Like all progressives they wanted to teach from the civil war on as the earlier history was not relevant any longer. Every educator with an 85 IQ and over KNOWS that Lincolns war against the south was illegitimate and it was nothing more than a move to consolidate power in the federal government rather than at the state level. Prior to Lincolns election, other states in the north (and I believe Connecticut was one) threatened to leave the union if certain taxes were passed. As the country was in a depression at this time, the federal government was desperate for tax revenue and I do think that Lincoln concluded that the country needed to be controlled at the federal level rather than the state. The south had a commodity that could be easily taxed and therefore taxed the hell out of it. I rather think that the northeasterners were not just jealous of southern agriculture but during the depression were even fearful that the south would usurp their economic eminence and power. The northeasterners surely never cared about the negro and it showed during the war. Fred on everything had a good R E Lee quote that said it all...."The consolidation of the states into one vast empire, sure to be aggressive abroad and despotic at home, will be the certain precursor of ruin which has overwhelmed all that preceded it." indyjonesouthereAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7566715115931065803.post-41077240326135778712017-06-19T15:10:18.361-04:002017-06-19T15:10:18.361-04:00Wonderful. :(Wonderful. :(Brock Townsendhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11404173139501539265noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7566715115931065803.post-84819065586531956522017-06-19T15:00:11.822-04:002017-06-19T15:00:11.822-04:00Oh No! If America forgets the cost, and suffering of the last, and only "modern" war fought on American soil. Then the foot solders of the left can be convinced to do it again, and more than anything the left and the "deep state" want another civil war. It is the only way to be rid of the last vestige of the old republic and usher in the "new order" and it's Imperium.--Ray Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
