The Wounded Knee Massacre: The Forgotten History of the Native American Gun Confiscation
Via Alex @ Ammo.com "Seemingly every statist campus radical knows about the Wounded Knee Massacre because it confirms what they already believe about white men suppressing the natives. Yet few know (or acknowledge) that it came right after the federal government confiscated the Native Americans’ guns. Oops. We recently published The Wounded Knee Massacre: The Forgotten History of the Native American Gun Confiscation chronicling the sordid details of one of the first federal gun confiscations."
The Battle at Wounded Knee is a significant battle in American history, as it put an end to the Indian Wars and is marked as the last official defeat of the Native Americans. But what’s not taught in history lessons is that Wounded Knee was one of the first federally backed gun confiscations in the history of the United States, and it ended in the massacre of nearly 300 unarmed people.
During the late 19th century, American Indians were allowed to purchase and carry firearms, just as white men were. The colonial gun laws did not bar Native Americans from possessing firearms, yet that natural right was violated by government forces at Wounded Knee. And once the guns were confiscated, the battle ensued.

[Photos] The Wilderness of Suburban Saigon in 1904
Special Services Depot, Phan Dinh Phung/Cong Ly, Saigon |
In 1904, the entirety of Saigon was confined to the area we know as District 1 today. Apart from the neatly planned city center and Cho Lon’s bustling trade town, the city’s peripheral regions were overrun with swamps and thick swaths of vegetation.
In this collection of black-and-white photo, a turn-of-the-century Saigon appears wild and undisturbed by the forces of urbanization. Still, we see in these shots the early steps in the French administration’s plans to tame the wilderness of southern Vietnam. In some shots, a system of tracks that made up the Hanoi–Saigon train route, which was known then as the Trans-Indochina Railway, was being laid out amidst forests and on the riverside while groups of taut laborers erect utility poles along the railroad.

Federal Judge announces she’s going to block Voter ID in North Carolina…
Via John
Republican attempts to require photo identification to vote in North Carolina are being thwarted again by judges hearing arguments that the mandate is tainted by bias that would deter black and Latino residents.
A federal court announced that next week U.S. District Judge Loretta Biggs will formally block a photo ID requirement scheduled to begin in 2020. Unless the upcoming preliminary injunction is successfully appealed, the requirement will be halted until a lawsuit filed by the state NAACP and others is resolved.
“…tainted by bias that would deter black and Latino residents…” I’ve just one question: Do black and Latino residents buy alcohol?
