Democrat governor: Extending stay-home order would have 'negligible impact' - Rebuts health adviser, arguing it's impossible to 'make everyone safe'

Amid fierce debate over the various approaches of governors to reopening their economies, the Democratic governor of Colorado is arguing that extending his stay-at-home order would have a "negligible impact" on the severity of the coronavirus' peak.

Jared Polis annouced this week a new phased plan beginning Monday that would include the partial reopening of offices and retail businesses, the Washington Examiner reported.

"Maintaining the stay-at-home order for an additional two weeks or even four weeks delays the peak, but it doesn’t really have anything more than a negligible impact in severity of the peak,” Polis said, citing a state model.

Antibody Test Results in New York City Tell Us One Thing: It’s Time to Get Back to Work

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the results of a statewide coronavirus antibody test Thursday and, as has been seen in studies conducted in multiple states, the actual rate of infection is many, many times higher than the reported rate of infection.

In the New York test, 3,000 adults in 19 counties, 40 localities were tested. The subjects were out shopping at grocery or big box stores when they were asked to participate in testing. Conservative activist Michelle Malkin backs Sessions for Senate, calls Tuberville an ’empty suit’

 

When conservative commentator and author Michelle Malkin appeared on WVNN radio on Wednesday to discuss President Donald Trump’s immigration executive order, she did not hold back on her opinions about Alabama’s United States Senate race.

Malkin has been fighting for conservative immigration reform in the United States for the last two decades and sees former Attorney General Jeff Sessions as a leader in that fight. She urged Alabama voters to vote against former Auburn football head coach Tommy Tuberville, referring to him as an “empty suit” and blasting him for his comments on immigration.

While touting Sessions, Malkin asked, “Who do we need in the Senate that is an expert on the most existential issue of our time, immigration and national sovereignty?”

Reopen People are Selfish?

There are those wanting to reopen states yet they’re being classified as selfish. There are those that rely on all kinds of people to supply them while they cower in fear at home. Isn’t that being selfish too? <------ p="" selfish="">

You expect your garbage to be picked up, you expect the grocery store to be open so you can get milk, you expect truck drivers to supply the stores, you expect farmers, meat packers, fruit and vegetable pickers all to keep food in that grocery store. <------- p="" selfish="">

You expect Amazon to still ship all the things you’re ordering while you sit at home shopping. You expect the delivery driver to leave it on your doorstep. You expect your phone to work, your power to stay on, and your mail to show up rain, sleet, or shine. <----- p="" selfish="">

And most important, you expect the doctors and nurses to be there if you need them.

The whole premise of shelter in place is based on the arrogant idea that others must risk their health so you can protect yours. There is nothing virtuous about ignoring the largely invisible army required to allow people to shelter in place.

I know there are some of you that are screaming mad about what I just said but stop and really think about what is allowing you to stay safe in your home.

I truly believe that with some common sense on my part, I could easily go back to life as it was. I want to go to restaurants, I want to shop at the little store just up the road.

And yes, I could catch COVID-19. I could also catch the flu or a cold, I could get run over by a bus, I could get struck by lightning. We take risks everyday. If you choose to stay home, that is absolutely your choice. And please don’t start screaming at me about how I’ll just spread it. Why are you worried? You won’t get it because you’re staying in your home. Are you going to shelter in place every time a new strand of the flu happens?

Our economy can’t withstand much more of this. If our economy collapses, so will the rest of the world’s. If that happens, you will see the rise of tyrants

I absolutely don’t want people to die...from COVID or anything else. I want people to live.
But sheltering in place is not living.

Harvard Anti-Homeschool Summit Set To Feature Speaker Who Believes ‘The State Confers Parenthood’

 

An upcoming Harvard summit on the dangers of homeschooling will feature lectures and discussions led by various Ivy League professors, bureaucrats, and doctors. The point of the whole event is basically that parents have no business teaching things to their kids. Based on the published agenda for the summit, there doesn’t appear to be much of an emphasis on intellectual diversity. For example, a debate titled “Reform Proposals” will have one side making the case for greater regulatory oversight of homeschoolers and the other side making the case for an outright ban of the practice. The idea that parents should be free to educate their children without government agencies breathing down their neck is not being considered.

As NC extends restrictions, officials in some counties blast ‘one size fits all’ policy

Some of Mecklenburg’s outlying counties are pushing back against Gov. Roy Cooper’s decision Thursday to extend North Carolina’s stay-at-home order.

