What Makes This Musician Great?–Robert Johnson

The sixth Southern musician to be examined in this series of What Makes This Musician Great will be a bluesman that was so good he became a ghost story – Robert Johnson.

The Blues is probably the most significant musical form created anywhere in the world in the 20th century, and it absolutely came straight out of the Mississippi Delta, which is the floodplain area of the Mississippi River that extends into Mississippi, Arkansas, and Louisiana.  “The Blues” is actually two different things – “Blues” refers to a major genre of American music, and “12-bar Blues” refers to the structural form of “The Blues,” which can be applied to music composed in practically every other genre and style available.  Obviously, Blues songs are in 12-bar Blues form, but so are many Rock songs, Jazz songs, Country songs, Tejano songs, Cajun songs, etc.  Someone could even compose an opera aria in a 12-bar Blues form if they wished.

The Blues evolved from Black field songs and work songs in Dixie around the turn of the 20th century.

The Latest: Vietnam imposes strict lockdown in southern city | The Independent

Tuan Hoang had innumerable videos on this subject today and the people are not happy. They've even brought down tanks/APC's.

In conclusion, "I’d say all of this on Twitter, but I can’t. You can, though."

Until this summer, Vietnam was a Covid success story.

Many Americans still think of Vietnam as a poor country of rice farmers. In fact, Vietnam’s economy has surged since 2000 as it picks up manufacturing priced out of China, its historic foe to the north. Fewer than 10 percent of Vietnam’s 100 million people now fall below the global poverty line.

Like China, Vietnam has a nominally Communist government better described as pro-growth and authoritarian. And like China, Vietnam moved aggressively to contain the coronavirus last year with apparent success.

Afghanistan: A Tragically Stupid War Comes to a Tragic End: Ron Paul

The Burning Platform

Sunday’s news reports that the Biden Administration mistakenly killed nine members of one Afghan family, including six children, in “retaliation” for last week’s suicide attack which killed 13 US servicemembers, is a sad and sick epitaph on the 20 year Afghanistan war.

Promising to “get tough” on ISIS, which suddenly re-emerged to take responsibility for the suicide attack, the most expensive military and intelligence apparatus on earth appears to have gotten it wrong. Again.

Interventionists love to pretend they care about girls and women in Afghanistan, but it is in reality a desperate attempt to continue the 20-year US occupation. If we leave, they say, girls and women will be discriminated against by the Taliban.

Angry Joe Biden Refuses to Admit Mistakes or Accept Accountability in Disastrous Afghanistan Exit & Scott Baio Calls Out Alyssa Milano, Rob Reiner over Biden Support: ‘This Is Your Guy! Where Are You Now?’

WASHINGTON, DC - AUGUST 31: U.S. President Joe Biden delivers remarks on the end of the war in Afghanistan in the State Dining Room at the White House on August 31, 2021 in Washington, DC. The last American military aircraft took off from Hamid Karzai Airport a few minutes before …

A defiant President Joe Biden defended his tumultuous exit from Afghanistan on Tuesday, refusing to admit mistakes or accept blame for lives lost or Americans left behind.

“Some say that the evacuation from Afghanistan could have been started sooner and completed in a more orderly fashion,” Biden said. “I respectfully disagree.”

Biden began by describing the military evacuation as a success, defying critics of his rushed exit from the country after the Taliban seized control of Kabul on August 15.

Hollywood actor Scott Baio has called out his fellow celebrities who supported and campaigned for Joe Biden, noting their silence on the president’s catastrophic withdrawal from Afghanistan that resulted in thousands of Americans stranded behind enemy lines and 13 dead U.S. military personnel in twin suicide bombings last week.

In a tweet Monday, Scott Baio named Alyssa Milano, Rob Reiner, Patton Oswalt, and Richard Marx, all of whom backed Joe Biden during last year’s presidential race.

“This is your guy! Where are you now?” Baio asked. “I’m praying for our military that was killed and those left behind because of your guy.”

280 Afghan girls world-renowned orchestra performers left behind in Kabul: United States gave Taliban power to override the 82nd Airborne

 Via  LargeMarge

The girls were waiting for final approval from the Taliban when the US flight took off without them.

Gee, I'm sure glad Biden won......👿

“The White House is spinning half-truths. The Taliban gets to determine who leaves and who does not,” Taylor added bitterly. “Never mind that the Taliban still has these lists. The fact that the United States of America would abdicate our security and the decisions of who can go and who must stay to the Taliban is nothing short of despicable."

It is the stuff of horror, heartache and helplessness: Afghan girls who have devoted their entire lives to making melodies have not only been silenced amid the Taliban takeover — they have been barred from entering the US military-run airport in Kabul.

Now, the clock has run out.

“We had seven buses filled with world-renowned orchestra performers — 280 girls all approved to go,” said Robert Stryk, a Washington fixer who has been coordinating private evacuation efforts in conjunction with former Navy SEAL and US Congressman Scott Taylor (R-Va.).

“Our hearts are broken,” he added. “These young girls spent 17 hours on a hot bus with no food or water and were 393 feet from freedom but were denied entry into the airport because the United States government gave [the Taliban] the power to override the US Army’s 82nd Airborne.

“Our elected leaders failed these 280 young girls.”

President Joe Biden’s appearance at the dignified transfer of remains of the 13 soldiers slain in Afghanistan on Sunday was sharply criticized, according to accounts of the ceremony by family members.

One woman screamed at Biden across the airport tarmac, “I hope you burn in hell! That was my brother,” according to Mark Schmitz, the father of 20-year-old Lance Cpl. Jared Schmitz, who was killed in the suicide bombing attacks outside the Kabul Airport, speaking to the Washington Post.

NC Congressman predicts 'bloodshed' if elections 'continue to be rigged' 'It's going to lead to one place'

 Via Billy

The sanguine warning comes from U.S. Rep. Madison Cawthorn of North Carolina, who was addressing a crowd Sunday night.

"The things that we are wanting to fight for, it doesn't matter if our votes don't count," he said, according to a now-restricted Facebook livestream and videos tweeted by a Democratic congressional staffer.

"Because, you know, if our election systems continue to be rigged and continue to be stolen, then it's going to lead to one place – and it's bloodshed."
