Adventures in the Southwest
A Review of Doniphan’s Expedition, Containing an Account of the Conquest of New Mexico . . . by John T. Hughes. Cincinnati, 1847 and Reid’s Tramp, or a Journal of the Incidents of Ten Months Travel Through Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Sonora, and California by John Coleman Reid. Selma, Ala., 1858.
The Mexican War and its aftermath turned American attention to the Southwest—an immense, sparsely settled, unmapped, and unknown territory of plains, deserts, mountains, dangerous savages and alien Mexicans. Two antebellum Southerners wrote first-hand books about this region that sold well and were nationally popular.
John Taylor Hughes (1817-1862) was born in Kentucky and was a schoolteacher in Missouri when he enlisted in the 1st Missouri (Mounted) Volunteer Regiment at the beginning of the Mexican War.

Quaker Masters and Their Property
The slave trade of New England increased as its maritime fleet competed with the mother country for the West Indian trade. By 1750, Providence, Rhode Island had surpassed Liverpool as the center of the transatlantic slave trade, and populated the West Indies and the American South with slaves purchased from African tribes in exchange for Yankee notions and rum.
Southern colonies tried to restrict the slave imports, and “Resolutions were passed in various Virginia counties against the African trade on the ground that it prevented manufacturers and other useful migrants from settling in the colony and instead increased the colony’s unfavorable balance of trade.”
Additional resistance to stopping the slave trade came from the British Crown, which overrode the Virginia and North Carolina colonial assemblies.

Quaker Masters and Their Property
“At all times the respectable complained that the wages of labor were too high. “Tis the poor that make the rich,” one writer frankly admitted in John Peter Zenger’s New-York Weekly Journal. [John] Logan complained to [William] Penn in 1705 that Pennsylvania was in depression because England with its cheap labor could undersell Pennsylvania in the provision trade in the West Indies. If only more people could be brought in to “lower the prices of labor,” the colony would prosper.
Penn’s view of indentured servants as property was still retained. The influential Quaker preacher, Thomas Story, exclaimed in 1741 that bought servants are as much “the property of their masters, as their lands, goods, money or clothing.” Without them the masters “could not cultivate their lands or maintain their families.” Therefore the governor is “infringing the just liberty and property of the people” in allowing the servants to enlist in the war emergency.
The assembly and council added that this “unconstitutional” practice injures the masters whose servants have not enlisted, for they “must humor them in everything lest they enlist.” Thus they grow “idle, neglectful, insolent and mutinous.”
The enlightened [Thomas] Mayhew of Massachusetts envied Pennsylvania her mass of German indentured servants. These, he declared in an election sermon in 1754, made Pennsylvania as rich and populous in a few years as the greatest and most opulent of colonies.
Even Washington, endeavoring to people his frontier lands for his own gain and his country’s protection in the cheapest, most effectual manner, thought strongly for a time of obtaining a “parcel of these people.”

There hasn’t been a single mass public shooting in any school that allows teachers and staff to carry guns legally. Since at least as far back as January 2000

In the latest two horrific school shootings, one at a STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) high school in Highlands Ranch, CO, and the other at a college in Charlotte, NC, two courageous students lost their lives as they tackled the shooters to stop the slaughter.
Never again should another precious young person with his whole life ahead of him need to die as a first responder.

Rand Paul: There is only one plan in Congress that will balance the budget in 5 years — and that’s my PENNY PLAN!
My budget plan, which has been submitted and could be voted on as soon as THIS WEEK, actually balances the federal budget in five years. HOW?
Well, it used to be we could balance by cutting one penny out of every dollar. Now, because politicians keep spending more and more of your money, we need to cut TWO pennies out of every dollar.
It shouldn't be this hard. And like it or not, I'm going to make everyone vote on this plan in the Senate.
Would you be able to make do with 98% of your income if you had to? Of course, most people could. And that's all we are asking the government to do.
By cutting two pennies out of every dollar, they were going to spend.
That's it. Congress can decide to NOT cut in one place, and cut more in another. That's important because maybe we don't want to cut X, but Y could sure use a more significant haircut.
The details are not in the budget plan, so no one has an excuse to vote NO!
But they'll try. That's why I'm writing to you today.

