Protect Dreamers and build the wall, and we can all win

 

 

The government shutdown is in its fourth week, with no end in sight because our leaders in Washington don’t seem to want an end that doesn’t amount to political humiliation of the opposition.

But imagine for a moment that President Donald Trump and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer could see their way to a compromise that Americans would support and that would greatly benefit this country.

To us, it would look like this: The president would get the funding he seeks to enhance border security, including some 230 miles of physical barrier, but also with more technologically sophisticated solutions.

In return, the president would agree to a sweeping deal to protect young people who were brought to this country without authorization at ages when they had no say over what happened to them.

Southern Conservatives

 

It all started in 1981 when M.E. Bradford was selected by Ronald Reagan as Chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities. He had the support of no less prominent conservatives than Russel Kirk and Forrest McDonald. But, he had the disdain for Southerners by Neocons such as Norman Podhoretz and William Kristol. Neocon Bob Bennett was selected after Reagan caved.

The South is and always been conservative. But with the constant hammer of political correctness and political falsehood (redundant?) pounded on it, it has waffled among many who brand it as evil. Punchy from the blows, it has sought to defend itself in the wrong places: In presentism and with Republicans.

Republican and Air Force veteran Mike Hill, the first black elected to state office in the Florida panhandle since the War Between the States, has introduced a bill that would protect all monuments: “The Soldiers’ and Heroes’ Monuments and Memorials Protection Act.”

Franklin Pierce, Political Protest, & the Dilemmas of Democracy

 

On the stump in New Boston, New Hampshire in early January 1852, Franklin Pierce gave a long oration during which free-soil hecklers forced him to address his ideas on slavery. “He was not in favor of it,” the Concord Independent Democrat reported. “He had never seen a slave without being sick at heart. Slavery was contrary to the Constitution in some respects, and a blot upon the nation.”

Pierce also scorned the 1850 Fugitive Slave Act, which trumped various state-level “personal liberty laws” that weakened the original 1793 fugitive slave law. “[H]e said he did not like the law—he loathed it—it was opposed to humanity, and moral right.” Despite all this, the Constitution was a compromise, and if it had not been for the slavery provisions it would not have been enacted at all.

He may not like slavery or the fugitive slave laws, but the Constitution recognized them, and the benefits of the Constitution far out-weighed any other issue or concern. Disliking slavery yet fearful for national survival outside the Constitution—this was Pierce’s great dilemma and it makes a useful starting point to reassess his ideas, and those of conservative Northern Democrats, on the limits of abolition and protest.[1]

Mueller's Team Blasts BuzzFeed's Trump 'Bombshell' As 'Not Accurate'

 

Special counsel Robert Mueller's office pushed back on a "bombshell" report published by BuzzFeed News on Thursday, describing elements of the report as "not accurate."

In a statement to BuzzFeed News, a spokesperson for special counsel Robert Mueller's office wrote:

BuzzFeed's description of specific statements to the Special Counsel's Office, and characterization of documents and testimony obtained by this office, regarding Michael Cohen's Congressional testimony are not accurate.

Editor’s note: The following was written by Ilan Srulovicz, the CEO and founder of Egard Watch Company, explaining why his company produced an ad to counter Gillette’s recent commercial on masculinity.

The story behind making the video is interesting. I made the ad completely alone. The voice in the video is mine and the editing is my own. I was told by most people around me and in my company that making this video was a terrible idea and could not only hurt my brand but me personally as the CEO. I used my personal funds on the video because I was worried about the backlash.

The main feedback was, “This will draw attention away from women’s issues,” “The political climate right now won’t support a film like this,” “Ask yourself why no other company is doing it,” etc.
I considered releasing it anonymously but after some thought, I realized an individual releasing the message wasn’t going to have the same impact as a company doing it. I decided to risk it and post the video. I think what put me over the top is a quote I heard that says all actions come out of either love or fear. Releasing it anonymously felt like fear. Putting my company on the line for a message I believe in felt like love. I went with love.

Danish film maker, Michael Hansen, has released the third, in his “Killing really good things” series, to the public for now and until the US-Mexico border wall gets funded.

