Cajun Music

 

 

If these were normal times, we’d all be unpacking our Mardi Gras gear right about now.  Purple, yellow, and green would be everywhere, and I would be writing about how the first (and oldest) Mardi Gras in North America was in Mobile, Alabama, and not New Orleans.  But things went a little haywire recently, and Mardi Gras got canceled.  However, just because we can’t have Mardi Gras doesn’t mean we can’t continue to enjoy some good old tail-waggin’ Cajun music, ahhh-eeeeee!!!!

So, what is Cajun music?  Cajun music comes from southern Louisiana, and is a juicy gumbo of French folk music, Caribbean music, Scots-Irish Appalachian music, Indian music, Jewish-German music, and the Blues.  Typically, Cajun music will mostly feature guitar, accordion, and triangle, yet will also have some various other folk instruments thrown in for flavor.

Slightly Woozier Thoughts on the Impossibility of Justice

 

Sixth, almost all of the celebrated shootings and brutality by police result from disobeying a cop’s orders. If a minion of the law tells you to stop and put your hands up, do it. You can sue later.

The other day a friend and I were partaking of the mortal remains of quite a number of defenseless grapes, and the subject of law enforce arose. Having spent a number of years as a police reporter, I began thinking of curious and often erroneous ideas that people have of what we regard as a system of justice. Without meaning to bore the reader, I offer the following thoughts and observations.

First, any system will make mistakes. The only way to convict all of the guilty is to convict everybody. The only way to avoid convicting the innocent is not to convict anyone. The more the system leans in one direction, the more it will err in the other.

Second, it is absurd to accept the Enlightenment idea that a criminal, having “paid his debt to society” by a stint in prison, will come out and make a new start as a normal human. The fact is that most crime is committed by career criminals. An armed robber aged twenty-nine invariably will have a rap sheet dating from puberty of thirteen arrests and a couple of convictions for assault, drug offenses, gun offenses, drugs, and so on. He is not going to make a fresh start.

He wrote an email to then-Director of National Intelligence James Clapper saying the dossier couldn't be "sufficiently corroborate[d]." I would like to take the time to share an update on the local monument situation. On Friday, February 12 I signed the papers with the Mayor of Rocky Mount to take possession of the monument and 2 remaining statues. We now have 120 days to take possession or the agreement is null and void.

Currently the wet conditions have caused a delay but all the pieces are in place for this to be completed. We still need to raise funds to cover all the costs.

Biden won’t rule out gun control via executive order

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki told reporters on Tuesday that President Joe Biden has not ruled out using executive orders for gun control.

When asked if Biden still intended to use executive action on gun control – a vow made during his campaign – Psaki responded, “The president has a range of actions at his disposal … he hasn’t ruled out either of those options.”

Rep. Adam Kinzinger Releases Scathing Letter He Received From Family Members After Calling for Trump’s Removal

 

 

The letter called for Kinzinger’s removal from office, proclaiming, “President Trump has done more for America in four years, than you, the [sic] Rino’s, and Democrats have done in years!”“It is now ‘most embarrassing’ to us that we are related to you,” she wrote. “You have embarrassed the Kinzinger family name!”

Republican Illinois Rep. Adam Kinzinger received a scathing letter from 11 members of his family two days after calling for the removal of then-President Donald Trump following the riot at the U.S. Capitol, The New York Times (NYT) reported.

The two-page, handwritten letter, authored by the congressman’s cousin, Karen Otto, accused Kinzinger of going against “Christian principles” and joining the “devil’s army.” It was sent by certified mail to Kinzinger’s father and copies were sent to other Illinois Republicans, according to The NYT.

House Republicans are demanding that Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) answer key questions about Capitol security both before and after the January 6th riots that left five people dead and dozens injured.

In a pair of requests, Republicans are demanding to know whether Pelosi had a hand in denying a request from Capitol Police chief Steven Sund for National Guard assistance ahead of the January 6th rally, and why, now that the threat of violence at the U.S. Capitol seems to have decreased markedly, National Guard troops are being asked to remain on duty in Washington, D.C., until early fall.

SCOTUS to Hear High-Profile Election Lawsuits for Pennsylvania, Michigan and Georgia

The Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) is set to hear a handful of high-profile election challenges at its mid-February conference taking place this week on February 19, 2021.

The cases include lawsuits filed by pro-Trump attorneys Lin Wood and Sidney Powell in Georgia and Michigan, a lawsuit filed by Pennsylvania Republican state Rep. Mike Kelly, and two lawsuits filed in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania by former President Donald Trump’s campaign.
