republican candidate Donald Trump's activities in Russia and compromising relationship with the Kremlin."

The above quote is from the subhead of the document, titled "Company Intelligence Report 2016/080."  Yet the same subhead hints at a disturbing pattern evident throughout the document: it appears to be written by someone whose native language is something other than English.

Trump's first year: He has delivered on his promises

The past year will go down in political history as the year that more people were wrong about more things than any other time – at least since the year before. President Trump was written off before inauguration day in the most derisive terms as someone who would be a failure from day one. And yet, as we look back on the first year of his presidency, it was one of consequence and accomplishment.

As we move forward in 2018, how can you not be rooting for this president? For the first time in a long time, Washington is getting things done. Last year, we saw major policy initiatives that had been talked about by the leadership of both parties for decades actually enacted.

There are many accomplishments for the Trump administration to trumpet – but there are three big ones that matter the most because of their tangible and relatively immediate impacts on economic growth. They have helped cement market dynamics that will drive continued economic expansion in the long term.

Marco Rubio: Democrats already wavering on shutdown

There is nothing in the funding bill the Democrats oppose. They voted against it & shutdown the govt. because it didn’t include 1/8
Democrat position on untenable. Americans know it’s better to keep govt. open while continuing to negotiate these other issues 6/8
Sen. Marco Rubio predicted on Saturday that Senate Democrats will soon give up their insistence that a government funding bill must include language to protect Dreamers.

"Impossible to justify cancelling defense training & pay for military over demands for #DACA especially since doesn't expire for weeks," Rubio tweeted.

"Should NOT cave to this radical hostage taking," he added. "More @SenateDems are ready to soon begin to abandon this insane #SchumerShutdown."

Illegal Aliens Quietly Being Relocated Throughout U.S. on Commercial Flights

Immigrants entering the United States illegally through the southern border are quietly being relocated to different parts of the country on commercial flights, high-ranking Homeland Security officials told Judicial Watch this week. In the last few days alone, groups of illegal aliens boarded planes at airports in Texas and Arizona accompanied by a taxpayer-funded government escort in civilian clothes to avoid drawing attention. The first flight originated at Valley International Airport in Harlingen, Texas and was bound for Minneapolis. The second left from Tucson International Airport and arrived in Salt Lake City, Utah, federal sources said. In both locations the illegal aliens appeared to be in their late teens and were escorted by a Health and Human Services (HHS) chaperone. Judicial Watch reached out to HHS for comment but did not hear back from the agency.

The illegal aliens wear red HHS wrist bands and receive “the gold glove treatment,” according to a veteran federal official, who added that the undocumented immigrants get priority boarding ahead of all other passengers, including law enforcement personnel.

Sheriff: FBI Has Ongoing Case Against Individual Other Than Paddock

Las Vegas sheriff Joe Lombardo revealed that there is an ongoing FBI case against an “individual of federal interest” other than Stephen Paddock or his girlfriend Marilou Danley.

Paddock opened fire on a country music festival on Oct. 1, 2017, from a room in the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas, killing 58 people and injuring 546.

Trump shuts down immigration talks with Democrats until government reopens

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said Saturday that the White House wouldn't negotiate with Democrats on immigration at all until they agree to keep the government open, a statement she delivered just after most Democrats voted against a last-minute continuing spending resolution.

“We will not negotiate the status of unlawful immigrants while Democrats hold our lawful citizens hostage over their reckless demands,” Sanders said. “This is the behavior of obstructionist losers, not legislators. During this politically manufactured Schumer Shutdown, the President and his Administration will fight for and protect the American people.”

“Senate Democrats own the Schumer Shutdown,” Sanders added. “Tonight, they put politics above our national security, military families, vulnerable children, and our country's ability to serve all Americans.”

“Chesty” Puller and the Southern Military Tradition: VMI, Stonewall & Lee narrated by John Wayne

Lewis Burwell Puller is a Marine Corps legend and American hero. Nicknamed “Chesty” for his burly physique, he was one of the most combat-hardened leaders in military history and saw action in Haiti, Nicaragua, WWII, and Korea. The winner of five Navy Crosses and many other medals, he will always be remembered as a fierce warrior and proud patriot.

One area of Chesty’s life that deserves more scholarly research is his southern heritage. He was born in Virginia in 1898 and was raised on stories of the Confederacy. His grandfather, John Puller, was killed while riding under Jeb Stuart at the battle of Kellys Ford in 1863. Local veterans told young Chesty about his grandfather’s bravery, as John had stayed atop his saddle long after having his midsection torn apart by a cannon. After his grandfather’s death, federals burned the Puller home and his grandmother was forced to walk ten miles, through a sleet storm, for help.

Puller was proud of his ancestry, and his southern roots ran much deeper than The War Between the States (his term of choice for the “Civil War”).

Shiver me timbers! New signs pirates liked booty _ and books

Dead men tell no tales, but there’s new evidence that somebody on the Blackbeard’s flagship harbored books among the booty.

In an unusual find, researchers have discovered shreds of paper bearing legible printing that somehow survived three centuries underwater on the sunken vessel. And after more than a year of research that ranged as far as Scotland, they managed to identify them as fragments of a book about nautical voyages published in the early 1700s.

Conservators for Blackbeard’s ship the Queen Anne’s Revenge found the 16 fragments of paper inside the chamber of a cannon, with the largest piece being the size of a quarter.