Cooper extended the order from April 29 to May 8. He also announced a plan to phase in a return to more normal life that could last into June or July.

“The data in Gaston County, the capacity at our hospital and the information from our health department does not support the continued shutting down of our businesses and our churches,” commissioners Chairman Tracy Philbeck told the Observer. “I cannot justify what the governor is doing to our citizens.”

The press conference was on the website of the Swedish Health Ministry, posted April 22, and ran just over 45 minutes.

The “controversial” health minister of Sweden, Anders Tegnell, and colleagues revealed the latest results of the Sweden Covid model which—as we all know— did not lockdown, did not quarantine.

What made it “riveting” was this: There is no crisis, no death spikes, no national emergency, no shortage of hospital beds.

Trump Supporter Issues a Grave Warning That All of Us, Including the President, Need to Heed

I want four more years of what Trump has done. But 50,000 votes are the reason you don’t have President Hillary. If you think 30 million unemployed people doesn’t risk those 50k flipping sides, you’re a moron.

Conservative radio and television host Jesse Kelly, who voted for President Trump in 2016 and plans to do so in November, has an uncomfortable message for the President that he needs to listen to.

Through a series of tweets posted on Wednesday night, Kelly, unapologetic as always, issued a clear warning to the President that he owns these lockdowns and he must open up the economy now or face defeat in November.

Below is a transcript of Kelly’s comments, followed by my comments:

For those who’ve convinced themselves our wrecked economy is some Leftist plot, here you go. It’s not. Much as it sucks, Trump has been 100% behind these lockdowns. That’s simply a fact. For better or worse, he owns a lot of where we are.

You can get mad at me all you want. I voted for him. I’ll happily vote for him again. But you absolutely cannot absolve him of responsibility for this economic disaster. Maybe he does know more. Maybe he’s been right all along.

But 30 million unemployed, he owns it.

A bipartisan panel appointed by President Donald Trump to assess restoring economic normalcy issued a 17-page report on how to mount an "expeditious" return to work. While it also flags an important political issue critical to recovery, medical experts still object to a restart, absent meeting certain benchmarks. However, those benchmarks demand we return to the issue of why shutting down the economy became necessary in the first place.

Factors to which medical experts give weight in re-opening the economy include a rapid COVID-19 testing capability to identify, isolate and get those infected out of circulation, a drop in infection rates and finding a safe vaccine. This sounds logical, but what if we have based our actions to date on incorrect data and, therefore, faulty underlying assumptions?

Why Aren’t Americans Suing Their Way Out of Lockdown?

 

Whatever the causes of this uncharacteristic bit of non-litigiousness, Americans should know that ample legal precedents suggest that most shelter in place orders are unlawful and unconstitutional.

While presumed experts in Washington look for data that will justify reopening the economy, the third branch of government, the judiciary, has hardly been mentioned in the crisis to date but could play a key role in breaking any political stalemate.

So my spirits soared when I saw a partial headline reading “Coronavirus: Battle Breaks Out As Beach Visits Allowed …” But then I clicked and saw the rest of the headline: “in Northern Germany.”

A real estate agent in Texas filed for a temporary restraining order against his city’s mayor, who ordered a shutdown of “nonessential” businesses while a county order allowed all businesses to remain open. The local judge refused the TRO after the city passed a proper ordinance. Other scattered reports of suits, or their dismissal, have also made brief appearances.

Precious little else appears to be happening on the legal front. Below I list some possible reasons why:

CDC Director Robert Redfield gave an interview to the Washington Post on the Wuhan virus panic and he made it clear, as have other so-called public health authorities that these people really have no intention of letting us getting back to our lives and they have willing allies in the national media.

Even as states move ahead with plans to reopen their economies, the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warned Tuesday that a second wave of the novel coronavirus will be far more dire because it is likely to coincide with the start of flu season.

Liberal media bias on full display during White House's COVID-19 press briefings

 

Media's slant is likely a major factor contributing to the decline of newspapers and broadcast news ratings

Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis has coined a new phrase: “the Acela media.”

His reference was to the high-speed Amtrak train that travels between Washington, D.C., and Boston. Mr. DeSantis was indirectly criticizing the major media that have headquarters along that corridor, media that largely decides what Americans will know — or not know — about the COVID-19 virus and other subjects.

Watching the daily White House press briefings about the virus appears to have put reporters’ biases on naked display. Someone should come up with videos comparing how the press practically worshipped President Obama and his spokespeople with softball questions to the confrontational, ideologically slanted and “gotcha” questions thrown at President Trump.