Please note: This movie was so well received by the actual US Border-Guard union, they arranged an unprecedented screening for politicians and the media in a theatre in San Diego California. Of course the media did not show up but some did write articles about racist-xenophobe-PoMo-buzzwords anyway without bothering to see it and yeah, no politicians showed either.

Dems' $15 Minimum Wage = Two Million Lost Jobs

Congressional Democrats roll out a legislative proposal to raise the minimum wage by more than 100%.

Congressional Democrats rolled out their latest vote-fishing and yet economy-crippling legislative proposal Wednesday — a nationwide minimum wage of $15 an hour to be fully implemented by 2024. With the announcement, Speaker Nancy Pelosi opined, “A $15 federal minimum wage affirms the bedrock idea of fairness in our country: that hard work deserves a decent wage.”

Rep. Bobby Scott (D-VA) declared, “When we put money in the pockets of American workers, they spend that money in their communities. So this bill will stimulate the economy on main street.” Scott failed to elaborate on who the “we” is that he’s referring to, but it’s a good bet he wasn’t talking about business owners who pay wages. Instead, he was no doubt referencing himself and Democrats, given the party’s long history of believing that the government, not private citizens working in a free-market economy, is responsible for producing wealth.

At Age 70, Time to Rethink NATO

So said President Charles De Gaulle, who in 1966 ordered NATO to vacate its Paris headquarters and get out of France.

NATO this year celebrates a major birthday. The young girl of 1966 is no longer young. The alliance is 70 years old.

And under this aging NATO today, the U.S. is committed to treat an attack on any one of 28 nations from Estonia to Montenegro to Romania to Albania as an attack on the United States.

New York Times Slams Karen Pence for Christian Beliefs on Marriage

 

The virulently anti-Christian mainstream press was back at work Wednesday, trashing Karen Pence, wife of Vice President Mike Pence, for teaching at a Christian school that holds the standard belief that marriage should be held between a man and a woman.

“Karen Pence, the second lady of the United States, returned to teaching art this week, accepting a part-time position at a private Christian school that does not allow gay students and requires employees to affirm that marriage should only be between a man and a woman,” the former paper of record said, scorning the second lady.

 Historian Victor Davis Hanson recently wrote, “There are 11 million to 13 million Mexican citizens currently living in the United States illegally.” (It may be closer to 22 million.) He continued, “Millions more emigrated previously and are now U.S. citizens. A recent poll revealed that one-third of Mexicans (34 percent) would like to emigrate to the United States. With Mexico having a population of about 130 million, that amounts to some 44 million would-be immigrants. Such massive potential emigration into the United States makes no sense.”

Florida governor suspends Palm Beach County elections supervisor

 

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) moved on Friday to suspend the top elections official in Palm Beach County.

DeSantis said that he would replace Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections Susan Bucher with Wendy Link, a West Palm Beach–based attorney and member of the State University System’s board of governors.

Palm Beach was among the counties at the center of a lengthy recount process that left the outcomes of three statewide races hanging in the balance for weeks after Election Day.

“The elections office in Palm Beach County demonstrated on a national stage that they simply could not comply with the laws of the state and that Supervisor Bucher could not discharge the duties that she was supposed to discharge,” DeSantis said.

We believe that when nations respect the rights of their neighbors, and defend the interests of their people, they can better work together to secure the blessings of safety, prosperity, and peace. 

On this point Trump and Churchill are agreed, and Macron is wrong. To have consent of the governed, there must be a people to give consent. Indeed, that is the first principle derived from human nature in the Declaration of Independence, and it is essential to distinguishing good government from bad

This is a rare article from e January 1979 issue of Human Nature magazine. It is written by Daniel G. Freedman, Ph.D. who did groundbreaking research into the genetic component of behavior. Research that, today, is met with extreme hostility by Marxist academics on college campuses. In fact, Freedman stated in 1979 that talking about ethnic differences is “politically and socially unpopular.”

During the 1970s, Freedman studied behavior traits in newborns to look for evidence that behavior is influenced by genes. He even spent time at the Australian National University where he studied Australian Aborigine newborns. Freedman is the author of the books Human Infancy: An Evolutionary Perspective, Human Sociobiology and co-author of Human Status Hierarchies.