Candace Owens v Race-Baiting Congressman
Via Cousin John
"Do you want to see real hate? Be a black, female, conservative trailblazer like Candace Owens. It takes courage to stand up to the vitriolic, hateful left and that’s exactly what Candace did yesterday at her congressional testimony.
And it’s what Turning Point USA activists across the country do every day. Keep fighting, Candace. Keep waking up the black community. We’re all in this fight for America with you."
Elijah Cumming's wife may have gained 'illegal private benefit' from his committee activities
A charity run by the wife of Rep. Elijah Cummings received millions from special interest groups and corporations that had business before her husband’s committee and could have been used illegally, according to an IRS complaint filed by an ethics watchdog group.
Cummings, 68, a Maryland Democrat, is chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. His wife, Maya Rockeymoore, 48, is the chairman of the Maryland Democratic Party and briefly ran in the state's gubernatorial race last year. The couple married in 2008.
Cummings was once heavily in debt — in part due to hefty child support payments to his first wife and two other women he had children with — but his financial situation has improved considerably over the past decade.

Ex-Special Counsel Pulls Out All of Holder’s Dirty Laundry After Corrupt AG Attacks Barr
“You: swore falsely under oath in Fast & Furious and dared not name a Special Counsel; failed to name a Special Counsel in the IRS targeting scandal; failed to prosecute key players in the mortgage meltdown; aided and abetted the Marc Rich pardon,” Wisenberg, who served as the DOJ’s acting special counsel for judicial selection during the Reagan administration, tweeted Sunday. On the heels of special counsel Robert Mueller releasing his report on Russian meddling in the 2016 election, we’ve seen a firestorm of liberals attack Attorney General William Barr with baseless conspiracy accusations.
“You sir, were unfit to lead DOJ.”
One might have thought these accusations would eventually die down. After all, there’s quite a lot going on in Washington, D.C., and you’d think liberals would move on to something else.
Yet the attacks on Barr continue, even though Mueller did not charge President Donald Trump with any crime, be it related to alleged Russian collusion or obstruction of justice.

Fake Families, Fake Papers Are Rampant at Border

’I just brought her because I know they're gonna release me. So I asked her mom, ‘Can I bring her up here?’’
No one is able to estimate how many fraudulent families have already been released into the United States. But almost 250,000 individuals within “family units” have been apprehended by Border Patrol in the past seven months.
A new initiative by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), using rapid DNA testing, has revealed a 30 percent rate of fraud in the two test areas of El Paso and Rio Grande Valley, Texas.

NBC Journalist Quits Then Blows The Whistle On How Mainstream Media Deceives The Public
One person to speak out recently is NBC/MSNBC reporter William Arkin, a longtime and well-known military reporter who is best known for his groundbreaking, three-part Washington Post series in 2010. He co-reported it with two-time Pulitzer winner Dana Priest on how sprawling, unaccountable, and omnipotent the national security state has become in the post-9/11 era. This report dealt with black budget operations, programs that not even the commander in chief nor Congress has any idea about.
It is ironic that the U.S. should be fighting monstrously expensive wars allegedly to bring democracy to those countries, when it itself can no longer claim to be called a democracy when trillions, and I mean thousands of billions of dollars have been spent on projects which both congress and the commander in chief know nothing about. – Paul Hellyer, Former Canadian Defence Minister (source)Their investigation lasted approximately two years and concluded that America’s classified world has “become so large, so unwieldy and so secretive that no one knows how much money it costs, how many people it employs, how many programs exist within it or exactly how many agencies do the same work.”

Liar? Lynch Denied Instructing Comey To Downplay The Clinton Email Investigation

A joint task force made up of the House Judiciary and Oversight Committees on Monday released transcripts of various interviews with government officials. One of the transcripts was with former Attorney General Loretta Lynch. Specifically, the transcript reveals that Lynch denied ever directing FBI Director James Comey to refer to the Clinton email investigation as a "matter."
